Mar 27, 2015I've been waiting for this game for over 10 years and Obsidian delivered beyond my expectations. When I realised I'd spent 40 minutes on the character creation screen alone, I knew I had "found my game". Been a long time since that's happened.

Mar 28, 2015The game we've been waiting for more than a decade !!! and so far it looks like a masterpiece,
Oldschool gameplay with nowaday tech :)
Thank you Obsidian !!! -
Apr 14, 2015Finally an RPG that feels like the old classics, with storyling and dialogue that is interesting and well written. The mechanics are close to Baldur's Gate, albeit without all of the fancy-smanshy Dragon Age graphics. If you enjoy classic RPGs like me, and don't require top of the art graphics to enjoy the experience, this is a definite buy.
-
Mar 27, 2015I recently finished the Baldur's gate Enhanced Edition, and then comes Pillars of Eternity.
It's SO GOOD, i can't believe someone dit it : a game as good as Baldur's gate 2, with a real story and stunning gameplay.
Thank you Obsidian for making my dream come true ! -

Apr 7, 2015My expectations were very high and Pillars of Eternity exceeded them. This is the best game I have played in the last 15 years. This score of a "10" was not given to offset the "zero" trolls, this is the actual score I would give this game. The future of PC gaming is bright indeed.

Apr 2, 2015The best thing to happen to the cRPG genre since Baldur's Gate 2. Beautifully hand-drawn backgrounds, interesting characters with great voice acting, a nice new twist on the classic D&D ruleset, an interesting storyline and much more.
-
Apr 8, 2015This is the game RPG fans are waiting for years to come, and it delivered.Rich text grabs your attention every so often, the experience is so sucked in. anyway ,recommended for true RPG lover .
-
Mar 26, 2015A brilliant adventure and a deep rich atmosphere. Marvellously crafted RPG. One of the best games in years. Any epithets are not enough. If you like deep and rich games - play this one.
-
Apr 3, 2015Only Kick-starter I backed because I'm a fan of Obsidians games and was not disappointed!
Can only echo previous reviews: Fantastic writing with choice, customisation and a great tactical old school feel.
If you like old school RPG's like Baldur's Gate, Torment etc, you are probably already playing, but if not, GO AND BUY IT! -
Mar 28, 2015This is one hell of a game. Definitely one of the best RPGs since BG series ended. It totally blows away crappy RPGs like DA:I. This game totally worths it. If you like the older Infinity Engine titles, then you are going to love this.

May 1, 2015I backed this on kickstarter and had high hopes as I approved of the ideas and design decisions made by Obsidian. They really did deliver on all my expectations. The first true gaming kickstarter success story. Other kickstarted games have been good, some have approached greatness, but this is the first to reach it. Game of the Year 2015!
-
Jul 7, 2015Folks I have to say this is genuinely the best game I've played in years, took me back to the days of Baldurs Gate etc.
Totally gripped me, decent combat, good story, not too text heavy, decent graphics, lovely spell animations, good customisation options and great NPCs, frankly I loved it.
one of those "just one more mission" games. Spectacular and it was about £15! -

Mar 31, 2015A very good game, just like former Black Isle references such BG 1&2... The way to play is old style, probably not suitable for newer players. I'm really happy to see that more and more RPG are like that. The team progression is really cool, and the places to visit are various and classical. Very great work!
-
Mar 27, 2015This game is the successor to the old Infinity Engine games, without a doubt. When the combat starts the game screams BG / IWD at you. It just feels right.
-
Mar 26, 2015Best rpg in years! Obsidian have done an amazing job with this game! Amazing writing, great tactical combat and its just a blast to play! Simply amazing, go and buy it now!!!! Godsidian!
-
Mar 26, 2015Obsidian managed to deliver a stellar game, looks excellent, sounds great and the writing is fantastic.
Best RPG that has come out since the days of old Infinity classics without a shadow of a doubt. -

Mar 26, 2015Type of game that i've been waiting for faaaaar too long.
Rich, immersive, reactive. An actual role-playing game (shocking!). What else needs to be said? -

Mar 27, 2015Brings back all the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale Memories, but clearly improved from a graphical and sound perspective - and it's huge, but atmospheric nevertheless!
The Story - as far as I can tell - seems somwhat darker, too, on par with the Witcher or Dragon Age: Origins. -
Mar 30, 2015Absolutely amazing. Fans of Baldur's Gate should be as giddy as I am about this one. It's basically Baldur's Gate 2015. Obsidian nailed it. Congrats for creating one of the best RPGs in the last 15 years!

