Very easy going, super immersive, fun first person shooter. The game holds your hand, but there is still a lot of stuff you can miss, including an alternate ending!

The world and the story pull you in harder than almost any other game, meanwhile the gameplay and content makes sure you enjoy the experience and feel in tune with the plot. A true must-play.

Metro 2033 Redux is a good game that could have been better in many ways. One way that it could have been improved would have been simply sticking closer to the novel in some ways. One way that it could have been improved would have been simply sticking closer to the novel in some ways. It still could have been a good game albeit more of a horror adventure game than a shooter. The book captured the feel of the metro much better and took more time in each station where the game seemed more interested in adding in action at every opportunity than story details. The action itself was fun, don’t get me wrong. I enjoyed the firefights; upgrading various weapons; and managing air on the surface. My favourite level was the Ghosts level as it had the closest ambience to the novel. I didn’t enjoy the level with the Fourth Reich mainly because the level design felt too maze like. I also wasn’t a huge fan of the Library level because of the way the Librarian AI was designed. You are supposed to stop and stare them in the eye for them to not attack you and sometimes this worked but other times it didn’t work at all. When it worked it was a good tense level but that wasn’t the case often enough. The graphics were well done overall. The clothing; cobwebs; and animals were great. The object detail; fire; and facial detail was decent but the hair was pretty poor. The game also had great detail on your gas mask such as bugs crawling around it or it getting a bit foggy with sweat. I wish the game had a listing of your current objective. It gives you a compass telling you where to go but no listing of what to do once there. Sometimes this is obvious but other times it would have been helpful. I did like how the game allows you to customize what kind of experience you want by choosing not only your difficulty level but also giving you the option of the Spartan style of play which means less resource management.

I tried to play on Linux but the Linux version was broken beyond use for me. The game was missing various options in the menu such as tessellation; as well as it ran at 30 FPS or below regardless of graphical detail selected. I tried on two separate systems and had the same result. I ended up playing the game using Valve’s Proton. This is how I know that the options menu lacked several options. Even on the Windows version there some issues such as V-Sync limiting your FPS to 60 instead of recognizing higher refresh rate monitors. Alt-tab worked on Windows but not on the Linux version. You can pause cut scenes but not skip them. You also have to wait during the intro videos to be able to skip them, you can’t do so right away even if you have already been playing the game a while. You can’t change the game difficulty after starting the game. The game saves at checkpoints and there is only one save slot. The performance on the Windows version was great. There were a couple glitches I encountered such as enemies clipping in doors as well as one occasion where I had defeated all the enemies in a room but my AI comrades wouldn’t advance any further making me unable to progress. I had to reload the checkpoint; clear the room again and then they moved normally. On the Windows version the game had 5 SSAA settings; 2 AF settings; a V-Sync toggle and 3 other graphics options.

    Game Engine: 4A Engine
    Graphics API: DXVK
    Disk Space Used: 7.81 GB

Graphics Settings: Very High; 0.5 SSAA; 16x AF; blur off; V-Sync off; Tessellation Very High
    GPU Usage: 7-100 %
    VRAM Usage: 1488-2388 MB
    CPU Usage: 22-43 %
    RAM Usage: 3.5-4.0 GB
    Frame Rate: 95-232 FPS

There was a good game here that I enjoyed but there were several ways it could have improved. The Linux version needs a lot of work for one. There is no excuse why Linux users lack the same options as Windows and even on the Windows version things like V-Sync capping your frame rate to 60 FPS is unacceptable. I read the novel right before playing the game and I have to say that while I prefer the novel’s atmosphere and story more the game is fine in it’s own right. I finished my play through on the normal difficulty of Spartan mode in 6 hours and 52 minutes. I would say the current price of $21.99 CAD is fair but that’s about the top end I would pay for it.

    My Score: 7/10

You can almost feel and smell the ecosystem of them. You will be felt to bone post-apocalyptic world. Like I wrote earlier, Atmosphere is that good.
In addition to that game play is smooth. Maybe stealth kills look a bit premature and sometimes it hard where to go in the map but other than that everything feels right.
A couple words for graphics: With new 4A Engine, Metro 2033 Redux shines. If you have PC to handle higher settings. you will find yourself playing one of the most beautiful looking post apocalyptic game ever created.
So Without doubt Metro 2033 Redux is one of the best game of 2014.
Read the novel!(it is also magnificent) Play the game.
Spasiva Dmitry Glukhovsky for giving us such rich fiction world and Thank you 4A Games for making one of the most atmospheric game out of that great novel.

A rather solid shooter. A bit gray but I guess it's because of the setting and nothing can be done about it. The weapons feel very responsive. The UI is a bit of lacking and confusing. You do get used to it and it does help out with immersion - you have no idea how much health you have, the character starts coughing and chocking when needs a gas mas or to switch filter.

