    Engagingly atmospheric Mafia oozes 20's charm but eye candy does not make up for some conspicuous shortcomings.

    Game physics are a real headache. Movement, weapons handling and vehicles are clumsy and awkward. Regrettably, this is also one of those horribly linear games that makes you do things in a sequence.     Its a shame I can't rate this title highly but at the end of the day game play is everything and this one, for me, is lacking in that respect.

    Like most of the reviews I'll happily admit that the world of Lost Heaven is a pretty one and the voice acting and storyline are good, however there's just not enough here to warrant the 10/10 reviews I keep seeing.

    With 10 hour playthrough time, totally linear mission structure, total lack of side missions etc, this is really does feel like a dated game wearing a shiny new coat. I    Like most of the reviews I'll happily admit that the world of Lost Heaven is a pretty one and the voice acting and storyline are good, however there's just not enough here to warrant the 10/10 reviews I keep seeing.

    I enjoyed it, but that's half the problem, it feels like a hugely missed opportunity. I really wanted to immerse myself in the world, but with clunky driving physics, sloppy aiming, dire combat options, it just never let me become part of the world.

    Even if they'd crowbarred in some of the open world bits of Mafia 3 into it I could've enjoyed it a whole lot more. If you loved the original then it's fine for for the sake of nostalgia, but don't be fooled by the 10/10 reviews, it's still an old game at its bones and it shows.

    Hopefully we see a more fully developed Mafia game down the line but this one leaves you with the feeling that you got on the wrong side of a corporate cash grab.    … Expand

    Unrealistic physics, definitely worse gameplay than the original game had (in 18 years, that’s something to say), NPCs just keep running/shooting when you shoot in them. Stupid hitboxes.

    Acting is good, changes in story sequences are a nice touch.

    I was looking forward to being able to mess around on trains and expected them to be fully included considering there was a brief view of the interior of a train in one of the trailers.
    So sad they didn't bring this mechanic to the definitive edition... I really liked that and it made the immersion much deeper. Not only they butchered the characters' traits, but also don't let me ride public transport. In the original game I once even escaped a crime scene on a tram. Anyway, Thanks.    … Expand

    You can't even go into buildings, train,trams or such that in the story were all fully rendered and in the game... the plot scenario does not allow you to move away from it not a step to the side... free ride is a dead world... ohh...

    Hello, I really wish the game was open world the only good thing about the game is the graphics and new actors and character models and of course the missions gave me so much memories but Tbh we all know this game is a huge letdown as you literally cannot do anything except from missions.

    I did a job as a taxi driver but this pointless trip did not bring me income money in the game and there is no monetary system in the game that it does not make sense to play.

There are no possible deviations from the plot to the game world. The free game mode is a dead city is not available in it, the train stations are locked with a terrifying view of them without use.     Compré este juego con descuento, inicialmente no me gustaron las críticas y que este no es un juego completo, sino escenas con una versión simplificada y ligera de la trama.     Un gioco breve combinato con filmati e scarso controllo delle armi e sparatorie in stile arcade. Mi aspettavo un grande gioco esteso, ma ho ottenuto un piccolo pezzo e la libertà di un mondo vuoto freeride...

However, I am still a bit disappointed. As I find, it can't quite reach the original game because of ommission of content and details. Maybe there will be DLC's so ideally buy it later and/or in sale.

    On the details, the upsides and the downsides in no particular order and with no guarantee of completeness:

    * Trams and Trains cannot be used anymore. This removes a unique detail of the game and with it some free ride fun. Actually, this is mayor.

    * Cars handle great and the ability to drive in manual was kept. This is good to see :)

    * Police alert and wanted system needs work. Police spawns only in predefined places, but when wanted, they spawn more or less next to you within SECONDS.

    * There is still a free ride mode. No money system, but you have all cars and SOME weapons available. Grenades, Molotovs and the sniper rile are NOT! This removes major sources of fun and mayhem..

    * East Marshal Bridge no longer gets pulled up in Free Ride mode.

    * The graphics are state of the art and quite beautiful! The lighting gets pretty bad in some cases however: Light bleeding in shadowy areas, water-like reflections where there shouldn't be any, and dark light transitions are way over the top. But it's fine most of the time.

    * The story and characters were given a bit more depth. For the most part, this was well done!

    * The missions got a bit easier and quite linear, but in contrast to the original, certain missions can be done partial or full stealth. There is also a cover system for whoever needs it. They took however the ability to shoot while crouched, which is weird. The Lucas Bertone missions got removed and cars are unlocked by progression instead of Ralph.

