This game may be beautiful, but it is also deadly.

An artistic masterclass on virtually every level—it begins perfectly, it ends perfectly, and it delivers a bounty of beautiful, creative platformer goodness in between. It is, perhaps, 2015's first inevitable lock for year-end top ten lists.

Gorgeous art direction, simple but touching story and layers and layers of lovely majestic sound effects, coupled with a kick-ass soundtrack, great old-school platform mechanics.

Ori and the Blind Forest embodies the best of what platformers have learned in recent years. There was a connection between art, technology, great level design and nearly perfect entertainment in the game.
  5. Ori and the Blind Forest, one of the best platform games ever. It looks absolutely amazing and the environments in the game very detailed. Every platform gamer must have this game.

Despite the high level of difficulty, Ori and the Blind Forest is one of the best of its kind. Considering the excellent presentation and the lovable fairy tale atmosphere, it is certain that the experience will be firmly imprinted in your memory.

Challenging and gorgeous, Ori is a classic platforming genre modernized and done strikingly well. Use a controller and save often.

As far as Metroidvania games go, Ori's brilliant visuals, stunning soundtrack and spot-on controls are unparalleled. An amazing achievement.
  10. At first, Ori looks like a very easy game. But that’s a deception: the further you go into the forest, the louder cracking of your thumbs will become. Our condolences go to anyone who will try to beat Ori on keyboard+mouse combo instead of gamepad. [May 2015, p.71]

If you’d asked me back in the Super Nintendo days what video games would look like in the future, I imagine that I might have pictured something just like [Ori]. That is to say, something with the visual resonance of a masterfully animated film.

Playing Ori and the Blind Forest is akin to having a piano lesson — it is fun only when you press exactly the right keys. Get off the mark for just a split second, and the entrancing melody is gone, the tempo is ruined, and all you can hear is the sound of your fingers frantically tapping the keys.

As impressive as all of that is, what we have here is a side-scrolling game that lacks the fun and imagination of Rayman or Shovel Knight, and is thoroughly tiresome at various points. The combat is rather boring - just punch a button and fire random homing-missiles. Basically if you look torturous levels of platforming difficulty, and a ridiculous system of saving your progress, then this might be for you. The visuals though are awesome! Full Review »

The first noticeable thing is that it's artistically beautiful, probably the best looking 2D game I've ever seen; the art reminds a bit of Miyazaki's style and it's wonderfully animated. Sometimes the levels can be a little too busy graphically and make it hard to see enemies and their shots, but it's a minor flaw.
The gameplay mechanics are pretty good. The controls (although sadly not redefinable) are solid and precise, which is extremely important in Ori, since the trial & error nature of the game: It can be very challenging and can sometimes be frustrating, so I don't think it's a game for everyone.
I've seen some pointing out how it's short, but I don't agree, it's long enough and ends right before becoming stale.

-2 points for not having redefinable keybinds
-2 points for being on steam only
