Ride 4 is tough, really tough, but not always in a good way. The penalty system is confusing, the driver’s A.I. is quite stupid and some parts of the game aren’t explained enough. However, if a challenge is what you seek, this might be the game for you.

Did Milestone want to release his Ride 4 absolutely before the end of the year in order to finish the PS4 / Xbox One cycle? No one will probably have the answer in the near future. Still, if the game is improving well on technical aspects (graphics, modeling and AI) it has lost all the mood that its previous opus had managed to generate. It is now a game of motorcycles on circuits that merges into the category.

It has a very steep learning curve and I would of enjoyed having a riding school feature, similar to that found in GT Sport just so that I could get used to the handling of the bike a bit better, such as understanding the front and back braking methods when racing, the various electronic options that you can alter on the fly, as well as other strategies that you may not be aware of as riding on motorways and town don’t necessarily utilise them.

Although you can simplify the game right down, I felt that it is a tough game to gain the confidence to then up the realism without looking online for guidance. That said, I really felt that I was racing on the seat of my pants. With all of the options that you can tweak, Ride 4 will allow even the novice rider confidently take an R1 down the tarmac, or at least to the first corner.

There are two editions of Ride 4 available, standard and special. The special edition will feature a steel-book dedicated to the iconic Yamaha R1 2020 as well as a season pass with an additional 65 new bikes, 2 tracks and 150 new events.

If you love motorbike racing, Ride 4 is for you, just be aware that like any motorbike it can be an unforgiving soab if you get it wrong on track.

I was honestly hoping for Ride 4 to be the greatest motorcycle racing game of this generation. In some ways, it is innovative, but overall, II was honestly hoping for Ride 4 to be the greatest motorcycle racing game of this generation. In some ways, it is innovative, but overall, I can only say i'm disappointed.

The "Ride" series has a huge problem throughout: the lack of investiment in the A.I.
Cheers to Milestone for having the same hideous AI for every game, I can't even express how frustrated I feel after beeing ran over by other NPC's. It really feels like a reenactment of a race, the A.I doesn't even acknowledge your player, if you stand in their way, they WILL crash into you, making singleplayer races a terrible place to be if you're trying to have fun.

I was truly hoping that they would fix the A.I, at least it was an improvement from the 3rd game, but still not good enough to be in a racing game IMO.

And it doesn't stop there, the difficulty meter is also a joke, even at the "very easy" level, there are bikes faster than yours, and the same ridiculous A.I, it feels more like a placebo than anything. Even when buying and upgrading new motorcycles, you don't really get a advantage, all the NPC's will use bikes with similar, or even the same specs as yours, technically making for a more balanced experience, but not really.

If you're new to motorcycle racing games... It's gonna be a painful journey. From all the frustration I've got from this game, I would like to give it a huge 0, but I can't really ignore the good parts of the game.

Way too many bikes are too hard to handle, it's so unforgiven. The corners are your worst enemies and especially the very first one because you need to focus on the other bikers, either they bump into you or you softly bump into them and 9 out of 10 times you fall. The new "Track Test" feature is a bad idea, you need to know the tracks in and out because you don't get any help when to hit the brakes when getting near the corners. The "Endurance" part takes way too long and with the new "Qualifying On" it takes even longer. Full Review »