    * The free ride extreme missions are included in free ride, but reduced in numbers. Added were a number of collectibles throughout the missions and free ride.    … Expand

    Non-existent ragdolls.
    Going in and out of the cover system is painful.
    Facial animations stuck on AI models when killed.
    Vehicle physics are somewhere between one of the worse GTA and Saint's Row.
    Early push removed some game features (i.e trains)

    Don't expect a good game, play it once for the story and never again.

The DE got rid of almost all the small things that made the original such a favorite to its fans- the side missions, the balance and difficulty of fighting the AI, tram/train for players, the original soundtracks, even the character arc of Tommy.If you've played the original Mafia 1, and are hoping that the "Definitive Edition"would be an improvement on that, you'd be disappointed.     Trim the original, turning it into a much more boring game.

    If you want nostalgia - it is better to play the original.
    It's a DE game of shaming that doesn't cause anything but surprise how much those who did it in general didn't care about the final product and the joys of the players.

    As it stands, Mafia Definitive Edition I do not think it is worth the $40 price tag or even a $30 price tag. Unfortunately,If you can snag this game for $20 or under, I think it is worth it but as is, there are certainly better games at a $40 price point or even lower you could be sinking your time into.

    I find this remake to be much weaker quality than the original Mafia release. the colors are yellowish,
    the outside of town was a delight to drive through, beautiful scenery and colors, now it's very blunt

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Extreme lagging and blurred graphics at my Ryzen 5 4600H and GTX 1660Ti. GeForce Experience cannot detect the game and all this pisses me off. Instead of making three of such lousy games the developers should have made one good remake of Mafia part 1 and it should be open world...Oh god I just wasted my 8$ on Epic for this game.… Expand

Side mission with Luca are gone, Ralphie practically gives us 2-3 cars the entire game. There is no free time in between the missions, it's like introduction, fast forward to action, some shooting and then boom, next mission. No side talks with Sam and Paulie, just jumping from action to action.

    In the original we were feeling the world development, as the years passed, the cars got better and you could really feel that changes in the city. Here there is practically no difference at all, not that it matters as there is not a chance to even know the city, if the mission allows driving the target is usually really close.

    So the story/characters were ready, all the devs had to was refresh the graphics and maybe even add something new to the story, but no, let's shorten the story and change it and don't even think about adding some content... If you wanted to write new story just create a new game, oh whoops, I forgot you made one, Mafia III which was utterly booring (at least the music was fine there).

    To sum up, this game is not worth the money. The graphic is good, but all else, just not worth it, and if you are a fan of the original, it's painful to play this game knowing how they ruined such good story.

    I'm pretty sure I will play original game many times again (already did like 4 times) but I doubt I will ever play definitive edition again...    … Expand

    I played and finished the game anyhow but It was a disaster I kept hoping later on the game at least story would get better.

Разрабам надо было то всего лишь перенести первую часть на допиленное двигло третьей части и добавить нового контента к уже имеющемуся. Но они всё только испортили. Я после этого высера за 2000 рублей, запустил первую часть и просто кайфанул. Графика да, не конкурентДумал переплюнет первую часть... Но нет. Я себя прям заставлял играть, но после гонки просто надоело. Ну не то это всё.     The original Mafia (2002) was THE 'perfect' PC game and in many ways still is; it combined fine simulation and physics elements in both the gunplay and driving - being derived / tweaked from the fantastic 'hidden and dangerous' engine. Driving - you could even use an FFB wheel accurately, perform true drifts, clutch oversteer, liftoff oversteer, countersteer, handbreaking. The AI, being again from a milsim was robust. I could go on at length here.... but lets just end with this thought;

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Mafia 3: Tommy Angelo DLC. Let's get into the positive things:
    -Lost Heaven looks great.
    -Some sounds are good.
    -The cut scenes are good.

    Now let me explain why is a 10/10 game:
    -Lost Heaven people are suffering brain damage, the AI lost Tommy if he's over a box, they also run to random spots and some times friendly AI doesn't shoot.
    -They do a good effort with the random people fighting animation on the street, but you open doors with your mind faster than a bullet. Also the melee animation is awful, you always elude with the same animation whether the enemy has a knife or a baseball bat.
    -People is cover in oil, because when it's raining, they ain't wet at all, unless they are in a cut scene 'cause there is where we draw the line.
    -Gunplay is great, you can get in cover like in Gears of War, throw grenades like in Gears of War, don't recognize when you are low in health like in GoW and run raising hell to the enemy like in Gears of War. Sadly you ain't playing Gears of War and Tommy ain't a trained soldier. Also, death animations are taken from Hentai Hitler.
    -There is a stealth gameplay, sadly for this Mafia 3 DLC , they didn't change the horrible stealth system from the original mafia 3. Tommy is cover in lethal poison, 'cause hugging someone from behind it's immediately dead.
    -There is a simulation driving option, sadly you are simulating the arcade driving, because those options are the same.

