I’ve never been a big fan of games that require you to invest huge amounts of time before they get good. Our time is valuable and while Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord does eventually get good, the uninteresting grind along the way and lifeless world didn’t do much to pull me back. Fans of the series will still have a great time and if you are willing to invest your time you’ll definitely be rewarded for it, but its frustrating to see so much potential for an even better game left unrealized.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord continues to offer a unique mix of grand strategy and large scale 3D battles. The strategy aspect could have used more depth and variety, as well as a better designed campaign and a lot more tutorials. But it's the battles that steal the spotlight, with thrilling large scale encounters. While the developers couldn't deliver on all their ambitions, the distinctiveness of the gameplay still helps the sequel stand out.

A shallow grind of an overworld strategy game threatens to ruin enjoyment of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord's unique and sublimely gritty tactical action.

Though Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord provides a fun outlet with its battles and the strategies you can employ within them, everything else is lacking in comparison. You might get a solid 5-10 hours of enjoyment out of the campaign before you it dawns on you that there’s not much else to discover but a disappointing realisation.

Intoxicating and addictive, this Mount & Blade II concocted by TaleWorlds magnifies a concept that has already proven itself. More beautiful, more exciting, more ambitious, this app is a must-have for all action-RPG lovers looking for intense adventures. [Early Access Score = 85]
  2. I still enjoy Bannerlord because there's nothing else doing those open world battles. But almost everything else is a robotic, shallow grind offering no surprises, with a plethora of complaints that early access is supposed to iron out. You can ignore a lot of it, which only highlights how irrelevant it is, and though there are a lot more things going on, you have to provide your own motivation, because everyone's behaviour is basically the same, and everything feels like a missed opportunity.

It’s not just bugs and technical enhancements that TaleWorlds are working on through Early Access. The developer has heaps of content and features still in the pipeline, from new story quests and voiced dialogue to making each city and settlement its own unique environment. Then there’s balancing, as well as improvements to the game’s online multiplayer which we haven’t even touched on. [Early Access review]

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is an ambitious game that represented the middle ages in the best way possible and we can't wait for the full release. [Early Access Score = 85]

It's 10 for the first 10 hours. Then it's just an annoying grindfest for hours and hours. You need to spend long hours to become somethingIt's 10 for the first 10 hours. Then it's just an annoying grindfest for hours and hours. You need to spend long hours to become something meaningful in the game, even if you succeed to complete this grinding, you will end up doing same thing over and over but in different shape. Nothing in this game feels anywhere near being finished. It feels like it pushes hard to be an RPG, but fails miserably. The game simply lack of any depth and everything in that fictional world is pretty much bland and uninteresting. For a text based RPG, even the story and dialogues are basic, as if it's written by a mod developer. And oh, mods. Without mods, this game would be a bigger disappointment than Cyberpunk 2077 Full Review »
