I genuinely like the game, its fun with friends and has a lot of replayability in the story worlds, but I won't say that it is perfect, I like the fact that they removed the chance aspect of Possibly getting a character that you really want, but it is missing that garden warfare charm, it plays like a 3rd person shooter with linear PvP maps that you would normally see in a game, Like TF2I genuinely like the game, its fun with friends and has a lot of replayability in the story worlds, but I won't say that it is perfect, I like the fact that they removed the chance aspect of Possibly getting a character that you really want, but it is missing that garden warfare charm, it plays like a 3rd person shooter with linear PvP maps that you would normally see in a game, Like TF2 or CS:GO, and the upgrade system rewards players that stick with 1 character, wanna try Imp? sorry but you have already invested a lot of time in Dead beard and it will give you a disadvantage, also, some of the passive abilities that were in GW1/2 are not here or don't show it, sunflower revives people fast but anyone with the perk that allows revives faster is going to have the same revive speed as a weaker sunflower. Also, remember those other perks? you know, fast burrow, super chilli bean bomb and extra sticky goop? they aren't in here either.

overall, it is a good introduction to a 3rd person shooter but Not a good introduction to the GW series But I will give some hope, due to the fact that it is early in its lifespan

This game is very fun. I have no issues when playing it other than Super Brainz being a bit too overpowered, but he definitely will be balanced in a near update like Nightcap. The game is obviously going to get updates like the first two games, so that’s good.

I know some people didn't like this game, but come on, there's so much possibility by eliminating the subclasses, now we can have more characters than before and it will be more fun!
And on my own opinion, this game it's very nice and fun! And this is different than the previous games, that makes it better! Because it's not the same thing over and over

And most of the ability is so easy to use and so unavoidable, the whole game play don't involve skill play, and makes most of the skillful player to bail this game. If EA decide to drop the idea of character variant for them to better balance and provide a better gameplay, I am said to say the failed badly and I already want to get a refund on this game day 1.

Bought my wife a copy of the game and she was disappointed with how it looked and played. I don't really like the new characters myself but the maps look gorgeous. (although they are terrible to play on) After that, I played a few rounds and felt the exact same way; clunky controls and aiming sensitivity problems.

It could be worse, but Battle for Neighborville has many flaws, including stuttering issues even for the best PCs, aiming problems, lack of variants, and the fact that almost every returning character has been nerfed to the ground.

This nonsense of sell it now, patch it later needs to die! Games should not be releasing in this state.

Furthermore, they changed the core mechanics of the PvP from Team Fortress 2 style, to Overwatch... for seemingly no reason other than to cash in on that hype. Paladins is doing it, why not PvZ? Well here's why... you dun split your fan base Popcap! YA DUN F@$%#^ it up son! Not to mention they nuked Variants, most of the motivation people had to keep grinding coins lol. I get it, balance was too much, but the game is still horribly unbalanced.

Maps are uninspired compared to the original 2 games, and are mostly rehashed areas from the free roam regions. Very disappointed with the maps for PvP.

Superbrains still dominates and MOST classes still need balancing. The game had zero advertising $ pumped into it and now it's clear why. They didn't want to invest the money, they knew this was a risky move. As of right now, that risk IS NOT paying off.

So yeah, split fanbase, terrible performance, balancing issues but a very fun PvE focus and co-op. Sadly those two things are not why most people flock to the series.

The Garden Warfare series has always been about the crazy combat and the unique characters and ability's, and this doesn't miss out here, variants can be gone, but it's understandable since GW2 is a unbalanced game with its overpowered variants. The Garden Warfare series now go on a new direction, Battle For Neighborville, i'm gonna say my experiences as level 260. The New Upgrade systems are great witch you can create your own character throw unique upgrades and ability's. 4 Maps, 2 for zombies,2 for plants, the story's behind these maps are basically the same with some minor things changed, you get three items trow fighting three bosses, and then you fight the " final boss " , witch to be honest aren't hard if you are quick enough, the map exploration is great, with a not-so-dumb-AI, there are hidden easter eggs, and also battles that can start in the streets if you find a zombie/plant champion and kill him. The Multiplayer matches are decent, i didn't experience any crashes or lag.The game also adds 6 new heroes, 3 Plants and 3 Zombies, all of them look great, the patches in October has buffed and nerfed some characters since the game in the Founder's Edition has really unbalanced, at least they fixed that. And dont worry that all characters from GW2 return as well. The New Progression systems is meh, you dont have cards to buy like in GW1 or GW2 anymore, now its a machine that you waste 30,000 in game coins to get a random item, these items can be a Appearance Customization, Emoji, Dances, or legendary items, the problem is, it's that you can take up 40-50 minutos to get around 30,000 coins and you randomly get a dance or emoji witch basically no one uses on multiplayer matches. In Conclusion, Battle For Neighborville might not be what some PVZ GW fans wanted, but it still provides a good experience for $39,99. Expand

