A let down is the lack of control over the military units, the consistent and predictable AI especially within the vikings.
  2. Ultimately the game’s strength, at least in terms of gameplay, lies in balancing the needs of communities and creatively planning functioning medieval settlements. It may not be deep, but it feels pretty accurate.
  3. A fun and entertaining game especially if you're a strategy fan; however on or two quirks, a lack of passion and an generally clunky feel deter from the overall experience.
  4. The simplistic battle mode and lack of micro-management might not tax every single brain cell but when you become successful, nothing quite beats popping into first person mode and walking past the bustling marketplace that you created.
  5. While good company can and does overshadow some of what the game does wrong, it cannot mask the fact that Dungeon Lords, on the whole, isn't very fun.
  6. This is one of those great but flawed games; if you’re up for the challenge then tackle it head on, you will be rewarded.

It's too easy, it looks and sounds merely adequate and the combat sections are painful to experience.
  8. It left me feeling frustrated and many times I found myself ranting away after quitting. The major things in need of improvement are the means by which you earn money, the levels of food consumption and production (which run low very easily), the dated graphics, and, probably the biggest thing, your people’s satisfaction.
  9. City management was never meant to be adrenaline-invoking, vein-busting excitement. On the other hand, we’ve seen the genre served so much better, and look better, too. Make no mistake, madam: this here Medieval Lords is cut from very ordinary cloth.

It's less punishing than "1503 A.D." and not as insufferably cute as "The Settlers." It has none of the depth of "Children of the Nile" or its Impressions predecessors. And it's as mildly entertaining and ultimately forgettable as it sounds. [Feb 2005, p.71]

A familiar-feeling game with absolutely no personality. [Apr 2005, p.87]
