    This game knows it priorities. It puts FUN at the top of its list and makes no concessions. It never forgets that its primary focus is to entertain and as such it never penalizes the player or arbitrarily restricts you. Nor does it sacrifice subtleties. The small touches in terms of animation, ambient sound and art design generate a believable atmosphere of a slowly decaying metropolis. Disregard statements of poor controls or performance problems- I have a mid level PC and play with keyboard and mouse and the game is a dream to play on high settings. These comments are not written naively I have been playing games of all genres consistently for the past 20 years and own all three current gen systems as well as a self-built pc, and I can honestly say that this game is one of the most fun titles I have ever played. Buy it, play it, you won't be disappointed. One of my favorite all time games.… Expand

    The game gives off mixed feelings to me. While screwing around in Free Roam is the only fun part of the game, It's story line is impossible to follow, and Alex Mercer is possibly the most cheesiest character I've seen in-game ever. If you plan on just screwing around and not to follow the story, I advise you do just that because the games story is pretty poor.

While i really love all the cool and fun powers of the main character, there is not much praiseworthy in this game except those. I suggest to wait for a price drop before getting this. 6.5/10… Expand

    Really fun game! If you like going around a free roamed world and being able to kill w/e u liked and see lots of gore, you'll enjoy this. Graphics are pretty decent if you have a good enough system to pump them out. I like it a lot though!

    Think grand theft auto without the car jacking and super powers. This game does what it's suppose to and is hours of fun with plenty to do. This game is a good buy.

    This game is probably the most fun since GTA 3. The Mix from open world and location based missions is very exciting. The best thing about this is that you dont need the best pc. It works with just a normal 2 years old gamer pc on highest graphic. The effect-dialog soundmix is a bit unbalanced so you had to play it loud.     This game blew me away. The story is confusing (though actually quite a good one if you figure it out) and the plot twists hardly revolutionary. The AI is quite predictable, the graphics is average, the physics is less than brilliant. But the game is SO FUN. The best fun is when a strike team is called down on you - it takes skill and determination to take them apart in the latter stages of the game. DONT PLAY IT ON A CONSOLE. It will ruin it for you. The long (10+) combos are impossible to get period and the control is a lot less dexterous. A keyboard and mouse allow much more diversity and make the game leaps and bounds more fun (the PC porting is done extremely well so it doesn't feel a bit like a port). Oh, the Physics is a LOT better on the PC - on a PS3 it's horrible making some battles next to impossible. Far and away the most fun and immersive game of the year.… Expand

    This game is without a doubt something to be impressed by. The game play alone is "interactive" enough without the spine chilling twists thrown at you by the designers. 9/10 with the possibility to become a 10/10 with some minor tweaks.

    This game fits the needs of all men, total control of the most powerful entity on the world! Not to mention the world is by far one of the biggest sandbox environments I've ever experienced in a single player game, comparable to GTA:San Andreas. This is by far the best game so far this year and is a must have!

    While I tend to go with Metacritic reviews that are in the low 80's at the very least, especially for a game this expensive ($50 through Steam, which is on the pricier side), I am very glad I decided to give Prototype a chance. I found the graphics to be excellent, the gameplay to be smooth, and the targeting to be quite easy, so I don't understand where the complaints regarding these aspects come from. While the main storyline may seem somewhat short, the whole point is to do some side missions to accumulate points with which to buy your power upgrades. I found that I was able to purchase new upgrades almost as soon as they became available because of the side missions that I did - and believe me, I'm not usually a side-mission kind of guy. The gameplay is so entertaining, however, that I had no problem in this area. I also loved the time-slowing aspect as you change powers. It made it so that I was changing powers back and forth like a pro in no time. All-in-all, I find this to be an excellent, very entertaining (to the point of sometimes laughing out loud), well-executed game, and I would recommend it wholeheartedly.… Expand

It is pure fun!! 1 point less from ten points due to save points, target system and short play time. But nevertheless I enjoyed it greatly. It is pure entertainment .     This game is a must have. If you liked Assasin's Creed, then you will love this one. This game blew me away when i bought it, and i highly recommend it to everyone.

