    I don't even know what Souls-like even means until now. A Remnant from the Ashes is the first RPG, Souls-like game that I played and the first Souls-like game with guns. When I first started the game I started off with a sword and as I progressed I got my first two guns when I picked a class.

    And as I progressed in the game the more that I leveled up my character and unlocked more levels to go the more difficult the game increased as usual. The game has an infinite backpack capacity to help players choose their own combat style, armor, and resources to fit. The game loot system is not very similar to games like Skyrim or Dragon's Dogma but it is still good. The shooting in the game is actually good even though it can't free aim at the other enemies and so is melee combat even if there is no target lock. And adding in-game gun mods that are added with fantasy magic is something that I have never seen before including guns that are filled with fantasy magic. Enemies were almost very fun to kill although I get killed instantly because of lacking upgrades and not enough items for healing. And Simulacrum is absolutely very rare to get when not upgrading my items and Dragonheart wisely.

    This game also encourages me to play it with friends meaning if that boss or level is difficult I need players in order to beat a level. The only criticism is that this does not have a chat option for players who don't have a speaker which makes it frustrating that it is more of a speed run rather than a campaign because I missed on secret item or spot so side mission to activate.

    I really like the campaign story in this game. It's not actually too perfect but it's actually pretty good. Although the story felt a little bit confusing, it's good but a little confusing. Sometimes I just always wonder what my character's place looked like before he sailed off or why he used the starter sword called "The Blade of Adventure" I think of my theory that is a family heirloom.

    In conclusion, I say that this Souls-like game with guns is something to look up to. And I hope that this game will have its own sequel to expand more of this story.

    Another souls-like CLUNKY junk. What is amazing is that this is a frigging 2019 game, but everything is 2009 for real.

    It's all right. Finished in under ten hours in co-op.

    Boring level design, rather bland bosses, no need to interact with any of the upgrade systems and whatnot. Pretty easy.

    Enjoyable, but nothing special.

    It was a boring, walking sim, Souls-like until it became a trash mob simulator. It's like all of the worst game design choices that could be made, all wrapped into one package with R:FtA. How this pile of $#!^ enabled a sequel to be made is beyond my comprehension. Gamers must be getting extremely desperate in order to shovel out cash for such excrement. (although, I did get this during an EGS giveaway, so I'm guilty of enabling, as well) Expand

I can see why people would find this game to be a 5 or a 6 out of 10, but I think if you're the type of person who rates a game like this 0/10, you're just review bombing because you are either not good at the game or irrationally mad that this game requires exploration and practice to become good at. I went through the game in solo, so I will evaluate it this way, since the game claims itself that it has a company that can be played like this. And about the solo: in most cases it is true, it's interesting to pass it alone. Even on YouTube there are some videos of a solo walk-trhouw at the apocalypse difficulty. But besides this, the whole game, anyway, constantly hints to you that it would be better if you play in a cooperative. And some really difficult and stuffy events, like endless enemies during the destruction of the Reanimators in Yaesha World, and in general the whole game-play and environment for example. I liked walking between the Worlds, creating stand-alone adventures... but the problem is that these adventures, along with the missed bosses and events, could be put into the main game story and not to make small zones from the Worlds from which a couple of intestines leave-corridors came in different sides. Looks like a walk-through the great closed halls, but not like a journey through the Worlds. And I generally did not like the situation with the fact that some bosses may or may not appear in their places. The second negative thing was that I periodically felt "crooked hit boxes" when the enemy got me hitting the air next to me, and when my bullets flew through the enemy(in situations of accurate hits, not "the ear hurt"). I also didn't like the abundance of save-points: the fact that there are save and/or transfer stones in important places at the entrances and near the bosses is very convenient and well done. It is possible, for example, not to save where it is not necessary. But the problem is that if you died, you can be resurrected not at a such stone, but at the moment of transition between zones, which is NOT! comfortable. The main interest of mine were bosses. They were great! Some not really interesting, some awful with their unfair difficulty in solo(), but the most(80%) were good or great. There were a lot of them and I returned to this game, by and large, for the sake of bosses, to find everyone who I could not meet in the main story. Thanks to the game for this. There was only one exception: The final boss of the main game. He wasn't hard or bad in general. He was awful as the final boss, as the character whom you must to defeat to end the story. For this, you need to buy DLC, because it makes this boss only a part of the walk-through, and the real final boss fight(in DLC) is better implemented... but he has it's own problem: Disney cliché with "the all-conquering power of love". Too childish for such a dark game.
    The main story itself and the DLC story were simple but somewhat interesting... Just OK.
    Crafting the different weapon from the different boss elements was a good idea. Healing heart, weapons and armor upgrades - too. But all this was very simplified implemented. On the second World(1/5 of the game), I didn't have to collect anything at all or pay attention to the ingredients. Only consumables like "elemental resistance". Accordingly, the loot was also not interesting too.

