actually the best game i have ever played. I really enjoy the story, gameplay should be better, but it is still funny. Riding is funny too. And the best thing about this game is soundtrack. I enjoy every song in this game. And DLC Sign of times is funny too.

The game graphics are ok, not 2016 worthy and here's another kicker, it seems upscaled from 720p which could be the blur everyone is reporting, people are asking for an AA option, but realistically only a texture pack is going to fix it.

This is clearly a game for consoles that has been ported at the last min for PC with no love, care or attention, truly shocking, Hanger 13 should be ashamed of themselves right now, I would...

Great story, great pacing, great atmosphere of the city. Yet, Mafia 3 does not feel like Mafia. It could very well be called New Bordeaux (as the city IS the main character) and sold as new IP. - IT IS NOT MAFIA game although props to Hangar 13 for trying something new and innovative in terms of historic setting
    - wonky mechanics and mouse/keyboard control
    - butchered port for PC (no graphical options, antialiasing making game look super blurry, 30fps lock is plainly disrespectful for pc community, crashes)

Just another developer showing that PC gaming has to be downgraded to the lowest common denominator...Please, learn from CD Projekt Red and Witcher 3

I really really really wanted to like this game, well, I do like it in small doses but it is frankly impossible to get immersed into fantastic story Hangar 13 concocted due to sheer number of technical issues plaguing the PC version.

Really disappointed with Mafia 3. Please respect PC community and finish your product guys (so now, 2 days after release when the game got negative reviews you plan to unlock the framerate? Like that could not have been thought of prior to release).

*note* I do understand there is patch coming but you have to judge the product as it's shipped.

This is also first time a Mafia game didn't awe me with visuals. This game is ugly and the lighting engine is so broken that every sunrise and sunset looks like a atom bomb explosion. Random flashing of trees and posters... I could go on and on about that, but all of this can be fixed, what can't be fixed are the missions and boy, oh boy, those are boring. Side missions, main missions, it's all a blur. The initial story, the opening is strong, emotional and very powerful but the further you go, the less enjoyable it becomes. It's an open world game (tired of 'em yet?) filled with repetitive missions. The longer I play, the more I feel like I'm forcing myself, like it's a chore... I'm disappointed but I wasn't expecting anything great, after all, it's not 2K Czech anymore but Hangar 13... and it's their first game. Doesn't matter they have veteran developers there, they might not work together like a real team yet. This game is just mediocre, not bad, not great. Just "meh". Expand

First, it came out with this disrespectful 30fps lock. After removing it, turned out - it's not very well optimized. Also it looks pretty ugly, luckily you can fix it a bit with reshade filter (removes blur, sharpens image, fixes color palette).

The next issue is gameplay - it's disjointed from the story and story telling it feels almost like you are doing fetch side quests in MMO. It's utterly repetitive.

Now boss kill missions are a bit more diverse and are more connected to storytelling, but that's frankly not enough.

Moving next to a story itself - ideologically it's not bad, but it's not developed enough, it's very straight forward, it lacks plot twists and bit of expansion into more directions. Actually it's just enough because very good narrative and story telling compensates a lot for rather weak plot development.. But with a bit of imagination, more connected gameplay this story could have been pretty solid.

The areas where Mafia 3 delivers is already mentioned story telling, characters (tho not all of them) and music. Soundracks are really fabulous and they picked most memorable tracks of that time period - I really loved the music in this game. Characters are great - Lincoln and especially Donovan are brilliant, I think these two alone (combined with great voice acting) carried this game out from red rating for me - father James while might appear a bit strange - I thing thematically fits very well here and plays important role in enlightening what kind of story this game is trying to tell. Secondary characters (villains) are also pretty good, they could bring more light on them, but since 80% of gameplay was unrelated - there was no time for it. Finally a bit disappointing are your assets - they have interesting background and good cast, but they stay in the shadow completely thru all of the game - they should have been incorporated more into the game and the story.

