Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 The new mechanics are somewhat interesting, but ultimately make it a less satisfying experience than Championship Edition DX. Also, making ghost eating a cutscene seriously breaks the flow of the game. [Nov 2016]

Championship Edition DX+ was brilliant, because it was deep enough to satisfy hardcore high score chasers, but also offered straightforward fun even to casual gamers. Championship Edition 2 is so fast a lot of people will be overwhelmed by it. [12/2016, p.46]

Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 shines in all the same ways as Pac-Man Championship Edition, just with a light that's a little duller. Levels are still fun, they're just not as fun. The action still has a funky, flow-y groove, just not as funky or flow-y.

There’s a solid idea at the core of the game, one that’s endearing and compelling despite some major changes to the formula. But nothing backs up that idea. It’s just that—an idea, and not much else, though the familiar Pac-Man gameplay still holds up.

Pac-Man never really changes his ways, but Championship Edition 2 proves that a three-and-a-half decade old videogame star can still pull a crowd. This is a smart set of takes on what may genuinely be a timeless mechanical formula.

Championship Edition 2's drastic changes to the classic Pac-Man feels like a misstep. You can touch the ghosts without dying and the speed and danger of the original are missing because of this.

If someone like me (who reveres the Pac-Man Championship Edition franchise) is struggling to figure out where the leaderboards are and which mode I should compete in, then I don’t think this game has a chance of winning over new players. The numerous modes and levels are a fun distraction — but that’s part of the problem: they’re a distraction from what Bandai Namco should’ve made a much more rewarding asynchronous competitive mode.

It’s just a shame that, for a game whose core theme remains non-stop pursuit, Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 proves so stubbornly reluctant to cut to the chase.

This Pac-Man can be a good entertainment for a few hours, but not more.

Compared to the all-time classic Pac-Man, this game has a fast-paced gameplay, a few tweaks in the behavior of the ghosts and a "jump back to start point" feature. With the electro music in the background, the game is quite dynamic. Trying to hit the S score in the challenge mode can be fun for a while.

Beyond that there is not much to look for. 17 of the 18 achievements can be unlocked within a few hours, and the last achievement is an everlasting farm of adventure missions that artificially boosts the otherwise short play time of the game. As described above, the gameplay is limited to the strict minimum, only relying on the gradual increase of the rhythm to make it harder and harder to avoid ghosts, or eat the ghost trains. So beyond these few hours it obviously becomes quite repetitive.

Enjoy it as the little funny game this is, but don't hope for more.
