Perimeter: Emperor’s Testament will take a little time to get used to, from the controls, terraforming landscapes, and creating a strong offence or defense. Once you do get the hang of all that this game has to offer you will find it highly enjoyable.
-
Pelit (Finland)Combines a far-out sci-fi plot with some new RTS elements. The result is a nice game, but nothing more. [Dec 2006, p.82]
-
It doesn't feature the same level of changes of most expansion packs, but the strategic elements are sound and the campaign is long enough to justify the paltry $20US price tag.
-
Emperor’s Testament needs more variety. Even the surprise plot twist in the game doesn’t enable Emperor’s Testament to break the formula.
-
The concepts of energy management, unit morphing and land leveling definitely set Emperor's Testament apart from the rest of the RTS titles on the market. When you consider the twenty-dollar price tag, it's hard to pass this one up.
-
PC Gamer UKTerraforming insanity imbued with a clunky wonder. [Dec 2006, p.97]
-
Emperor's Testament offers plenty of new missions to keep you busy, although the overall experience is practically identical to that of its predecessor.
-
It’s more of the same thing. If you just can’t get enough of Perimeter, then here’s some more of it to feed your hunger. If you’re looking for an update to the gameplay, units, or features, you should wait to see if a Perimeter 2 is released sometime down the road.
-
PC Zone UKThe admirably innovative gameplay still feels like it's from Mars. [Feb 2007, p.80]
-
An expansion pack that offers nothing new or innovative to the quirky and innovative original. A decent pick for those who just couldn’t get enough of Perimeter, but those unfamiliar with the original might be in for more than they can handle.
-
BoomtownWith that first release having had such a limited audience, there’s no doubt that what is on offer here will seem fresh and innovative to some of those who pick up what is a decent and lengthy expansion.
-
PC GamerAnother beef: no tutorial levels, which would have been a good idea, given the cryptic story. [Holiday 2006, p.78]
-
Unique and fresh strategic approach, but it lacks a compelling creamy plot centre that would make Perimeter an instant classic.
-
Computer Games MagazineThe game certainly looks interesting in pictures, and the soundtrack is psychedelically soothing. All it's missing is entertaining play. [Dec. 2006, p.74]
-
The bottom line is Perimeter: Emperor's Testament is a flawed diamond.
