Just from the start, i see how the game getting fix left and right and the fixes is constant, not to say its broken and it need fixing, some of this are actually an improvement to the game. they constantly fixing the balancing issues, the defensive issues, way more better itemization, end game issues, and even asking the community on feedback regarding the animation of the game. They are giving us the chance to help them makes the game that we want and will loves.

the developer said over and over that their commitment is long term regarding this game and they have been proving it weeks to weeks. So props to gazillion regarding this, their efforts is outstanding.

the game itself is really fun which is really surprising, knowing the bad launch review. I'm glad that i gave this game a shot. I never really a big marvel fan, so i played this game because i love ARPG game, and i love grinding. some reason this game manage to gives goals to mindless grinding and gives the players a rewarding experience from the time put into the game.

I would rate the game as where it is now maybe 8 9 scores wise, since in any way the game still in progress for getting better, but due to the efforts that i see and experienced from the developer, I'm giving this game a 10/10

and please don't judge the book by it's cover, play the game first and then makes that judgement, you don't have to pay any money at all if you want to start playing this game. its Free to play. I have unlocked 8 heroes so far, and i only started with one free hero, this is game is that rewarding.

Marvel Heroes a game that shows great promise with a team of developers that listen to its community. The constant changes based on actual player feedback makes this game almost player ran. While it may currently be in a beta stage there is already promises of brand new content, heroes, and changes that will make every comic fan scream with joy.

As for the game itself, Marvel Heroes is a very basic and short ARPG. lacking the features of Diablio 3 and other modern ARPGs. The story mode can be finished at around level 23 and this can accomplished in a weekend of light playing.

The game is free to play, but unlike most F2P games, the entire game is designed to force you into the VERY expensive cash shop. While most F2P games offer cosmetic options, the cash shop in marvel heroes is a necessity. You will start with a selection of bland uninteresting "C roster" heroes and very little storage.

To sum up, Marvel Heroes is an ARPG with very little content and a Pay to Enjoy pricing structure. Expect to pay 12-20 bucks per Hero, and 12-20 dollars per costume.

Gear does not change your appearance, and there are a limited collection of costumes for each character as well as very weak power trees. I'll admit that the game is fun at the start, I had a blast but it quickly wore off because of its repetitiveness. The game needs more visual diversity (acquired gear should tweak your characters appearance), it needs more heroes, it needs to allow you to create a custom hero, and it needs Ghostrider. The real disappointment of this game though is it's fixed angle isometric 3d camera view. While it works fine for fantasy based games like Torchlight or Diablo you really lose the "heroic" feel of your hero because of the restraining camera. No custom heroes and the action RPG engine really killed this, it should be a true MMO like DC Heroes or Champions Online. This has potential to be a great game, but it will never, ever, feel like a true super hero game. Lessen the grind and give us more customization (both character development and visual appearance) and this will be a winner, but still won't feel like a superhero game. Expand

The storyline in itself is quite good, you fight various Marvel villains during your progression, but the challenge is inexistant nad you don't suffer any consequences when you die. Also, the comics panels cutscenes were not a good idea. You can enjoy the high quality of Marvel illustrator's work, but they don't bring anything to the game itself.

Otherwise, the problems in this game are legions A bad launching which resulted in balancing issue through intense patching, an end-game content limited to the same 9 dungeons you do over and over again, and the need to pay up to 20 to play your favorite hero (costume not included) are as much issues that will keep you away from enjoying Marvel Heroes.

The rest of the game is spend running the same missions you've completed before over and over and over again for a lower rate of experience. By design, this game is slow and plodding.

Now, if you want to get new heroes to play, you can forget about the hero drops that the game promises can drop from any mob. Even with special item find gear on, your chances of ever getting a hero are slim at best. If you go to the Gaz store, you will find the products there so ridiculously overpriced.

Lastly, Gaz has proven that they do not listen to or care about their players. Every patch makes the game more grindy while they nerf (sometimes stealth nerfs) heroes and reduce the amount of expedience earned.

PVP is a joke. Heroes who are level 60 will run over dozens and dozens of lower level heroes. Many of the current high level heroes got that way through early game exploits and bugs. To the johnny come late heroes, you will never be able to get to 60 much less compete with anyone higher level than you.

Save yourself the time and avoid this game. If you must play, I hope you enjoy the first 25 levels; after that the game is punishing.

Also I love that there are multiplayer zones where you can talk to people and just play together instead of making a group. Guild are in the game and are just perfect. The choice of heroes is fine and it's always fun to switch hero on the fly. The costumes give you that extra thing that other games don't have.

Conclusion, this game has a lot more to offer then other games in the same genre, more features getting added on a regular basis.

Summary: If you like Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, go play it again; its been years, you'll probably have fun. This game is a very pale shadow of that one and brings nothing new to the table.