Funciona bien?

The gameplay is quite fun, but the ads in the boss fights, while being necessary for the ranged gameplay (and them providing ammo) they take away from the quality of the actual boss. What makes them even worse is the fact that they all have normal enemies on the side which was always an issue with Dark Souls type combat - many enemies at once is more frustrating than a fair challenge.

    The areas are generic, the story and characters are insufferable, and the progression is your usual AAA incremental stat increases.

Sound effects were great, I liked hearing monster growls showing they were near.

    Control scheme I hated. The first problem was many controls could "lock", meaning pressing them no longer does anything, many times I would press the fire button and nothing happened, and I would even be rapidly pressing it for a second and still nada. No not stunned or out of ammo. Lets say that problem didn't exist, well the controls still sucked. All the weapons I used you need to click once to fire once, so you rapid press fire. And you have to press and hold aim to fire, otherwise its a melee attack. Did I have a use for melee attacks past the early part of the game? No, many bosses and such can't even be hit with it. Point is you should just be able to fire without holding aim and you should be able to hold to fire not rapid click, which caused a weird uneven rate of fire. And there are many weapons I didn't feel like I had much choice, long range accurate ones were best always.

    I felt builds and stats were badly set up, upgrades system wasn't good, special abilities (attached to your guns) were unimpressive, the gameplay loop was mostly about shooting accurately and healing, they should have made special abilities have a broader scope and have their own keys.

    It was a fun enough game to play through and finish. People have said the bosses just spawn adds and you just have to slog through and hope you kill things fast enough to widdle down the boss. While this is true some bosses were interesting enough, they feel very hard until you beat them. The boss that would summon goblin-ish riders was cute, though I found a cheese for it. You could strategize and learn boss patterns, but things are pretty random sometimes.

    The story was super unclear to me and really needed more work. I guess I have to keep in mind it's just a video game premise that sets up excuses to visit different worlds, fight many things, and have some final boss to end it all (and go to DLC land). Sometimes there was an interesting character or something that had it's own voice acting and personality and such, but you would see them for a minute and then never again, I feel the priorities weren't in order. It also felt like you went from world to world killing whatever was there with little explanation, and you'd be like who were those people I killed what was their backstory, oh never mind here's a bunch of totally different stuff.

    So, 4/10 I feel like that's a weird rating for something I felt was generally fun but I believe I have explained the reasons in this review. Ciao gamers.

Графика глаза не режет, хоть и уэ4. Проект малобюджетный, что видно с первого часа игры, но при этом он умудряется:
    1. Иметь несколько десятков вариантов основных и вспомогательных стволов, комбинации которых могут поменять стиль игры от аккуратно-снайпового, так и до рашевого-дробовикового;
    2. Иметь несколько десятков модификаторов и сетов брони, что позволяет комбинировать/дополнять стили игры или менять их в корне;
    3. Иметь вариации по убийству многих боссов с различными исходами/наградами;
    4. Иметь процедурную генерацию, что делает её по сути rogue-like;
    5. Иметь очень бодрый кооп и неплохой сетевой код, в отличие от её именитого примера;
    6. Напрягать многими игровыми ситуациями и некоторыми боссами не хуже дс, при этом есть боссы которых проще убить в пати, а есть те, которых убийство в пати превращает в боль;
    7. Иметь хардкор-режим, что позволяет любителям острых ощущений пушить её до посинения;
    8. Обладать кучей разных мелких механик, которой не обладал тот же дс (как вам, например, возможность в любой момент отменить эстус перекатом? Шо, Миядзаки, пока ты в 21 веке, малобюджетка в 31?).

