    Bought this game, turned out to be a perversion and a short touch in no match from the original.
    The free city is dead completely.
    Mafia-3 is much better.

    No, no, no... This is a fast, very fast-made game that doesn't have a game shell and a live world inside. A stupid modified and shortened plot from the original game, as a mockery and insult to players who appreciate the real original story.

    I have played all MAFIA games before but this game is just AMAZING, i loved the gameplay, the story is actually the best one i have seen in any game, driving is kind of weird but there is nothing else that is really wrong with this game (besides the usual bugs that may or may not occur) .

    Very fast short story, where there is no 40% of what was in the original. Hey, why are the doors at the train station closed? It **** looks terrible and I can't even ride the train like it was in the original. In strongly fake game we were tricked again kkk... ))

    One of the best looking games with the absolute worst gameplay. The "open world" aspect is just a very pretty loading screen for you to go mission to mission.
    and No trams, no trains.
    Just wanted to say it as I enjoyed the original one back in the days and yes, I liked this feature a lot, I moved mostly by train.     This game is like a linear movie and nothing more. The original 2002 is a million times better! Free walk an empty deceptive world without access to even a train , tram, your home and other objects!

    A very short game, stripped down in many places from the original. It's a linear game and nothing more. Not a step to the side, but as in the scenario of the path that you are told. There is no game city in Freeride, nothing is available, just a deceptive game background. I couldn't even follow the people into the tram, and the train stations are all locked OMG

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Extreme lagging and blurred graphics at my Ryzen 5 4600H and GTX 1660Ti. GeForce Experience cannot detect the game and all this pisses me off. Instead of making three of such lousy games the developers should have made one good remake of Mafia part 1 and it should be open world...Oh god I just wasted my 8$ on Epic for this game.… Expand

    A short cut of more than 50% of the plot from the original game! Highly linear and there is no game in the open world, without access even to the train and tram, all locations are locked. This is the creator of this remake moron!

    This is a movie without freedom of choice. This can't be a mafia title like the full remake edition! This is a cheap game for a couple of days to disappoint compared to the great original . There is no free city of the game, passenger transport and train are not available! This game sucks!
    From this development team everything is worse every disappointment on their games....

Moreover, the game is truncated and has no free city game, no ability to use the locations of the city, streetcars, trains, buildings, houses in free mode.     yeah the game left me wanting more. the fact that the open world was restricted to a separate play with nothing to do in it was a huge letdown.
    Yeah, it was very disappointing. They changed WAY to much. Too many story points have been altered, and too many things from the original game left out.

    The world is nice, but its 'empty' with really nothing to do in it...

    Was it worth it that in the world of advanced computer technologies, to make such a masterpiece so bad that it causes outrage, and this remake was done without any desire at all. The original was made professionally with a soul and is far superior to this pathetic piece of garbage.

    My condolences to these developers.

    It must be so careless attitude to the creation of the game, and even under the name Remake, that to release such a wreck, in which all the lines and scenes from the original were cut, where there is no free world game and all the locations are dead. It's not even a game, it's a game movie about nothing. Very disappointed in this lewd attitude !

    definitely the worst of the mafia games. the game looks nice, and has SOME good voice acting, but a good amount of the voice acting is pretty bad. the combat system is awful, and the cover system barely works. driving feels downright terrible. balance of the game is just bad, it's not worth spending any money on really.

    It's just a parody of a feature film, but not a game like the original of 2002 and it doesn't look like it. Next, a 40% cut-out game where there is not much as in the original, well, an empty world without interaction and the metro-train gates are locked on a chain without access, and of course **** always happens at this game studio.
    This was no doubt expected as a piece of something empty.....

    The name of the game is fake! This is not the final edition. This is a straight-forward mini-story story on rails. There should not be Freeride in this form as it looks now. Then it would be a justified purchase with truthful information about the game and its creation.