Shooting people is very nice, monsters not so much but that might be just personal preference. The story is ok - not really captivating but not terrible - but fits the general atmosphere of the game and the setting. Some cut-scenes could have been avoided. The finishing sequence is also the only thing not fitting the whole setting.

Overall I enjoyed the game. Jumped a couple of times as well. Disliked a couple of areas and really liked others.

I played this game without knowing what to expect... and wow was I blown away. I expected Metro 2033 to be your typical post-apocalyptic shooter, and although it did fit that description, it executed it unbelievably well.

The story is incredibly deep and well-written, and the atmosphere and realism are top-notch. You won't find many gimmicks in this game like you will in other games.

It's hard to describe the game because it's one of those games that you have to experience for yourself to understand how great it is.

The game comes with various difficulties and playstyles for you to fine-tune your experience. I personally played on Survivor Mode at Normal difficulty, but I think you can increase the realism further by playing on a harder difficulty.

The game easily deserves at least an 8, which is only weighed down by the ever-so-slightly-simplified gameplay, somewhat short length, and some glitches here and there. It's definitely a game all shooter fans should add to their repertoire.

7/10 because i experienced some bugs in the game. If i would not have had bugs then a solid 8/10 or even 9/10. This is a story driven atmospheric slow paced sneaky shooter. In a way if brings the mind to half life 2 even if it cant measure up to it fully. Characters are well done but a bit quickly discarded. But it makes sense since you are sneaking around in the subway tunnels of Moscow.

Metro Redux keeps itself where what made the original Metro 2033 great and puts it all into the Metro Last Light engine. Making what was a prodigious game even better; first by making the game less Unstable, and making it more streamlined in its new game engine (where the original Metro 2033 still struggles to run smoothly on modern systems due to its un-streamlined game engine of the time). It also fixes the middle of the game ‘game breaking’ bug, in which you would be shot off the map when the player fell off the rail cart, requiring multiple reloads to fix (which was never patched in the original).

Along with all these improvements it also adds the great things from Last Light, such as the weapon customization and modernized weapon aiming, gunplay and control layout! This also includes bringing improved textures including for the character and enemy models from Last Light (which is a nice touch).

All while allowing you to play in the original Metro 2033 style of resource and ammo management, or you can play in a more action oriented fashion with Last Light's game style, In Redux both play styles are accommodated. Along with Ranger difficulty; which make you and your enemy’s more dangerous (something really never in other games like Call of Duty where the enemy is just more accurate).

All and all Metro 2033 is a classic (Mystery, Horror, Resource Management, Story Driven, Shooter) all of which I would express are done superbly. I have a great passion for the original Metro 2033 game when it released along with the Book Series, and this ‘Re-master’ makes it all for the better and improved! Metro 2033’s dark post-apocalyptic setting in the Moscow Metro is like a character in its self, and gives the game and it characters a great atmosphere. Highly recommended to try it out and find out why so many people love this series!

Pros: Story, Gunplay, Weapon Selection, Multiple ‘True’ difficulty settings (Play as you want to!)

Cons: Human Enemy AI (Is sometimes respectable sometimes not so much)

Middle: Linear Story Driven Game (Not recommend for those who love endless open world experiences)

The game is very atmospheric, diverse in gameplay, dynamic skirmishes with bandits at the stations are replaced by dark "tangled" tunnels, along the way we get acquainted with the far from sweet life of people in the post-apocalyptic world.
I now, not even about the constant attacks of mutated monsters on human settlements, but about a simple everyday life in which people live in a room consisting of one bed and only, and the children play with all sorts of rubbish or hammers.
Each character at the station has his own story behind his soul, his own thoughts, feelings.
Gameplay: I liked the attitude of the developers to the details. I really feel how they emphasized realism. The weapon is interesting and original, not very much, and you can only carry 3 small arms and 2 missile weapons with you, plus a knuckle-knife. There is no automatic reloading, if the last cartridge in the clip went into the barrel, wait for the misfire. Ammo is always small. Another interesting point is the powder smoke from the shot that obscures the view, which makes it difficult to make a subsequent shot, and it's cool. All enemies wear helmets, and more than half also wear gas masks. Therefore, you can kill such with a single shot right on the neck, side or back. Well, or knocking down this helmet first. But then the enemies will sound the alarm. Sometimes they will let you shoot with an easel machine gun and a flamethrower, a pleasant trifle.
As of 2014, I want to note the following advantages of the game: + Storey Line. Excellent, dynamic, moderately mysterious, storyline, on behalf of a person who lived his whole life underground in the subway.
+ Atmosphere. Metro and darkness. Apocalypse and hopelessness. Devastation and survival.
+ Gameplay. Skirmishes with human enemies are interesting. It is also possible to complete stealth levels. Enemies do not shine with a special variety, people, mutants. There is a certain variety in the methods of killing opponents. I really liked the use of cartridges as a currency. The presence of a limited duration of the gas mask. Powder smoke from a shot obscures the view. Dynamo machine for charging a flashlight and night vision device.
+ Artificial intelligence. Enemies are accurate, use cover, and throw Artem grenades.
+ Picture. Photographic, high-quality textures are pleasing to the eye.
+ Physics. Items in the game behave like in life. Mostly. And the overall picture is not spoiled.
+ Optimization is good. The game does not crash. But he eats resources extremely, and sags on the “qualifier”.
    Of the minuses are present:
    -The game is too short.
-Linear. No freedom of action and side tasks. - A stupid save system based on individual save points.
As a result, we get a pleasant, well-developed first-person shooter, with the possibility of repeated passage, to get an alternative ending and better assimilation of the plot. A game with a great atmosphere and an interesting plot.

