    Persona 4 Golden is a phenomenal game, you can expect many hours of gameplay, going through its sensational history and difficult battles, however, to appreciate it is necessary to adore this type of genre, it requires a lot of patience to read and attention in the dialogues. Games allow the opportunity to grant you, the player, a unique sense of immersion and attachment to the events happening in it. Truly great games use this trait and utilize it to its fullest extent. It's no slouch in the storytelling department, and handles more introspective themes, unafraid of diving past it's bright and yellow motif to explore darker subjects if need be, but handles these elements with a gentle restraint, just enough to get its underlying message and thematic meaning across to you. On the other hand, if you analyse each scene in this game word-for-word in the same way you would for other forms of media, you could easily identify minor flaws all throughout the game. No, the true magic of this game lies in the way it makes you feel . This game, considered as whole, absolutely dwarfs the sum of its individual parts. In it, you had a chance to relate to all the main characters throughout the 80+ hours you spend, talking with them while basked in the dazzling daylight in the outdoor shopping district on a sunny day, or in the cool, subdued hours of the night, with a stream flowing lazily in the riverbank by your side. Through time, you saw their true, unvarnished self, pouring out their deepest concerns, big or small, to you, and through all that time, you saw them change, striving forward, from studying their best with you to achieve better grades, to truly defeating the shadows of their past and present, and rising out of it all with an evolved persona, someone ready to be true and to face the world as it is, as they truly are. You enjoyed vibrant, exciting outings filled with genuine happiness some days, and on others you somberly faced, head on, their most troubled issues, helping them to eventually rise above it all. I would be remiss to say that it was only the main characters that were so. In reality, the dreary, roughneck town of Inaba that you assumed it was when you first arrived on the train would slowly blossom into a place with more people to explore and relate to than what an entire 80+ hour story playthrough would allow. In my personal opinion, I would say the combat system isn't too demanding, when considering its parent franchise, and it can be rather fun. The music stands on a league of its own, and the game takes its soundtrack like it does its story, embodying its core concepts as musical themes, [I'll face myself] and [Reach out to the truth], allowing you to get attached to it through its different variations and renditions, and at the end, those musical themes evoke a sense of meaning just from listening to them on its own. All this is but a mere summary of how I felt and thought at the end. Simple numbers or ratings wouldn't properly convey my final, full opinion. I, as one player, went through and felt so much in this game, and in the end, I can only give you, the reader, a heartfelt recommendation to play it, and experience it all for yourself.… Expand

    Persona 4 golden is one of the best experience with the JRPGs that I play.

    A great game. It helped me greatly to hook up with turn-based Jrpg's. The gameplay is highly rewarding. The story isn't as immense as the other persona games but the slice-of-life approach and the dynamic characters make up for it.

    Tão bom quanto persona 5, achei até mais engraçado, só não tem tanta coisa quanto o 5 pois é de um console feito para não rodar coisas tão pesadas, entendo e apoio 100%

    When the true ending scroll came out, tears suddenly flowed. I felt like I was parting with my real friends. I found out then I was thinking of the characters in the game as real friends. Here are my friends, my family, and my life. I was able to live one more life in Persona 4.

    A great game with a great story.
    Advantages: great and interesting story, great characters, great atmosphere of a small town, magnificent music.
    Disadvantages: Dungeon crawling is repetitive and somewhat boring.

    Even though I had a "few kid detectives trying to solve mystery and adults just don't get it" vibe through whole gameplay, it's still masterpiece with deep emotional story and cool gameplay. I prefer P3's insane vibe, but when it comes to gameplay it's big improvement.

    Before playing Ys VIII this was my all time favorite game. The story of P4G is so captivating and the cast is one of the best I've ever seen. I would greatly recommend giving this a try.     The game itself has it all. A peaceful rural town that's suddenly hunted by a mysterious serial killer and a protagonist who discovers that there is an alternate world inside the TV's. An amazing cast of characters that genuinely feel like your real friends and about whom you'll shed a couple of tears when this game ends.

    Now concerning the length: it's long. Like really long but it never feels like it artificially stretches things out. The 80 - 100 hrs are a mix of going to school, developing your relationships with people (Social Links as they are called in-game), spending time with friends, working part-time jobs and clearing the dungeons.
    The dungeons itself have a specific theme to the characters they belong to, since the dungeons design is a product of the characters subconsciousness.

