  1. We can promise you there's no need to fear falling asleep at the keyboard. This final volume in the series has enough life left to prompt many late nights.
  2. If for some reason I were to live in another world that had to be designed by humans, I wouldn't have a problem if Cyan created it.
  3. Playing Myst V was one of the saddest moments in my life. This game is nothing but a prolonged agony. Each puzzle you solve is one more step towards the end. The Myst universe is one of the most beautiful manifestations of human imagination.

Every change to the Myst formula, from the tablets to the varied control schemes, make End of Ages one of the best entries in the series. And the visuals and sound rank among the series' best as well. Highly recommended to Myst fans and plain adventure fans alike.
  5. An artistic, immersive, and fun diversion, with plenty of nostalgia thrown in for the series’ fans.
  6. The graphics are as beautiful as ever, the presentation is immaculate, the story keeps you gripped and your brain will appreciate the workout before you go back to killing it with beer, cheesy Wotsits and Hollyoaks. [PC Zone]
  7. The beautiful graphics and excellent voice-over work help transport players into the Ages of Myst.

End of Ages is a solid bet for anyone who enjoys a good brainteaser with their cup of coffee.
  9. Myst V certainly is not the leap forward game that the original Myst was, but if you like solving puzzles, Myst V will satisfy the Lara Croft or Indiana Jones in you.
  10. I don't want to ruin things for you but just let me say that I was expecting a better conclusion to wrap up such a memorable series. But as with most puzzle-oriented game it's the journey and not the destination that makes it all worthwhile. And it's been one hell of a good ride.

It's a fun, attractive, and challenging solo adventure that satisfyingly concludes the longstanding series with a memorable finale.

This is the first time since the original that the series has been so accessible. With the full 3D engine and freedom of movement, Myst V is more fun and fast-paced than you can reasonably expect an adventure game to be, and is just as visually stunning as its predecessors.
  13. A worthy ending for a long-standing series that doesn't quite reach greatness, but will likely please more than disappoint.

Ingenious new ways to beat the typically insane Myst enigmas lends a fresh feeling to an old hat, and gives you a greater sense of control. [Dec p.59]
  15. So the Myst series ends serenely, calmly, and the way it began. In truth though, I probably did want a fusion of all the best bits.
  16. Myst V concludes this landmark series with dignity and style, delivering a challenging and sophisticated adventure that contains a number of satisfying moments.
  17. The success of the original Myst has inspired hundreds of similar games, and Myst V is better than almost all of them, yet its failure to achieve the heights of its predecessors left me feeling disappointed.

Beautiful and challenging. [Oct 2005, p.146]

It stays true to a vision of great game design making great games, and is a swan song for a beloved tale.
  20. Ultimately, Cyan hasn’t let Myst go out with a bang, not even a whisper, but with a little squeal of joy.
  21. In the end, the feeling of playing Myst V, much like the tone of the game itself, is rather bittersweet.
  22. PC Format

it is more a final sad swansong then a 21-gun salute. [Dec 2005 p.88]
  23. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with Myst V but then again we’ve seen it all before and the story alone this time just wasn’t enough.
  24. Myst V isn't a rosebud twist ending to the series but rather a distinguished, picturesque, and more-than-sufficient finale.
  25. PC Gamer

An underwhelming finale that's a must-buy for Myst completists only. [Dec 2005, p.86]
  26. With this episode the Myst series goes out in respectable fashion. There's still nothing on offer for anyone that craves action, exhilaration or an easy ride but frankly that's no great surprise.

A great game, maybe the best one of the Myst series so far. This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. i never thought the day would come that i would bad-mouth a mist game, but, im sorry, but this game is just a let down. i am a fan of all the other Myst games, but this one just wasn't as good your good friend atris is dead, the lovable child yeasha is now a 60-or-so-year-old and almost all puzzles now revolve around some stupid tablet, the game is no longer a real challenge, and it was not a good resolution to the myst series. in my opinion, myst's final game was myst IV, this game is now dead to me Full Review »
