If you like mysteries with just a bit of conspiracy in a thoroughly detailed historical setting, Mata Hari is the right adventure for you.
-
Simply designed and well suited to gamers who don’t mind a milder difficulty level, Mata Hari might not be one of the more challenging adventure games I’ve played, but it manages to be an enjoyable piece of historical fiction with excellent aesthetics and a fantastic soundtrack.

LEVEL (Czech Republic)We expected a first-class product from Barwood / Falstein duo and what did we get? An ordinary adventure with a flat story. The game itself is not that bad but we were hoping for something special. [Issue#174, Jan 2009]
-
The plot is not very stimulating. Acts follow each other with little drama, and its puzzles and minigames don't affect the game quite much.
-
Mata Hara was a legendary woman – this game is a one-dimensional disappointment. Instead of offering a thrilling story the game is just a line of mediocre dialogues, held together by some stereotypes. The riddles are boring and often only seem to be there to connect some mini games together. That’s not enough.
-
Mata Hari should have been made as a casual title. A handful of active screens, simple controls, and a few forgettable mini-games would have easily satisfied unpretentious gamers.

PC Zone UKThere's little point bothering with Mata Hari, unless you're looking to sedate a relative and lack Rohypnol. [Dec 2009, p.75]