    Но при этом не стоит забывать, что низкий бюджет не дал ей того разнообразия локаций, врагов, лута и лора, который бы мог поднять эту игру на качественно более высокий уровень, но даже при этом то, что в ней есть, позволяет подобрать комплект и стиль под нужды каждого любителя шутанов (правда насчет стелса не уверен, хотя даже есть перк на бэкстабы).

    В любом случае - несколько десятков (сотен) часов увлекательного геймплея обеспечены

    Here's the actual review: The game is fine, the story is nothing special, you just have to have interest to read every piece of lore disseminated in book across all the map.
    There are some mechanics that are clunky and kinda RNG based:
    -You can't cancel the melee animation
    -Some debuff are actually so strong that make the game even harder
    -in Apocalypse difficulty to complete the game you need to pray that the RNG god to bless you, me and a friend of mine formulated some kind of code to understand how the RNG worked to make the game easier for us, because you die with one hit even from the first enemy of the game. This difficulty isn't "hard" it's just rng based.
    -some mechanics are difficult to understand and some "traits" (I think it's the right word for the skills) are not really clear what they do and actual improvents aren't that strong in harder difficulties (we can shave off half of them that become useless, actually 3 of them are in some way useful).

    Disclaimer: I've tried playing Remnant solo and was left dissatisfied, dropping it. Then after some time, I was lucky to get a friend play it through with me, and saw a drastic difference. I consider the later to be the intended way to play and base my review on that experience, yet I do account for the solo one in the final score as well.

    Remnant is a game that follows Dark Souls formula somewhat loosely, but the general design outline is kept close to the obvious influence: gameplay is on the forefront, while lore, story and atmosphere try to be obscure and cryptic. I consider this type of games to rely heavily on the former, and Remnant realises that too. It comes through with confident and polished gunplay, tactically challenging encounters that mainly require you to focus on your positioning and timings, and to keep that up - engaging, if derivative, progression loop. All of that comes together even stronger when you count in all the different build synergies in co-op. My only gripe is that some encounters, especially bosses, might be a little to random - frustratingly so at hard difficulty.

    Levels are somewhat procedural, which makes them really linear, superficial and, ironically, not interesting to replay. Environments, on the other hand, are quite stylish, while not being that rich or detailed. Visuals are serviceable as well, some designs are quite striking, others - not so much. The same goes for music, that really begs to be more adaptive in boss fights, and sounds.

    The story and worldbuilding are kept relatively timid and mainly shown off in one non-hostile location near the very start of the game - in a form of blocks of text on some abandoned computers, of course. They also lack any sort of thematic direction, but seem relatively fresh to me.

    Remnant: From the Ashes is a horrible title, but a thought-out and well-built, lean gaming experience for you and a buddy or two, that'll keep you well invested while you're not trying to scrutinize it too much. Nowhere does it say that the game is also really boring on your own, so that knocks off a point to a 6 out of 10 in total.

    The graphics and performance leave quite a lot to be desired, especially the performance, but this is somewhat understandable given the budget and relatively inexperienced dev team. On the positive side, the fact that this team with its budget managed to create such a coherent 3RD person co-op shooter is quite impressive.

    Procedural generation is more or less a none factor for me, neither here nor there. I just don't care about it. Most of the time i prefer hand crafted maps and enemy spawns because it usually leads to a more balanced and coherent experience. This game, with its partial procedural generation, somehow manages to avoid (for the most part anyway) these annoyances. Not entirely though. Balancing and difficulty spikes are definitely prevalent in the game and you WILL experience them in your play through.

    These problems are alleviated and much more lenient when playing with a friend. In fact, like i said above, the whole game just gets exponentially better when played with a buddy and i wholly recommend that you play the game like this, otherwise, you will likely find yourself saying "meh" a whole lot.

    Conclusion: Grab a friend, a few beers, crank up the difficulty, and let the good times flow.