    The graphics: I mean sure they're outdated in 2023 and in 2008 there were games out there that looked better (FF 12 for example), but the game still looks good and seriously this game is too f'n good to be reduced to it's graphics and thus be missed out on.

    Let me emphasize this one more time: It's one of the best games ever made. It's shorter than Persona 5 (which itself is a content-colossus) but with approx 80 - 100 hrs it's still filled with content and an amazing plot with some of the most intriguing characters with whom you'll share fun and wholesome moments.

    I seriously can't stress it enough: buy this game, play it and experience greatness.    … Expand

    Personal 4 is one of the best games ever. I was super sad about the opening in golden though, I loved the original opening. This game is still a must for all gamers.

    Definitely one of the best JRPGS ever. But hey, it's Persona. That's what they do. B)

    Seriously though, the characters are some of the best. The dialogue is charming. Don't even get me started on the music! It's awesome. It has creepy moments, good laughs and feel goodness all in one. Check it out.

    A steal for $20. Comparable to 5 in every aspect other than graphics. Difficulty is much more akin to the mainline games, the story is funny a lot of the time and interesting. The game’s true ending requires very specific options to be picked which is annoying. Absolutely fantastic game for getting into the franchise with the recent release everywhere.

    Esse ano tive a felicidade de jogar seu anterior e posso dizer que apesar das diferenças obvias devido a diferença de tempo de produções de ambos seu anterior na fica devendo em nada.
    Nele controlamos Yu Narukami que passa a viver com seu Tio Dojima e sua filha Nanako na fictícia e pacata cidade de Inaba e lá começamos nosso primeiro dia de estudante onde vamos conhecer e conviver durante um ano com os habitantes dessa cidade, porém junto com o dia a dia há nessa um assassino que deixa os corpos de suas vitimas em situações estranhas sem deixar pistas.
    Os enredos dos jogos Persona normalmente segue esse estilo, um personagem de fora da cidade chega, lá ele conhece pessoas, se encontra diante de um desafio e assim a história se desenrola, porém esse desenrolar é onde está o brilho da série.
    Cada jogo trata de uma temática central onde ela é trabalhada através dos seus personagens e no andar da história.
    Persona 3 tem a temática morte, com predominância da cor azul e personagens mais sombrios e densos.
    Persona 5 trata da liberdade, com a predominância da cor vermelha e personagens carismáticos e fortes e principalmente rebeldes.
    Persona 4 trata da verdade no quesito de a busca pela verdade e de como somos realmente em nossos defeitos e qualidades, predominância da cor amarela e personagens que estão em processo de autodescoberta lidando com a descoberta de quem são realmente.
    Irei manter minha análise por aqui por que o que importa mesmo é o que está no profundo, o que está além, a mensagem do jogo abrange toda a sociedade, e como essa desvia o olhar para a verdade buscando o que está nas aparências, por incapacidade para lidar e aceitar o que realmente é, utilizando os mitos xintoístas como inspiração.
    Persona é aquele tipo de jogo que assim como Nier Automata, Final Fantasy, Okami e Journey que flertam com a filosofia, psicologia e principalmente com a Arte.
    Esses são jogos que quando finalizados você com certeza não é a mais pessoa de antes de apertar o Play!    … Expand

    Persona 4 Golden is a very fun Game with a very interesting story. I had much fun playing this game but sometimes I got frustrated because I was constantly underleveld and then I made the golden hand manipulation and because I had to play on my keyboard and not good with it did they keep despawning in my face or walk into me so that they flee. But overall a pretty good game.

    - Good amount of Replayablity through New Game +

    - Interesting gameplay separation between the main world and the other world
    - Soundtrack is full of BANGERS (ex: Heartbreak, Heartbeat; and Your Affection)
    - the cutscenes that they have in this game are very well animated

    Cons:
    - Audio Quality could've been better for the Japanese Voice Lines
    - At least to a monkey-brained person like me, The True Ending is a bit too hard to achieve without a guide
    - The Anime Tropes can get very annoying at times.
    - It isn't the most replayable due to the fact that it's a story-based game AND a mystery
    - you will be depressed for weeks after you completed the game

    Verdict: To preface this, I'd like to say that I'm not too big of a fan of RPGs, let alone JRPGs; but with that being said, this is one of my favorite games of all time. I'd completely recommend buying it and playing it blind.    … Expand

    I generally don't like RPGS so the high score should really be a great indication of just how good this game is. I got a ps4 just to play persona 5, so I'm thrilled to see this on steam when I haven't gotten around to playing the fifth one yet.

