Not a perfect Tomb Raider for me, but definitely much better than the last one. For me, more puzzles and tombs and it would be the perfect Tomb Raider. I hope the next one will continue this good evolution, and will be more like the old Tomb Raider.

I like the Game VERY MUCH.

Not only it looks outstanding. It was a fun experience with an okay-good story. I also really enjoy the DLCs especially endurance mode, which kept you for a bit longer than the actual game

Great game. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I believe the Tomb Raider reboot formula is great. Great production values, nice story, good cutscenes and action. Game is action packed, i was never bored once, until i completed it. Which is kinda rare nowadays for me, after more than 25 years of hardcore gaming experience.

In my opinion, it is somewhat short, and the port could have used more

In my opinion, it is somewhat short, and the port could have used more polish, that is why this gets a 9 and not a 10. But make no mistake, this is a very good game. If you can run this, try it. One of the best action games of the year, if not the best!

Brilliant gameplay, absolutely amazing graphics, decent acting, great animations, superb atmosphere, interesting story, no evidence of a console port, Lara's character is excellent, no bugs found, no crashing.
This game is easily in my top 10, probably the most polished game I've played, very well done :)
Almost gave it a ten but my only gripe is that after being spotted I can't hide

I liked the 2013 game better. This one had great graphic and a decent plot. But, oh did the parkour get tedious. So much so that I was in the temple and I got to the point where I had enough and just deleted the game before ending it. The side missions became boring as well. I'm more of a FPS guy.

Although still a gourgeous game, Rise of The Tomb Raider takes itself too seriously storywise, reminding me of Underworld days (which is not good).

Close to the ending Lara has so many gadgets and mechanics that they start to overlap one another, making controls complicated and a bit clunky. It also doesn't evolve much from its former itineration: Lara is still a war machine

It also doesn't evolve much from its former itineration: Lara is still a war machine disguised as a puppy and supporting characters are as forgettable as the cast from the last one. Gameplay feels old and a bit outdated, as if it was developed as a last-gen title.

Great for fans, whoever enjoys third person shooters and liked the last Tomb Raider, but don't expect much of an evolution in all aspects of this game.

With this iteration of the Tomb raider franchise they managed to bring something fresh and nice to the table, the game is rich graphically and the maps are just the of the right size to allow some exploration without it becoming too tedious, i liked it.

Very well done game that has a decent story, lot's of action and outstanding graphics!
Felt a lot like watching a action movie where you get to control the main character.
Game play is super smooth and glitch free, the have added a grappling wire you can throw to hook onto things for even better maneuverability. and also you can shoot arrows into some of the buildings wood and climb

I'd just like to first say how much I love the voice actress of Lara, she does an incredible job of bringing her to life and honestly she's a big reason as to why I've enjoyed the last two games so much, she really does knock it out of the park and she's not alone, the voice work across the board was solid apart from Jonah who I personally didn't like. The story itself was also interestingI'd just like to first say how much I love the voice actress of Lara, she does an incredible job of bringing her to life and honestly she's a big reason as to why I've enjoyed the last two games so much, she really does knock it out of the park and she's not alone, the voice work across the board was solid apart from Jonah who I personally didn't like. The story itself was also interesting and kept me engaged and didn't hold the voice actors back at all.

One of the games other big strengths is the climbing/platforming, I really feel it does this better than Uncharted mainly due to how many tools Lara has at her disposable, it was nice to see Uncharted 4 build upon their system by "stealing" the porous wall mechanic from Tomb Raider, it's a little thing but it adds a lot, and Rise has lots of these little mechanics that keep the gameplay fresh throughout. I would say Uncharted 4 definitely edged out Rise when it came to gunplay though, especially AI which was particularly awful in Rise, I was only playing on normal difficulty so maybe it's better on higher difficulties, but the enemies would just stand there after a friend had been headshot with their hand in the air while I primed another arrow which was really silly. Another area I felt UC4 edged out Rise was "epic moments", these set pieces are often my favourite things about both series and Rise just didn't have any, it had some cool moments but nothing truly wow, the Definitive Edition definitely had its moments and I was waiting for Rise to have its all the way until the end but it never came.