The ones that jumped out at me were the "DC" comics logos. At this point a person playing this game needs to realize that [Prototype] is a comic book adapted to a video game. Yes its gory, heavy on action, hordes of enemies, and lots of explosions. Like a comic book it relies on the visual to draw you. With this in mind one realizes that the graphics are not 'cutting edge' (which has never been a selling point for me anyway) but instead have a stylized feel to them that fits the comic book theme. The game play mechanics are actually varied and interesting. It has been said by many that there are only one or two 'good powers' and seeing as each power is suited to a particular game play style that may be true and not from person to person. I tried to vary styles and found that using the appropriate power in the right situation made battles much more visually pleasing and easier to handle. AI has also been put down by some reviewers, and to this I do agree, common enemy AI is rotten, while the late game big bads are almost painfully good. This can been seen as a stylized choice on the designers again to build that comic book superhero theme. The super(anti)hero is superior to common soldiers and zombies. and only slightly better than the best both sides can throw at him, a familiar comic theme. The final point to follow is the story, which actually suffers badly under the comic book style. After fully completing the story and the 'web of intrigue' story mechanic I believed I understood what was going on, but could not be certain due to the disjointed narrative. Further in keeping with the comic book style there is mention of a opposing superbeing/nemesis which may be a character you have met, the final boss, or more likely the nemesis that will appear in sequels or in an actually published comic. I actually expected to have an ending cut scene of this being declaring his vendetta like a comic cliffhanger. Overall [Prototype] is a good game, but fits best to those who enjoy comic books or who enjoy playing a super being against a horde of minions like a bad action flick.… Expand

    This game could have been great. It would have been great, had they held back on the release and worked on making this game fun. The story is meh at best, the city feels like a lifeless sandbox, and the minigames and hidden items are little to keep me playing this game when the story is all said and done. If you want a brilliant sandbox game, i'd recommend GTAIV.

    Ok, just picture this, Grand Theft Auto + Super Powers, now WHO in their RIGHT MIND, DOESN'T, want THAT? Brutal, fast, and intense action. Senseless killing of civilians is a blast. The varied powers keeps the game unique, and the devastators are simply put, just plain awesome.

    Despite the hype, this was probably the worst game I've played this year, it seemed the developers cared more for cool looking kill cinematics than actual game play, because 2 seconds into the game I realized that it takes about 3 or 4 seconds just to consume someone, and by then I usually have a rocket blast where my head used to be. The graphics were definately a major let down, because I am only running a 8800 gts 512 and managed to play it on max settings with no halting whatsoever. While movement was near flawless, the way you moved during combat was hard to control, and nigh impossible to use. The game setting and the way npcs acted was retarted at worst and stupid at best, at one point I found my self killing some huge snake thing with girl at the center when I get hit by a taxi that decides its next destination is me.… Expand

The story falls apart, no one is awed by what's going on, you can jump off a building and land in the middle of a military base and no one attacks. Poor AI and spastic/jerky action. Third: story-based gameplay is boring. Side-quests don't fit the global idea of virus-infested city survival - but, damn! - there's so much fun in them! So, it's over with sadness (of course, there much more unpleasant thing, but they're insignificant). Everything else (that works well) gives you a hell lot of fun and entertainment. This number of variety of gameplay you won't find nowhere else. If only game wasn't made in this 'console arcade style'... Anyway, i'm playing and enjoying the process (mostly ;) P.S. You will be at the edge of your seat as you see up to 6 deadly Hunters after your carcass while 5 different variations of tanks and helicopters and foot soldiers carrying one of 4 military weapons are firing at you. You pick your side: will you side with the military and destroy the infected nests codenamed HIVEs, will you side with the infected and demolish every military base that springs up, or will you simply kill them all? Either way, none of them see you as an ally. Aside from its current level of awesomeness, There is one glitch that comes to limit my love for this game: The camera. Whenever in close quarters or when there's a ton of enemies on-screen, the camera tends to be incredibly sluggish and jumpy. Putting glitches aside, Prototype is an absolute must-have this summer, and although short (Story beaten in one day), it accounts for its number of sidequests, variety of superpowers and completely over-the-top and almost unnecessary Devastator moves that kill all enemies around you.… Expand

The graphics are mid end, but the size of the environments and number of entities requires at least a decent mid range rig to play - the graphics aren't that intense. In fact, some of the textures are lacking quite a bit. There is no real physics engine - nothing like the GTAIV physics engine, Good game. It's sort of a combination of Wolverine: Uncaged, Assassin's Creed, and GTA... Minus the physics. In regards to comments below, such as Jared J., the game ran 100% smoothly for me. The audio was fine, and the game ran with no hitches for me. No bugs, no problems, nothing - I wonder if some users have inferior rigs or driver incompatibility issues. I'd definitely recommend picking this game up when the price drops a bit - good game.… Expand

I would actually rate this game around an 8.5 or so if I could; I found one of the most accurate reviews to be the gametrailers review I recommend checking that one out for a honest fair opinion. I normally would never comment on anothers comment but seriously Jared stop trolling almost everything you said was both false and ludicrous and if you truly feel that way(as hard as that is to believe)... well it's best you just keep that to yourself as it's completely unhelpful.… Expand

