As one of those who waited for almost 7 years, I should say that this game was worth the wait. It has both the finesse in its soundtrack and narrative. I have left with no words to describe how great this game is. It's a game everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. Consequently, Omori is a gem that deserves a recognition on par with Earthbound and Undertale.

I love Aubrey and Hero, these are the best characters in the game and you can empathize with them as well because these are human characters and well written.

The game tells you about depression, isolation, self-forgiveness, moving forward and gives you the dilemma about forgiving characters or not (not included in the game, just a dilemma made by the story-telling).

Can you move forward with a sin that you can't forgive made by yourself? Feeling the weight of the guilt crawling in yourself?

Must play, a masterpiece of story-telling.
    10/10 Such a incredible experience.

Fantastic and surprising. I knew going in that the art and music direction would be great, but the battle system was complex and engaging and the story (especially the ending) really blew me away. A must-play for fans of Earthbound or RPGmaker games.

Not only is OMORI a masterclass in storytelling, with the themes of depression and loneliness being interwoven perfectly into the story and characters, but the spin on typical RPG combat with the emotion system changes OMORI from an amazing indie to quite possibly one of the deepest, complex, and best games of all time.

OMORI is nothing short of a grand artistic statement, which has boiled within the mind of its creator for more than a decade, brought to the gaming sphere as an intricate, detailed and personal expression, of the meaning of friendship, escapism and trauma.

Honestly, one of the best digital narrative experiences currently available for purchase, standing alongside Nier Automata, Undertale

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is an amazing experience to anyone playing this game because of its beautiful soundtrack, insane content and old but still being attractive enough gameplay and combat system (the skills, toys, emotions, ...)

The graphics is also an addition to this game, firstly it tricks us with White Space, a beautiful imagination world with OMORI's friend and cute mobs and peaceful layout. The story gets darker when we get back to Faraway (The world where Sunny lives) and sees nightmare thourgh Sunny's eyes, then goes back to White Space once again so we know White Space is just an imagination world, we start travelling bc most of the time we get in White Space and then goes back the the Faraway, with some detail so we know Sunny's going to move away and many things happen with real Kel, Aubrey, Hero, Basil and most importantly: Mari is dead.
We keep adventuring until we get to Black Space, a corrupted place with many creepy monster and then the ending, brutal but perfect.
So the upsides of OMORI is:
    + Good layout, soundtrack
+ Intense storyline, reflects many people nowadays who scroll them inside just because of a lifetime mistake so they can actually know that mistakes will never be forgotten, but we have to face up to it and head to the future
+ The fact that it has many hidden secrets and achievements so its the motivation to play this game again
+ How they arrange the "OMORI" with the sentence: OMORI did not succumb, helping us with a second chance to fight the monster while against us at the end.
    Downsides:
+ Shortage of save slots, which makes the game intensively annoying to play again if you are a secret/achievement hunter.
+This game is too long and the storyline is low speed so its boring for the people aged 11-14 (the age group usually has the habit to like something fast but still fun and attractive) and the map is too big that makes finding KEY hard and pitful.
Anyway, this game is still amazing so that you will think about it for a week after finishing the game. A masterpiece at some point tho.

When I first started the game, I was under the impression that it was going to be the Undertale of 2021, but I don't think that title does this game justice. I have played a lot of story games in my life, and there has not been one that has impacted me as much as Omori's. That being said, I don't think that I can give this game a 10.
There is one huge gripe that I have with this game which unfortunately holds it back from reaching its potential quite a bit. Pacing. To put it simply, Omori is a 20 hour game with 8-10 hours of filler content. It is really unfortunate that this is the case, because there were so many parts of the game where I was on the edge of my seat only to be distracted by a 3 hour sequence that for the most part, is meaningless to the main story. I would describe Omori like climbing a mountain, reaching the peak, and then climbing a bigger mountain immediately afterward. Sure, climbing the mountain is a huge part of the fun, but sometimes you just wanna stop and look at the view.
Overall, Omori is a fantastic and impactful game that I think everyone should play, but just be ready for its horrendous pacing. If the game was like 8 hours shorter (or if more of this content was optional) I would have easily been able to give it a 10/10. I recommend this game.