    The RPG segments are a bit too easy but the characters more than make up for it. Hilarious game, highly recommend.

Storytelling feels kinda weird, espicially if you are trying to get True ending(I reccomend to check guides so you can get it on your 1st try, on Steam you can find pretty solid guides without spoilers). it feels like they had so many ideas andAfter beating this game i am kinda speechleess.     The best part of the game is the Investigation Team and their chemistery inside of this group. I am actually surprised how many memorable events this guys had. Atlus executed that part so well so it really worth every penny I paid and time i invested in that game(~70 hours). And i more surprised that P5 characters dont have such deep development of their relationships inside of Phantom Thievs.

    Amazing game, only issue is that the anime cuutscenes (like the one that plays when you boot it) are borderline unwatchable due to intense visual and audio stuttering. Other than that I highly recommend as the cuutscenes are few and far between enough that it hasn't hindered the experience too much

I played Persona 5 on a whim not knowing what to expect or if I would even like it; but needless to say, I became a huge fan. Persona 4 Golden instantly hooked me from the get-go with its music, humor, story, friendships and relationships built, awesomely weird enemies andI’m not someone who tends to play a lot of JRPGs, so I’m still very new to the Shin Megami Tensei series.     Been a while, really. Been a while since I played a game this good. Been a while since I've last sunken 70 hrs into a game in a single fortnight.

    I have a lot of feelings about this game, all of them strong. I heard about Persona a bit here and there before, but since they were Playstation locked, and my PS4 is 2k miles away for me right now, I had to wait for its PC release. I    Been a while, really. Been a while since I played a game this good. Been a while since I've last sunken 70 hrs into a game in a single fortnight.

    I have a lot of feelings about this game, all of them strong. I heard about Persona a bit here and there before, but since they were Playstation locked, and my PS4 is 2k miles away for me right now, I had to wait for its PC release.

    I stumbled upon P4G on a steam sale, and now I wish I could've paid full price to support Atlus even more, make them bring P5R to PC faster.

    But enough gushing, let's get down to business:

    Pros:
    - THE WRITING. For the love of god this is how you write a mystery, how you write plot twists, how you write characters, how you write chemistry and humor. The characters are high-schoolers but they could have easily been adults without changing much of the themes handled. Mature, but not without their pinch of craziness because the game was made by people who know how to balance things out.
    The end of the game really felt like saying goodbye to a group of my own friends. Bravo.
    - Visuals. Now, this is a decade-old game. Technical mastery is not something I expected. But even then, the updated Inaba does the job. The dungeons are innovative in their art styles, the interface is also super stylized.
    - Personas. They're the core of the dungeon side of gameplay, and they're a fantastic core. They allow for such flexibility of builds, for some very creative uses of their skills, and they're cool. Izanagi FTW.
    -THE MUSIC. I'm a sucker for games that have a good soundtrack, and this one blows a lot of other soundtracks out of the water. You definitely feel the late 2000s-early 2010s vibe, and that's awesome. The max s link music makes me shiver, the dungeon battle osts get my blood pumping, Never More makes me choke on my own tears.
    And how could I not mention the opening? Catchy, rhythmic, perfect... Never skipped it once.
    - The slice of life aspect of the game is also perfectly mastered. The s links are well-thought-out, advance naturally, you can get a part-time job, you have to actually remember your courses to ace your exams... For 70 hrs, I was back in high school.
    - Choices that matter. Sometimes games offer choices, mostly they're just illusions (ain't that right, Horizon: Zero Dawn? Joking I still like you). Here, a bad choice can lead you to a bad ending. Simple. And good.

    Cons: Yes, there are a few.
    - While I loved the dungeons, their design sometimes felt lacking in both clarity and complexity if that makes sense.
    - For god's sake, implement an autosave feature. And that's because...
    - ...I crashed a few times after 1.5 hrs crawling through a dungeon. Having to redo an entire dungeon I *just* almost cleared because I forgot to exit and save (or just didn't have the time to do it) is not a good experience.

    9.5/10 GG EZ.
    One of my favorite games ever, and I'm probably about to plunge back in with a NG+ in order to fuse you-know-who as soon as I can.