Overall the ending is pretty satisfying as such. It basically tests if you learned something from this story or not (it has 3 major endings, of which one splits into three possible sub-outcomes).

This game had potential, but it was rushed out in pretty bad shape, but not everything is that bad about it.

Maybe if the game was released with all the dlc's and optimizations not only on the consoles, but also on the PC's, the third game in the series would have a greater acceptance of the public; And because of the story and its soundtrack, I end up playing countless times for the FUN that the game has brought. I hope for a sequel with John Donovan as the protagonist, whoever finished the game knows what I'm talking about.

    Pros:

    - Very well designed city and the feel of the times.
    - Nice shooting and driving.

    - The idea for core game play mechanics

    Cons:
    - Core game play is repetitive and boring after first districts
    - Bosses don't feel very unique, nor do the encounters with them (apart from 2 or 3)
    - Washed out colors, blurry graphics.
    - Cops do literally nothing. Speed limits don't exist.
    - Generally the game play is a mess. It has good ideas and parts, but things don't add up.

Mafia III tries to deliver a strong cinematic narrative within a game, a double-edged sword in the industry of videogames. Very few have succeeded and Mafia III unfortunately is not the exception. What is more disappointing is that everything Mafia prequels stood for was gone in gameplay and story wise.
    Game Design
This game has a huge, gigantic, enormous problem with the design of the HUD. I mean critical and it gets to the point when you question if they are insulting your intelligence with text in the screen, unnecessary indicator signs (you have a GPU thing in the map why you would put pop up signs in the actual city) the mission objectives are all over the place; it really ruins the immersion that was built with the city. This is basic and mistakes like this shouldn’t happen in a triple A studios. There are no save files so you can play missions that you like (not that there are many enjoyable missions) and if you want to make different choices you must start from scratch.
    Videogames 101
Although there are many technical and gameplay design issues I feel that it has already been said in numerous reviews both from users and specialized sites and are explained with great detail. Instead would like to confront a very serious problem that mafia III has and many heavy narrative driven games have: you are making a game and before start thinking in how you’re going to deliver this awesome story you must realize that the player will spend double of the time playing than watching a cinematic. The most beautiful narratives in this medium are created with the player. What a game designer must do to generate this is simple: guide, linearity, scripted events can’t be seen as a bad thing even if you pretend to create this free roaming city.
What does a Mafia story mean?
Long story short: means painful slow downward spiral where the price is not worth the sacrifice, where the stakes are always at its highest. Mafia III set this perfectly, the elements where there, even the hints of the non-linear structure story teased a great finale. Instead, every opportunity they had to give us a surprise was wasted. Lincoln never faced a challenge, I never felt was something at risk (not in the gameplay not in the story) Hangar13 portray an un-clever, boring and non-threating criminal world that is waiting to be dismantled (the retaliation thing was a good idea with a bad execution). There’s not even a struggle when you’re assigning districts and conflicts can be easily avoided. Betrayal, corruption, crisis, collateral damage where only mentioned but rarely affected the player. Cops where supposed to be a pain in the ass because of the period, and because they are in Marcano’s pocket, you could easily create and element of “resistance to expansion” where the cops could have been in charge of closing business and fighting associate warehouses. I’ve never seen such potential wasted so easily. That’s why I felt cinematics felt so out of phase.
Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven
What made Mafia became a potential franchise? Well practically all the things they erased in mafia III, some may say the story driven immersive cinematic, I would say many games before Mafia I had this signature (MGS, hitman, Final Fantasy) so no, it’s not the resemblance to a Hollywood movie but the details. Some may say useless I may say the soul of a good strong narrative IN GAME. Gun shells bouncing while you’re fighting an ambush, cursing in your seat because you are out of gas in the middle of the street while you need to go to a doctor, running a red light and stop the car cause the persecution is not worth the risk, pick locking a car and wait for the door to open, realizing that the face of the protagonist has a different mood in every mission, shooting a car in the gas tank knowing that it may not explode at all. That is a mafia game and I’m very sad that the franchise has come to this. I’m sure Hangar 13 gave all his love; I felt the effort in every inch. Probably the best character in the game was the city. But I also felt the pressure, the checklist that they needed to fill, the deadlines and the half delivered game.

