Pillars of Eternity: The White March - Part 1

The White March is a great expansion - the content is high quality, offers a cool new atmosphere and creates a challenge even for the most experienced players. Pillars of Eternity was an excellent game and this expansions makes it even better. Of course people who weren't convinced by the basic game won't suddenly become fans but everyone else should definitely play The White March.

The White March - Part 1 is a great first expansion for Pillars of Eternity fans that have been in need of new content. A lengthy main quest, varied side tasks, and an enthralling narrative combine to make a worthwhile expansion for veteran players.

In White March we find a quality expansion with a great attention to detail but a bit limited by its nature of being an addition to the main campaign instead of a epilogue or continuation. The highlights would be the evolution of the combat system, enemy IA, and general improvements, making PoE a even better game.

The White March improves the game in some areas and offers an interesting story, but it may disappoint veteran players.

The main storyline could have been longer and more thrilling. Despite information that both parts are not going to be closely linked, the ending of Part 1 seems to be a prelude to something larger. [11/2015, p.46]

A lot of content for all the fans and an appreciated level up in terms of difficulty of the gameplay. It’s bad that the pathfinding problems weren’t fixed.

Albeit lacking in story, White March Part 1 offers a plethora of new content in items, combat and character customization.

A bit more emphasis on story or perhaps more variety in the combat situations would be welcome shots in the arm.

The fact that you have to reload an old save instead of continuing the story is a tad disappointing, but The White March Part 1 makes up for it with its excellent questing, the myriad new gameplay improvements and the 15 hour length campaign filled with new material.

The White March is a good first step in expanding the Pillars of Eternity universe. There are many combat opportunities and maybe less dialogue or exploration, but it still is an amazing old school rol game.

More of what you loved, but no earth-shattering experiences.

The White March focuses on the combat, and that might be good if that's what you loved about Pillars of Eternity. The narration is still sound, but you'll spend more time fighting than ever.