    Best JRPG I ever played and I'm excited to play P5R Day One whenever it finally graces PC with its presence.

    All of the characters personalities are fleshed out and when you interact with them you keep asking yourself why my friend's are so boring and wish I was in the game's group.
    Unfortunately this game is pretty old which will mean that the graphics are of course outdated as ****.
    The gameplay is an old style dungeon crawler and this is the one thing that i DESPISED about this game.It has the same issue as Caligula effect and that is that its annoying , boring and a total time waster of your time.
    The enemy designs are pretty cool and creative but unfortunately by the end of the game I was either escaping the encounters or trying to dodge them as much as possible due to the fact that it takes too long to fight some of them and the loading screen and attack animations can't be skipped and that just adds more time being wasted on dungeons that are so convoluted and hard to navigate at that the entire game becomes a long ass chore. I literally had to make up plans on my calendar of when I will have enough time to do a dungeon since it takes around 1-2 hours depending entirely if you get lucky and find the next floor door fast.You can't pause inside dungeons which means that one **** up can ruin your entire run and I just couldn't be bothered to waste more time running around like a jackass.
    The game's story and characters are great and it made me fall in love with the entire Persona franchise but unfortunately the gameplay is tedious and boring as hell.
    I will also suggest watching both Persona 4 and Persona 4 Golden the animation since there are a lot of cool things added that you can't find in the game.    … Expand

The soundtrack of the game is an excellent master's work, and the gameplay is still as good as it is today. The various life of high school and the comfortable rural town makes the life feels more real.     Pretty slow at the start. At around 12 hr mark it started to become fun. Lots of replay value.

    Awesome game, I played this one after 5 and I definitely missed certain improvements 5 had. But this one is nearly as good. The dungeons are super simple compared to p5. But the story is great and the characters are amazing. I loved all of the main cast in this game even more than 5s cast. However the optional side characters were lacking compared to 5s, still good characters though.

I still had a lot of fun exploring the dungeons and actually appreciated how predictable they became.

    The story and especially character development is what makes this game such a work of art. The main detective story itself is really well done - it was suspenseful and definitely gives the player a lot of incentive to keep playing and finding out what is really going on with all the killings in town. There is also a huge theme of city life vs. rural life going on, and the developers of the game did such a masterful job of depicting the importance of relationships and growth of heart that is much more possible in a small knit community as opposed to a metropolis.

    I don't know if I can describe how much I enjoyed the characters and their interactions, but I'll try. This is my first Persona game, and the inter-relatedness of the social links, personas, and combat are such a good metaphor for how things are in actual life. The game really operates on the idea that we become stronger and better equipped to handle the dangers of life by strengthening our relationship with our friends and 'family', however it is defined. There is certainly strength in dealing with an issue alone, but it's almost never a sustainable endeavor. All of the characters that you develop social links with share intentions, secrets, plans, vulnerabilities, and their sense of personhood with you throughout the playthrough. Their growth and realizations throughout the game are unbelievably rich and deep. The amazing thing is that almost all of the dialogue is moving and convincing. I almost never felt that something that was expressed by the characters was lame or half-baked. I also have to give the developers credit for certain scattered moments of humor throughout the game. Some of the scenes involving food in this game are so hilarious.

    The music in this game is so good and definitely helps to hammer home the emotional impact of certain scenes. 'Reach Out To The Truth' - battle theme is such a classic, as well as many of the other tracks.

    There are a few things that I really didn't like about the game that kept it from being a 10/10 for me. First off, I feel like the game is unnecessarily hard, even on normal. There were a lot of times, especially early on, where I was going through the dungeon and got one-shotted by normal enemies. In this game, if your main character dies, it's over. Thankfully you can start over from the floor of the dungeon you're on, but it still can knock out a lot of progress. One boss in particular in the middle of the game was so infuriating that I had to lower the difficulty to beat it. I almost stopped playing the game because of this. Towards the latter half of the game, I did a better job of grinding so it was much easier, but I still felt this was a weakness.

    My second gripe with the game is its structure towards the end. There are multiple endings you can get, and this is definitely a game where your choices have SEVERE consequences. I guess choices in games are good, but I like games that are generally linear and structured so that you can easily reach the end. I made a mistake at some point and got one of the 'bad' endings, which left me annoyed. I did try again after doing some research and got the ending I wanted (it was worth the effort), but I really don't like that this game allows for game-breaking choices.