The lack of variants isn't as bad as some are saying. Both GW games were dominated by certain variants, rendering the others obsolete anyway. Having completely new characters added to the game is even better than variants and if they can get things fixed and add in new maps, characters, and customizations, it'll be even better.

The PvE free roam zones alone are worth the price of admission. The PvZ humor is here and is great as always. Highly recommended.

Alright, this is going to be a review that picks apart every flaw of this train wreck of a game, so buckle your seatbelts.

So let me start off by saying I've sunk hundreds of hours into the previous PvZ GW titles, with that out of the way, let's get onto the review.

On the surface, this game seems to be a clear upgrade from the previous two, better graphics, more classes, a revamped upgrade system... and that dreamy expectation holds up for about the first 10 seconds after you get into the main game. The only thing I legitimately enjoyed about this new game was the improvement in graphics, which was the reason I am giving this game a 2/10 instead of a flat zero.

The other mechanics are a complete disaster to say the least, with some of the new classes being unplayable and the ability revamps rendering others useless. The balance at launch was so ####ing bad that I took a break from the game for several months before even attempting to come back to it for round two, desperately wanting a big balance patch to make the zombie side support and utility characters goddamn playable. The balance patch eventually came in the form of a wizard character, which is locked behind either a paywall or several hours of grinding. But this is not the 'fun' type of grind that was required to get the 2 secret characters in the previous in GW2, this is monotonous collection of coins for an absolutely broken character that was a last-minute effort to please the fanbase. You can probably already see how bad the balance is, so let's move on to some other failed promises and problems.

A lot of people have been talking about the removal of the character variants in a negative tone and I completely agree, the reason being that the variants were some of the best parts about the previous games, and removing them in choice of a poorly fleshed-out point-based system of upgrades was a downright terrible idea. The variants are what made Garden Warfare FUN, and that little boost of enjoyment every time a new character was added to your arsenal was one of the best feelings I've had in a game in basically forever. Another terrible mistake EA and Popcap made was breaking all the characters instead of keeping them where they were, examples being citron and scientist, as well as a slew of others. All these ability and utility changes completely ruined the gameplay with these characters as they are no longer fun to play, it's just repetitive fighting, over and over.

Another huge mistake that was made during production of this game was the change in multiplayer maps and the lobby/waiting area. I feel like restricting players to fewer game modes and removing fun modifiers and bot-filled matches for practice was a mistake because, once again, it didn't need to be changed. People liked old features and they have changed anyway, for no good reason once again. another point I would like to bring up is the 'Giddy Park' section of the game, which ruins the fun completionist and secret-hunter side of things for me. In the original game (GW2 SPOILERS AHEAD) finding all the gnomes, finding goat and torchwood, finding the secret fish hat and finishing most of the snowglobes were all great experiences, which I feel like are missing in the new game, and while they make an appearance in the PvE aspects of the game, it's just not the same, you're not getting any PvP bonuses or just cool stuff to use in other parts of the game from the wonderful PvE side of the game.

The last thing I'm gonna talk about is the woefully bad PvP in this game. The maps, while I have not played many of them, all are extremely repetitive and prioritize a much more overwatch type of gameplay, rather than the wacky, chaotic styles of the old games, with interactive elements being everywhere. These maps just are not fun, and the game is sometimes extremely buggy as well.

Thanks for listening to my rant about this disaster of a game :)

Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville is an amazing next chapter in the series. Its story campaign alone is enough to warrant a buy. It’s not just the graphics, the characters, or the amazing multiplayer that makes it a must buy, it’s the charm that the developers have dialed into this game. Every minute playing feels like you’re on track to discover something ridiculously funny and over the top. Though there are a few key tweaks needed to make the battles spot on, it’s the culmination of other things that make this a great game.