The game is departure from very scripted Mafia 1 and 2 with its open world style. There are similarities to GTA for sure and there is noting wrong with that because the game is cool in its own way. Combat is excellent, lots of shooting, cool guns, cool driving, and the game has interesting story. Cutscenes are really well done.Collectables are finally worth finding. Playboy magazine collectable is the coolest. This is not just cover pages but actual photos of models and some interesting articles from Playboy magazine in the 60th. The game is not as monotonous as some say. There is variety of different types of main missions and some cool side missions. I have not encountered any major bugs in the game. I enjoyed Mafia 1 and 2 and I am enjoying mafia 3. I am glad I bought this game. Expand

Since the release of the teaser, I was disappointed with this new Mafia. I absolutely loved the first game as well as accepted Mafia II. I absolutely love the graphics on low settings. I don't quite understand why people say it looks bad. The texture quality is outstanding on low settings, perhaps people want too much. Driving feels bad, it's true it sucks after Mafia II's driving physics. I also miss NVidia's PhysicX, it's a shame they couldn't make a deal with NVidia and put it in just like in the second Mafia. The things I liked the most is combat and story. Combat feels really good, it's fresh, the AI feels like a real player, not a bot who always knows where you are. They also go "yolo" sometimes, which is always fun to watch. What about the story? Well, I liked the "big missions" you get to play once you complete X ammount of unnecessary "side-missions", but even that gets repetitive and boring after some time. Also, when I first saw the return of Vito in the first teaser-trailer, I was excited, but now I think they shouldn't have touched him and other Mafia II characters. The ending of Mafia III completely ruined the dramatic and shocking ending of Mafia II.

    Worst Mafia game yet.
    Worth buying on sale.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I had to redo my original review of this game after playing an additional 17 hours or so as one of the complaints that I wrote about (having to return to the safehouse to stash my character's cash in between missions in order not to lose half of it if my character died) was not valid. Turns out you can unlock a perk from Vito that grants you the consigliere who you call on your phone and the show up in less than 5 seconds to collect your money.

So since I can;t just edit my original review here's a rewritten one:

For me the game is quite enjoyable. It looks quite good to me and runs smoothly at 60 FPS since I installed the patch. I have had one CTD in 26 hours of game play. (My system is nothing special- I7-2600K@3,4 GHz, NVidia GeForce GTX 970 with the latest driver, 32 GB ram, Windows 10 64 bit, Sony SSD)

I think that the reason that there are so many negative reviews is that people weren't expecting an Assassin's Creed type of gameplay. If you like to run and gun you probably won't like this game. Stealth is a huge part of the game especially in the first dozen or so hours. Patient is a virtue in short supply these days so I feel that rather than admit that they are impatient people they just slam the game. If your style is run and gun you will die a lot. And I do mean A LOT. Also if you don't like late 60's music and IMO a rather accurate portrayal of the racism that existed in the 60's (I turned 13 in 1965) you probably won't get it but trust me, it is an accurate portrayal. The first school that I attended was segregated and I still remember the anger and rage that so many white people felt about that issue. Get over it, it happened.

The only complaint that I have about this game is the lack of a manual save feature; of course this is not a small thing. Honestly I can't give this game more than a 7 because of that but since so many, um, mentally challenged people have given it zeros (I mean really, a zero???) I decided to put mine at 10 for the official count just to try and balance things out a little. If you played and enjoyed Assassin's Creed IV and liked it I think that you will probably really enjoy this game.

A few thoughts about the game design:
-You are limited to two weapons at the start, some type of pistol and a shotgun, rifle, automatic rifle, or machine gun. Ammo is also limited although you can pick up the NPC's as you kill them assuming that they are using the same type of weapon that you are.
-The driving in the game (and there is no fast travel option like the taxi in GTA V) reminds me of GTA IV, Cars will only survive a 3-6 crashes depending on how severe they are before they just stop running,
-I found the story quite engaging and the cutscenes (and there are a lot of them) look so very cinematic. The facial motion capture that they used sets a new standard for quality; it is quite literally amazing..