    Postapocalyptic shooter. We posess tech to open portals to other worlds. Scavenge, carve a foothold, rebuild.

    Nice premise, right?

    As Robert Rath once wrote, "You have to earn your apocalypse".

    Quote:

    "The key to a good apocalypse lies in what happens before things fall apart. There's narrative groundwork to be done. Building up before you break down. Developers need to give the audience a sense of the world and its characters. A good End Times game lets us know what's at stake. It shows us why this world deserves to be broken, and why it deserves to be fixed.

    Apocalypse stories exist in a paradox - they show us a world that deserves to be destroyed, but deserves equally to be saved. They're wish fulfillment. "

    Now Remnant. You are some guy/girl/notimportant, they are bland cutouts anyway, who gets on a boat and sails somewhere to prevent something from something, because something bad is going to happen.

    OK. Apocalypse happened. There is no explanation WHAT exactly happened. Who are you; why you survived and others didn't; where this is happening... nothing is ever completely explained.
    Let me spoil it for you. Apocalypse happened because some guy talked to some entity which we never see and used his position to allow this entity and its friends to come to Earth. Billions of people on the planet never had any say in this. One guys screwed up, boom, everybody dead.

    What do we fight for? There is no humanity left to speak of, none that we can see, apart from less than 20 guys and girls in a bunker somewhere. We're screwed anyway? Never explained.
    Who are those people? There is at least some backstory about two to three main NPCs... which tells most of what we will know about the world, and yet manages to leave those characters completely forgettable. They don't actually do anything anyway, not even provide some exposition for world's sake...

    Did the world deserve to be broken and remade, like in, say, Fallout? Nope, it was not even Russkies invading or China launching nukes because the world was rife with unsolvable differences. Americans screwed up, OK, thanks, that's new, but it's not even Americans, it was, like I said, one guy. The world was doing FINE. OK, Cold War was going on somewhere in the backdrop (it's briefly mentioned in a DLC), and that's it.

    Does it deserve to be fixed? Don't know, it's a soulless procedurally generated world of gray, gray and more brown, everything is broken and there is no one left.
    The monster areas can be compared to, say, Hellgate London (hell monsters invade, but humanity has a plan), but you can see some semblance of life in quest hubs. Here there is none, everybody is some form of broken, and most people in the single hub where everybody does not shoot you on sight don't even speak.
    Heck, you can choose you character's voice, but he's on mute most of the time. Except when he (or she, really no difference) is afraid, so no roleplaying a grim and gruff survivor.

    Other worlds are somewhat explained in scattered notes, and whatever, everyone there is out to kill you anyway. When you come across someone who does not, they seem out of place. Like, what the heck, person, I just committed mass murder just to get to you (they attacked first!) and you speak as if you never had any murderous intentions. Are you even from around here?

    There are no stakes in the game. Nothing you do affects the outcome, which is... credits. You never actually make any noticeable impact on any world - NPCs don't react differently, scenery does not change, nothing. Apparently, developers forgot to buy cutscenes andor cinematics.
    Kill a guardian and ensure the world's doom? No changes anywhere. Support a brainwashing cult? Nothing. Kill a towering behemoth that was godzilling down cities? Ok, THAT gets you at leas some form of reaction. That's it, this is the single time in the whole game (+2 DLCs) when you feel you are making an impact.

    The game is ridiculously darksoul-ish. Forget being Sir Lancelot of Albion, step into the comfortable shoes of Sir Die-a-lot out of nowhere.

    The game is engaging enough to keep your monotonous grind through lifeless levels with no character in search of at least a sliver of a story.

    DO NOT REPEAT MY MISTAKE. There is none. What little is there can be read in a wiki.
    Spend your time on other games, games with stories and emotion and stakes and characters and fun.
    You won't find it here.

But then they a separate team for boss design and they hated life and wanted everyone else to also so they put in the worst insta-kill hard hitting attacks with no real warning they could think of, then kept putting the horribly designed bosses as often as possible. Enjoying the game? too bad! get your teeth kicked in for 2+ hours because we can't do our job well, hur dur.
    I pray every night that every single person involved with the design, implementation, and approval of any boss in this game gets testicular or ovarian cancer that makes them swell up extremely painfully over months before finally rupturing and then causing the other to do the same but take three times as long to go so. It's really THAT bad of a game.
    Anyone who rates this above a 4 needs to be checked into a mental hospital, and yes it's really that bad. Rated a 7+? then removed from the gene pool immediately as single digit IQ is not ok.