This game is a buggy Diablo clone and proud of it. Game creation seems to have followed these steps:
Step 1: Make a Diablo-clone engine; skimp on QA; nobody will care if the game just doesn't run or you have serious problems, its free-to-play.
Step 2: Populate it with the story and some of the characters from the 7-year-old Ultimate Alliance game.
    Step 3: Release.

    Where are the issues?
In step 1, they made a decent-looking engine and packaged it with a terrible installer; patching the game has on multiple occasions caused it to stop working, completely aside from the occasional server outages, leading to a frustrating uninstall/redownload/reinstall cycle that Steam users can avoid some but not all of. This points to a lack of a decent QA department; or more likely a lack of paying attention to said department; and/or mediocre programming.

Step 2 is the more frustrating part, however. This game's plot reads very much like the plot of ultimate alliance. In fact: "Doctor Doom has a scheme involving gathering villainous allies and artifacts so that he can have divine levels of power and reshape the world in his own image; a variety of Marvel-universe heroes combine to stop him." is the plot for both games. While Ultimate Alliance took you underwater, to the far reaches of space, to demon hellscapes, cities, and all sorts, Marvel Heroes takes you to.. mostly boring earth cities and wilderness, along with places you already saw in Ultimate Alliance.

    If you think I'm making alot of comparisons between the games, there's a good reason;
Ultimate Alliance let you play as the whole roster for one price, was an action-oriented game you could play offline, local co-op, or online with friends, featured plenty of power customization, various costumes, and even some item collection, had jumping, picking and tossing items, and so forth.
Marvel Heroes is... a 2D version of ultimate alliance with no initial cost and a much higher eventual one if you want to unlock many heroes. The gameplay is incredibly similar with the only truly noticable difference being the tedious effort of collecting and managing identical-looking pieces of gear; items that don't even impact character appearance but just background stats.

Do not play this game. Do not give these people your time or your money. For the price of the Iron Man and Spiderman unlocks for this game, you can have Ultimate Alliance in one of its many versions shipped to you, and play the same story, on much more interesting locations, with a more diverse cast of characters, still play it with your friends as a team, and not worry about the incompetent programmers at Gazillion.

The characters and power are on point, exciting moves & appropriate, although they really aren't that many. The issue with this game is that it was specifically made exploit F2P philosophy. It really forces you to buy marvel characters, because no one wants to play as daredevil(storm, hawkeye, thing) for 20+ while hulk and more popular smash on everything. They purposely chose to start you with the most unpopular characters to irritate the player. Drop rate for heroes is something like .00005%. I really don't mind forking up money for F2P games, but in this case it's really too contrived and the game isn't even original.

The game is very big, recycles maps and sucks at giving you direction. The lack of style and attention to detail and love makes the gaming experience very hollow and suspicious. The developers didn't seem to have gamer's in mind. I understand profit is necessary, but come on. It feel like a bad Diablo slapped with marvel brand. It worked I played, but 12 hrs in I don't see myself see myself playing this in the future.

I hope this game fails as hard as it can to shock developers like gazillion into doing more than cookie cutter games and relying branding to sell a game.

Unfortunately what kills this game is the outlandish business plan attached. Bonus it's free, but within two minutes of the game starting, you realise that's a sucker play. You're presented with a choice of 4 heroes, and once you chose one, that's who your stuck with until you pony up some cash for another one. There are, in theory, hero drops and it is concievable to gain your favorite character through playing. However with 50 hours invested, I've had 2 special drops and one was for a hero I already had (the likelihood of a drop being a character you already have is by design). I wouldn't mind the 'pay for new heroes' scheme as much if it wasn't quite so overpriced. Characters cost anywhere from 6$-20$, even if you figure in paying 40$ for the game (roughly retail for a new release like this) you're only looking at having a starting stable of 3-5 characters, which isn't the end of the world, but it certainly isn't a game model I want to support for future game builders. All in all, not a bad game, but a horrific treatment of the already laughable phrase 'free to play'. Expand

I was happy to see her as a playable character and leveled her up to 25 before defeating the main story, Dr. Doom. I invested maybe a little over 20hrs into the game.. mainly because I was lost half the time. Overall I had a great experience with this title, especially considering that I paid NOTHING!

After defeating Dr. Doom I have little interest in continuing towards the end game as the story line is effectively complete at this point. I can see how vets of action/rpg give this game low marks as once you look past the cloak of the Marvel branding, this game is a bit flat.

I'm a fan of Marvel and a complete noob to this genre. Marvel Heroes was a great device to finally get me interested in action/rpg in the first place and I'm certain that Marvel Heroes will not be my last adventure into this foreign territory.