No game is for everyone. If you like Call of Duty and GTA V you will most likely not enjoy this game so don't buy it. That simple. And who buys a $60 game without spending at least an hour on YouTube checking out the gameplay before buying? There have been play throughs of Mafia 3 for at least two weeks on YouTube (check the Angry Joe Show and TheRadBrad channels for some). But I just don't see how any honest reviewer could give this game less than perhaps a 5. There are indeed some odd design decisions but what game doesn't have those? I know that some people have complained about having trouble getting the game to run and crashes. All that I can advise on that is to make sure that your video drivers are up to date before you start. Download and run an excellent program called CCleaner that scans for issues with your registry and then fixes them. If you don't have a SSD defragment your harddrive before you start downloading the game. Repair the game in Steam (remember, Google is your friend). If you do buy the game, relax and enjoy it! It is a very well done game-not perfect by any means. The lack of a manual save is especially irksome (I do hope the developers fix that via patch sooner rather than later) but other than that, just think Assassin't Creed and not GTA V when you buy it.

Graphics seem great, yea they could be better but can't they always?

    Soundtrack is fantastic and catchy

Story so far seems well writen and well characterised I feel for clay already and I still haven't hit upon the meat and bones of the game yet.

As for the rest of the game i haven't really got to the side objectives and taking Sal apart so i can't say anything about it which is a shame.

Driving mechanics are serviceable I've switched to simulation and the car now feels heavy and more realistic and as for the shooting mechanics although Clay was a soldier he hasn't got the pin point accuracy of max payne because of this it feels a little more authentic with the gun fights, you won't be popping headshots left and right you will be forced to ground as you are not a bullet sponge this helps make the shooting feel tense rather than just filler, the guns so far have a nice heavy feel and the death animations of the other guys are well animated.

Now for the nasty stuff, the game had ramdomly shut with no error message only once in my play through and when I was loading up the game i was unable to set the boarder because i couldn't see any button prompts I had to wait till i got into the game to do so (not that major i know but still an issue i came aross)

Lastly a level headed view of gaming on PC in 201X, games are coming out quicker and sooner then ever before this is because they can cut corners and "patch it later" just like this 30FPS lock that has got all the gaming snobs in a fuss, granted we've spent alot on our gaming PCs but we've been told it WILL be patched in soon, the game is more than playable at 30FPS ANY game is playable at 30FPS so don't let that put you off of a brilliant game at this moment I am going to score it a sold 9 because I am blown away by the game in this short window, but over time I might change my score.

i had my car bounce 75 feet up in the air for no reason 2 times
some of the vehicles i went in to made no engine noise at all when i was driving them
and during 2 separate cut scenes i saw 2 burkes and 2 Casandra (which is not suppose to happen)
along with several game crashes that i luckily only lost 10 minuets of progress to
    the general good things
the auto save did a good job saving my progress despite the crashes
    the story was fantastic overall
the cut sense for the most part had the best quality cut sense i have ever seen graphics wise
satisfying gameplay brutal take downs that's only beaten by the gears of war series
a satisfying ending that easily **** on mafia 2,s stupid ending
    satisfying stealth mechanics
and the best soundtrack i have ever heard since the witcher 3
    the general bad stuff
killing enemies in cars while in a car yourself was far to easy
90% of the mission objectives in the game is just kill this steal this destroy that or all 3
the pc being locked at 30 fps the first 3 to 4 days of its release
graphic quality being inconsistent beyond the cut sense just look at the sky when you want to see the worst of it
a very bare bones car customization that mafia 2 **** on
inconsistent enemy ai rangeing from being suicidal idiots while others where actually using cover smartly to try to kill you
overall their are some thing in mafia 3 that really impressed me but at the exact same time their where other parts of the game that where very mediocre i feel as if this game was either rushed out the door to soon or just didn't have enough of a budget to give it the extra year or two worth of polish and care this game clearly needed to hit this one out off the park i still like this game but its a dam shame it wasn't as good as i had hoped it would be :(

At least it isn't some pay-to-win, micro-transaction game, like every other AAA game these days, and for that, we should all be grateful.