    In this situation, I was just directly deceived)

    This edition as DEFINITIVE EDITION, has a false name. Everything interesting has been cut from the main game. The chapter in the port was killed off as a piece not resembling the scenario of that first one at all! The city is dead, getting on the streetcar or subway train is not possible, which was glorious in part 1. In general it is a piece of not finished alpha version and abandoned as it is.

    As always, the 2K game studio has NOT finalized the game to the ideal of its playability in all respects. The story is cut off in many ways, freeride is an empty not accessible city just as a picture. **** for a year not one update in favor of the players..
    in 2002, this game was made many times better, in relation to this **** today..

Я выжимаю максимум, никуда не врезаюсь, но времени всё равно не хватает, а иногда на дороге настоящий затор, видимо трафик для этой миссии прописать не додумались и отдали всё на волю случая!(здесь я удалил к собачьим пиписькам это "шедевр")

    This is a slap in the face for Mafia fans out there...This is just an overtutorialized basic and bad cover shooter, a shell of a game...The cast with all the new voices are just horrid and bland...I felt this game was parody of the original, no immersion anywhere.
    Here is a quick summer up :
    No public transport. Can't ride train or tram. Can't even enter platforms.     Here is a quick summer up :

    No public transport. Can't ride train or tram. Can't even enter platforms.

    Animations are ridiculously fast---to the point of looking comical. Mafia 1 was the opposite.

    No gun shops, nor any restaurants to eat for health. Nothing to do or interact with in the world.

    Looks, feels and runs like Mafia 3.

    No interactive gas stations with clerk.

    Can't sit in car and turn off engine. Can't exit car with engine running. Can't turn on lights.

    No turn signals on any vehicles.

    Tommy shares many of the exact same animations of Lincoln from Mafia 3.

    Driving missions are hand-held and heavily rely on scripted cutscene action events.

    No buildings are enterable outside of missions.

    NPCs don't respond to you on street, and if they do its with one word.

    Many cars missing from the original.

    Tommy has been rewritten to be a cocky d-bag, complete opposite manners to Mafia 1.

    Same LOD issues on distant objects like buildings and vehicles like Mafia 3.

    Terrible AI.

    Graphics look similar to Mafia 2 with brightness turned up. "Amazing graphics" is hyperbole.

    Pop-in galore, to the point of cars and trains popping in in front of you.

    Textures are generally low resolution even on maxed settings.

    Atrociously poor lighting, the game will fade between odd shades of white, green and blue.

    Simulation driving mode is akin to a regular arcade driving mode.

    No realistic suicide doors on cars like Mafia 1.

    No car tuning options like Mafia 2.

    Poor damage model on cars, smash into wall at full speed does nothing.

    Can't open bonnet to repair car like in Mafia 2.
    Majority of music from the original is missing including all Mills Brothers and Belleville. Terrible gun play. No world interactivity like turning on lights, faucets, flushing toilets etc. Lack of bullet detail like entry holes on car tires. Bugs, glitches and generally poor quality control of the map. No spoilers, but the game ends with a rap song. I'll let that one speak for itself. Can't disable basic features like HUD, health bar or mini map. No money system, can't buy anything. "Tommy is not a trained soldier" was a lie. Avoid this blasphemy at all costs !    … Expand

What I saw in a free game is a world where there is nothing to interact with the player. However, I am still a bit disappointed. As I find, it can't quite reach the original game because of ommission of content and details. Maybe there will be DLC's so ideally buy it later and/or in sale.

    On the details, the upsides and the downsides in no particular order and with no guarantee of completeness:

    * Trams and Trains cannot be used anymore. This removes a unique detail of the game and with it some free ride fun. Actually, this is mayor.

    * Cars handle great and the ability to drive in manual was kept. This is good to see :)

    * Police alert and wanted system needs work. Police spawns only in predefined places, but when wanted, they spawn more or less next to you within SECONDS.

    * There is still a free ride mode. No money system, but you have all cars and SOME weapons available. Grenades, Molotovs and the sniper rile are NOT! This removes major sources of fun and mayhem..

    * East Marshal Bridge no longer gets pulled up in Free Ride mode.