    Something good about this remake/dlc is the rewriting they did to the story, because Tommy Angelo in the original was a **** with feelings and all that **** luckily they changed that. Spoilers ahead. In the Corleone Hotel mission, Tommy is sent to kill the manager and a girl. In the original, Tommy understand that the girl did nothing wrong and is all Salieris guys fault, so he let she alive. In this version, Sam explain to you why you shouldn't kill the girl 'cause Hangar 13 know you are stupid enough to don't get it.
    That's not all the rewriting they did, there is also the Frank mission, in the original, Tommy kill people until he get to Frank and understand that kill that guy isn't a good idea 'cause he was your friend and all that sentimental stuff. In this version they just look at each other, Tommy was about to shoot but Hangar 13 remember that Tommy let him alive, so Frank get in the plane (Also the plane looks uglier than the plane in the original). Then the Canadian mission, 3 guys in a truck against half the cops and a **** TANK, spoilers Tommy wins (I think they saw some random mission in GTA and copy past it). The Morello's brother mission, the one that every one remembers from the original, the long shooting at the port, the mind blowing thing with the train and how Tommy understand that every one that live by the sword, die by the sword. TOO MUCH THINKING LET'S MAKE TOMMY DRIVE A BIKE (Also, the bike riding is awful, feels like you are moving a wheelchair, and they don't have any kind of ragdoll, so when you fall off, they just rotate tommy 270° and make him get up. With that said, let's continue) WHILE MORELLO'S MAN SHOOT AT HIM AND THEN YOUR FRIENDS CRASH A CAR BUT YOU CONTINUE AND WHEN MORELLO'S BROTHER GET IN THE PORT TOMMY **** SLIDE OUT THE BIKE WHILE SHOOT. HE WAS A **** CAB DRIVER, WHAT A **** IS WRONG WITH HANGAR 13. You solve a easy shooting and the game tells you move a lever, so a train crashes a random door and you get that there is where morello's brother is. Tommy follows him to a place full of explosive barrels, Tommy laughs and throw a zippo to him so everything should explode and kill both. But Hangar 13 pays to the fire to don't blow the hole thing up until Tommy get to a save area, THE END. The kill Morello mission is even worst, things happen, you shoot a plane down, and that happen, the plane get's down. In this version Hangar 13 pays gravity to make the plane cross to a random spot in the other side of the town so Tommy can kill the Morello in the middle of the street ???????. To realize how much they don't get the original just let me tell you this, at the end they show you how Vito and Joe kill Tommy, also they change Joe face for third time, then they show you how the family cry over Tommy's chest and all that sentimental **** AND END UP WITH A **** RAP SONG, A GAME BASED IN THE OLD DAYS 30', RAP, 30' RAP.
    The sad thing about this is that the already use the bullet of remake, so we lost the opportunity to see the Tommy Angelo story in some solid and complete game. That was so sad, HANGAR 13 plays sad rap song.

    * No public transport, can't ride train or tram, can't even enter platforms. * No money system, can't buy anything. * Animations are ridiculously fast, to the point of looking comical.     * Terrible AI.
    * Pop-in galore, to the point of cars and trains popping in right in front of you.
    * Textures are generally low resolution even on maxed settings. Heavy dithering.
    * Sounds are generally weaker in quality than Mafia 1. Lack of environmental audio.
    * Atrociously poor lighting, the game will fade between odd shades of white, yellow and blue.
    * Lucas Bertone missions missing from story mode.
    * Fake pretense that tries to squeeze out the "coolness" of the characters to sound modern.
    * In terms of city environment, you see the same buildings over and over again. Copy-paste.
    * Countryside is dead without any npcs. Arcady magic burning barrels that serve no purpose.
    * Cars missing from the original.
    * No ability to play as taxi driver or kill gangsters in free ride. No gangsters driving around.
    * Simulation driving mode is akin to a regular arcade driving mode, realistic physics are gone.
    * No realistic suicide doors on cars like Mafia 1.
    * No car tuning options like Mafia 2.
    * Poor damage model on cars, smash into wall at full speed does nothing.
    * The slow, methodical gameplay of Mafia 1 that increased difficulty and immersion is gone.
    * Can't open bonnet to repair car like in Mafia 2.
    * Lockpicking minigame dumbed down.
    * Majority of music from the original is missing including all Mills Brothers and Belleville.
    * Terrible gun play and cover system. Really, beyond parody.
    * No world interactivity like turning on lights, faucets, flushing toilets etc.
    * Intrusive toddler level waypoint markers telling you what to do and where to go at all times.
    * Lack of bullet detail like entry holes on car tires.
    * Bridges don't rise dynamically in freeride like in Mafia 1, they are "dead".
    * No dynamic day night cycle in freeride, it wasn't in Mafia 1, but standard for games today.