Of course, this is a separate genre, and someone may not like this genre, so when I call it the best, it means that no one has put so much soul into the game in any other genres of games except this one at ALL (recently). I have not been fond of RPG Maker games, but this is an exception. Not only did the story grab me by the soul, but also, to my surprise, the gameplay turned out to be very, very interesting to me. Although the action is step-by-step, which has been trampled for a long time, very interesting chips have been added that make this gameplay more interesting. There are not as many battles, and if you have not played a turn-based action game before, then you will not be bored from fighting almost the entire game. Almost? Yes... The game was made for 6 years, so they made a big and interesting world, they even overdid it, and an ordinary player, like me, can sometimes become bored to explore just every chip, so you will want to skip some places. So it's better not to pass this game in one go (especially 20 HOURS OF GAMEPLAY). After a break of a few days, you will be ready to explore this really good world again. Although the game can be called protracted, but all the quests do not force you to pass, but just give a lot for that money - and this is good. The plot is very well woven, it grabs the soul, and the narrative is one of its main advantages. I will say this: this is not a game with a good plot, it is primarily a masterpiece plot with a wonderful (really good) game. At times when you get tired of the usual gameplay, the game teaches you a change of scenery to another world and gives you a portion of the plot, interest is immediately gained. Everything is perfect. The soul was included in the game to the maximum. The case when the developers did not try to make their own triple A, but carefully polished their brainchild. According to my observation, this has not happened recently in any other part of the gaming industry. The game even made me think, and change some things in myself. Expand

The gameplay is not the most complex thing in the world - it is, for the most part, a fairly basic RPG, except for the EMOTIONS system, which really fleshes out the gameplay. There are a a lot of sidequests to do, although they pretty much amount to delivering items you find during your adventures to certain NPCs. Whilst the game itself is overall very good, what really makes OMORI shine for me is its story. I won't give anything away here, but I'd strongly recommend anyone who's even a little interested based on what they've already seen to just play it and go in blind. The OST is amazing, it shares feelings, emotions, makes you enjoy the game and the soundtrack itself if you listen to it alone, the scenes where the music plays, even if it's a little short, has something to do with the game, is not there only for playing music, is there because belongs in there, the tittle, the melody, the scene, everything of the soundtrack is heartbreaking once you understand everything

The Story is a life changing one, I am a very fan of games like Celeste, Katana Zero, One Shot, Undertale, Hylics, Everhood and I could go on with the list, and none of them reaches the impact that the OMORI story has given to me, everything has a meaning, everything has something to do with the story, even the most insignificant detail is there because it belongs there, the OMORI details don't have explanation, but once you know why is there they take meaning in so much ways

As mentioned before the characters in this game are exceptional, the narrative is amazing and leaves a feeling of dread even in the happier points, and all of this is complimented by an amazing art style and soundtrack.

I don't think I can say much more, the best way to play this game is to go in blind, and I'd recommend you do so if you're interested.

i like how the game projects in the start of the game how something's wrong and then at the end of the game you understand the truth and you can see while you learn the truth how sunny makes himself look like a monster and if you choose to stay inside when kel knocks you just ignore reality and if you go outside with kel then you go on a true/hikkik route but on the last day you can go hikkik so i recommend besides the fact its has sucidial **** but forget it cmon

One of the greatest games for me. I'll never forget this "dreamland" bright art-style and the story. Gameplay is just fine, not the best one though. This game is not about the combat - it is about the feelings and atmosphere. What a shame that this game is not that popular, it absolutely deserves more attention.

Everything about this game, from the impeccable OST to the heart-breaking story, is perfect. Even though the game has themes of grief and guilt, the game still manages to have some light-hearted moments between all the seriousness. Plus, there are literally pancake bunnies, a racist donut, a wise rock, and Humphrey the Whale. What more could you ask for?

This game's main gimmick is using emotional states to counter attacks in a RPS-style system. Sad beats Happy, Happy beats Angry and Angry beats Sad. There are also combo attacks in the game too.

Where OMORI shines the most is in its story. Like with Undertale, I would strongly advise that you avoid any spoilers or Let's Plays of the game until you played it completely. It's a game that has to be experienced.

The game has a great story, captivating characters and good original songs. Also, this is one of the beautiful examples of when a game uses the maximum potential of its engine. And that's the problem, RPG Maker has huge limitations. So the gameplay can be mediocre and boring sometimes. I recommend the game and would play again, but it has its counterpoints.