Admittedly this kind of gameplay has been done many times before ever since the Diablo series made it popular, but the fact that you get to play as your favorite Marvel super-heroes keeps it entertaining. The game can get really laggy at times which is sad because when things are running smoothly the character animations look fantastic. It's got a pretty lengthy campaign which mainly focuses on taking you to different locations set in the Marvel universe to fight super villains all while sporting a poorly written plot. The endgame content focuses more on daily challenges and the PVP arena. It feels sort of relaxing to reach the endgame and spend the rest of your time trying to max out your character. At any time you can play as a different super hero, which you can either pay real money for or hope to get in a loot drop, and start back from scratch. Admittedly the Marvel theme helps this game a lot. Without it this would just be another generic brawler. But the fact that it uses famous organizations, locations, and characters from the Marvel universe will keep any Marvel fan invested in it. It being free-to-play also cushions the blow. So if you're a fan of Marvel's proud history you owe it to yourself to check out this free-to-play gem. Just keep in mind it has got some light issues. Expand

I'm not joking, if you want to look like the 1990s cartoon version of Cyclops, that is $15, and they go as high as $20.

To unlock all the playable characters (more are coming, like DLC) you would spend well over $100. To get the costumes, it's hundreds easily.

But that's not where the nickel and diming stop.

Inventory is pathetically small, and costs to expand.
Cosmic Keys necessary for dailies are over $1
    Respecs cost money
Unstable Molecules for crafting require money.
And there is even gambling (fortune cards) for $$$

Combine that with the fact that the game isn't very good, and it's pass.

The story is pathetically terrible. You actually get beaten by a lawyer at one point.

A lot of the criticism I've read so far is people who don't like things that were in Diablo 2, like the terrible grind to 99. The level cap for this game is 60, but it's the type of game that is not about being level 60, it's about finding gear (and new heroes, they are an in game drop too).

The main story is basically the "normal" mode and then they have mission terminals that allow you to replay the dungeons in "nightmare", "hell", or "Inferno" mode basically. They also have one survival challenge type of mission that is by far my favorite. You and 14 other players team up (the system auto groups you so you don't need to find a party) and you fight 7 waves of enemies and then a boss. It's very challenging and very rewarding (tons of exp, loot, and the best boss drops).

There's so much I could say about this game, but I'll leave it at this: If you want an ARPG like Diablo 2 then this game is for you. If you want an MMORPG like World of Warcraft, then this game will not meet your expectations.

This game has a lot of potential, but I'm afraid that it won't get there, and will become a sinkhole, if it isn't nurtured right.

I didn't know about this game until about a week before release, I didn't try the beta. I am an avid fan of the playstyle and game type, however. This game is most comparable to Diablo or Torchlight, but it lacks in many places where those games flourish.

Firstly, my premier gripe is the MMO style location setup. I simply do not need 50 people in my home base with me while I am trying to shop. It became extremely laggy in these times, and made shopping and stashing tedious and irritating. A F2P that requires a better system than mine to be playable doesn't seem to be a very good premise. This is amplified in the field where you are fighting. On one hand it is good that the creatures respawn and bosses can be fought with an alternating group; on the other hand it is extremely laggy and farming is very simply by simply standing near where a boss will respawn. I sense an easy way to abuse.

One of my favourite things about this style of game is the customization and building of a character. There is a very limited amount of skills that are selectable for the characters, and despite their being so many characters, it is still incredibly dull where character building is concerned. I don't want to have to pay money to get a new experience with a new character every month. I would prefer to build and rebuild my own character in an ever expanding myriad of ways.

I don't know much about the Marvel Universe that the normal person isn't already aware of. The costumes may be very interesting for reasons I don't know; but visually and aesthetically, they are boring. They require a level of personal attachment to a particular version of a very particular super hero. This is great for the players who want to pretend to be a very specific super hero that someone else made up. I was hoping for more customization with my own hero, and their looks, and hoping to make a character mine; not play the character designed by someone else.

A good game for a super fan. But not a game played by gamers in this genre. It is very much a niche idea designed for a particular type of person. Those people, however, will have a great time.

In terms of pros, I have none. This game fell completely flat for me.

In terms of cons, this game has horrific, perfectly-square levels that are barely broken apart by large square buildings. It's isometric, so you can't move the camera. While playing, you will often find both loot and enemies hiding behind scenery elements that any other game would take away but for some reason are left in place in this game. The bosses are uninspired; you can beat them all by simply running in a circle while they try to get you. The effects are nice to look at, but if you get ten guys on the screen all hitting AOE at once, the game will grind to a halt. If you stand in an empty area long enough, creeps will spawn and aggro you.

This game is an attempt by Marvel and Gazillion Entertainment to trick thirteen-year-old boys into begging their mothers for $84 to buy four characters they can get in the game anyway if they grind long enough. It is disrespectful to the fanbase and fails most definitions of what a game is. For me, this one was a pass.

This game was a total let down. I bought the supposed Premium pack with all the unlocked characters but got nothing. Response from support was the site is still in development. Would like my back at this point in time.

This is a great free to play game. But it is not really a great game to spend any money on. The writing is really top-notch. I would not be surprised if I found out that actual comic writers worked on the script, because it's as good as you'll find anywhere. The animated cut scenes in comic book style are so well done that I actually looked forward to watching them, as opposed to furiously pressing the Esc key and hoping to skip them.