    This is 2002 vr 2020 game

    All these positive likes plus a twisted artificial image of the indicator! Not one self respecting gamer after analyzing everything WILL not put a finger on the top of this remake

    That is a lot of negative sentiment one might say. But the amount of positive reviews not even touching on the disconnect between what Hangar 13 marketed this to be and what it actually delivers honestly makes me worried for where this industry is going and I can't help to wonder about the thought process and motives behind of all these flawless masterpiece 10/10 reviews.

    For a newcomer, sure, this game might be fun for a couple of hours, albeit a pretty expensive fun. If you played the original, it is little more than a hollow shell. Moreover it is the literal definition of false advertising by Hangar 13 and 2K.    … Expand

    One of the most and Rarest features that mafia 1 had was car fuels. Every cars in that game had fuel meter and they would running out by driving them . you could go to the gas stations and the Gas guy would came and refuel your cars which was very interesting. Also if bullets penetrated to your gas pump , it would make a hole and fuels could go empty faster .

    Urban Metro and Air Metro were two public transportations which you could enter them and transfer between city places . now in the remake Dev's closed their doors.

    In classic game when you had allies on your side like Pauli and Sam , They Had Health Bar just like you . they could die if they took bullets and even you could shoot them and reduce their health or even kill them. This feature made the game much harder and you needed to careful and watch your allies back too. they removed this feature in remake.

    Now I'm amazed how blind connoisseurs And especially the critics, put this game a positive score!? This game is difficult to call the game 2020 BEFORE the masterpieces of those past years from 2002 - compare and now evaluate on the actual component!    … Expand

    Nearly all of the iconic missions that made this game so enjoyable have been changed to the worse: The airport mission Omerta with Frank is unrecognisable, the port mission - Lucky Bastard - is crippled to a point... its **** the prison mission - election campaign - is an easy peasy run through. Tram with train not to use. Summa summarum all the iconic missions of the original Mafia are there but they are empty, streamlined, shells.

    Probably the worst part is that the Lucas Bertone missions fully disappeared, and Yellow Pete - the secret gunshop - too. Tommy being able to arm himself up to the teeth before driving to the museum shoot out was probably the peak of the entire game (!) cause the game didnt tell you that!

    In short, this game is a total disappointment . Buy the original one, get some grapfic mods and enjoy the true and only Mafia game there ever was.

    Ну а что не так-то? Создалось впечатление, что почти всё не так. Вместо того, чтобы проанализировать и оставить все, за что так любили первую Мафию, ее главные изюминки просто выковыряли, вставили дешевые аркадные приемчики, а атмосферу просто убили. Нужно умудриться запороть возможность сделать шикарный римейк на шикарный оригинал.

    - "Большая прогулка" и "Прогулка" теперь один режим, причем вы больше не найдете те безумные миссии с анлоками необычных машин - большинство просто убрали. Вместо большой прогулки - суррогат в виде парочки миссий, в качестве награды можете открыть, например костюм клоуна или золотой Томми-ган

    Общее:

    - Нормальный прицел - извольте "целиться" через огромный кружок. Кто там знает толк в извращениях?
    - Нельзя точно целиться из машины (есть автоприцел-липучка, который будет за вас фиксироваться на целой машине).
    - Почти все светофоры, но парочку оставили
    - Возможность прокатиться на трамвае / надземке. Что примечательно, боты не лишены такой возможности, но вот к поезду вы даже близко не подойдете, т.к. ворота на все станциях перевязаны цепью с замком. Забавно видеть, как боты там запертые стоят наверху.
    - Остановить / Завести двигатель
    - Здравый смысл. Пешеходы могут почти мгновенно позвать копов из ниоткуда - в Америке 30х годов без сотовых.

    - Синдром

    Не могу сдержаться и не съязвить еще раз о "современных стандартах" .. знаете что нас ждет после окончания сюжета? Журнальчики, вкладыши и лисички, Карл! Они разбросаны по всей карте, иди и собери их всех, покемон ты наш. Зачем? Для ачивки. lol

    I laugh at the publisher that could not properly copy the original version, that only everything was reduced to a minimum (in exchange to expand the gameplay) and the free city for a walk made it dead completely meaningless for the game. I was very sorry and I will not buy any more games from this company.

    yeah the game left me wanting more. the fact that the open world was restricted to a separate play with nothing to do in it was a huge letdown.
    Yeah, it was very disappointing. They changed WAY to much. Too many story points have been altered, and too many things from the original game left out.