My biggest annoyance personally was performance though, this is the first game where I really struggled to maintain 1080p/60fps without drops, having to drop to the medium preset with 16x AF and high detail being the only variance from the preset. The game started off great, no performance issues at all on very high settings but it got worse and worse as the game went on, especially any zone outside just tanked the frame rate on higher settings. And the weird thing about it was most of the time nothing was happening, it was just running through the world or even just panning the camera. I'm running a 3570k @ 4.3GHz, MSI GTX 970 4G heavily overclocked, 8GB DDR3, SSD on Windows 10, this machine runs Witcher 3 at 1080p/60 without a dropped frame on a mix of high/ultra so I really feel it's an optimisation issue more so than a lack of power on my part. I really didn't like having to dumb down the graphics but performance is always my priority, I just don't usually have to sacrifice so much to achieve it (I really missed having Purehair enabled which looked great compared to Hairworks IMO).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Graphically one of the most impressive games I've ever seen. You'll need a pretty high end rig to enjoy max settings. The platforming is phenomenal as well as the stealth combat however the gunplay becomes exhausting near the end when you just fight hordes of enemies. That's when the game is at its weakest. I'm a big fan overall though and it's one of the few games I've beaten this year. Expand

Tomb Raider 2013 is one of my most favorite games ever.. Needless to say I was excited to play the sequel..
Unfortunately, they dropped the gritty tone of the original to chase uncharted….
Lara sets out to uncover a mystery her father was mocked for..
This game starts out in the Serbian mountains and the majority of the game keeps you in the snow covered mountains…
And of course there are bad guys after the same artifact you are..
    So youre not alone…
The tomb raider reboot introduced a crafting system which has been brought back, but this time feels much more in the background..
You can gather items and hunt animals for materials to craft bandages and upgrade your weapons…
But none of this is forced…
And much like the past game you upgrade your weapons at a campfire, which also acts as a fast travel point and a place for you to spend your skill points as you level up…
Rise of the tomb raider feels much more linear this time around..
The world doesn’t really feel as connected as the original…
Its for the most part a linear path that you traverse with climbing aces and ropes..
The game feels much more like assassins creed this time around because of this…
It gives uncharted 4 a run for its money with how much climbing you actually do here…
As well as the series as a whole during the few epic chase sequences qhich are easily some of my favorite moments in the entire game…
When you aren’t climbing there are a few openish sections you can explore but the mistake the original made is back as well with secrets being locked off until you progress further in the story to unlock the needed tool and come back...
This is a cheap tactic to prolong gameplay hours…
but more so its frustrating and ironically discourages exploration…
Why look around when 1 in 2 areas is going to tell me to come back later?
I might as well just ignore everything and run forward..
This is what I ended up doing..
Fortunately rise of the tomb raider is gorgeous, and traversing the parquor sections and solving environmental puzzles old fans will be happy to see returned outside of just being secrets is a great deal of fun…
And the 3rd person shooter combat feels decently nice, its not uncharted good, but its passable.. you have the option to stealth or shoot your way through most sections… you can also dodge attacks and counter….
The puzzle pieces are all here for this to be a masterpiece of a game…
except theyre missing the center piece… the one thing that makes all of this come together and work for uncharted in such a beautiful way…
    And that’s character…
Theres not a single well written character in this entire game…
    This includes lara…
The original this wasn’t so.. the game felt so real and you felt so vulnerable.. not only having to survive enemies but the environment.. I cared the entire way.. here however youre just a girl Nathan drake with 0 personality…
Which ultimately makes this feel like just a generic third person shooter experience…
There was no reason to stray away from the unique gritty adventure they had going on with tomb raider 2013, but they did and the feel of the game suffered for it
And Im not sure if this story was game of thrones inspired, but it felt pretty copy and paste making every turn so predictable, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing if again the characters had character, but they didn’t.. I wasn’t invested in the story at all…
The PS4 20 year celebration version also comes with all of the dlc…
Endurance which can be played either single or co op where youre tasked with surviving by eating food and gathering resources.. Very fun idea, but the challenges for the trophies wont unlock unless they are an active challenge, which if youre trophy hunting kills all reason to continue if there are no more trophy related challenges to do…
cold darkness which is a stealth zombie dlc where you have to infiltrate a research base for a chemical weapon
as well as Baba Yaga and Blood ties which ill be reviewing on their own as they are each about an hour long expansion with their own stories..
While I do wish the characters were better written in Rise of The Tomb Raider, I still feel is a quality experience, well worth your money if youre a fan of action adventure…
I Give Rise of The Tomb Raider..
    an 8/10