Pros: The graphics are good with a bit of texture glitches here and there
The gameplay is addictive and enjoyable shooting dudes, driving around and so and such
The story is **** great all the characters feel like they're important and have such an impact
The soundtrack is amazing every song is great to listen to
The voice acting is great but the lip syncing could be better

Cons: The weather effects are bad but not horrible
It gets a bit repetitive at the end
    The optimization is ****
When driving it's a bit hard to drift around corners
Lack of side activites like playing pool, races, helping some citizens etc...

I like the game. Good story with deep and political background. Story game is enjoyable. Is not a GTA V, but it should not be expected. I appreciate straightforward story rather than doing 200 missions and getting a short argument.

i should admit that mafia 2 was better than mafia 3 in every aspect(my score to II is 10/10) but mafia 3 isn't that bad a lot people are claiming it is. it has a very good story (not as good as mafia 2 but better than GTA V)
good gameplay, and good musics but the missions are a little repetitive and graphics isn't good enough for a mafia game.
i think this game could be the best game

i think this game could be the best game ever if they made it like mafia 2 but add some side missions and activities to do in the city (like racing, fighting, mini games, etc)

    verdict:
    + excellent story and characters
    + good musics
    + good car driving
    + nice city design

    - repetitive missions
    - pc optimization is extremely bad i can't get any frames more than 30 with gtx 970 and high settings.
    - bugs, bugs everywhere
    - a huge step back from mafia 2
    - no realism like mafia 1 and 2, no car customisation, no cloth store,no barbershop, no motorcycles

*IF YOU HAVE PLAYED MAFIA 2, I SUGGEST YOU PLAY MAFIA 3 TOO IT'S NOT BAD.

Mafia III is a good game. I would have given it an 8, but I'm bumping it to 9 due to all the unjustified hate-talk around here.

First thing first: 30FPS lock was fixed within 48h. Yes, it shouldn't have been shipped like that. But the alternative would have been a delay of a month - you people don't know what it's like to break a code freeze. I bought the game before the patch and

I bought the game before the patch and enjoyed it just as much as I'm enjoying it now.

Onwards. AI is poorly done. The game just isn't challenging. HOWEVER, I'm in it for the story. If I wanted a challenge I'd play Dark Souls. GTA V wasn't more challenging, but it definitely was MUCH less interesting. Mafia III captures the atmosphere of the late 60s wonderfully, and the black perspective is terrific. The story is very, very well done. Boss fights are incredible, with attention to details and a lot of depth. Spot on.

The soundtrack is amazing. Much like Fallout 4, I know I'll be playing the game much after the campaign just because I'll enjoy driving around picking commie propaganda while listening to the radio. Terrific. I wish it didn't stop when I left the car, lol.

All in all: 3.2 is a joke. It's a score given by cry-babies who never participated in creating a game. This game is amount the 4-5 best games since 2015, period. It's much better than short-as-hell GTA V, that's for sure. Do yourself a favor and check it out. This game deserves a score of 8.5, not a 3.2.

Mafia 3 is a good game to be honest, but unfortunately, theres a lack in the game

    -So many bug and glitch
-more likely to crash during gameplay
    -repetitive mission

overall mafia is okay, for those who want story instead long term free roam game or destroy everything lies.

Yes, the 30 fps cap was indeed frustrating for PC players, we are pretty sensible about our fps, but writing a bad critic of a whole game based only on this issue is counterproductive. It was a bad decision from 2K, and they paid for it, ok, next!

The graphics are good, but not incredible, really not a "2016 graphics" game, but close. I mean, theres a lot of work to do about the general optimization of the game and fix the low textures issue. But it will be fixed like always. No guys, it´s not an AC: Unity and Batman Arkham Knight all over again.