The story itself doesn't disappoint on its promises. This game has really good writing. You could argue that there's a few pacing issues but, generally, the story flows very naturally and is relatively real and believable. Great, likable characters. I do think that one character has a particularly cliche backstory and doesn't make a lot of sense, but that's really my only complaint.

I think one of the only cons with this game are the RPG mechanics, which many people have found to be boring or unoriginal. I don't really care for game mechanics themselves and appreciate a good, well-written story much more than that, hence why I really like this game.

I recommend going in as blind as possible for the best experience, and also getting the game yourself. I watched a playthrough but I now wish that I just bought it so I could get my own feel for the gameplay and, since there are multiple of them, get an ending naturally.

Fair warning: PLEASE read the trigger warnings before playing. It really messed me for quite a few days. It gets extremely dark and I was not prepared for it. Don't judge a book by it's cover; it gets seriously morbid and it's probably the most upsetting and messed-up thing I've ever played.

The darkness of this game is perfectly captured and represented in a way that I can best describe as beautiful. The game oozes creativity with fun characters yet still manages to keep the overall dark themes looming over the player up until the end, which keeps me anticipating every new nook and cranny. The music is superb as well. Whether it be the happy go lucky theme as you navigate the overworld, a sense of dread theme that plays as you face the true horrors, the game has the perfect music for almost every scenario it seems. Not to mention the fantastic song that plays during the true ending. Speaking of, multiple routes that each provide something new, one route even being so split off that it can change the entire narrative and direction of the game. This adds so much replayability and exploration to an a game already filled with it. The gameplay, while tedious at times, never feels like it's impeding. For those who dont like turn based or it's gameplay, while it's featured, it never plays too big of a role and tedious grinding was never necessary. There's also a number of optional bosses and areas for those that do enjoy it. Personally, I enjoyed it but thought it was a bit uninspired battle wise. While the emotion system is creative, I feel it never did too much more out of that. Even then, I never found it tedious, and for a game like this you understand you're not coming in for top notch rpg mechanics and gameplay, but for a memorable story, and it succeeds heavily there. Overall, Omori is a creative masterpiece that depicts such dark, yet relatable tones in such a fascinating way that makes it feel so memorable. Any who enjoy psychological horror as a genre will adore this game I feel. The twists and turns and story will leave many attached. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me make this quick. I love this game and I adore it. I love turn based RPGS and while the battle system could've been expanded upon, I love it. I love the story, art, soundtrack, and the lovable characters. However, people have been complaining about plot holes in a certain area that is towards the end of the game. I want to explain how there AREN'T actually any plot holes and clear up confusion. From this point forward, there will be of course be spoilers. You were warned.

Okay, so I'm pretty sure all the plot holes people are complaining about come from the truth behind Mari's death. When you learn the truth, it comes out that Sunny actually killed Mari, his sister. Basil is there and witnesses the murder, but helps Sunny cover up the death of his sister. After they leave the body hanging from the tree, they leave the scene, getting away with it. Ever since then, they've been living with trauma for four years. Now, this opens a hole in the story.

How did Sunny and Basil get away with it?

So, if you were paying attention during The Truth area of the game, there's something explains how they really did it. After you fight Mari's hanging corpse and crawl inside the tree, you are greeted by a distorted version of Sunny's house. The windows emanate a red light and the family photo is completely covered in the black vines. There is also the dark figure sitting on the couch. If you talk to the figure, you can quickly realize that it's Sunny's mother.

She says: "My only daughter... is gone. And you... you are my only son. I can't... lose you as well."

This line from his mother explains it clearly. After Sunny and Basil hung the body, Sunny's came back home to a traumatic scene. It's unclear if she came home when they were walking away from the scene or she came back when they were both hiding, but it doesn't matter either way. Sunny, himself, explained what happened to his mother and she took it horribly. Sunny's father also heard about it and left his family behind, thinking his own son was a demon. Of course, Sunny's mother had to call the police, but didn't actually tell the truth behind Mari's death. She probably told them that Mari had suicidal thoughts for quite some time and was suffering from severe depression.

But then, why wouldn't the police investigate the scene further?

The reason lies in the area where Sunny and his friends live. The town they live in is literally called Faraway Town. The main park is almost void of people most of the time and the shops in the center of the town are not busy. This is a seriously small town, not a city bustling with thousands of innocent people and criminals. The police in Faraway Town have probably not dealt with anything serious before, heck, the biggest thing they've probably caught people doing is littering. When they were called in to escort a body and were explicitly told by the mother that the victim was suicidal, they completely believed it. They didn't think there was any culprit or anything. They believed that Mari lived with depression and took her own life. And that's it.

