The next sequel to Orcs Must Die! offers brisk, fun gameplay and plenty of room for experimentation and strategy. Unfortunately, it requires a lot of patience.

Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap is the latest entry in Robot Entertainment’s beloved series and introduces a compelling roguelite formula, which requires a significant investment of time and dedication to be mastered with the aim to bring the experience to higher levels.

Best enjoyed in co-op, Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap is a seriously satifsying tower defence game about destroying as many orcs as you can. With a wealth of traps to place and a number of skills and weapons up your sleeve, you'll need to be creative and strategic to get the most out of the game — but success doesn't always come easy.

Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap is a thrilling rogue-like that gets continually better the more you play, whether alone or with friends.

After years of the series feeling running in place, the roguelite and hero-based approach to Orcs Must Die’s decade-old tower-defense formula feels perfect. Deathtrap is a return to form with much-appreciated new twists like 4-player co-op, upgradable traps, hero abilities, and much bigger maps. Although the barricade limit is a solid deal-breaker, Deathtrap feels and plays like a solid Orcs Must Die! game and finally feels like a proper step forward for a series that felt like it was doomed to be forever chasing past successes.

Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap blends Tower Defense, third-person action, and roguelike elements into a chaotic yet addictive package. Despite some quirks and a weak tutorial, its fun traps and solid multiplayer make it a must-play for strategy fans.

Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap brings a breath of fresh air that has been absent from the series in recent years. With better optimization and more content in the form of new Warmages, traps, maps and modes it could easily become one of the best entries in the series.

Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap is chaotic fun, just like the previous entries into the franchise. However, by taking plenty of new risks and offering plenty of rewards for players willing to stick it out through the difficulty spikes, there’s an extremely rewarding and satisfying game here. Visually great, extremely chaotic, and well-optimized, Orcs Must Die: Deathtrap is a great evolution for the franchise and gives us a better picture of how future games may play out. Honestly? This may be the best one yet. [Strongly recommmended]