That said, the prices are kind of ridiculous. You have to pay $20 just to unlock several of the best characters, including Spiderman, Deadpool, and Iron Man. That's $20 each, not $20 for all three. Even less beloved characters like Rocket Raccoon cost at least $10-12 a piece. Then if you want to get one of the costumes, be prepared to spend another $10-20 per costume. I'm not sure Gazillion realizes this, but I would have spent $20-30 on this game if I felt like I would get more than two new characters, or one character and one costume out of it. As it is I probably will beat the game with my free Daredevil character and move on to something else. But I'm not paying $20 just to play as ONE character that I may not even like.

Anyway ultimately the entire game is free, there is no "pay-to-win" mechanic at all, you get 5 characters to choose from in the beginning and 2 more free heroes as you play through the game. For what it is, that deserves an 8. If you're interested, give it a try, make sure and give it about two hours so you can experience everything the game has to offer before deciding.

I would have gladly paid $40 for this game if it had a proper single player campaign. The MMO aspect and the insane pricing ($6-$20 for a single character?!?! Are you F'n kidding me?!?!?!) ruin the whole experience for me. I love ARPG's and Marvel so hopefully this will get better with future updates.

The biggest issue for me is character customization. In an MMO, we don't want to all look the same. Outside paying extra bucks for a different outfit, everyone seems the same. Letting us use the superheroes as a powers template while letting us look different would have been idea. Add the ability to change colors and you have something better. I know there are those the WANT to play as Hulk or Hawkeye or whoever... that would be fine in a single player game... this is an MMO.

Gameplay is the next big thing... yes it is similar to diablo... but been there, done that. The lack of depth of the level design and a poor storyline makes the gameplay a drag. If they were going to steal the diablo design, I wish they would have stolen some of the elegant levels and inventive stories.

Greed... right... I get that it is free. But nickle and diming us to death is worse than a subscription. I am sure it is a tough time to balance between gameplay and making money, but here they went too far for the greed.

Good news is that you can try this for free and all you are wasting is your time. That is the only thing I can say positive about the game. Frankly, even that is too expensive.

Marvel Heroes is still young but the game is remarkable when it came out. Almost all the Heroes are balanced. Most of the heroes are fun to play with the story line is interesting. The lag can be annoying but the game play is awesome. All I just want Marvel Heroes to do is keep making more content and events to make game play even more exciting.

Before people dive into this game it is important to understand this game is Free to Play. That means you can play the entire game without having to spend a dime. If you op for this route, you have the option to play as 1 of the 5 starter heroes and will be given 2 additional starter heroes after you beat the first quest and the last quest. However, if you want to get one of other heroes like Iron Man, Hulk or Ms Marvel, you can either buy them off the shop or wait for them to drop randomly in game. Currently the prices for heroes in my opinion are a bit overpirced but recent communication between the Developers and the community has started giving me hope that the prices will be readjusted.

In terms of the game play itself, I personally believe someone will have a lot of fun if they enjoy playing as their favourite Marvel Hero and destroying things left and right. Each hero has specific abilites and all of them each have 3 skill trees that allow for one hero to be played in different ways. However, the idea of having skill trees may be nice but certain heroes currently have very imbalanced abilities making it feel like there can only be one build for the hero. Hopefully the Devs can figure these things out and come up with a solution ASAP.

My current problem with the game is the lack of content it has with Endgame. Most games that are called MMOs and ARPGS usually have a few things that give players something to continue to play after Endgame such as Legendary loot, replaying story through higher difficulties, epic group events and Player vs Player. Currently there is group events and PVP but the quality in both these areas is lacking. Epic group events in this game revolve around either doing a form of horde based game mode involving 15 players or you can be in a group of 5 and turn of portals called Rifts. The idea works is solid but the map variety as well as the inability to find groups makes doing these events solo.

There is no denying Marvel Heroes was released too early and would have benefited from more beta tests. However, here we are and so far I am really enjoying the game play. If Gazillion can make some of the changes listed than the game will be a lot better. Currently if your looking to try new games, definitely give Marvel Heroes a go

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you like Marvel comics and you like Diablo (Diablo 2 to be exact) and want to play a free game, this is it. However, if you are expecting anything more you need to pay for that.

F2P you have a handful of heroes to choose from. Hawkeye, Thing, Scarlet Witch, Storm and Daredevil. Each with a different play style which roughly matches 3 or 4 other heroes in the game (ie Thing plays a lot like Colossus and Hulk, Daredevil plays a lot like Wolverine, etc). If you want to play your favorite hero and they are on the list, you pay for that or hope beyond hope that you find that hero during your travels which so far is highly unlikely.

