    While its cutesy aesthetic won't work for all, Portal Knights is a game that capitalises brilliantly on both its RPG and sandbox elements, elevating the merits of both. With seasonal events planned to keep players' attentions and an endless canvas to explore once you've completed the Story mode, this is a worthy challenger to Minecraft's throne.

    The best thing I can say about Portal Knights is that it is an effective off-shoot of the juggernaut that is Minecraft and Microsoft’s hit title could actually learn a thing or two from Keen Games’ effort here.

    This game is now (as of this review date) 3 1/2 years old, and is still a solid game. I continue to come back and play it frequently. The developer continues to put out new DLC content, and are responsive to user feedback (bug reports, suggestions, etc.) I have over 300 hours in the game, after re-installing because of a system crash. Previous install had 500+ hours.

The art style can be hit-or-miss but I like it because things are easily discernible within the game. The crafting is cool, the different environments are all great, and the difficulty is just right for a casual sandbox game. There's just nothing to really do after you hit a certain point in the game, which is a big bummer.… Full Review »
