Persona games usually consist of character stats development, time management, relationships, dialogues, combat and story. Strikers offers only half of the features. Thus, you will not get the satisfying feeling "its good my character is charming enough to choose this dialogue option". Lastly, there are no relationships. Nuff said, you got all these cute girls around, but you can't date even one.
So, the game offers you a middle of the road story and long dialogues with zero impact on plot development. The only thing that feels fun is combat. But as soon as you kill another boss, you get 10 minutes of dialogues and proceed to the next Jail. Unlike in original p5 where you got a week of free time to hang out with your girlfriends and have fun.

The combat is good, quite fun to have the action rpg combat style but its way too easy because of the ability to dodge. Once you master that one technique literally nothing in the game presents a challenge on any difficulty. Dodge can dodge everything in the game and auto counters if you can even kind of land it. Additionally because there is no restriction on using items (it stops combat to use an item), and no restriction on leaving the dungeon, full healing and just comng back in... its just way TOO EASY. Overall its not great enough combat to justify the existence of the whole game but would be awesome to see it utilizied in future Persona titles like P6. Hopefully they can utilize it for certain scenarios and events in dungeons.

The music is also banging... but most of it is just Persona 5's music, many of the new songs come off as quickly made video game music that doesn't have that same flair and doesn't mesh with the game llike most persona titles soundtracks.

Now for the bad; The story is appalling; the new characters is a bait and switch literally because subverting expectations (in and of itself) means you've succeeded at writing. Its kind of insulting seeing them just pretend nothing came of the first game. Cops know the Phantom thieves and are willing to pin any crime on them at the drop of the hat. Good to know we didn't fix anything in the justice system. Politicians and CEO's are as corrupt as ever, basically you made no impact on the world and nothing has changed... good starting point. The game starts by informing you the player that everyone (except the lovely ann) has basically forgotten about you and puts no effort into maintaining your friendship. All those confidants just immediately were like pish posh to that **** So now you get an AI friend to do everything cause plot would be hard to write so we'll just quickly exposition all that away with this AI can solve everything. If you know anything about how AI's work this **** will be laughable to you, its so like AI = GODs that its impossible to take it serious. The villain is also using AI's... AI's everywhere because; again, writing anything would be hard, so just add AI's and make them "Deus Ex" everything that would normally be plot.

I consdered Persona 5's writing a downgrade from 3 and 4 and this stuff is a far leap lower than that, Id be really shocked to hear any of the writers say they tried with the story, I like to imagine they'd be open to saying "yeah we kinda slapped it together to meet a deadline."

Now for the true reason Im giving it a dog**** score... My game has crashed roughly 20 times, for some reason loading screens have a roughly 10% chance to just turn the game off... this is extra frustrating because the game doesn't have any sort of autosave feature. There isn't any reason for it to use the old school JRPG "you have to save manually" model of saving. There aren't decisions to be made about how you spend your time... they just kept mechanics for a different type of game in this new game... could you imagine playing Dynasty warriors or Hyrule warriors and having to manually save constantly during missions and after missions and on menus, its just stupid. So i have to constantly save to not risk losing any progress made but consistently have to redo 5 to 10 minute bursts because I have to get from one save point to another. (Don't bother blaming my build, its literally the best of the best available, i cannot upgrade any piece of the build as no better hardware exists at the time of writing this.)

If you want to play it... go for it, but pick it up on console they seem to be more stable. The frequency and sporadicness of the crashing make me question any review that doesn't notate it, Not one person i know has played without a crash on PC and its so bad for some they've completely abandoned the game. I know someone playing on PS4 with 0 issue so thats a good platform as I hear it.

All in all, a good second helping for fans of Persona 5. Still, Strikers is a step down compared to the brilliance of the original game.

Persona 5 Strikers is a great Musou game, and even though for veterans of the series it might feel intimidating but it’s worth it for the plot. The game runs so well on PC but it does beg the question: why isn't Persona 5 on PC yet? It’s time to bring it to other consoles other then the PS4 so more players will get to experience the full story.

It is hard to say this is a great Persona title. The combat is fun and punchy, the story cool and on point, and there are some attractive design sensibilities. Unfortunately, the overall experience doesn't feel as cohesive as it could. At its core there is a great Persona story and experience but the move to the new systems and Omega Force's take on the series highlights why it is that Persona needs its turn-based combat and carefully considered character narratives. This is an excellent title in its own right and probably Omega Force's best work yet. It's just lacking that special something that would make it a stellar Persona title. It might have worked better as an expansion to the original Persona 5 as the story is awesome.