Play style is Diablo/ Torchlight type. You click to move, wander around a map and splatter dozens of enemies that mob you when they see you for loot. Graphics are pretty decent, you can zoom in and see some detail but I found playing like that nearly impossible. Loot is simple, green to blue to purple rarity each usually randomized drops primarily for whatever hero you are playing. Side quests are pretty straightforward, 3 'elites' and another mob associated with the 'story' of wherever you are (robbery interrupted, police aid, evil ninja dojo destruction, etc).

For F2P, this game is great. You can pick one of the 5 heroes and go to town for hours IF you enjoy Diablo play style. If not, this will take up maybe ten hours of your day and you can move along, dont worry its free. Now if you want to pay for a character or a costume or an upgrade of some kind you can, each hero has a few costumes and there are something like fifteen heroes to choose from. So for the price of an indie game off Steam you can play Wolverine in his Patch costume.

I really like the idea of this game. No messing around, play one of these for free or support the game if you want to play your favorite hero. I think people expected a lot more from this game but it is a F2P hack and slash. Yes if you want to play another character you have to pay. yes if you want more space in your bank you have to pay. Yes if you want to have Jean Gray dress in a bootie costume you have to pay. Or dont.

    What rocks:

Free. Unless youre picky then.. cheap.

The characters, their moves, their colors, their voices and snarky comments, all made of win. Hulk is near someone playing the Thing and yells (audibly) 'You want to go another round Grimm?! Anytime! Any place!'

I love Marvel comics and havent seen a decent Marvel hero based game.. well ever. This is the first. I play through and honestly want to go back and read my heroes story again.

The few drawbacks for me were these:

I play Wolverine.. So does someone else. I hate seeing multiple heroes, it messes with my comic book world. I should be the only Wolverine! Alas, what can be done. I do enjoy the army of Hawkeyes in all their purple glory volleying hundreds of arrows while I am in slashing away though.

Starting up an account and having an account name without special characters that someone hasnt taken is really a daunting challenge. It took me thirty minutes to get a name that I didnt mind that hadnt been taken.

There is a lot of vanilla in the game that I hope gets changed around. The crafting system is a little dry and a little useless at times, the gearing seems a little slow and sometimes its hard to find something that will work right for your hero. There is little to no end game content to speak of.

All in all, I hope there are some updates to make the game a little less jerky in parts. Update the mapping, build out the side quests, add more heroes (Magik please!). Time will tell but as a F2P, it will be on my rig until I need space.

Marvel Heroes is a decent game, but the lack of hero customization options, narrow skill trees, and the low difficulty level was too much for me to ignore. If you're not interested in seeing anything ground breaking and are merely looking for something to play to pass the time then it's worth it, but if you're expecting a high quality AAA product then you're better off looking elsewhere. The following are a few key points:

    - Story campaign is very short (8-12 hours max to complete)

    - End game is extremely repetitive (same missions over and over with slow experience gain)

    - Heroes don't differ much. The mechanics are very close from hero to hero they just change the graphic/name of skill.

    - As expected Hero balancing is off the charts bad. Many useless skills resulting in very one dimensional builds. PvP balance is non existent. The developers work on the game much like an amateurish mod team with each developer making changes individually without any extensive thought process or collaboration with the other hero developers.

Essentially you'd play this game because you enjoy the idea of playing of one of your favorite comic book/movie heroes; however, what you have pictured in your head and what will transpire in game in terms of your heroes power are drastically different. Iconic heroes are beat up by common thugs late game. Range heroes are king while melee heroes litter the field with their corpse. However, the game is free so what do you have to lose?

Hell no, boring, not enough characters I would play to choose from and repetitive game play with very little reward. Will I be keeping an eye on the game for heroins I want to play such as X-23, yes. I would play the crap out of this game if I had options like that. There is a list actually in the forums asking people who they want to see as a playable character in-game. People from all wakes of life and Marvel fandoms have given answers.

First off, I should state that this game does have developers from Diablo II. They have also stated that many of them also loved Diablo II when it was big. That being said, yes this game is more or less a Diablo II clone. I believe that fans of Diablo II would greatly enjoy this game because it has many elements of game play from D2. Though there is a “if and only if” clause to that statement.

You should enjoy online games, you would need to at the least enjoy comic book like story telling, and also understand the quality of a made to be, Free to Play online MMO (F2P). I was invited during the second tier closed beta, I believe and when I first started the game was just barely playable. Really laggy, client and server side, the frames per second were much too low to actually play comfortably. The User Interface was just ugly as fresh dog dooky, and controls were only friendly to me because I new the core game.

As a testament to gazillion games though, I want to point out that every single problem early beta had has been cleaned up, fixed, and polished for their summer release. Of course minor game bugs are still here and there but those can be cleaned up with time.

I think a lot of the numbers Marvel Heroes will see right after going live will be those that have been following the game because of either of those elements, gaming, and comics. I also think that if you haven’t play Super Hero Squad Online, that you should research a little about the game before you hate on Marvel Heroes in its current version.