-
Mar 26, 2015The 4 people that are reviewing Pillars of Eternity with 0s or 1s must be part of Bioware stuff that can't bear the envy of Obsidian making the best RPG in decades while they keep making elaborated dating-sims. Pillars of Eternity is a modern classic and everyone with a liking for true RPGs must play this jewel of a game. As simple as that.

Apr 5, 2015Obsidian made again superior RPG. They promised Baldurs gate like experience and that is exactly what this game is. This game is not 100% bug free, but i encountered nothing major. Must own to old school RPG fans.

Dec 18, 2015A great remake of Baldur's Gate 2, I can only agree on everything with other reviewers who gave 10/10. If you like top-down party-based RPGs with huge non-linear worlds, multitudes of spells/abilities and complex character building - buy this game.
-
Mar 26, 2015I had this fear that the game will suck, or It will be missing big on some areas... but thankfully i was wrong
Even the Graphics are good that i was sure it would like diablo II, so they can deliver all that game-play... -
Mar 26, 20159.5/10 very very solid so far, i got sucked in a minute played 7h strait, so much stuff to do, i love it, brings back so much good memories of old IE games - u cant but notice that
-
Mar 26, 2015today is a great day this game is awesome a brilliant oldschool rpg i'm glad to be a backer and helped to get this project done.
dont listen to the haters and call of duty kids rpg players will love this game. -
Mar 27, 2015You know how you loved things as a kid, and usually when you go back and revisit them you realize how they were not as great as you remembered?
Not the case here even slightly. Every fond memory of AD&D, BG, Icewind Dale, have been lived up to and then some.
Perfect immerse fantasy RPG. -

Mar 31, 2015At least. Game where players are treated with respect, not as idiots, like in most AAA games. Decent difficulty level, where scaling up is benefitial.
-
Mar 27, 2015This 10/10 is for the best writing and rpg-presentation of any game in history. Game-mechanics are better than dnd, but still need both refining and further development.

Apr 28, 2015Wow, wow and wow, what a great game! There is really nothing more to say. Play it - love it and play it again. :)
One of the games I can highly recommand - epic! -
Mar 28, 2015Any sane(or not) fan of the baldur's gate, planescape, IWD series of the past ought to give this one a try. It is deep, lengthy and has so much content that you can delve into this world for very many hours :). The presentation is polished and it is simply a great and fun RPG :)
-
Mar 26, 2015This is the game Infinity Engine fans have been waiting over a decade for. We can finally be happy to have a crpg focused on roleplaying rather than action and made for pc without the need to consider console limitations.
-
Apr 1, 2015They did go above and beyond with this game, there is still room for improvement, but it has already blown away all my expectations. The game is amazing. The thing I like the most are dialogue options, they can vary on your stats, culture, background, skills, reputation! It's amazing!
This is THE CRPG we have been waiting for! -
Apr 3, 2015I don't give a lot of tens - this is a ten. Classic isomorphic RPG with excellent writing, suitably tough combat, detailed storyline and the joyous immersion of Planescape:Torment, Baldur's Gate and the very best of the golden age of RPGs. If you ever enjoyed an Infinity Engine game, you will love this.
-
Mar 28, 2015This is a true return to form for Obsidian. It's everything I hoped for from an isometric CRPG in 2015. The writing is excellent, the combat is challenging and surprisingly deep (even on normal), and the presentation is lush and alluring. This is the best game I've played in years.
-
Mar 26, 2015This is what Baldur's Gate 3 would have been if that game was ever made. Same team, same type of isometric RPG. Epic writing, excellent story and game mechanics.
I don't understand why you wouldn't buy this game if you loved Baldur's Gate. -
Mar 27, 2015THIS IS SO AWESOME!!! i can't really describe my feelings...that's like orgasm for an old school player!! that is a must have game, you can.t miss it.

