Worldslayer offers what Outriders fans expect from an expansion: more of the familiar in a polished state.

Ask yourself this: did you play Outriders simply for its campaign and then drop it, or did you push yourself through its expeditions, going as far as you could go? For those in the former camp, Worldslayer probably isn’t for you. At least not at full price, anyway. You’ll blast through the campaign in 10 hours or less and then be left twiddling your thumbs. For those enamoured with Outriders‘ unique brand of high-octane combat seeking to max out their characters and optimise their builds, however, Worldslayer should be considered a must-have.

Outriders Wordslayer is definitely the expansion that fans of Square Enix's Looter-Shooter have been waiting for. Without ever revolutionizing either the game or the genre, this DLC is extremely generous in content and offers enough new features to encourage players to return to the planet Enoch. People Can Fly refines its title in its own way and spices up a desired nervous and gratifying adventure.

Outriders Worldslayer follows in the same vein of Outriders, quite literally: one year later, both its strengths (tight gameplay, loot management) and flaws (poor enemy variety, lackluster boss design, weak plot) have stayed exactly the same. Very likely you’ll enjoy this expansion if you liked the base game, but if you didn’t this won’t make you change your mind.

Fans of Outriders should be happy with Wordslayer, as it’s still a very enjoyable shooter and the expansion’s story, while silly, does its job of motivating you to push forward. It’s a shame that it ends so quickly and the endgame – while slightly improved over the base game – probably won’t engage you for very long.

It is, however, still Outriders. Worldslayer improves a strong shooter that already had some cool and weird ideas, enhancing its challenge and bringing a lot of small improvements that make it more enjoyable to play overall. But the expansion doesn't add any especially new ideas, it just cleans up and adds to what's already there. These are a series of incremental improvements and additions that make a weird, chaotic shooter worth revisiting a year after its release--just don't expect anything world-shaking.

For all its inconsistency, Outsiders still boasts some of the most intense and exciting PvE shooting around - just sometimes it’s you in a puddle on the floor instead of the waves of nameless goons. It’s silly and nerdy and dark and takes no prisoners as it violently demands your attention from start to finish.

Some diverse build options. Great additions to the loot system from the base game. The Trial of Taya Gratar has a lot of potential to grow. The gunplay is top notch just like the base game.

    Bad-
Terrible story. The story makes no sense and really does not add much to the game. Literally skip the story and if you play do it for the gameplay.

    Thoughts-
Outriders: Worldslayer may have one of the most boring campaigns out of any other loot-centric game out there, but ultimately, it doesn’t matter. For better or for worse, Outriders: Worldslayer ultimately provides players with more Outriders. More of the boring story full of potential, more terribly-written dialogue, but also, more great systems to play around with, more possibilities for interesting builds and big damage numbers. And most importantly of all, more loot! Outriders: Worldslayer is the true pinnacle of the adage: skip the story, play the game. And for some people, that’s more than enough.
