I like RAGE 2 for what it is. I can casually hop in and wreak havoc with the amazing combat systems RAGE 2 provides and that's it.

Gunplay is absolutely amazing. The game is action packed and full of fun things to do. It can run dry along the way but there's always something to do to relieve any boredom.

This game sucked for me when i first tried it but now i think it's a really good game even if it can't compare with masterpieces from this generation. It's a hundred times better than CP2077 in the gameplay, optimization, immersion and fun aspects hands down, even though the story is not that good. Gunplay is incredible by the way. It's the most fun i had since Doom. Expand

Very fun, very challenging and awesome graphs. Cons (not in my case): is very similar to Mad Max but with a fist person view, more guns and less hand-2-hand combat.

In many reviews and ratings, this game is called the “Result of pairing of Doom and Mad Max”, sometimes they add here and “Far Cry”. And it's work just normal. From "Mad Max" - driving, mad enemies, big empty locations, ruins. And it's work normal but boring after first hours of game-play.
Generally this game is not so bad, but there is some very annoying things:
    1) Each new local activity begins with a couple of phrases like "Hey sister, I see something strange here" and these phrases are only ONE for each type of event. For the fifth time, it starts to enrage, and there are lot of different events here.
    2) A very simple story that can be completed in a few hours of playing. From the very start, the game tells you to find 3 people who have only 2 missions each, after which you go to complete the final one. That’s the end of the story... I will not say that the plot is bad, but with given length of it, it turns into a short mockery on the players.
    3) Fu*ng bugs and Fu*ng optimisation. Every fifth-sixth entry the Map menu - crash of the game. Having far from the weakest computer, even at medium settings the game often gave friezes. Sometimes it passed, more often - no.

So much opportunity, so little development.
You get one vehicle you can upgrade and a whole slew of other vehicles you can unlock simply by driving them back to a town. You can't upgrade them, they're cookie cutter cars, but the upgrade parts are constant unlocks. There is really no endgame mode for this open world game,, it's fun until mid game than then it's just a boring mess.

Clearly Id and are better at linear games like doom 2016 and doom eternal but this game is awful. I'm giving it 2/10 because China paid for it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Rage 2 is often compared to Doom. Totally wrong, because it is a completely different game. Although the focus is also on action-packed fights, these are much more versatile in Rage 2.
The learnable skills and new weapons are unlocked bit by bit during the course of the game (the tutorials are useful, short and crisp), which allows more and more options in fights.

The game is open-world, i.e. you can freely decide whether you want to follow the course of the mission or explore the area.
The performance is very good. You do not need a 2000 Dollar PC. It runs on hight graphics quality even on a mediocre system.
The sound is secondary in many games. Not so here. The sound is excellent.
The NPC-characters are well designed and well integrated into the game.

RAGE 2 suffers badly from repetitious gameplay. So we got the typical open world which is filled with colorful icons to check off with the occasional random spawing in enemies. You're expected to traverse the open world with a vehicle and the on-foot combat plays like DOOM (2016).

The gunplay (done by ID, the creators of DOOM) is really good, while the driving is bad. Not CYBERPUNK 2077 bad, but bad nonetheless: you seriously under steer in curves, but the traction is better here.
Story-wise don't expect Tolstoy: your base is attacked by the Authority, your commander killed and you wish to avenge her by uniting three clans to build up an army. This requires you to gain trust (I guess) of each clan, by completing quests (the colored markers scattered all over the map). Each clan (faction) has a color so you can identify which of the quests on the map help which faction.
The problem is, like I mentioned at the beginning: repetition. Enemy bases (such as forts, gas stations) which have your run-of-the-mill human raiders or Authority Sentries. I ran into so many of them, each encounter with those sentries is exactly the same tedious: bullet-sponge shooting and dodging their charge attack. Then there's arcs that unlock weird super-human powers which are over-the-top. When you're not clearing areas of enemies you're doing fetch quests.
Think of this as MAD MAX with an emphasis on shooting and the color pink (not joking, there is so much pink in this game, it's horrible) mixed with a bit of BORDERLANDS and a dash of FALLOUT's weirdness. I recommend skipping this one though and picking up MAD MAX instead, it has a better story, better driving, a better world and better NPCs. Even RAGE 1 is better and much cheaper.