    * The graphics are state of the art and quite beautiful! The lighting gets pretty bad in some cases however: Light bleeding in shadowy areas, water-like reflections where there shouldn't be any, and dark light transitions are way over the top. But it's fine most of the time.

    * The story and characters were given a bit more depth. For the most part, this was well done!

    * The missions got a bit easier and quite linear, but in contrast to the original, certain missions can be done partial or full stealth. There is also a cover system for whoever needs it. They took however the ability to shoot while crouched, which is weird. The Lucas Bertone missions got removed and cars are unlocked by progression instead of Ralph.

    * The free ride extreme missions are included in free ride, but reduced in numbers. Added were a number of collectibles throughout the missions and free ride.    … Expand

    One of the most and Rarest features that mafia 1 had was car fuels. Every cars in that game had fuel meter and they would running out by driving them . you could go to the gas stations and the Gas guy would came and refuel your cars which was very interesting. Also if bullets penetrated to your gas pump , it would make a hole and fuels could go empty faster .

    Urban Metro and Air Metro were two public transportations which you could enter them and transfer between city places . now in the remake Dev's closed their doors.

    In classic game when you had allies on your side like Pauli and Sam , They Had Health Bar just like you . they could die if they took bullets and even you could shoot them and reduce their health or even kill them. This feature made the game much harder and you needed to careful and watch your allies back too. they removed this feature in remake.

    Now I'm amazed how blind connoisseurs And especially the critics, put this game a positive score!? This game is difficult to call the game 2020 BEFORE the masterpieces of those past years from 2002 - compare and now evaluate on the actual component!    … Expand

    This is a flawed version of the game spoiled from the original and is short-cut. Freeride has nothing to play with in town for fun. Not a successful game from the Mafia series :(

    The story is greatly shortened from the original version of 2000!
    But more I'm upset that the world of the game is not playable, there are no trains and tram cars of those that were playable in the same original version, and I was hoping for a more game world in Freeride.

    If this game is put on straight line tracks, that I do not even have a choice in the action, but just press the keys and look the cutscene. That's why in a free walk the whole world of the game is locked up where 10 minutes of play are already disgusting, damn you would have taken over the 2020 game like a piece of s-h-i-tttt.

    No, it's a bad job to create a game like a cheap doll that needs to be sold to make money.
    If you want a real Mafia then know its 2002 edition as the original.

    From the updated game expected more - received less than in the classic version of 2002. Walk, silent city, with no sense of play and interactivity in it.
    Didn't expect such a terrible job from Hangar 13.

    Can't appreciate this game. This empty game has nothing inside the game world, but only video scenes and clumsy control. The story was also disfigured that they had no right to do so, not an exact gnarled copy from the original version, if it is The Definitive Edition.
    There's nothing new about the content, it's just everything's screwed up.

    This game studio does not know how to rightfully make and copy games from the Mafia series.

    This game is dope. Man, this remake just changed the whole game atmosphera. The history break you heart deeply. Mafia II DE didn't make this great difference for me as Mafia I did.

    This is a full-fledged, honest to God remake. Some changes to the story will upset hardcore fans, but I think this approach is absolutely justified. Even though this remake is not as amazing as new versions of Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy 7, it’s still a worthy update.

    The main difference between the remake and the original game is that the latter was outstanding for its time, while the Definitive Edition is “merely” good. Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s not worth your time. What’s crucial here is the fact that Hangar 13 approached the original’s narrative with proper respect and refrained from changing it too much. Mafia: Definitive Edition might not be remarkable as an open-world action game, but it still has the story worthy of the most revered gangster movies. [12/2020, p.28]

    Mafia: Definitive Edition is a remake of mixed flavours. Some elements are just as they used to be, and it's great. Some elements are just as they used to be, and it's awful. Mixture of aged mechanics and amazing graphics, new voices, great old story and some added, yet bad storylines, make it not such a perfect remake. But it sure is worth your time, whether you are a fan of the original or not. The moral of the story survived in all its glory, just be sure to focus your attention to the details where Mafia used to and still shines the most.