There were two big problems for me. Gear and weapons are extremely limited. I ended up playing through with the default weapons and armor because what (rarely) came along was pretty boring IMO. The bigger problem is the procedural generation. It does nothing but severely limit good level design. There wasn't a single time here where I was wowed by what I was exploring. Quite the opposite, I frequently found myself realizing I've already seen these exact dungeon sections. But what about replayability? Lack of procedurally generated levels certainly hasn't diminished Dark Souls' replayability.

If the game had better level design with good reasons to explore the levels like random rare encounters or loot, more weapons and armors with randomized stats and attributes and more enemy variety this could have been a 10 out of 10 game, one of those games you can just play with your buddies for hours on end for years, but it falls short.

I was skeptical at first, but went in with a open mind. This game is one of the worst experiences i have gone through in the decade when it comes to video games. To begin with, the game is extremely easy, the game was compared to Dark Souls but i often died 3 times maximum on bosses and mobs never posed a threat in hard difficulty. This is just one factor, a game should not be judged only by its difficult by any means, but my god, does the boss design in this game sucks, the "harder ones" create that false sensation because they are either bullet sponges or spawns millions of minions. Other than difficulty, story sucks; and when it comes to atmosphere i like the lovecraftian style but it is often so overwhelming with a lot of aspects, from medieval fantasy to science fiction, this by itself became kindda cringy halfway through the game because it seemed like the writers tried to shove as much elements as possible in a single game. The game is buggy as hell, havent had a game breaking one that kept me from playing; but often i died when changing plataforms, teleporting, and doing other common stuff. The game doesnt stimulates the player to explore, because often when you do explore, you find bad loot and bad enemies overall. I have to say the concept of a "soulslike shooter" seemed aewsome at first, the execution of the game is terrible though, i played from beginning to end expecting something halfway or in the end, but the gameplay is repetitive, i would call it a sin to call this game an dark souls something because it fails in good exploration, progression, world building, boss design and fun factor overall, this coming from a guy that is not a big fan o Dark Souls but acknowledges the game's influency and development. So i was thinking of this game as 6/10 and not felt like explaining why in a review, and this is a rant about why i give it 5/10 now. I've been playing offline so far though i can see some of the game decisions are tailored toward online and negatively affect offline and haven't lowered the score because of that unless it really could be done better. Few words about the game pre-rant: It's decent, completely unoriginal, it knows what it is, the story and character/npc progressions is almost non-existent beyond first hour but whatever budget was allocated for it was well spent and if you want to go and read some lore in an early, a little bit too easily missable (probably under you're forced to go there again somewhere at the end of the game ?) location that despite it being in written form it's really well delivered (and not all in one text). The game then embarks on a FPP dungeon grinder switching between open world and dungeons but really open world is an almost linear dungeon too. The game has apparently semi random-generated maps and what it means is that on each world you'll see the first 1/4 of the map and then see it rehashed another 3 times in a slightly randomized order of the segments as you experience the endless deja vu. Also every mandatory dungeon has a paired optional dungeon which despite having the map blocks slightly randomized feels like the exact same dungeon. Fortunalety as you realize there are more worlds the game stops feeling less like a lackluster alpha version and while the feeling of each world being a very pretty reskin of the last one there's enough added twists to the enemies and variety to the world map that if i were to name them all it would come apparent that there is enough change to make the game interesting and enjoyable, encouraging you to try different weapons that you unlock with every dungeon. Initially the weapon and armor choice is nonexistent and it feels really constraining, by the time you enter second world you have an small choice of weapons that you try to use and realize they are all "sidegrades" and quite pointless to use considering the steep price of upgrading them to +x so they are as good as your starter weapon, the added variety as the games progresses makes them a sidegrade system made quite well except... it kinda kills most of the feeling of achieving something and unlocking something cool. Overall a decent game to kill some time every other day and not much more, perhaps with some potential for co-op play. (and by that point i've accidentaly wrote almost a full, albeit a bit abridged, review).
    Rant Ahead:
    So i got to the butcher boss, at that point gameplay became less linear and more interesting with more ways to do something than one, tried shooting the guy from afar as he was red on reticle which started the "boss gate mist to enter arena" -> ok alt+f4 -> restarted, it's all reset i'm starting from the last saved checkpoint, great. So i snuck in, "maybe there can be a conversation option like with houndmaster?" nope.. so i found the bottom level of arena, nothing there to interact with just some pots to break for scraps, went back up "oh so it's like houndmaster where i can skip the boss by sneaking past, not the first or second boss you can just skip for whatever reason" so i tried sneaking past just to confirm my theory and then go and try to confront the boss. Well you can't skip it you have to fight. The bottom floor got locked out "Well maybe we drop there with boss half fight or maybe there's going to be something there afterwards but it feels like i've missed something". Killed the boss, went back down, started destroying urns for gems... sorry, for scrap, and then found out you can actually enter a few of them and hide in them. Problem is a) you can accidentaly (by attacking or just rolling) destroy them, there is no shiny aura like on most interactable things and there is a veeery faint "you can interact with it circle" that doesn't pop the interaction prompt unless you're standing from a certain side, certain distance and looking at a certain angle... "ok, so i havent save at a check point, and the game doesn't save without checkpoint or normal quit just like when i lost 2h of grinding pots and urns for scrap because of game's frequent crashes, right?" -> alt+f4 -> well, the game saved the progress.
    Great so what did i lose? Go figure you have to kill the boss one way or another you can just get a potentially better weapon. I've been looking to replace my starter hammer for 17h of gameplay, found skull flail at world two and found it a downgrade with a slight potential for online. Go figure the better weapon you get for hidding in the urn before the boss is a skull flail reskin with twice better stats.
    And now i have to replay the 17h of the game again with starter weapon (you can reset world without losing stuff but if you never got anything better.. ) or i can try handgesturing online randoms to be stealthy