The gameplay is good when you are on foot, but driving, well, not so good, not GTA V good. I would say an average between Watch Dogs being terrible and GTA V being amazing. But very playable nonetheless. The AI is not that bright, truth be said.

What is good? Well, the story is amazing, very rich plot with great characters. The soundtrack is also very good as it was to be expected given the time period. The map is very rich in details and full of landmarks.

Some minor details also deserve a mention, like when the police is called in a black neighbourhood and the police doesn´t show at all, or takes forever to get there. Or like when you are on a white area and NPCs will give you all kinds of bad looks and offensive comments.

This "it´s not a Mafia game because it´s not the italian mob" or "it doesn´t feel like a Mafia game" complaint is not fair at all. I mean, everybody knew that this installment would not be centered around the italian mob, so why the heck did you buy the game?! Didn´t you know the protagonist was black? Didn´t you know that only sicilians can become made men? Or worse, didn´t you all know that there are many other race/ethnic based criminal organizations? Serious, guys, don´t be haters!

Well, could 2K and Hangar 13 have done a better job for the PC port? Yes! But i´ve seen worse. Faaaar worse.

If you don´t fell like buying the game now, wait for a Steam sale, but do play it someday. It´s very good.

I have played the previous mafia games and loved them to death. Both previous titles had a heavy emphasis on story and free-roaming took the back seat. In this new installment, they push up free roam to a close 2nd place and does so fairly well.

Many people like to compare this game to the GTA series, simply because it has become the hallmark of sand-box games. You wont, however, find as much to do in free roam in mafia III as in the GTA games, but what they have added is very positively adding to the game overall.

As in previous mafia titles mafia III´s main focus in on telling a great story and i can tell you right now that it is one fantastic story. Characters are deep and the stories are impacting and entertaining. The game play itself is fun, there are a few repetitive missions throughout but they few and far apart. Physics are spot on, and especially the guns have a hefty feel to them. Technical troubles aside (pre-patch) the game runs smoothly, with some pleasing visuals and a fantastic audio backdrop.

    A highly recommended from me.

    Mafia 3
    A perfect example of unawareness.
Mafia 3 is sort of a sequel to mafia 2 in that its main character Vito makes a return, but sadly only as a throwaway... the star this time is a half black Vietnam veteran named Lincoln clay, his race is important to mention due to the fact the game takes place in the mid to late 1960s, and in the south at that in a fictional new Orleans.. so