The game play, if you have not ever played Diablo II, is your standard dungeon crawler with your character’s movements controlled by mouse clicks and your hand placed across “ASDF”. You use your Super Powers with “ASDF” and your basic attacks with left and right mouse. You can also hold down Shift to stand in one place while you get off a few ranged shots before the melee npc swarm you.

I should point out that this game is character driven. By that I mean, if you don’t like or at least tolerate one of the starting characters you’ll find the game to be rather boring.

I was comfortable with Scarlet Witch until I was able to use Ms. Marvel and see for myself the drastic game play difference. Scarlet is weak in melee and I got my butt kicked a lot, but with Ms. Marvel I was a wreaking ball. I spent most of my time with Ms. Marvel until we were given more G’s to spend in the store. G’s are this game’s real money transfer currency. Here is where my first issue with this game lays. If you don’t want to play any of the starting characters you have to either A) keep playing and experience everything new with someone you don’t like until a hero you do want is dropped as loot. B) You spend real money for in-game money and buy your favorite hero, or second favorite hero.

I’m well aware that I am a minority here when I say this but I really only like to play female heroes, super or otherwise. If I play this after it goes live I either have to spend money on a free game or play it half hearted until someone better drops. Here is this problem’s saving grace. Like I mentioned before, this game very closely resembles Super Hero Squad Online. They are also made by the same company, this gives me a higher outlook for this game that I would by just reading reviews about it. SHSO has a CRAP ton of possible heroes and heroins to play as, from Emma Frost to She-Hulk.

I should also point out that you can use the “armor” loot that drops from mobs but it won’t change your appearance at all. You have to wait for costume patterns to drop and then make them with ingredients that also drop, or just use some G’s and buy them in the store. Costumes are a little more than vanity items unless you craft them, then they have minor stats on them.

So, does all this mean that Marvel Heroes is going to make a boom when it hits the free MMO market? Not a chance, at least not in the way most people think it will right now. Luckily, this game isn’t going to be subscription based, otherwise it would surely flop. The income for this game will be solely from the G Store sales and possible deals they might run through out the year.

Does this game stand up against Diablo III, sure, if you love Super Heroes more than sand and medieval settings. Does this game stand up against DC Universe Online, totally, it is something new and fresh for the time being but it is only PC for now.

It has a solid game play, with different characters giving different play styles, and also different enemies on different level, map variations, but it's shallow because it's was following or trying to be the same with other games that have similar game play. while it's nice to play until you can finish the story, but after that you will just feel flat, repetitive and boring.

Lots of comparisons to Diablo 2 because one of the devs for that game also worked on MH. However, D2 is the epitome of a loot based, fun adventure game. MH is just boring. I defeated the final boss, Dr. Doom, at level 24. After that you have to do the same daily missions over and over to get to max level. There is no endgame content at all!!! I never had any hero or costume drops from levels 1 to 24. Apparently those dont drop until you are at max level.

Really disappointed in this game. After I defeated Dr. Doom I felt no satisfaction or accomplishment at all. I uninstalled the game after just a few days of boring gameplay.

All of the people claiming that negative reviews of this game are biased just because its FTP are totally missing the point. It's not necessarily the FTP model that i dislike, (although in this case it is a pretty bad FTP model) ITS THE GAME I DISLIKE!!!

Marvel Heroes could have been a very good game, if not for the choice of "free to play".

While free to play games must offer huge revenues given the number of companies that have been jumping on its bandwagon, it is ruining the gaming industry. Marvel Heroes is another example of this in a long line of titles marred by petty options designed to try leech cash out of its players. Quick examples of this are:

*Only a choice of 5 characters to choose from at start, with characters to purchase ranging from $6-$20
*New character drops currently being reported as rare as Zod runes were back in Diablo 2 days
*Costumes for these characters costing as much, and in most cases more, than actual characters
*Inventory space completely lacking, with payment required to open new tabs ($6 per tab)
*Crafting items that DON'T stack in a clear ploy to promote inventory tab sales

Now any one of those points on its own ok, I could personally have let it slide on the basis they do have to make something. But all of them, for those prices, together? No.

The level of greed in the use of the free to play model here distinctively hurts game-play. It is a sad thing for me because the flow of the game, level design, quests, the feel reeks of Diablo 2. You'd expect this given some of its developers run Gazillion who are responsible for Marvel Heroes. D2 was a game I adored and played for nearly a decade before the release of Diablo 3. I'd put it to you that Marvel Heroes is still a better game than D3, although features negatives including:

*Disproportionate space use in level designs
*High PC resource draw leading to lagging issues, especially in event boss fights
*Even in 4 man parties and graphic options trimmed down, the screen is exploding with effects to the point of hazard/distraction
*Occasional huge distances needing to be traveled between quests that can lead to a sense of being lost

There are good things to the game. It is a very pretty game. Each hero has a very unique and crafted experience that gives a lot of feel. Characters talk and wisecrack to other nearby heroes with character specific responses. Voice acting and cut scenes are clever in their simplicity and styling. The crafting system is simple and effective. There is no Auction House ruining the drive the driving force behind you playing; for the loots.