    The world is nice, but its 'empty' with really nothing to do in it...

    definitely the worst of the mafia games. the game looks nice, and has SOME good voice acting, but a good amount of the voice acting is pretty bad. the combat system is awful, and the cover system barely works. driving feels downright terrible. balance of the game is just bad, it's not worth spending any money on really.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is not Mafia. This is some weird reboot/re-imagining that has completely butchered what made the original so great. Characters are unrecognizable. Tommy went from a conflicted, understated man caught up in something he wasn't quite sure of, to some stereotypical thug. Paulie now sounds like a sesame street character. Their relationship was the heart of the story, and now it's gone. You don't care about anyone. Sam's motivations no longer make any sense due to some truly bizarre rewrites. On the subject of rewrites, all the original subtlety of the game is gone. It's all been transformed into cheesy one-liners, and chest thumping machismo.

    The game looks good, not great. The lighting is awesome, but other than that it's not that impressive. The shooting is AWFUL, enemies are braindead, and on and on. Entire missions have been cut from the game, it took me under 9 hours to beat, and others have been changed dramatically, and not for better.

    For example, SPOILERS, there's a mission where you have to shoot down an airplane as it's taking off. In the original, you did this, and it crashed. In this game however, the plane doesn't crash right away, you have to pursue it as it flies flaming through the air across the city until it crashes. You then spout off a one-liner before executing the near dead target with your pistol. This is indicative of the change in tone. Tommy is now a coldblooded action hero. It's dumb, it's Hollywood blockbuster dumb.

    I was really looking forward to this, but Hanger 13 seems to have assumed they could just make the game look pretty, and call it Mafia hoping the majority of people who buy it never played the original. If you have played the original you're going to be disappointed. I actually redownloaded the 2002 game, and am having infinitely more fun playing that than this hollow shell of a game.    … Expand

    Didn't think it was such a petty hoax to work on this legendary game that looks awfully stupid.
    This is an animated film of great videos and a simple game mechanization game.
    The world of the game is only the scenery of the city and there is no communication with the city as a whole, it is created quickly as a background picture in general, but the game mechanism is absent in general.     Can't appreciate this game. This empty game has nothing inside the game world, but only video scenes and clumsy control. The story was also disfigured that they had no right to do so, not an exact gnarled copy from the original version, if it is The Definitive Edition.
    There's nothing new about the content, it's just everything's screwed up.

    Really waited for an update for the New Year 2021, but realized one thing:
    The developer just picked up and copied the not-quite-good way the original 2002 game. Made it not accurately and clumsily, the missions are shortened and cut in a rough way, even less than it was in the original version, there is no interaction of the tram with the train for the game.     Do not spoil your mood and play the original from 2002 better.
    This game studio does not know how to rightfully make and copy games from the Mafia series.

    For 2020-21, this game is humiliatingly funny and not perfect and a mockery of the original version of 2002, which is better in many ways. As well as mocking the community of players !

    This story ran through, did not see in it a detailed story, as it happened in the original 2000s.
    Walking in Freeride, I was upset to the limit where there is no game in this world, but only a small third-party 8 missions and damn why, Burton car mechanic in one abbreviated scene of all alone.
    Game **** Browser games are better than this crap!
    Series of games Mafia, fell to the bottom ...

    You screwed up the original's moral with this cliche family **** that comes from Mafia III. Family family blah blah blah...

    This is a full-fledged, honest to God remake. Some changes to the story will upset hardcore fans, but I think this approach is absolutely justified. Even though this remake is not as amazing as new versions of Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy 7, it’s still a worthy update.

    The main difference between the remake and the original game is that the latter was outstanding for its time, while the Definitive Edition is “merely” good. Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s not worth your time. What’s crucial here is the fact that Hangar 13 approached the original’s narrative with proper respect and refrained from changing it too much. Mafia: Definitive Edition might not be remarkable as an open-world action game, but it still has the story worthy of the most revered gangster movies. [12/2020, p.28]

    Mafia: Definitive Edition is a remake of mixed flavours. Some elements are just as they used to be, and it's great. Some elements are just as they used to be, and it's awful. Mixture of aged mechanics and amazing graphics, new voices, great old story and some added, yet bad storylines, make it not such a perfect remake. But it sure is worth your time, whether you are a fan of the original or not. The moral of the story survived in all its glory, just be sure to focus your attention to the details where Mafia used to and still shines the most.