The first few hours of this game does a great job of bringing the era and time period to life just as greatly as mafia 2 did…
The world felt alive, hearing npcs on the sidewalks talk about martin Luther king jr, James earl ray, john F Kennedy… and the soundtrack in this game is just as perfect as mafia 2s soundtrack was…
And there are a few nice touches to the game like the radio getting staticy when you drive through tunnels…
And then the game cracks and becomes what it’s not and was never intended to be… A generic open world liberation game…
Mafia 3 feels like an Assassins Creed game and ironically suffers from the same thing recent ac games have suffered from…
Mafia has never been about its open world… It’s been about being a time machine... it’s why I loved mafia 2 and it’s why I loved most of the assassin’s creed games… Mafia 2 brought you back in time to live in a world that felt foreign… it made me feel nostalgic for a time period I didn’t even get to live through... it had me listening to music from the 40s and 50s in my everyday life and it immersed me into an epic experience because there was so much love, care, and detail inside of every main mission and the world around you… It all felt hand crafted…
Mafia 3 shifted its focus from being an experience to being a video game the moment it opens up…
And this is where its cracks start to show
The game structure is the same throughout… You’re tasked with doing monetary damage to a quote unquote business… each business is different but despite this you do same thing over and over and over for 20 hours… interrogate a target.. They tell you where the product is... you destroy the product, kill some targets, and get an underboss to come out from hiding...kill him… rinse and repeat...
Once an underboss is killed you can give that section of the city to one of your underbosses for an added perk, careful to keep all 3 happy so they don’t turn on you…
You have to do this Twice to get the main boss to come out… and this mission to kill the top boss in each city’s section are the greatest moments in the entire game.. so many epic and memorable levels to experience here… and the fact that they make up less than half of the game is completely unacceptable…
This doing damage to bring out the underbosses and killing them to bring out the boss is a great idea
I have no issue with this formula being used from start to finish.. what I do take issue is the fact that the structure of these missions dont change…
Every last mission should be as fleshed out as the kill whoever missions… which again are great points in the game…
But especially after experiencing witcher 3.. there’s no excuse for your main missions in an open world to not even have half the heart witchers side mission do let alone its campaign missions…
Sure make me do damage to bring them out, but make each mini boss its own hand crafted experience and story like the main bosses are.. Especially considering they’re required for story progression…
They feel like rinse and repeat liberation points throughout...
If that means the story goes from 20 hours to 12, I’m happy...
a 12 hour masterpiece is worth more to me than 20 hours of the same thing beat by beat…
The actual gameplay itself I felt is a bit unbalanced and inconsistent…
The guns in this game took far too long to reload for the amount of enemies you had to deal with.. sure you can call in for help during missions, but it hardly ever mattered…
You’d constantly get surrounded so cover didn’t matter, even if it did the cover system was super awkward leading you to pop right up trying to switch from cover to cover….enemies felt like bullet sponges, so you’d run out of a clip while dealing with 3 or 4 at a time and while you reloaded it would be over for you…
Even on the games easiest difficulty I felt it was too easy to die considering the circumstances..
And for some reason the main target in these missions takes damage like a tank…throwing the feel of the entire game away every time you encounter one…
You could also stealth around and take out enemies ninja style if you’d like…
Since you do have a voodoo doll to distract enemies and you can whistle to bring them towards you 1 at a time…
The outside world is a bit of a letdown too, as cops hardly feel like a threat at all.. More like ornaments…
And you have to constantly deal with citizens running to call the copy every time you hop in a car like watch dogs but worse...
And they call them unrealistically fast as do the goons calling for back up….
An extreme annoyance that I can kill someone before they say a word and it’s too late.. Reinforcements are here or cops are on their way…
And honestly other than cut scenes or the occasional gunman dropping the n word... I felt like just another white protagonist as no one on the street treated me any different... which was odd considering you do deal with the city’s presence of racism later on in the game…
But the racism seems to only be reserved for missions, failing to ultimately bring the world to life..
I feel like those few missions would have been more impactful if I actually got to feel what it was like to be in the shoes of an African American during the mid-60s.. As I’m sure it was far more and far worse than just being called the n word every now and then and only if you were a mobster destroying drugs and shooting places up……
That being said... mafia 3 still has its moments of greatness…
The cut scenes, the characters, the sound tract… and the missions the developers actually tried at, all ultimately make this game worth plaything through…
    I Give Mafia 3
    an 8.0/10

The locales and architecture are diverse, the story is very interesting (more so than GTA V in my opinion), and the driving (especially in simulation mode) is much, much better than the driving in GTA V -- cars feel heavy and you can drift and fishtale around corners -- think DRIVER for PSone. I was not alive in the 60s, but I appreciate that the developers were able to create an experience that is evocative of an equally magical and dangerous era. As most open world games take place in the present day, they lose the fantasy element that this game has going in its favor. Also, even locked at 30 frames, it looks incredible and plays just fine on a capable PC. If you have the capability to play at 60 fps with the setting bumped up, it looks better than GTA V in my opinion. Expand

The story is good the first 3 hours, just long enough for you to override the 2h refund limit on steam. After the first 3 hours, comes 20 hours of endless repetative fetch quests and killing everyone quests. You can divide those 20 hours in 3 parts:
    1. Take over this place and kill everyone there
    2. Follow and kill him/her, if he enters a car, kill him through a car chase 3. Burn down

One of the most disappointing games of all time. Incredible location, time period, music, cars, atmosphere, political and racial undertones. All for nothing as the story is beyond repetitive. Mafia 3 had everything going for it. Unfortunately, it only got the Story and Gameplay right.

