There is a lot I enjoyed with Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes. When I’m winning, I like the gameplay loop. The art is fantastic, and looks great when I play in hand held mode. Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes starts out as a welcoming game. After a few battles, I begin to see the cracks. Enemy heroes I play against are two, sometimes three, levels ahead of me, something that is not easy to overcome. The random drops of units on my side don’t feel equal to the ones my AI enemy gets. I feel like I’m always on the defensive during the campaign. But the multiplier is excellent, pass-and-play is exactly what I want in a game like this.

When it’s at its best, Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes – Definitive Edition delivers an enjoyable fantasy tale that is accompanied by a unique gameplay system. However, overly random elements mar the player’s sense of agency within these battles, greatly diminishing the thrill of victory and leaving them wondering if each defeat was truly deserved.

  1. Despite all this, though, there's still a lot to like and admire here. I can see why people loved it so intensely at the time, and even now Clash Of Heroes feels like a true original. There's simply not a lot else like it - although given how hard it is, I can perhaps see why. Still, even knowing what I know now, if I was faced with the prospect of popping down £15 on a game I'd heard so much about for the last decade and a half, I'd honestly probably still give it a pop, you know? Loading times and all. I'd be more sceptical if it were double that price, say, but fifteen quid is a lot more palatable, and not so high that it wouldn't satisfy my initial curiosity for it. And if its online scene takes off (as it did with the HD remaster), then just experiencing it through multiplayer might lessen the problems I encountered in the campaign. A tentative recommendation, then, although probably more for strategy die-hards than casual toe-dippers.

Might & Magic - Clash of Heroes DE is a fun 3 match strategic game. The story seems interesting. The 2d art is well done. The interface worksMight & Magic - Clash of Heroes DE is a fun 3 match strategic game. The story seems interesting. The 2d art is well done. The interface works well. Everything is fine until you get to the third world, the Necromancer area. This is where the combat has no balance at all. The game become difficult because the area is empty of any occasion of progression apart one random enemy at one specific place that you have to grind. Boring and repetitive. The Ai (if any really exist) has large advantage at this point. The music is not very varied, that gets old quick. I give it 55%. I would have give it better if the dev didn't get lazy after two area.

Update: the problem of balance repeat itself into the last two worlds. You can eventually get over it. But the way of doing so, feels like it was done to prolong the game. The last boss is at level 15, and all your characters are max at level 10. Absolutely unfair, since you are stuck at that point.