    Thirdly, I feel like the game also drags on for a bit longer than it needs to be. It's nothing too crazy but I feel like a portion of the game was a little unnecessary.

    All in all, i highly recommend Persona 4 Golden. It's definitely not just a great JRPG, but an experience that'll trigger feelings of nostalgia and reflection on the player's end for sure.    … Expand

    By far P4G is my favorite SMT game, if not my favorite game of all time.
    The characters are just so likable and well written, this game makes me feel like I'm back in high school with my friends again.     This masterpiece is more like an AVG than traditional role playing game. With luxurious voice casting and amazing story supported by psychological and philosophical metaphors, it definitely provides wonderful experience.

    I got a little bit turned off at first when I saw the graphics, but since I loved Persona 5 so much, I just didn't give a F about the graphics and played it. And the reward for that was worthy.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So while the graphics haven't aged well, the story, characters, the overall tone of the game and the vibes have not changed at all. I bought this on the vita when it came out and again on PC since my poor Vita died (broke).

    The story follows the protagonist and his friends who dive into the rumored midnight channel, where victims who appear on the midnight channel are murdered when they appear. That's the basic as to what I can give about the story without spoilers, but believe me, the story has some interesting twist and turns in the plot and its characters depth.

    Game-play wise, you play as a high school student where you take part in classes and activities which further your "stats" -including your courage, knowledge, diligence, understanding and expression - which contribute to dialogue options when you interact with others. There's also the social link aspect where you hang out with a particular character and unlock better fusions when fusing personas as well as learning about that characters struggles and how they grow as you hang out with them.

    The game is most rewarding when you replay it on New Game + since some Social Links require you to have a certain status within your stats, but spending another 60 + hours on New Game + is very rewarding when you unlock better fusions and abilities.

    I give this game a 9/10. The graphics haven't aged well, but the story is still the same and the character are just as fun and interesting as ever.    … Expand

    I have no idea why this version has a lower critic score than the vita version when this one is the same game but has much better graphics and better user options and will have mods available. The only bad parts are things like story parts that didn’t age well.

    Great port of a great game, maybe has some bugs but you can fix that playing in full screen.. the thing is the great story thatis actually good written not like some big AAA games of nowadays were you only expect it to be good with some propaganda and good graphics.. i hope persona 5 royal orpersona 3 fes comes to steam someday

    As this is new to Steam, and to a majority of people who never had a PS Vita, it should be known that Persona 4 Golden is, indeed, an old game, with dated graphics. It's a little better than what Persona 3 had, which isn't exactly saying much, but it's enough to make it a much better experience. The theme of the game can be described, without spoiling anything, as a "Scooby Doo movie in the boonies."

    Persona games always follow a certain theme throughout the game; whether it be a genre of music, a colour scheme, or the ways in which the characters in the game develop, they often stick out because of just how well they execute this. Persona 4 Golden is no exception.

    From characters who make you nostalgically dream of times which were better, comfier, and much more wholesome, to the new music added in the Golden remake which soothes your heart. The characters in Persona 4 Golden all have great depth to them (with a single exception; no spoilers, won't mention), and the way in which they develop, act, and speak to not only the main character, but also to the person behind the screen, invoked, at least for me, strong feelings of empathy, of understanding, and of acceptance.

    P4G exemplified near tremendously how a game should treat social issues. My only gripe would be that Yosuke is a little bit of a homophobe; that could very easily be justified as "Teenagers being none the wiser", or "being edgy with your jokes", but it was still a bit odd, and out of place. Aside from that, however, everything pinned the nail on the head. Truth in media, women's issues in the workplace, toxic masculinity (I hate the word as it's almost always misused, but this game tackled the genuine thing, and realized it as an issue that men should be helped through, not scrutinized and mocked for), and last but not least, the power of friendship. Sorry, last point is a bit of a joke, but it's also quite an important plot device in practically every recent Persona game, but in Persona 4, it's easily the most prevalent.

    Now, a quick summary for every aspect of this game:

    Art design: 7/10. Although outdated in modern times, it's still not half bad at all. Persona designs are, as always, very interesting, but it's in the characters where the art excels. It's hard to explain it without spoiling a few characters, so I'll refrain from doing such.

