Oct 11, 2022Intelligent design and fierce intensity combine to make Prodeus the finest single-player shooter of the year so far. It loses marks for a confusing economy and overworld, but it’s still worth whispering in the same reverent voice you save for the classics.
-
Oct 11, 2022Prodeus is an excellent experience for modern and retro first-person shooter fans. The pure carnage of the gameplay and high replayable offered makes it a game that can be easily returned to in small bursts or long play sessions. The level themes may be limited, but if you’re here for a challenge and gallons of pixelated blood, you’ve just found one of the most addictive shooters of 2022.
-
Oct 10, 2022In some respects Prodeus pretty much seems to be a clone of the very first Doom, but it imitates the legend ridiculously well, because the guys from Bounding Box Software perfectly understand the pillars of id Software’s success. Their game is fast and satisfying, old school and modern at the same time, sounds great and looks even better.
-
Sep 28, 2022The 2020s resurgence of "boomer shooters" continues with Prodeus, one of the best examples of the subgenre, and one of the best games in it, period.
-
Oct 19, 2022Prodeus is an excellent title that can provide you with several hours of adrenaline injection and fun. Solid level design, gratifying gunplay, and beautiful aesthetics, comprise this well-made FPS, one of the best in recent memory for sure.
-
Oct 19, 2022Prodeus is the reincarnation of classic FPS games from the '90s. There isn't much of a story here, but let's be honest, if you are playing this game, it's for the blood and mayhem!
-
Oct 1, 2022In recent years, the old-school FPS genre has been undergoing a kind of rebirth; and if the results are games like Prodeus, we should be glad it has. Solid gunplay, excellent soundtrack, and graphics that might be old-school, but never feel dated: this is an excellent debut for Bounding Box Games. Granted, it’s not flawless and the checkpoint system especially raises some eyebrows, but Produes is definitely a game worth checking out if you’re into old-school FPSs. And even if you’re not, honestly.
-
Oct 4, 2022Prodeus’ ultraviolent combat is fantastic if that’s what you’re in the mood for. But even the most delicious meal can sour in the stomach if there’s simply too much. In short bursts, Prodeus not just stands on the shoulders of giants, it dwarfs them. Over hours, though, the incessant action and jackhammer sound design start to feel a little restrictive and repetitive. Prodeus is a near-perfect homage to late 90s shooters, but you don’t need to be a demon spawn of Doom to enjoy it.
-
Sep 30, 2022Almost two years in early access were apparently enough to rough out the edges and Prodeus 1.0 is an intense, fun and satisfying first person shooter.
-
Sep 23, 2022Prodeus is stupidly fun, looks incredible, sounds fantastic, and is launching into a subscription service many people reading this may have. It’s been a bit of a weird marketing cycle leading up to the launch of the game, but I hope as many people as possible at least try it out. It’s one hell of a love letter to the FPS genre for both the old and the new.

Apr 3, 2023Prodeus is a classic Doom clone through and through, but that isn't a knock at all. It nails the core mechanics well from the level design to pacing. While the enemies feel like reskinned versions of what you're familiar with, the gameplay loop works thanks to some solid shooting mechanics. Even though it lacks real innovation in the space and the multiplayer is practically dead, the inclusion of a map maker along with a plethora of custom maps almost negates those issues. Overall, shooting fans will like this one, and curious players can use as an entry point into the re-merging boomer shooter genre.
-
Oct 10, 2022Prodeus is a great retro shooter that impresses with complex levels, brutality and variable weapons. But it still feels a bit like Early Access, because it is very short and with insufficient variability of enemies.
-
Sep 30, 2022Neat retro shooter with good game flow and sound design, yet turns out to be a little too easy and concludes a little too abruptly.
-
Oct 10, 2022Prodeus is self-consciously an old-school shooter, and it does a good job in replicating the frenetic, explosive gunplay and oppressive atmosphere of classic 90’s FPS titles like Doom and Quake. Sadly, beyond some interesting aesthetics, it doesn’t really stake out much of an identity of its own. The lack of any real story, worldbuilding or unique gameplay mechanics stops Prodeus short of being something really special. Still, if you’d like a game where you can switch off your brain and just exercise your trigger finger, Prodeus provides a great world to blast your way through.
-
Oct 3, 2022Prodeus is a noble tribute to the original Doom with plenty of action, excellent stylized visuals, and great level design. However, the brief campaign grows repetitive as the mechanics don't evolve beyond the basics, and multiplayer is unfortunately empty.

Dec 16, 2020Prodeus is a wonderful breath of fresh air in the FPS genre. So many games lately focus on realism and intense graphics. Prodeus reminds you of the genre’s roots and is damn good at doing so. If you want a more “modern” feel, you can switch the sprites over to being renders, which does have its own charm. I think fans of any type of FPS game will enjoy Prodeus. It is a fun, action-packed game that is fast-paced and easy to pick up and play for just small bites of time if you want. Some levels are longer than others, but it is easy to pick it up, play a level, and put it back down if you want. And that is something I appreciate being able to do with a busy schedule. Prodeus will bring nostalgia to some and insight to others. But one thing is for sure, hopping in and destroying some demons is always a good time. [Early Access Review Score = 96]

Oct 6, 2022Bounding Box delivers an anachronistic high-wire act, and the perhaps the best shooter outright since Doom Eternal. [Eurogamer Recommended]
-
Mar 7, 2021A bit tight in terms of content on the single-player campaign side (for the moment), the title makes up for it with the possibility of downloading many levels created by a community that already seems very active. [Early Access Review Score = 75]