    I have to admit that this game has a horrible story. It is comprised of other peoples memories and when you watch the memories its hard to understand what half of them mean. The targeting system is helpful at times but it can also be a nuisance when your in the heat of battle, but all these flaws aside I truly loved this game. The powers are amazing and really draw you into the game. Even though Mercers abilities range from pulling helicopters out of the sky to destroying tanks with your fists. The game always finds a way to make things challenging and interesting, so long as you don't put the difficulty setting on easy. I recommend renting this game if you can. Sure other games are "free roam" but they aren't as fun to just "roam" as this is. Spectacular abilities and just an all out fun arsenal of moves make gameplay really never get old. Challenge yourself. See how many helicopters you can airjack without ever touching the ground.....(don't just blast through the campaign and say "Wow, that was a waist of 12 hours!?!" I feel that this game did have a little more potential (multiplayer, etc) but all in all it is fun to play, and these days, it isn't all about graphics. Missions are escort, kill, etc. Mission gamplay is mostly fun and unique,only broken by buggy ai and lack of imagination in the level design. Graphics and sound bugs need more attention. In closing, this game has many faults and problems that could have easily been fixed. These faults are common in most bad games. What makes Prototype unique is that the sandbox rampage fun, more than makes up for those faults. My biggest complait is that I want more.… Expand

    I don't have the best computer like how jared claims and yet i had the graphics on the highest they could go and it ran fine, and the game looked great. Not onlyl does this game look great it plays great too. If you liked any of the GTA's, or assassins creed you will love this game because it is a refreshing mix between the two.     I was never a fan of the GTA play style until this game came out. Visually outstanding and fast pace make this game an incredible buy along with an interesting story line. IMO This game is worth playing.

    I Played this game start to finish and its excellent. Im not a novice ive played every good game title from the last 10 year and this is down right fun. Its GTA without all the stupid walking around its great.

    To Jared J: you would think that if all developers care about was graphics this game would actually have great graphics but it doesent what it does have is fun game play and a decent story to give cause to you slaughtering hundreds of thousands of ppl and throwing cars at helicopters.

    Absolutely amazing game, love the open world. Graphics were fine in my books and the powers are awesome. Found my self trying to get every single upgrade and swapping what power I use when I get bored of the same thing.     Over-the-top carnage, exploding helicopters, slicing, dicing and bloodshed, creating mayhem in downtown New York - what's not to like? Some control issues when using mouse & keyboard, but nothing too bad. Can get a bit samey, but it's hugely cathartic after a bad day at the office :)

    Prototype is a really well thought out game. It takes place in Manhatten after a virus really messes up everything. You start out by trying out some of the powers you can get. You can unlock the powers throughout the game. The graphics look pretty good, but it still looks a little dull. The game could take about 6-8 hours to beat if you don't do the side missions.     It's good, not-so-clean, mindless fun; it's a gory version of GTA without the story and elaborate atmosphere, but it packs in a lot more hack&slash action. The graphics are nothing to write home about, lightweight enough to run on older cards with ease, but detailed enough to make this worth-while.

    This game is good, but by the end you really just want to finish the story. You actually get tired of playing, but want to finish it to see how it ends. At least that's wher I was at. I ended up not caring much about the actual game just finishing.

The fighting can also be a bit clunky and basic, and explosions may cause rapid framerate flex (I use 16gb ram and a 2gb video card, ultra high end specs) but nothing game breaking, just mildly irritating given that the newest 2011 games can't even force my framerate down. Comes down to pollish I suppose, but seriously, the good outweighs the bad here. The upcoming sequel, I believe, will really help this franchise come into the light, but this one is an above average first installment.… Expand

    Could have been alot better. Graphics were not good at all. Special effects are horrible. Gameplay is fun, but gets old after a while. Kind of a spider-man trash game. You will have fun with just running around the city snatching people up, but it will get old.

    Mindless fun. It only kept me interested for about 4 hours. The story is pretty abysmal, especially given the way that the game expects you to sympathize with Alex Mercer. It's a little difficult to watch him have angsty conversations about his humanity right after he just used someone's grandmother as a skateboard.

Being super-powered doesn't mean that you can just blaze through the missions with ease (or it'll be extremely boring), and I think that some people tend to forget that.