    Sound design: 10/10. I'm no big fan of giving out scores of 10, but Persona's music almost always deserves it, and as I've mentioned in regards to others aspects of this game already, Persona 4 Golden is no exception. The introduction of the song "Snowflakes" really sets this rating in stone for me, as that song manages to invoke the strongest feeling of nostalgia and warmth within me than any story or media has ever accomplished yet, save for maybe Undertale.

    Story design: 8/10. I've always thought that Persona 4 was a bit lacking in the story department, but putting my biased goggles aside from my experience playing Persona 3 and Persona 5, the story in this game is still superb. It is only in the shadow of those two games which the story of Persona 4 seems a bit worse, but I often find it unjustly being referred to as a bad story; by no means is it such. Of course, though; won't spoil. Unfortunately, I cannot sing its praises much without doing so. I can safely say, however, that it succeeded in gripping my heart throughout my playthrough, and had me eagerly playing the game throughout its entirety. There was scarcely a moment in the game in which I felt I should take a break; for better, or for worse, that's up to you to decide.

    Character design: 9/10. Persona 4 excels in exactly this department; it's characters are exceptional when compared to the other Persona games, and even when compared to many other games in the modern gaming landscape. The S-Links in Persona games always show to the player the struggles which the main cast faces outside of their forages into the different world. In Persona 4, their struggles with who they are, what they wish to become, what they mean to others, and what others mean to them; suffice it to say that I have never felt more able to relate to video game characters than I could for the characters here. Their design is full of love and warmth, brimming with that pervasive sense of nostalgia which is ever-present throughout this game, and yet again, for better or for worse, you'll likely leave this game desiring such personal relationships as the characters in this game have with one another.

    Overall: 9/10. The wear of this game hasn't worn out just how stellar it is to experience, and I urge everyone give it a chance when they can.    … Expand

    An excellent JRPG with a great story, wonderful characters with interesting developments and overal good gameplay. The only reason why I don't give it a ten is because the story drags on a bit too long for my taste.
    Still, if you love JRPGs, get this game.

When everything was said and done, I found myself wishing for a part 2 a later years, where my PC stayed friends with the cast, and married his sweetheart Naoto Shirogane.

    The gameplay was good enough to stay interesting, enemy weaknesses added a tactical element to gampley, but like most JRPGs the combat got a little repetitive. Dungeons were similar to old school rpg dungeons, like the original Elder Scrolls, and were of a rather dated design, with only two really standing out with any sort of uniqueness. I'd say that the dungeons were the down side. Being someone who grew up with the low-poly era of gaming e.g. FF7, Metal Gear Solid 1--the graphics didn't bother me that much, the models are lower end PS2 looking graphics, but there is still a nice anime art style that gives the characters a lot more life. Also ATLUS did put work into the back grounds, to make them HD.

    Really this is a game with a lot of heart, I recommend it even to people who don't really like JRPGs as this one has much more character driven agency--similar to Mass Effect, which also means that there is a lot of value coming from replayability.

    In a screwed up world, where we are getting game like The Last of Us 2, which are wholly nihilistic, with violence only included to make pretentious 'suffering porn', this older game shows us that you can have a darker themed game with a lot of light in it. With the sales and response to this game on Steam, I think ATLUS should think about bringing the other titles to the PC as well. I think this game is a solid 9/10.    … Expand

    As for the port, this is an excellent port, but there were problems with the rollers at the start, but they have already been fixed.
    Of course this is not a remake of the fifth engine, but still good.
    I hope that if part 3 is released on the PC, it will be a version with PSP, but with a redesigned open world and the answeh epilogue. I’ll be a little frustrated if they just portort the answer, having lost a lot of the content of the portable version and team management.    … Expand

This is the persona 4 people love, but with a nice little graphics polish and ported to PC so it is no longer trapped on discontinued systems. The only complaint is the animated cutscenes really needed work - theyForget Royal remaking a still new game, cramming in a bunch of stupid new characters, and slapping it on the PS4 the original is already on, THIS is the kind of remake we want!     Maravellous story and characters. The rock-themed and instrumental music work wonders too. The graphics aren't great for modern standards, but given it was a port they work well enough. The combat is great, classic turn-based no major problems, but the dungeons for the shadow "people" are repetitive.

    On balance, P4G is one of the best JRPGs out there and is a must play.

    I absolutely love this game and the social aspects. I played Persona 3 FES before, but never finished it. So I decided to start a new game on P4G while I wait for P3P to get ported.