1)Weapons. I've never seen a first person shooter that so actively punishes you for using an assault rifle. The damn thing is somehow unwieldly, underpowered, unlikely to kill anyone without putting a full magazine in them, and god help you if you try using it at skirmish range. Every time I equip this thing killing anyone is a chore, even after upgrading the rifle AND myself. It's useful for one thing: Targets that are stationary or too large to miss. Against men, it's useless.
The rocket launcher even feels weak. Its fine against men, but not even so hot against big sentry towers.
Grenades feel useless. I've chucked many into large groups of enemies inside enclosed rooms and failed to kill anyone. Wingsticks are useless without lock-on, and basically kill one guy WITH lock-on unless micromanaged. Which is time I could better use shotgunning people in the face.
Speaking of shotguns, they're apparently useless against scrap metal armor. Shotgun a man in the face at point blank and his helmet/cuirass just flies off. Still, the shotgun is by FAR the most effective weapon and synergizes with the very melee heavy nano abilities. Shotgun manages to be fun due to this.
    2) Keyboard controls are wackily unwieldly. Having to hold control to activate nanotrite powers forces me to take a finger off my movement keys, which limits my movement.
    3) Dialogue. My GOD dialogue. Nearly every NPC talks four times longer than they have any business doing. The writers clearly thought they were comedy geniuses despite having their comedy glands surgically removed, so they attempt to have Borderlands-like LOLWACKY characters that are just annoying, grating, and dumb as hell. I spent an awful lot of time just moaning "oh my GOD shut up already!!"
    4) Bugs. I fell through the floor of a bossfight, and spent a while trying to get back in bounds before falling to my death. More than one "kill everyone" objective failed to trigger after killing everyone at a site. An internet search reveals I'm far from alone in these problems. The level geometry failures are amateur hour crap.
    5) Super schizophrenic difficulty. Waltz through one hostile site without trying, travel 200m to another site and encounter something that seemingly expects a fully upgraded and fully armed player. Or an infinite pile of enemies that will eat all your ammo and keep coming. The difficulty ratings of sites don't seem to have much to do with this.
    6) The music is mostly someone slamming pots and pans together while alternately screaming and hissing. It drowns out every firefight so badly that I turned it off entirely.
    7) They decided to go Open World (TM) so there are few proper set pieces or unique activities. Just loads of road between you and Generic Bandit Site A and Generic Mutant Site B. And unlike other Avalanche engine title Just Cause 3, vehicle is the only travel tech to use.

Basically I had some fun. Mostly in spite of the game. I wouldn't recommend it unless you like putting up with lots of crap between your bouts of fun. Go with something that isn't craptacular generic open-world.

Feels like "one more FPS where you shooty-shooty in an open world, accompanied by a story trying to justify shooty-shooty in even more exotic places". It had good promises, but falls short of expectations.

The story didn't catch much my attention, to start with.
The graphics aren't that great. It's mostly a desert, and you'll have to go through places you already know to get to the action, but now they are boring to experience as much as they are boring-looking.

Most importantly, and what really raised my hopes for playing this game: what was supposed to be the variety of gameplay. Many weapons, supposedly great spells and MOBILITY. To me, you can't miss a game if you give some verticality in level design, and funny ways to move both horizontally and vertically. Rage 2 kind of made me lie: there are both, but it feels like the engine is still feels rough to handle and that you would be more useful hiding and shooting, leaving movement spells alone and useless. The variety of weapons is great, but it's only a product line to choose from, as you need to invest points and really commit to a weapon for it to become effective. Kinda sad when you want to try variety and realize that all other weapons are worthless 'cause you committed to one and only.

Doesn't mean Rage 3 couldn't be a great game. Really, what makes Rage 2 bad is that the gameplay offering sounds great but the game barely scratched the surface of what these concepts are: a variety of weapons that is meaningful, that you are interested in and that is put to good use through good game design, spells that are situational but that you can commit towards if you wish, and meaningful mobility.

I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, really. If you're a fan of shooters, spend more time on Doom, if it's RPG you like, go for the Fallout series. Avoid Rage 2, it won't bring you much fun.

We have to admit that the single player in this game has no potential. Not everyone wants to play all day long, exploring the map, like in Fallout – it just gets boring. Rage 2 could become a perfect Battle Royale experience or pretty simple MMO, but as the game, designed for single player walkthrough, it can keep your interest only for a couple of evenings, perhaps forcing you to come back from time to time to explore all corners of this world.
