-The story is interesting and emotional, but the ending is surprisingly mundane and bittersweet. The story never seems to really climax, which is the biggest issue for me.
-Music is great as it's customary for Supergiant, but there aren't enough songs to carry the game on its musical qualities alone.
7/10 is what i'd give all three games from Supergiant to date. More detailed art, more songs, stronger plot climax and simpler, tighter gameplay is what i'd like to see.

This game is more of an interactive visual novel, and less based on gameplay. There's a lot of reading going on in this game. It's beautiful, and the characters are intriguing. Overall though, the gameplay quickly becomes repetitive. As a game that demands multiple play-throughs to really experience the full effect, I can't bring myself to suffer the repetition.

On its own, this game is well-made, and is unique (albeit repetitive). As the third title from Supergiant Games, it is lacking in the luster and the awe that came after playing Bastion and Transistor.

Starting out of nowhere, it never really allows the faceless, nameless and voiceless player to find out what is going on, since all the other characters are only available for interaction when the developers allow it and reveal little to no information. There is contextual help in dialogue, but it typically reveals fluff details about the locales or characters, but not the overall setting. The purpose and way of reaching the goal (whatever the goal may be) remain unclear.

Aside from the VN there's an aggressive football RPG. However, any RPG actions the player can take can be easily invalidated by the VN part, making freshly empowered characters refuse to participate in a Rite for plot reasons. And those RPG actions rarely change the game drastically. It is possible to make a character faster, bigger or more destructive, but there aren't any new radical abilities to gain.

And the biggest problem is the uniqueness of the Rites. It is impossible to predict what lies ahead and every new Rite brings new enemies with new abilities and tactics. Whereas Bastion and Transistor allowed the losing player to reformulate their approach and try again, Pyre simply tells the player "You should have done X, but that information is largely useless until your next playthrough".

Made as a mixture of disjointed elements neither of which is entirely engaging in its own right, Pyre feels like a failed experiment at something new.

Five Word Review: Simple gameplay loop but enjoyable
Favorite Thing: I really like the world they built. I wish they would have explored it more.
Least Favorite Thing: While the gameplay was solid and fun it gets repetitive after 15 hours.

    Date Completed: 2017-10-14
    Playtime: ~ 15h
    Enjoyment: 7/10
Recommendation: Yes. It's quite the unique flower.

Its like they built a wonderful garden filled with sights sounds and aura of a morning after rain and then the gameplay is nails thrown over all the paths you walk.

And then the gameplay is 3/10 its not quite unplayable but its painful and it keeps interfering over and over with those wonderful experience of the narrative+art+sound combo.

Thing is ive seen lest 2 sports games do a almost identical gameplay (couple of more players only) and both of those pulled it off.
One was rewarding for upgrading players and the other was a mechanical tight game that rewarded skill and the skill ceiling was very high.

Did not like the game at all but i might still buy a plushie of ti'zo the characters are a easy 10/10 the whole thing makes me very sad so close to being a great game had they just nailed the gameplay.

-Good game, mix between text adventure and sports arcade with touches of RPG although this mix of genres does not work very well.

Good story although very linear. Game very polished. The best (for me) is the part of sports arcade.

    Story- 6/10
Pretty mediocre overall. Many things could have been expanded on, and for a game that depends on the dialogue of the characters and the overall plot, you could say I was pretty disappointing
Characters - 7/10 - Characters are fine, they aren't too robotic, nor are they too archetypal. Enough dialogue among the characters bring them to life Art 9/10 I am captivated by the

    Art 9/10
I am captivated by the art, scenery, and ambiance. However, beware that there is almost no story cutscenes, animations, or anything crazy every happening. Even so, I rate it highly because the art, patterns, and scenery are breathtaking
    Gameplay - 5/10
After essentially playing the same map with few "adjustments of battlefield" here and there for over 10 hours, you could say it got boring real fast. Fun for the first few hours
Enjoyment - 8/10, You could say that my expectation for the stories and characters kept me playing the entire time, warranting a high enjoyment rating. Of course, expectations fell flat for everything so it was not worth the time spent playing

    Overall- 6/10
Great art, but when you dig into it, thats all there is. Perhaps you could say budget was the limiting factor, but the gameplay was also pretty cumbersome and boring as well. There is not enough meaningful dialogue for a visual novel, and it overall fell flat on itself. Wish I could give it more

A great looking game that successfully blends different genres and offers the most distinctive setting from all Supergiant’s titles. Its ending and lack of online PvP along with framerate drops disappointed me though. [10/2017, p.48]

The unusual combination of virtual sport and text narration that does not fit everyone but definitely will find its fans. Moreover, it has an excellent sound and visuals. [Issue#277]

One of the major Pyre’s features is that you can’t die. Sure, a fight to the death is nothing if not stimulating, but death is still a release – and no one escapes Downside that easily. Actually, inability to die is akin to a curse, because, although you can’t die – you still can lose. And you will have to find strength to keep going despite that loss, despite having let down your teammates and friends. [Issue#222, p.56]