    The only thing that really bothers me is the motion blur. It cannot be turned off unless you install a mod. It’s not the worst thing ever since it’s easy to install mods on PC, but I think it’s silly this    I absolutely love this game and the social aspects. The cast is cliche at first but as the story progresses and you go through their social links, you find out so much about them and connect with them. I love most of the characters and even though there was no gameplay consequence to romancing all the girls, I still felt guilty about it because I loved the characters so much. The combat is satisfying and methodical, all out attacks feel awesome (hurts to say no but trust me, it is necessary sometimes), and it feels awesome for getting advantage battles (after getting the hang of the controls).… Expand

Next to this, the social sim mechanics kept the game perfectly enjoyable. I absolutely love all the characters, their interactions with the MC, and their character developments. I played the English dub version and the voice acting was very well done. Lastly, I absolutely loved the soundtrack. None of the other games made me feel so much with its music. Extremely impressive how well the music fits the mood. The hard rock instrumental during fights, the jazzy smooth music at times, everything was on point.
    The only con I can give is the side content. I love long games with lots of side content. However, P4G's side missions were very stale and boring. Still, this did not create any problems for me because the rest of the game was immaculate and had a very long playtime.     Visuals - 7.5/10 - (Good)
    Some aspects such as models, animation, and some textures make it quite clear that P4 is a PS2 game originally. But the team at Atlus managed to bring the game into HD quite well by making everything look quite sharp and clean. And considering the game is not demanding at all, playing it in 4k is quite easy and the best way to experience it.
    Sadly the game doesn't offer support for 21:9 monitors which sometimes can break the quite immersive and absorbing atmosphere of the game.

    Gameplay - 8.5/10 - (Very Good)
    The game can be summarized as the fusion of J-RPG and Life Sim. The game has it own calendar which is followed day by day and with certain events set to happen on certain days of the calendar, and when playing in between these predetermined events you can take part in many different activities which consist of working on your own character and leveling up your traits, your relationship with your friends and completing side quests which reward you with items.
    When it comes to the combat system, the game follows the same way a classic J-RPG's would, with certain twists to make it a bit more unique, such as elements that have their own strengths and weaknesses. The combat only happens in areas which would be this game system of dungeons, and it works as a building with many floors which you traverse to find the stairs to the next level and throughout all levels you can find enemies to battle and items to take. Everything is easy to understand and flows quite well.
    At times the game can get a bit grindy and annoying in the dungeons so having the option to go out of dungeons and complete activities with your friends is quite welcome and helps balance the flow of the game.

    Story - 9/10 - (Great)
    Persona 4 story is a very good one, full of twists and turns, might not be the most original one but is very well told and keep the player interested throughout the game. The main story aside, the other narrative that makes persona 4 great are the characters you interact with on your journey which are called "social links", there are 22 in total, and participating in them will let you know more about the characters and form bonds with those people. The only complaint to make about the story is not having a menu with info about all the characters you meet and are involved with the main quest, since you meet so many people in the game, names start to feel hazy and forgotten by the end of the story.    … Expand

NPCs are pointless; some of them give you advice, but they can't interact in some way. Besides this, the idea of the game is fantastic, the features for the personas are attractive, usable, multifunctional, and just great. I loved the begging of thepersona 4 golden has characteristics of being a good game, but not a great one. Not because of the graphics, but you can do nothing most days. The life-sim section kept me going because it connects to the gameplay, allowing you to make stronger personas when your bond enhances and you get to experience really meaningful personal stories related to each character. The stories of each individual are all really good, but the overarching murder mystery in the small town of Inaba keeps you hooked from start to finish. Through the genius calendar system, the plot progresses at around a month per dungeon finishing in a full year. This game tackles various different themes because of it's structure, such as Kanji's struggles with his masculinity or Naoto's struggles with gender inequality in the workplace. The Investigation Team is written so masterfully with every member feeling so close and authentic, and oh man Teddie's arc was something you kind of see coming but is played out so well. Watching the anime doesn't allow you to fully grasp the smaller details of the plot that makes the game so perfect, and oh my god dude; the soundtrack. The soundtrack is PERFECT. They went with a lot of vocal tracks that are all bops, with my favorite being the boss theme for Marie. There is SO SO MUCH more I want to say about this game but it's better if you just play it yourself. The story made me cry on at least 3 occasions and it's coming to Xbox soon and it's on PC right now so if you make the decision in your life to watch a TV show with no substance, it's pretty much the same investment as a couple seasons of a TV show but with more thinking.     Amazing cast, really loved the interactions between everyone. The graphics aren't anything to write home about but it gets the job done. The music, while repetitive, is pretty good on its own. The dungeons are a big letdown with how repetitive it gets but it is serviceable. The overall plot is good enough to keep you wanting more.