Yet, all of these good points for me only get this game half way, and its because the majority of those good points become a casualty in some degree to the free to play model.

All I could offer to you is that I did pay $20 for another character. I felt their time was worth of that investment at least and I have enjoyed my time so far with said purchase. Now I am left with a character I like progressing through the game, but being challenged by poor design choices to to spend more money. Ultimately, Gazillion have presented poor decisions based upon greed, with a title that offered the potential for greatness and a loyal fan base. What a shame.

Welll what can I say..... This game is a lot like a Diablo type hack and slash game, but reallllly boring. The level design is so bland. The enemies are like attack of the clones, there is very little variation. I almost fell asleep after 1hr of playing. Do yourself a favor and save the 11 gig download for another game.

Marvel Heroes is a MMO Action RPG that was definitely made by Marvel fans, for Marvel fans. All of the 21 default playable characters have moves well befitting them, and whether you're taking a trip to Madripoor, aiding the Morlocks under Mutant Town, or seeing the face of the literal Marvel version of Death when you're downed, the game's full of nods small and large that true believersMarvel Heroes is a MMO Action RPG that was definitely made by Marvel fans, for Marvel fans. All of the 21 default playable characters have moves well befitting them, and whether you're taking a trip to Madripoor, aiding the Morlocks under Mutant Town, or seeing the face of the literal Marvel version of Death when you're downed, the game's full of nods small and large that true believers will appreciate.

The gameplay is easily summed up as Ultimate Alliance meets Diablo. The game is very action-oriented and loot-driven with a leveling system and enough unique mannerisms and skills to make each hero stand out. Whether you're leaping on top of mobs and smashing them to the ground with The Hulk, regenerating health more quickly than you can lose it with Wolverine, or taking out groups with The Punisher's heavy and not-always-conventional firepower, there's a lot of fun in taking any character and beating on street hoodlums, agents of AIM and Hydra, and bigger enemies including giant mechs and the iconic Sentinels. Boss fights naturally involve fighting big-time superbads like The Green Goblin, the Kingpin, and Magneto, and each one has their own attack strategies, some more varied than others, that you'll want to counter and react to if you wish to survive.

The core game is a lot of fun, but there's enough to dampen, though not destroy, the experience. Though you can choose from one of five starter heroes (Daredevil, Storm, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, The Thing) for free, and can earn a couple others through story progress, the majority are not so simple to get. Character pricing is rather excessive, with the range running from $6.00 to $20.00 per hero. Since there's no option to buy $6.00 worth of currency (known as G in the game), to get a $6.00 hero you'd still have to pay $10.00. Only three heroes (Spider-Man, Iron Man and Deadpool) go for $20, but it's nevertheless an inadequate pricing system.

Costumes, meanwhile, can cost every bit as much as the heroes themselves. Deadpool has an 'enhanced' costume that does more than happen to be merely a re-skin, but it also goes for $20.00, meaning that getting that costume along with Deadpool himself would cost you $40 altogether. Characters and costumes can be dropped in game, meaning that you could feasibly unlock all of them without paying a dime, but these drops are exceptionally rare.

Another major downer is the content past level 30. The main story ends at around level 25, leaving you to perform daily challenges that are pretty much equivalent to a pointless grind. Your character earns their final ability at level 30, leaving little incentive to use him past that point. It must be said that better content for the levels past 25 will most-likely be added over time, but for now it's not recommendable. Fortunately, even if you never buy anything there should still be three heroes to have fun getting to level 30 with, with more to be attained for those that can play long enough to get the rare character drop.

In the end, if you're a big fan of Marvel then I think you'll enjoy this game, even in its imperfect state. The game that's there is addictive fun, and the variety in the way heroes play makes it a joy to switch between them to enjoy each one's perks. For those that are less partial to Marvel and superheroes in general, however, it is a harder recommendation, and those looking to focus on one character at a time or spend little to no money might not get as much out of this.

This game is great, very addictive and fun, the gameplay is just so good, the animations, the voice-over, the art, the heroes in special have unique abilities and gameplay, but what i most like about this game is that you don't have to pay a dime if you don't want to.

It's a very playable game for a F2P. I love marvel universe and i love diablo 2 and this game is pretty much the mix of them. What totally destroys the game is, that this is the most expensive F2P ever created. If you want to try out every hero and skin prepare to pay at least 200 euro. Absolutely ridiculous prices are what totally ruins this game.

Solid ARPG. Some slight balancing issues (Magneto is awful for some heroes), the pricing isn't very good, and the game is pretty short meaning nonstop daily farming or running alts. Gaz's does a good job addressing bugs in a timely manner.