-
Mar 28, 2015So far so good, nothing crappy going on. Graphics are good. Combat system is nice. The game has an initial challenge. I really was worried about prepurchesing this game (from past experiences with other companies) haven't had any regrets so far. So far lovin it! (3hrs)
-
Mar 27, 2015Truly a successor of old school cRPGs. Incredibly beautiful locations, nice and stylish characters models and animations, captivating story with unexpected turns. All details in the game are done excactly as they should be done in a classic cRPG. By all means classic reborn and it's one of few true cRPGs in the recent times.

Mar 26, 2015A great, fun game that reminds me of the old days. There are a few things that need to be tweaked and polished but overall it's a solid release that has kept me occupied for hours already. There have been many failed "Baldurs Gate spiritual successors" - this one is the real deal.

-
Mar 27, 2015It is very surprising and interesting that Infinity Engine game mechanics in 1999 (Baldur's Gate series) can still make a game made 16 years later very enjoyable. Suffice to say if you've enjoyed playing Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale you'll be right at home. I'm glad I've contributed, wish I could have contributed more.
-
Apr 25, 2015Great..Everything, from the combat mechanics to the dialogues it is so inspired that doesn't only looks like BG3, but will feel like too. It is you playing a 15y old game updated in every aspect that is NOT a Hd remastered version. The lore it is monumental and pleasant during it's read-only unveiling. That's a job well done
-
Apr 21, 2015A great game with a great story and interesting sidequests with different options to choose from, real attention to detail, nice lore, good gameplay. Stick with it a little after the start and you'll get hooked if you're a fan of rpgs. I've put 90+ hours in this game and still playing, games like skyrim should learn from well written games like Pillars of Eternity.

Mar 28, 2015Awsome epic RPG, this works so well even with the old school graphics, played 20 hours and Im still starved for more, this is the kind of game u will binge, so take time from work and friends, get food and refreshment and enjoy. We need to suport game like this, we need more, I want more. Also thank you kickstarter supporters for making this possible.

-
Mar 26, 2015Well, all the people giving this 0s and 1s are just trying to bring the user score down because they want to see bloodborne higher or just to troll. First great game in years
-
Apr 7, 2015Already 100 hours in, simply a masterpiece. The only RPG in a long time whose limiting factor is the player's intelligence and ability to micro-manage. POTD difficulty is a god-send and makes the re-playability amazing.

-
Mar 28, 2015Best rpg for a loooong time, actually one of the few i can really call a RPG nowdays. 10/10 no doubt about it. It is really as close to BG as it gets, if you like this kind of game. Go play it now
-
Mar 29, 2015The best RPG since Planescape Torment and Baldurs Gate 2. Great experience and an awesome story.

Mar 30, 2015Not only is this a successor to other Infinity Engine games but it the most fun I've had playing one to date. Sitting at 15 hours to far and can't wait to play more.
Graphics are rich and atmospheric, Sound is wonderful and voiced beautifully, the Combat is brutal and requires a fine hand and then there is the story, words can not describe how rich the world is.

Mar 26, 2015Outstanding masterpiece... I have played it for only a few hours and it was more than enough to realize how much we have been lobotomized by the 'modern' rpgs. I will update this when I finish it, but for now I can't think of a better tribute to all the great classics we loved, while improving almost every aspect of these games.

Jul 7, 2015Pillars is a title that should make old-schoolers happy while still offering a solid core game, story, and a rich setting for new-schoolers.
-
May 25, 2015Pillars of Eternity stands on its own merits without resorting to nostalgia too much. Truly a CRPG masterpiece, the game offers old school, real-time strategic combat, and a vivid world to explore. Not only do you get an overall well-made experience, but also a challenge you haven't seen since the 90's.
-
Games Master UKMay 24, 2015A sprawling game in a familiar setting, and a clever tune-up for the cRPG. Just what the backers hoped for. [June 2015, p.74]
