The PC port for Monster Hunter Rise is the definitive way to experience this game. I am excited to see where the franchise goes from here, although I will find it hard to slide back into any Monster Hunter game without the new traversal and streamlined elements. Whether you want to hunt alone or play with your friends, play “Fashion Hunter” or experience the main quests, there is something for everyone in Monster Hunter Rise.

Monster Hunter Rise blends the best elements from earlier series entries, and delivers a streamlined, action-packed, monster-slaying experience.

Monster Hunter Rise is probably the best game in the series. It isn’t quite as accessible as World, but long term it offers much more varied combat and a richer experience. Its world and gameplay are insanely engaging and fun. Technically, the port to PC results in solid, smooth gameplay and marginally better visuals. If you have a choice, it’s definitely the way to play, the best and most complete version of one of 2021’s standout games.

This PC port fulfills its role very well because it cancels a lot of limitations of the Switch version. The framerate is no longer stuck at 30 frames per second, the resolution can go up to 4K, some textures are much more detailed, and loading times are noticeably reduced. However, we should not expect either that this former Nintendo exclusive will miraculously transform into graphic mastery worthy of the biggest productions of 2022.

Monster Hunter is a series about systems—Capcom can’t escape that, no matter how much marketing and PR they throw at it. But it isn’t a series about getting it either, as much as its staunchest adherents would have you believe. It’s about feeling it. And Monster Hunter Rise feels good—simple as that.

Despite releasing nearly a year after its Switch counterpart, the PC version of Monster Hunter Rise feels like a minimal improvement. Sure, you can get frame rates in the hundreds and high resolutions, but frequent crashes can reset your settings and cutscenes are still locked at 30. The keyboard and mouse control options are a big boon for accessibility, but the visual improvements here feel so minimal I’ll stick to the portable edition.

Such as fun and amazing experience. Really love the weapons you can use. The boss fights are all really intense and put up a fair fight.

It feels like the game doesn't want you to play it, it just keeps throwing dialogues and stupid tutorial windows at you several times! Go there and talk to somebody then come back and talk to this other annoying character. Finally, a quest! But only following a character that (of course) talks a lot. The UI/UX is terrible!!! Which turns the options menu into a nightmare! Changing the key bindings is almost impossible due to the high number of incompatibilities. I'm sort of tired of this game design, it's so counter intuitive, so outdated. I was so excited to play it, but it just turned into a bad dream due to all these flaws and really bad choices from the developers. Expand

Another case of a possible great game ruined by horrible, sluggish controls. Every button press feels like the player character isAnother case of a possible great game ruined by horrible, sluggish controls. Every button press feels like the player character is underwater; mostly attributed to the large number of unnecessary animations attached to player movement. Can't just unsheathe the weapon, the character needs to spin the weapon and pose first. Can't just put the weapon away, the player has to pose and spin the weapon first. Can't just drink a healing potion, The character has to pull out the bottle, look at it, pop the cork and spend 10 seconds drinking it slowly. NONE of these animations can be cancelled and lead to you constantly being killed or damaged by the monster. The "dodge" ability (which has no i-frames because this game was made by imbeciles) is almost useless since it doesn't move any faster than the painfully slow footed, character's "run". Melee is a complete joke with overly long attack animations that do not auto track and CAN NOT be directed mid animation; this wouldn't be such an issue if the game had a proper lock-on feature, but it doesn't. I can't forget to mention that many of the enemies move extremely fast and have very aggressive, sweeping or lunging type attacks. Normally, these enemies would be an absolute blast to fight, but not with these controls.

These issues are the dictionary definition of "artificial difficulty". The devs decided to go with slow witted control as the primary element of game difficulty to cover their inability to be more creative with how to defeat the monsters. This seems to be a theme with talentless game devs nowadays. Make a game, cripple the player's controls and crow about how "challenging" the game is. "Journalists" can be paid to ignore this laziness but, judging by the game's User Score (the score that actually matters), the players can not be fooled. Put this franchise into the hands of a group of competent developers. Monster Hunter, FREAKING MONSTER HUNTER, DESERVES better than the buffoons who set this trash fire.