    I recommend this game> But you have to actually want to like it a lot.

    1st point: For a game with interdimentional travel, it manages to be quite unimaginative. Apocalyptic earth. A swamp. A forest. A wasteland. This is all you need to know about the environments of the game. Warframe, for example, doesn't even leave the solar system and manages to do better in my opinion. 2nd point:

    1st point: For a game with interdimentional travel, it manages to be quite unimaginative. Apocalyptic earth. A swamp. A forest. A wasteland. This is all you need to know about the environments of the game. Warframe, for example, doesn't even leave the solar system and manages to do better in my opinion.

    2nd point: enemies are copy/pasted over and over and over again, even bosses. Example: Every single boss except the butterflies, are easier than the adds they spawn, and every boss spawns waaay too many adds( riphide is even worse, being it's own add), which makes the fights more annoying than challenging, and depending on the build you're using, bosses could be borderline impossible to solo, independent of difficulty level, because you just don't have enough stamina to dodge 20 adds. TLDR: the game doesn't give you the tools to deal with the nonsense it throws at you. This looks to me like a lazy way to try to make the bosses seem more interesting than they are. Doubt me? Play the game and count the bosses that DON'T have an AOE attack the has infinite range, goes through cover, and doesn't require line of sight. Almost every boss in the game has one.

    3rd: The game tries to remain challenging in multiplayer through it's use of adds, and fails. Try it yourself. Those bosses that seemed impossible solo turn into jokes in multiplayer. Adds do them no favor.

    4th: I finished the game, played a lot of adventure mode, and still don't quite understand what's the deal with multiplayer. Really, how does it work, when do people spawn, I'm not sure I have a clue.

    5th: PC port sucks. Specially the menus and keybinds. It's quite noticeable the game was thought with consoles in mind and hastily adapted to pc as an afterthought. Seriously, no toggle aim down sights?! If you ban me for using autohotkey I'm flipping!!!

    6th: where are the grenades?

