I had a blast playing Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs despite some of its shortcomings. With amusing characters, a relatable story, solid combat, fantastic music and voice acting, and meaningful choices, it's definitely worth checking out. I look forward to seeing Pixelated Milk's next project!

In the end, Regalia is a massive game and even those who think that it isn't would agree that it can be expanded to a bigger premise. There is a lot to do and so many possibilities. It has a great narrative and its own way of telling a story of a hero who is unwillingly dragged into the mess his ancestors created.

Regalia is a game of surprises, giving me much more than I expected from a small, first time publisher. There’s certainly a bit of room for improvement, but most of that melts away to a game that’s funny, challenging, and full of backstory and lore. A very diverse cast of characters and dialogue that’s delivered with the timing and heart it deserves elevate this stereotypical-on-paper experience from another dime-a-dozen indie fantasy game to something well worth exploring.

Regalia is just a great game that is worth a shot if you enjoy comedy, great characters and a lighthearted story. Also, if you’re a fan of classic JRPG isometric gameplay, look no further Regalia: of Men and Monarchs.

An amazing debut from Pixelated Milk, featuring a refreshing, deep, and satisfying combat system. Honest old school design, without any tiresome grinding. We anxiously await their next game.

Regalia is a good example of how an indie project can be successfully brought to the release. No big promises, no bullshit, the game is good as it was pitched on Kickstarter: a good mix between the classic JRPG style and a good European touch, all in a hilarious atmosphere. Maybe not groundbreaking, but fun and enjoyable.

An engaging and charming tactical RPG with above average visuals and audio and a rich cast of interesting characters. [07/2017, p.64]

Our experience with Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs was similar to the first reading of an obscure fairy tale. At first we were not sure where the writer was trying to go, but several hours later we found a beautiful and charming world to explore.

Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs wins time and again with unexpected surprises, character development, and fresh plot. With a sharp, sarcastic tone like Shrek, and a generally disinterested atmosphere like One Punch Man, Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs is a trove of snark, swears, and mild innuendo. An ending that surely comes too soon leaves you hoping for a potential sequel to meet, once more, Kay and his merry band of flawed friends.

A safe bet for anyone looking to scratch an old tactical JRPG itch. It may not reinvent any part of the wheel, but it reconstructs it in a way that is quite admirable.

Regalia: Of Men And Monarchs does quite well what it sets out to do, tributing classic JRPGs by mixing a variety of features and mechanics. While not overly original, the game developed by Pixelated Milk manages to be quite entertaining thanks to the charming characters, lighthearted tone, and challenging battles. If you loved JRPGs back in the 90s, early 2000s, you will find plenty to like in Regalia: Of Men And Monarchs.

The characters Regalia are colourful, and each has their own unique personality, so spending time with them doesn’t turn into a mindless chore just to get some better stats.

Regalia Of Men and Monarchs is a good Final Fantasy Tactics-like with some flaws.

Regalia: of Men and Monarchs will give the player the fantasy tactics and base-building experience that its backers demanded, paired with writing that but for a few typos is satisfactory at the very least.

Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs is a good variation of classic Asian tactical RPGs, which is very rare on PC. Pixelated Milk have created a high quality game with tons of good vibes and humor. There are some issues here and there and the entire game could use some polish, but the overall impression is really good.

Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs is a light-hearted tactical role-playing game that is easy to learn yet challenging to complete. Even though the combat system and story could have used a bit more depths, the beautiful hand-painted graphics, well-written characters and enjoyable battles makes it is an impressive debut for the studio.

Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs stands well on its own two feet. From a technical standpoint, the tactical combat sections could do with a little more originality, and perhaps a better balance between gameplay modes. Overall, though, the game succeeds at what it aims to achieve, and gamers after a chilled-out tactical RPG with bags of character are bound to enjoy it.

Fresh piece of a tactical RPG blends well urban and time management, comprehensive turn-based duels, gorgeous visuals, and plenty of colorful and humorous characters. The game, however, deals with saving issues, over-lengthy duels, dubious AI, unfriendly interface and the continuous click-fest over the loading screens.

Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs is a very solid game that, without having much innovation, achieves in getting its different systems to work and makes it a very good tactical RPG.

Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs is a good tactical RPG if you've got the time, but not if you're looking for a meaty storyline.

The strongest part of Regalia was its multitude of lovable characters, and any interaction with them was where the game really shone; there just weren’t enough of those opportunities to carry the more cumbersome elements. Those new to JRPGs likely won’t have the same jaded lens to view this game through, but I maintain that for Regalia to have really made an impact, it would have had to aspire to more than being a tribute to those who have gone before.

If you're lifting ideas from other games, you should at least try to hit their level of quality, otherwise it's a waste of time and resources. Regalia is a frustratingly simple exercise in micromanagement with colorful characters and passable writing which only seems like a serious strategy game.

Regalia represents one of my favourite genres - the tactical RPGs. Maybe that is why I had very high hopes for this title. Unfortunately, the game didn't quite come through.

    Pros:
+ it is very pretty and voice acting is quite decent
+ the castle-building and relationship-developing parts are fun
+ there's some charm to the characters and their dialogues, there's some comedy, some witty remarks, it reminds me a little of Disgaea, which is great, but...

    Cons:
    - ...the story is so tedious I felt no drive whatsoever to find out what happens next. The premise is uninteresting and so is the development of the story. Frankly, the story seemed like just an excuse for grinding out gold, EXP and items. Unfortunately, that's the style of a low-level jRPGs.
    - combat pacing is dreadful. Everything is so slow. And I don't mean the movement of the characters (which you can change with one click), but the pacing overall. Each battle takes around 10-15 minutes to complete, and believe me - it's 5-10 minutes too long. Our heroes and their adversaries exchange never-ending blows, which makes combat a drag. This is important as fighting will take around 50% of game time.
    - the tactical side isn't particularly interesting either. Our heroes powers don't really give us a lot to go on, and very often it's just about which party can outlast the other (literally, healing - or rather armoring up - seems almost too important). There is very little room for improvisation.

All in all Regalia is an ok game, but not much more. If you're a die hard fan of tactical RPGs, and you're looking for a pearl in the likes of Final Fantasy Tactics or Jeanne D'Arc from PSP, you might be disappointed. If you're just looking for any tactical game with a lighter side to it, you might just hit the paydirt.

Unfortunately I cannot, in good conscious, recommend this game. The main protagonist has no agency, everything that happens in the gameUnfortunately I cannot, in good conscious, recommend this game. The main protagonist has no agency, everything that happens in the game happens to him and not because of him, 95% of decisions are made up by side characters or villains or whoever is there. The lsit of characters is somewhat diverse but offers no real personality when they are so far on the extreme of what they are supposed to be that they become gimmicks.
The combat is fine, I was looking for a simple yet fun Tactical RPG and this is somewhat of what I was looking for, the beginning will be hard and seems unfair but after awhile tou get the jist and is ok, problem is that even with not a lot of characters at the grid, fights take loooong to finish, still good variety of objetives.
All of this could be forgot if the story and how it is handled were good, and they are not... The story is simple and have the necessary requirements to make you invested the problem is how the objectives of the game tie the story.
The first chapter will give you a list of objectives in different areas like, clearing dungeons, raising level of the party, fishing, crafting, etc, and there is big list with a whole bunch of them and no real order. This is supposed to be like you making money to pay loans, after 5 objectives under the time limit, and you are fine.... problem is, ALL THE CHAPTERS HAVE THE SAME SYSTEM OF 5 OBJETIVES(later7) UNDER A TIME LIMIT, IT FEELS LIKE YOU ARE STUCK IN CHAPTER 1 FOREVER DOING THE SAME THINGS 6 TIMES ON THE SAME AMOUNT OF INTERVAL BETWEEN THEM.
That is what makes not recommend, if you can ignore this, try it.