    VOTO: 9/10

Metro 2033 was a flawed, but good game. The Redux does a wonderful job of taking away those flaws while also updating the graphics, leaving us with a game that is great and feels modern despite its 4 1/2 year old underpinnings.. It is a shame that being a "remake" of a cult (i.e. not super popular) game it didn't get the press/critic coverage that it deserved.

This is the fix I used to solve the issue:

    - Go into your Metro directory folder in steam and find the video folder (wherever it was downloaded, something along the lines of /SteamApps/common/Metro 2033 Redux/2033/ or /SteamApps/common/Metro Last Light Redux/)

    - Delete the file named "intro.ogv" (without the quotations)

    - Open notepad and save it as "intro.ogv" (without quotations)

    - Save the intro.ogv file you just made into those same folders the old intro.ogv files used to be in

    - Run the game. It should run without any more issue regarding crashes at the beginning of the game

Love the game, and the atmosphere and tension is intact.

Had some problems, though. At one point (the battle between the Reds and the Nazis) when I got into the Nazi area, all the soldiers were animated - but there were rooted to the spot and completely unable to engage in combat. Needless to say, it was pretty easy to get through that section of the game - but hardly any fun!

Further, if I tried to kill a soldier with a knife, the game hung, requiring me to restore to the last checkpoint. Also had a couple of complete hangs, requiring me to kill the program.

Fortunately, it hasn't ever locked up my machine requiring a reboot (Windows 8).

So I had to get this a lower rating than the original game.

For those of you having issues installing I am very sorry. This game is kickass and beautiful. Hopefully those of you who are unable to get in have a patch coming your way soon. Regardless of how much brighter the underworld is then the original the Librarian sequence is and I swear to god just as scary if not scarier then the original. I have a pretty sweet asus sound card for my Sennheiser HD 598 head phones. The sounds in this game are so creepy at times that I had to take my headphones off and switch over to my speakers. This was due to i was jumping and turning around way to often like a **** The audio bump from Metro 2033 to Redux is amazing although it does take a decent open ear headset with a soundcard to truly enjoy. My daughter walking on squeaky floorboards above me was often mistaken for in game sound that's how unbelievably clear it is. Most scenes are startling however this game does throw you into a ton of run for your life moments especially in the harder difficulties on Survival mode. Survival mode really does make you think hard about your weapon setups which to me adds a whole new level of tension. Out of ammo = run and hope u can get to the next objective which happened to me frequently LOL. I will totally RLTW again with Ranger difficulty on Spartan mode. 11/10 for doing such a good job resurrecting one kick ♥♥♥ game.

Avoid bushes in combat they are too OP. ;)

A must have in your game collection for those familiar to the franchise and new comers. Excellent visuals, exciting gameplay and a down right MUST HAVE! Such a great price, even for a remake. The user score speaks for itself (in this case).

How to properly re-do a game for next gen. With heavy graphical upgrades, performance improvements, added missions, all DLC included, this game is a MUST HAVE. The optimization is heavily improved, with the original Metro 2033 running at 30 fps on the highest graphical settings on my PC, Metro 2033 Redux not only looks 10x better but runs at 60 fps at the SAME graphics level. If you did not purchase the original Metro 2033 you must play this game, i even recommend players who did play it and really enjoyed the original i recommend going back and trying it again. I do not recommend purchasing Last Light Redux though if you already played the original Metro Last Light as there are not too many improvements to that game.
With the best atmosphere in any modern game, a very unique world, fantastic combat, tough and scary enemies, and a good story this game is one of the best out there.

One of the most atmospheric and immersive first person shooters of recent years becomes even better, by enriching its gameplay, normalizing its performance and enhancing its graphics, with the use of the latest 4A engine features. Its main disadvantage is the discontinuation of price discount for those who already own the original Metro 2033 upon official release.

A valuable remake that makes the original Metro feel complete on PC.