    7th: Why can't I mute my stupid man-child player character without muting everyone else, He doesn't even have proper dialogues, only barks/cues(-It's over now. -.- again)

    8th: Not a reeeeal problem, but i'd like more character customization, beyond the face. Like fat, muscle mass, height, etc. That would be nice

    9th: It kept feeling to me like there would be progression for the npcs, there isn't, it's a shame.

    That being said, guns feel good, movement feels good, animations look great, environments look good(uninspired but great), voice acting is good, and the game is overall fun. Bosses suck though.

    This game since its been out for free on EPIC i can't stop playing it, one of the major problems is the story being somewhat terrible, and gets easily lost a long the way of the playtrough so do not expect it to be lore driven as dark souls or any other decently story driven game. This game since its been out for free on EPIC i can't stop playing it, one of the major problems is the story being somewhat terrible, and gets easily lost a long the way of the playtrough so do not expect it to be lore driven as dark souls or any other decently story driven game. To be blunt the story is the thing that makes this game look terrible.

    Now the second major problem with this game is the beginning and the lack of explanation on how the "difficulty" scales , these 2 things can and will make you think twice after beating the 1st boss. E.g mobs up until the 1st boss are mostly killed with one shot (not included elite mobs and mini bosses), but the main boss can take you on a ride specially if you've never played a game with a dodge mechanic like rolling, armor weight, movement speed, stamina etc etc.

    After that 1st boss a world opens up, there's a lot of things to collect, quests to complete, bosses to kill, things to unlock, but the good thing is you don't need to play harder difficulties to unlock specific things besides some hardcore items, and be aware i said hardcore not hard difficulty.

    The ability to replay the same areas but with a different layout and different bosses is fun in its core and the gameplay well makes up for those 2 bad things about this game. I still see people playing this game for 1 hour just to complain about graphics, the ambient being dull, full of "deadwood" and the boss being too difficult. People apparently must play only perfect games with super mario difficulty settings xD.

    Play the game after the 1st area seriously. It gets better. Now the scaling works like this, its directly tied to your weapons and armor level + progression on the 1st playthrough, but mostly the equipment level, the game basically stops you from breaking it with overpowered luck. Imagine binding of Isaac capabilities of getting an overpowered combination of items, that can happen in this game, but since the enemies scale with your highest equipment level ( yes even if its not equipped) it balances out.

    You have to learn a bit of the basics in dodging and invulnerability frames and understand that your survival its largely based on your skills and taking advantage of those mechanics, there's also consumables to buff/heal/cleanse statuses effects on you.

    So the learning curve is steep but if you have experienced any souls like game before this will be a breeze, if not please just read the descriptions of the items, you have a window with your stats (damages, fire rate, reload speeds, movement speed, resistances ) but the most important thing and i wished i knew this at the beginning, there's a little meter on the bottom of that stats window that shows you if you currently have the equipment at the correct level for the map you're on, it shows you if you're lacking in defense or in damage.

    The difficulty you pick (there's normal, hard, nightmare and apocalypse) only changes 2 things, the amount of health and damage the enemy mobs have, and the experience you gain. If you want to have a bit more of a challenge try those, believe me they're fun if you already know what to do.

    Hardcore is just like minecraft or any hardcore mechanic game, you play the game as normal but if you die you lose everything. Except account connected gear, which means if you get for example a mod for a weapon or a ring in hardcore and if its account bound you can use it right away with another character.

    Ofc there's bugs, sometimes the environment just straight up **** you xD But that's mostly due to the randomness of the maps sometimes it doesn't work properly but its negligible.

    Now equipment can be crafted or bought from vendors, but they are mostly tied to the maps and randomized locations... that can be a bit annoying... for a simple reason, if you already know what you want to get like watching build guides, specific quests etc ( which i don't advise at least on the 1st playthrough) you will find yourself frustrated for not getting that specific item in that specific map in that specific area because it didn't spawn to you.

    I went blind into this game and only after a few playthroughs i looked at some guides (mostly to where or how to kill a boss a different way to get a different item) and it was fun all the way through. The maps atmosphere are perfect, the sounds only enhance the experience, i love the sounds when an elite mob appears near you and there's an eerie sound that will send shivers down your spine ( at least the 1st time you play it xD).