Simply a great ARPG with cool Marvel Heroes, good power trees, and a fun loot game. The public zones have shared quests that combine the Diablo-like mechanic with indie games like Realm of the Mad God. It has a cash shop, but EVERYTHING in there also drops in game so it rewards play time as much as cash.

Play for free after they fix the game, maybe a months from now. Beat the game with a free hero, then move on to something else. Expand

Marvel Heroes is too early come out. That is the first thing you need to know. Good thing is that this game has potential. But overall is fun. They need lot of work on content, end game, pvp and balance.

Really like animation, music, action and overall gameplay. But dislike maps and that you can not change your visual character but only with costume. And cash shop is too expensive for

I liked it so much, I gave them $20 and bought Black Panther, a costume and some XP boosts. Black Panther is ridiculously fun to play. I have played the game near to completion and I'm loving every minute.

True, it's not that hard to get through it and it is not as deep as some other ARPGs. But, the powers are excellently done. The loot is acceptable (not too jackpotish, not to stingy) You truly feel like you are playing a superhero. For example, with Black Panther his acrobatic moves are just like you would want them to be. He Front rolls over a mob stuns them, punches and kicks then does a back flip while throwing a knife, or leaving a bomb. Then tumbles back into the fight, jumps again, punch, punch, kick, flip kick, sweep kick, and finally a double punch to the throat to finish the job. Its fluid even under a heavy load.

I gave this game a solid 8. It does have room to grow and some of the pricing structure could be a little easier on the wallet, but this is a secondary concern. Try it. Play it. And if you do give them $20 for Thor, he won't let you down, he is a beast!

Marvel Heroes is an Free-to-Play ARPG with MMO elements. It plays very similar to the Diablo and Torchlight series. The main issues with the game are lack of content and the pricing of heroes you wish to purchase. As of right now, the range varies from $10-20 per hero with the most popular being $20. You do, however, get to choose 1 of 5 heroes to start off with (Storm, Daredevil, Hawkeye,Marvel Heroes is an Free-to-Play ARPG with MMO elements. You do, however, get to choose 1 of 5 heroes to start off with (Storm, Daredevil, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, and Thing). After the prequel, you get a second Hero token from those five and a third starter hero after you complete the game.

The main storyline only gets you to about Level 25 by the end of it and that's assuming you complete every quest along the way and do a bit of exploring. The game itself is really fun, but at the end it leaves you wishing there were more to it. The "endgame" consists of doing Daily Missions which are essentially just running through the main storyline over again, except you skip to the last area before the boss. Each boss is stronger and now has an affix that gives them a random buff (Ignore Defense, Quick, Vertex Field, etc.) which makes them even harder to defeat. Unfortunately, the grinding can get a bit boring and level progression after you hit Level 30 is painfully slow. There is other endgame content such as group instances (raids), but I have not done any of them yet. Each raid allows you to have anywhere from 5 to 25 party members at a time. I have not personally been a part of it, but it sounds like it could be fun.

Another common criticism this game has is that a lot of people think that each melee/ranged/tank character is about the same with just a different skin. However, I would have to disagree with that. Although they may have similar roles, the way they are played feels a lot different. The statement is valid though since most characters for the most part feel the same early on, but once you level up and unlock more of their skills, you'll notice how each hero brings something different to the table.

Unfortunately though, unless you are willing to shell out a great deal of money for this F2P game, you will not be able to have much of a variety of characters to choose from since the rate at which hero tokens drop are very low.

Personally, my biggest gripe (aside from Hero pricing) is that the gear that you can get does not vary much and is very boring. Also, I feel like the stats don't necessarily get better at higher levels despite the rarity of the item. For example, I found a rare Level 12 piece of armor, but when I found another rare piece of armor of a significantly higher level, the amount of defense it gave was actually less than the Level 12 piece. I think it would have been nice if they had more than 4 tiers of rarity (common, uncommon, rare, and epic) and at least had a fifth tier for Legendary items, but there aren't any in this game. It would've been nice to have Set Items, but there is a lack of those as well.

I have put over 30 hours into the game leveling various heroes and think that this game can be worthwhile if you have a group of friends to play it with. Guilds are currently disabled, which is a bummer, but I think that once the functionality is put back into the game, it will be a lot better since it will be easier to find a group of people to play with. There are a lot of things that I think could be better, but overall I think that this game has the potential to be something great. If you are a Marvel fan and enjoy simple ARPGs, you'll probably enjoy this game. However, if you come into the game with the mindset that it will be like Path of Exile or Diablo III, you will be severely disappointed.

At the end of the day, though, these few good points don’t make up for the flaws with what should be the most important elements of a game like this - the combat and the loot grind - and an overall lack of polish. Being free to play, you don’t lose out on anything but 15 odd gigabytes of your data cap if you want to give Marvel Heroes a go, but with that said, it’s hard to recommend this game over the other free to play lootfests that are around.