I might have been 40% in the game, but my urge to pick it up and play just to shoot some heads in or circle around an area dismantling the opposing team only gave so much satisfaction. Overall great concept, as usual, but the execution was far under par.

Maybe I could have grinded the first half out, as i hear the game picks back up toward the end, but there are far too many games out there with attention to the player satisfaction and who put game experience as a top priority. Those are the games I'll put this one down to play.

I give MAFIA III 7 out of 10 only because of the lack of optimization in certain points like cutscens and when walking inside apartements where you can a ton of screan tearing. Also in some areas where the are lots of trees and shadows the fps would drop down to 40 for no reason at all. Also I spent so much time trying to fix the controller keys since they were not mapped at all. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. actually not a bad game....what i don't like is the narrative of the game, which is fragmented by too many copy and paste missions. that wouldn't be a thumbs down, BUT
Plot stopping bug, after the mission Kill Tommy Marcano...... and that february 2022.

As someone who really liked the predecessors of Mafia 3, I must say, this game brings shame to the family, and let me tell you why.

Now the music and atmosphere were great in this game, it was all fitting and set the mood well, so as far as the mafia franchise goes, you can see resemblances here.

But then there was the state the game was in at release, which was truly despicable! How they could even do that wrong to such a degree is still an unanswered question to me!

So should you buy it, probably not! Unless you don't care about wasting time in repetitive missions and truly like the atmosphere of the game to such a degree that you're willing to buy it.

I think it’s an enjoyable game, but after a couple hours, it becomes repetitive and a bit boring. The graphics are somewhere nice, somewhere ugly. Overall I still had a couple of good moments while playing this game, but they are really rare. Don't play this game, only if you are bored. Expand

This is not an acceptable game for 2016. The amount of glitches, repetitiveness, and lack of other missions, and jobs to do after you complete the story is poor. Mafia 3 tried hard to bring back the Mafia series, but it crashed and burned. I had so much hope for this game, but it turned out to be another No Man's Sky of 2016.

This is what happens when you give a good game series to a different developer who has no idea on how to make proper video games. I had so high hopes for this game, but I was let down once again by the gaming industry.

This game is so awful. When I decided to play on PC, it was because I have a choice. I could choose my hardware, my software, my resolution, my framerate, and my graphics, but what Hangar 13 did is unacceptable. They locked the game to 30FPS, and their reason for that is: "The team has been hard at work ensuring that Mafia III’s performance is consistent across all platforms, and right now the game runs at a solid 30 frames-per-second."

That's the most **** I have ever heard in one sentence. Mafia III for PC is a console port. The game has so many problems when it comes to reflections, lighting, and no SLI support. The antialiasing just blurs the game to make the edges look better, the PC controls are horrendous, and the game is being upscaled from 720p. It's so damn hard to focus on the story aspect when the screen is tearing, the graphics are glitching out, things pop in at ridiculous distance, but wait, they are releasing a patch to make the game run over 60FPS, and fix the issues. Too late, you already screwed up the game's launch, and what you have done will not be forgotten. They did release the patch to unlock the framerate, but since they never optimized the game good, it still runs like **** This was my birthday present, and it's the worst **** birthday present I have ever gotten. Hangar 13 didn't deliver on their promise on putting time, and effort into their PC version. You had 5 **** years to sort all this **** out, but you didn't. Nice job Hangar 13, you made a sequel to Mafia II worse.

    Don't buy this game.

Mafia III isn’t necessarily a bad game, but it is definitely not a true heir to the Mafia series. The story is rich and the gameplay is satisfying (although it’s nothing special), but having played the previous games in the series (especially the first one), I never felt like I was playing a Mafia game.

The story and characters are excellent and the game is enjoyable, but the open world detracts from the experience rather than adding to it.