Awesome game. I did not want it to end. But sadly it did. Completed the "main" story after 22 hours played (69% total), not rushing anything. Will play for 100%. This is rare for me, as I often lose interest after main story is completed. I hope for alot of DLC maybe even expansions. I did not get the Season Pass yet.

It isn't really better than the first title and it doesn't really revolutionise anything from the last game but it's a solid entry. It's more of the same goodness that the previous title offered. If you liked the previous title, you will like this game, just don't expect much more.

This sequel sees Lara setting off on another adventure to stop an evil organization from getting their hands on a powerful artifact. This is the Lara we have been waiting to see. She is stronger and more independent building off the experiences she had in the previous game. The sequel does a good job of expanding upon Lara's abilities and skills. You have your complement of weapons from the first game that can be upgraded finding salvage. You also can craft new weapons by finding weapon parts. There are plenty of collectibles and relics to find.

The most notable and appreciated addition to the game is the number of tombs. Crystal Dynamics have made good on the criticism of the lack of tombs in the 2013 game. These tombs are entirely optional though they do offer some unique new skills for Lara to use. The Tombs themselves are fairly straightforward and only offer a mild challenge. Many of the puzzles aren't particularly difficult which is a bit of a disappointment.

I also find myself wishing the game wasn't quite so linear. This is compounded by the fact that it seems like the devs felt it was necessary to put white paint on climbable surfaces. Fortunately there are challenges and side missions that can offer some deviation. The other thing I find irritating is that sometimes the map is sluggish to reload.

In terms of graphical fidelity Rise of the Tomb Raider is one of the best looking games on the market today. Nixxes once again shows that they are capable of making a competent PC port. In fact to call it a port isn't doing the game justice. There has been considerable effort made to make the PC version feel like a proper PC release. PC users can enjoy a variety of options like sun soft shadows, HBAO+, Purehair, and high resolution textures. It needs to be said that this game is very pretty and as such it can be quite demanding.

You will need at least 4gb of Vram to use Very High textures. The game also seems to be CPU intensive so folks with older i3's may find some difficulty. You will also want to make sure you have at least 8gb of ram. I run the game on a modest GTX 750 ti with 2gb of GDDR5 vram. I also run the game on an i5 with 8gb of total ram. Due to my vram I had to turn texture resolution down to medium. Prior to the latest patch I experienced some stuttering in certain areas. After the recent patch those instances haven't been as common. I run the game at 1050p so be mindful that it will be difficult to hit 60 fps at 1080 unless you have a high end GPU. Dropping your resolution to 900 or even 720p may yield a higher more consistent frame rate. Load times will also be a bit longer if your using a mechanical drive instead of a SSD. I highly recommend this game if you enjoyed the 2013 reboot. But be mindful of your system specs and that you may need to do a bit of tweaking to get an optimal experience.

I usually prefer the stealth route, and despite it not being the focus it still feels fairly fun. Combat is engaging without being too easy or supremely difficult.

There are many platforming segements that while visualing appealing are typically on rails and you have little choice in how to go about climbing things and almost no chance of failure. If the game has one pitfall it's this. The platforming is fairly easy.

The game is strongest in it's challenge tombs, which oddly despite the game being called "Tomb Raider" are not integral to the games completion or where the plot pulls you, but solving the tombs puzzles is always satisfying and usually involves a bit of thinking.

The game is a worthy purchase if you liked the first one or enjoy adventure games with a lot of potential exploration. There's definitely a lot of fun and hours to spend in Rise of the Tomb Raider.

The thing that really stands out about Rise of the Tomb Raider is that you care about the characters at all.

Lara Croft's latest adventure represents some of the best platforming in 3D you can get. A paradoxical mix of brutal reality and crazy Indiana Jones action.

Hands down the finest version of the best Tomb Raider game. [03/2016, p.68]
