If you've ever wanted to get into a non-combat flight simulator but thought it sounded too difficult or esoteric, Flight is one to try out. After all - the price is right, and flying planes is so much darn fun!

This is a flight sim light on content, but it's not like you have to pay for it, is it? [May 2012, p.102]

Microsoft Flight presents an interesting initial offer that, if enriched constantly through the promised DLCs, will capture the attention of fans of the genre and expand its audience.

The Microsoft Flight's offer is rather poor, however, thanks to a well-structured and deep gameplay and an excellent technical department, the title cut its market share.

The flight model is Microsoft Flight's biggest advantage, as the game is very enjoyable regardless of whether you're a newbie using a mouse for a controller, or a simulation maniac. A promising start to what might evolve into something big. [May 2012, p.73]

Microsoft Flight, despite being a free to play game, has a low amount of content, which will hopefully come later on with various add ons. However, this is a free game that deserves a chance and should be played by everyone at least for a few hours.

As an introduction to flight simulation, Microsoft Flight does a sterling job. It is immediately accessible and offers a gentle but genuine challenge. Veteran pilots may find its leaning towards arcade-type challenges a bit of a turn off at first, but flight stick compatibility, a versatile free flight mode, and aerocache hunting all indicate the presence of a deeper game with lasting appeal.

A beautiful, thoughtful title that eschews hardcore sim for fun videogame. [May 2012, p.95]

Microsoft Flight is a good mix between simulation and accessibility, with a well crafted graphics. Unfortunately there is a lack of contents, both free and premium, that put in perspective the quality of the game.

Fly the much friendlier skies with Microsoft Flight, which is more structured than its simulation-heavy predecessors.

Flight has nothing to do with Flight Simulator and the sooner people realise that the better.

Flight intends to carve out a niche for pilots who want a more casual, friendly, and inclusive sim, and that's something that's never really been done before. In a best-case scenario, Flight could introduce this genre to gamers who typically have brushed it aside under the assumption that it's too hardcore.

Microsoft Flight is a good game especially aimed for those newcomers to the genre who want to learn to fly. However, those veterans who are looking for a deep simulator may get dissapointed by the simplicity of the game. Its free-to-play approach is good news, although the content if very limited for those not willing to pay.

It might have had a bumpy take-off, but with a bit of hard work Flight should grow into a competent sim worth flying. [May 2012, p.56]

Microsoft is attempting to do pretty much everything the purists will hate with Flight, but everything that is necessary to save the IP. How well it's doing it is open to debate, and much will reside on what steps it takes next with the DLC. At present, it's not really a simulation, and nor is it fully convincing as a game experience. But it's definitely no longer scary and that, at least, is a step in the right direction.

In an attempt to make their flight simulator more accessible to a wider audience, they subsequently made it unrealistic for flight fanatics, as well as uninteresting to a larger audience due to a lack of gameplay elements.

This is not a real simulation, but there is also very little action to be found. ... Nothing here is really bad, but it looks more like the basic structure for something that one day may be… well, something. I hope Microsoft has a plan of what this future game might be like, because I don´t really have a clue. But it sure would be sad to see this time-honored franchise just fade away like this.

Empty and almost useless game offers little reason to try it, even for a weekend player – despite the fact that the basic version is free. [Apr 2012]

Plus 2 Points because of all the people who misunderstand it ;) It's called "Flight" and not "MS Flight Simulator" for a reason. This is a causal flight arcade/simulation mash up. It is for all the non hardcore flight simpletons light me who want to fly around a bit without all the simulation stuff. But I understand why the simulator community is pissed, it has been too long since the last proper MS simulation. Oh and Flight is free 2 play so just dl and see for yourself =) Full Review »

if you're looking for an aircraft simulator because you aspire to be a pilot (or you're already one and wanna practice the basics) byif you're looking for an aircraft simulator because you aspire to be a pilot (or you're already one and wanna practice the basics) by bunk-flying actual planes... don't download Microsoft Flight even if it's free. stick to FSX or even FS 2004.

Microsoft Flight has absolutely nothing to do with simulation because they've messed up the angles in order to emphasize the game's graphics. one can't "scan" any instruments... there's just a GUI small enough to see the aircraft's heading, airspeed, altitude, power setting, fuel, and an annoying cross hair. there are no indications for vertical speed and turn coordination. there's also no point in having navigational instruments and flight planning since the game only takes place in Hawaii.

as a game, it's not that impressive either. it only has the ICON A5 and the Boeing Stearman (if you have a Windows Live account) as default aircraft, the rest (which aren't that many) are DLC's in exchange for Microsoft points. i haven't tried this game with a joystick, but it does feel very awkward with an Xbox 360 controller especially during taxi. also, this game can be finished in a day because there aren't enough missions. flying freestyle is also boring with either of the default aircraft. the ICON A5 looks and feels like a car more than an aircraft while the Stearman is painfully simple.

the only good thing about this game is the graphics. that's just about it.