    Most people have issues with the target lock feature, but there's a con; once you've locked unto a target, you don't have to pan the camera around to face it, so once you pick something up and want to throw it at your target, you can just do so and mercer automatically throws it at your target wherever it is. The gameplay can get chaotic so you'll find that this is a pretty useful feature.    … Expand

I encourage Radical Entertainment work and I hope that they are going to fix those small weaknesses. The game/franchise has potential to become better in the future.

    Prototype series is one of the most mechanically entertaining free roam action games out there, on par with Just Cause series. Combat is very visceral and fun, traversing is fast and satisfying, stealth is very boring but fortunately avoidable for the most parts.

    A massive variety of upgrades that is well made and actually crucial to some mission. There's a lot of level puzzle that rewards you if use your skills right. Whoever, you could just barge your way through everything if you're persistent enough.

    There are two types of boss fight in this game; Mobile and Immobile. While I love those Mobile one, I have the opposite take on the other. I wouldn't go into details, but you would notice what I'm taking about If you played this.

    Putting those negative aside, It has one of the smoothest character mobility I've played which makes you love the pace of it. In my 10 hours play-through campaign of it, the gameplay really carries this game back and makes you forget all the lacking details it may or may not have.    … Expand

Going into Prototype at that time, I did not even understand how to play and wasted the same mission (the very first, so to speak, tutorial), but all the same I did it and I went through the game further but got stuck on a mission with a super-hunter. Then it so happened that I eventually abandoned it. 2019, I decided to take it out of nostalgia and maybe go through it sometime. 2020 is the time of passage. Now, at the expense of the game all the same: for 2020, it’s somehow not the same as it was in childhood, at the expense of graphics, it’s also not very good (I played at 1920x1080 resolution and everything at maximum speed) but the game looks soapy and textures, to put it mildly better quality. I didn't like the plot at all, everything is too simple, obviously, it feels like they were doing it on the knee (probably it is). Expected to see something interesting from add. missions but these are 50+ completely identical missions with different game difficulty. Pleased with the idea of ​​the game, such as a virus, mutants and everything like that.     I would play it at an addictive level at the time. A great game, it still has costs. I wish P2 was a much better game. Alex Mercer is always a baby

    Игра бомба , конечно. В детстве тащился просто, крови - тьма, экшен - сочный, способности - на любой вкус. Сюжет, конечно - ни о чем, но интересные моменты присутствуют. Во 2 часть не играл и не буду, эту - советую.

    Combat'ı epey başarılıydı. Açtığınız skillerle düşmanlarınızı birçok farklı yöntemle alt edebiliyordunuz. Oyun hızı ile birlikte epey eğlenceli bir hal alıyordu.

    Игра сама по себе просто офигенная но боевую систему делал безрукие уроды, как такое говно можно было сделать! Управление на пк делал тоже такой же дебил.

    good game, takes some time to be finished and u will need alot of youtube vids to be able to finish the side tasks but over all its worth it

Сюжет вроде неплохой , но вот игровая составляющая просто ужас , боевка тупо закликивание врагов , босс это вообще ужас , 2 часа ковыряешь , а он тебя заспамливает зелеными шариками (какие зеленые шарики в реальном мире ? игра хочет соответсовать законам физики , но в таких моментах это тотальный провал). 4/10 за унылые механики геймплея , на клавиатуре с мышью еще иЧто можно сказать.     The game has a wide upgrade tree and the choice of abilities is really impressive. The player can switch the set of mutations at any time. Over time, the character evolves into a real killing machine that almost nothing can stop. Destroy the army with a direct attack, break helicopters in the air and crumple tanks like paper, or infiltrate the base unnoticed, disguise yourself as one of the military personnel and commit sabotage - the choice is yours.
    Graphically, the game looks pretty good for its time. The atmosphere of New York dynamically changes from calm to a complete apocalypse.
    To learn more about the story, Alex Mercer needs to absorb the DNA of people involved in the events that took place. Over time, the truth is revealed. In the end, the plot is capable of surprising.
    The biggest drawback of the game can be considered an overpowered final boss, which will force you to repeatedly start a difficult battle over and over again.

    The gameplay and special powers were legendary, creating chaos in the city was a lot of fun, but I didn't like the story at all and the missions were not fun at all, except for the boss battles.

    Prototype isn’t the type of game that shines despite of all it’s flaws. No, Prototype is the kind of game that surprises us that it isn’t in a worse shape just because of all it’s shortcomings. A mediocre game that tried so hard to be cool that it got lost in shallowness.

    Prototype's combat and world traversal alone can provide more than a few hours of entertainment, I just can't get over how cheap a lot of the game feels. Whether it's the dated looks, its frustratingly difficult latter portion, or its awkward storytelling, Prototype often feels like a budget title that unfortunately doesn't have a budget price.