    P4G fixes almost every issue I had with P4, and every issue stems from being compared to P5. They fixed the awful shuffle time minigame and made it possible to actually start battles with an advantage. It also fixed the weirdness where shadows would get an advantage despite you clearly whacking them. There's also a handful of QoL improvements that got carried to P5, such as seeing how many chapters are in a book and being able to choose inherited skills when doing a fusion.

    Now for the negative comparisons. These are all subjective. I don't think the story is as good as P5's, though it's not bad by any means. I also think the cast overall is weaker. For every good character like Kanji, Ryotaro, Adachi, and the Strength duo, you get a Yosuke, Yukiko, Tower, Sun duo, etc. The art style is also far inferior. The soundtrack is also not as good, but like the story, is still good. The biggest complaint I have about P4/P4G is the randomly generated dungeons. They completely lack the charm of P5/P5R's static dungeons.    … Expand

    Cons:
    Procedurally generated dungeons become tedious the fourth or fifth time, easily the weakest parts of the game
    -Teddie is **** Lol. It is overused as a comedic character, although it is still enjoyable due to the funny nature of the situations...
    -Some japanese cliches (like a pop idol falling in love with you for example) , I'm not a big fan of that personally
    -The start is very traditional, the game takes some time before gaining strength.

    Recommended 8/10

    Actual lessons in japanese mythology would have been interesting and relevant rather than knowing that Jack'o lanterns were made of turnips or the medical name for brainfreeze.
    You can see the twist coming but you don't fully get how it's gonna turn out and that's great.
    I imagine the game could be extremely frustrating if playing blind as **** up the good/gooder endings seems very easy.
    The original ending hits hard with its 4th wall breaking and the epilogue added by Golden just diminishes the impact of it.

    Very time consuming : 70+ hours WITH a guide (Do NOT play this game without one)
    Somewhat worthwile time investment.

    CONS:
    Dungeons - if you're coming from P5, you will be disappointed by the P4 dungeons. It's pretty much just hallways, doors, and chests. And also shadows. Every consecutive dungeon is a reskin of the last.
    Graphics - P4G came out 4 years after P4 which was released in 2008. And we're just now getting a PC port in 2020. So yes, the graphics are quite dated.
    Port - Although i personally didn't experience any major issues with the port, I know that a lot of people did so it's necessary to mention this.

    Overall, P4G is an all-around enjoyable JRPG with a lot to offer even in 2020.    … Expand

I may not have exactly the most powerful pc ever or anything but the anime cutscenes suffer from ridiculous stuttering running at about 0.5 fps which is just shocking for an upres of a vita game! The cutscenes are few and far between, being most common near the start and end of the game, but if this may shatter your immersion or be a general deal breaker I wont blame you for trying to find a different version of this game to play, even if this is by far the most readily available.… Expand

The mysterious and detective-like story is so fun to unravel with the all the loveable characters. The dialogue is quite funny and its really like watching a really good anime to be honest. However, some of the social links do miss the mark for me as some were not really that interesting to me, but I am comparing it to P5 where all the social links are really to go through maybe except for one.

    The UI and the graphics are outdated, sure, at the end of the day the PC version was just a port. But if you stick through it and just enjoy the story the graphics become more of an after-thought. AND THE MUSIC IS AMAZING! you might find yourself either singing along or tapping some part of your body to the beat or even both.

    Overall, I do recommend this JRPG, I can see why people find Persona 4 so iconic in the genre.    … Expand

    Persona 4 Golden was largely considered one of the PlayStation Vita’s must-play titles and for good reason. Inaba’s small-town feel, the fantastic cast, incredibly personable dialogue, excellent audio, and strong gameplay combine to make the game a superb all-around experience. Though there are no distinct advantages of playing this version over the Vita one, its release on PC should be rightfully celebrated for giving a whole new set of RPGamers the chance to play a game that resonates just as strongly now as it first did.