SIDE NOTE: To explain the bruises and cuts Mari probably got from falling down the stairs, her mom could've just said that she was hurting herself before she took her life.

I hope I cleared up some of the supposed plot holes for some people. For me, personally, this game tells a tragic story beautifully and is well executed. This game is a solid 10/10 for me.

It would have been a solid 10, this game, if its final twist wasn't so weak. 99% of the game is pure gold, the characters are well written, their dynamics are fabulous and the story is filled with tension and suspense. The black space segment is genius, as well as almost every real world segment.
But with the positives comes the negatives: this game would benefit greatly of the Earthbound and Undertale dialogue philosophy, and I mean by this to put various pieces of dialogue to every NPC (everytime you interact with some object or character they should give at least two pieces of dialogue). It's not that it's a requeriment for every RPG, but this game would have been perfect to that kind of narrative device.
The twist kinda ruins all the story: it's that bad. It lacks, as Aristotle would say, all the verisimilitude the game was building. It's obvious OMOCAT didn't manage to fill that gap on the narrative, a gap that was required to fill for the whole story but really was counterproductive.
The rest of the game is so good I can't give it less than an eight: if you can forgive a bad narrative movement, this game is highly enjoyable and a cute/creepy experience.

i love it. I find it so entertaining, I feel like im watching a baby sensory video each time I open the game and start playing. I love the whimsy adorable parts and I love its dark parts even more. It works wonderfully, at least for me. Maybe, because RPGS/horror RPGS are the only games I play, i dont know. Even though I love it, I have to accept the headspace segments may be too long for the games own good and the horror elements arent strong enough for me. But, I enjoyed it so much I didnt pay attention to those problems on my first playthrough. After playing most of the hikkikomori route (I still have bossman hero left god damm) I can say that Sunnys own messed up mind toyed with me and made me feel terrible. Not because it was particularly dark, but because I felt guilty. I felt guilty that I drove Sunny into that state. And I knew what I was doing. Definitely something I will not forget.
I also see some of my all time favourite games in this, which only makes the experience better. The excessive strategy, just like a pokemon game. The compelling deep characters and silent protagonist like UNDERTALE. The dark hidden bits of the story, just like WH.

idk but those were the best 300 pesos ever spent on my switch.

Good game but when you play it you get depression. I don't know how this game made me that sad but it did it.

I played this game and Story was too deep like Undertale there is secrets and game graphics both cute and Scary(At some point its scary) but the fighting is a bit....boring but even boring things need strategy so it not too important Game literally goes 16 bits to 32 bits sometimes(handdrawn characters in menus) its a great game and there are some jokes like e t e r n a l b a n a n a

While I have been lucky enough to not lose a loved one to tragedy, Omori still managed to make me feel the despair of losing someone cherished, and the powerless feeling of being able to do nothing to bring them back was replicated perfectly. The game tackles the idea of acceptance and escapism beautifully, and when the credits rolled, I did not move for a while. It is one of those persistent games that follows players even after putting the controller down. I think about it more than I expected to; it creeps in at night before I sleep, and whenever I come across a screenshot or hear the name, something in me just recalls the weight of it immediately. People process loss in completely different ways and at completely different speeds, and Omori never pretends otherwise. What makes it so remarkable is that it does not ask players to have lived through something specific to feel it. It just asks for attention. And with attention, Omori will find something in players to pull on regardless of what their lives look like.

Omori is certainly not for everyone. Someone who values gameplay much higher than storytelling will come away feeling bored and frustrated with the overall experience. However, those who value a game's plot and the emotions that games can elicit will never be able to shake Omori from their headspace. It is a flawed game in many aspects, but I can't help thinking about it throughout my daily life (especially while opening up the spice cabinet), even having finished the game over a month ago. While the entire middle of the game can be frustrating due to its poor design, the third act is well worth everything that comes before it. In the end, everything else faded away, and it all felt worth it.

Having played through OMORI, I’m confident say that it’s an experience I won’t forget. This is a game I wholeheartedly recommend for those that appreciate a good story. With a strong emphasis on catharsis, it has a lot up its sleeves. The cutesy and colorful presentation hides a grim reality and it hits hard. Highly recommended, OMORI is a gem of a game that definitely deserves recognition.