    So after all this is mostly up to you, take advantage since its free on EPIC at least for pc (08/2020), you should definitely try it out. But please for the love of god play the damn game if you're thinking of reviewing it.

    TL,DR: The game is fun if you don't mind the initial hurdles and the "mindless minions playing for 1 hour so i know the whole game" type of people reviewing this game.

    If you want a shooter easier souls like game with rpg elements and interesting combinations this is the game for you. People complaining it is too hard, really, git gud, too much mobs on boss fights? This is because you don't understand the rpg elements part, a lot of equips adds bonus after kills, your skills also charge with kills, obviously, after you kill the boss these skills would be kind of useless don't you think? But they would really help during the boss fights? What do you think? So this is the reason for the mobs.
    Well, it certainly is not easy to solo on nightmare mode, yes this is for co-op, it is ridiculously hard to solo bosses on nightmare but when I say it is easier than souls is because on normal mode with the right leveled equips and mods it is really a walk on a Sunday afternoon, really. But I think it is fun to help under-geared people :/
    Now, why I gave only 8 if I like the game?
    Online bugs, sometimes you die while entering a teleport, you can't choose sessions correctly like sometimes you can enter low gear people, that is fun to help, and sometimes you can't, you can't see ping so it is a lottery if you can play the game with others nicely or if you will go powerpoint mode, but when it works and sometimes it takes a while to find a good session, it is a fun experience.

While dodging the bosses attacks, a random wave of exploding ballsacks will swarm you, if you get hit by an explosion, you get tossed back and semi stunned. That gives the boss a free swing on you which can continue your stun. Then another ballsack explodes on you, then your dead.
    You would think, "let me use a health refill...". Nope, takes about 5 mins to use, in that time another swarm of ballsacks will be on your chin or a swing from the boss will have you stunned again. The gameplay makes you feel hopeless by cheap swarms of ballsacks on top of the boss already being a challenge. I feel like I have no option but to do it over and over until I get lucky aka RNG is in my favor leaving skill out of the equation. The boss itself is easy enough to learn and kill, but RNG shouldn't be here. Keep the ballsacks out of the fight. It's very much a copy and paste Souls like but in a cheap way. A very bad bad frustrating lazy design of a Dark Souls like game.

    Immersion: Does the game look good? Is the story engaging? Does the world pull you in? Yes, to early to tell, Yes 8/10 General quality: Is it unique or are they at least trying

    Honestly love this game, I hope this becomes a franchise I truly truly do.

    Update after sinking countless hours this is probably my top game in the last couple years just for replay value. The DLC's have done worlds to improve the game and generally just make it a better more full experience.

    how can you make a games who tried to be realistic like you have to drink potion for 3 seconds while the boss can hit you from the other side of the wall. if you want your game to be realistic do it well.

    Like many people have said, this game is difficult. That doesn't mean its good. I'm tired of game companies making there games more difficult because it somehow improves them. This game would have been 10 times better, if it had an easier mode. That way I could run through its minimal plot in a good amount of time instead of wasting hours on what is literally a game that is hard for theLike many people have said, this game is difficult. Feels like games i played about 15 years ago. The graphics would have been quite good at that time, but that seems the only good thing you can say about it. The controls are incredibly simple and the mix of both made me uninstall the game after about playing the prologue a little bit.

    The levels are badly designed and uninspired, they don’t spark curiosity or desire to explore them – but you still have to, because new weapons and armor aren’t dropped by the enemies, they must be found in obscure spots scattered across the maps. [Issue#241, p.44]

    The combat is solid glue holding together a solid product, offering some fun cooperative shooting and a good amount of interesting items and weapons to build. Gunfire Games has already supported the game with two new modes and hopefully post-launch support will continue. While those who need a constant influx of new loot to parse through may find this game a bit on the slow side, those who are more familiar with games like Dark Souls may feel more at home here. The experience isn’t a perfect one, but there’s plenty to love in Remnant and excitement to be had in its future.

    By taking the best bits of a few different genres, Gunfire Games has come up with an exceptional formula here, and brought us the surprise hit of the year. Sure, it’ll take you a while to “git gud”, but it actually feels like it’s worth the practice.
