    This game is dope. Man, this remake just changed the whole game atmosphera. The history break you heart deeply. Mafia II DE didn't make this great difference for me as Mafia I did.

    The shortest and most stripped-down story is just a spit from the original. All locations are closed, I can't go by tram or metro. A free game as a piece of a background picture without access to the locations of the game does not make sense. The chapter in the port is disfigured beyond recognition. The developer is proud of this **** seriously!?

    The original mafia wasn't about killing people all the time. At this rate, you'd genocide the whole town.
    Or a dumb chase after every mission. They raped the whole point of the game. They ruined the driving model. They make you shoot all the time, but the combat is terrible. Stealth is boring. That's how you screw up a legend.

    This is a slap in the face for Mafia fans out there...This is just an overtutorialized basic and bad cover shooter, a shell of a game...The cast with all the new voices are just horrid and bland...I felt this game was parody of the original, no immersion anywhere.
    Here is a quick summer up :
    No public transport. Can't ride train or tram. Can't even enter platforms.     Here is a quick summer up :

    No public transport. Can't ride train or tram. Can't even enter platforms.

    Animations are ridiculously fast---to the point of looking comical. Mafia 1 was the opposite.

    No gun shops, nor any restaurants to eat for health. Nothing to do or interact with in the world.

    Looks, feels and runs like Mafia 3.

    No interactive gas stations with clerk.

    Can't sit in car and turn off engine. Can't exit car with engine running. Can't turn on lights.

    No turn signals on any vehicles.

    Tommy shares many of the exact same animations of Lincoln from Mafia 3.

    Driving missions are hand-held and heavily rely on scripted cutscene action events.

    No buildings are enterable outside of missions.

    NPCs don't respond to you on street, and if they do its with one word.

    Many cars missing from the original.

    Tommy has been rewritten to be a cocky d-bag, complete opposite manners to Mafia 1.

    Same LOD issues on distant objects like buildings and vehicles like Mafia 3.

    Terrible AI.

    Graphics look similar to Mafia 2 with brightness turned up. "Amazing graphics" is hyperbole.

    Pop-in galore, to the point of cars and trains popping in in front of you.

    Textures are generally low resolution even on maxed settings.

    Atrociously poor lighting, the game will fade between odd shades of white, green and blue.

    Simulation driving mode is akin to a regular arcade driving mode.

    No realistic suicide doors on cars like Mafia 1.

    No car tuning options like Mafia 2.

    Poor damage model on cars, smash into wall at full speed does nothing.

    Can't open bonnet to repair car like in Mafia 2.
    Majority of music from the original is missing including all Mills Brothers and Belleville. Terrible gun play. No world interactivity like turning on lights, faucets, flushing toilets etc. Lack of bullet detail like entry holes on car tires. Bugs, glitches and generally poor quality control of the map. No spoilers, but the game ends with a rap song. I'll let that one speak for itself. Can't disable basic features like HUD, health bar or mini map. No money system, can't buy anything. "Tommy is not a trained soldier" was a lie. Avoid this blasphemy at all costs !    … Expand

    This game was made incomplete in everything! Just a linear short story, not completely from the original version, but just messed up everything. There is not even a patch and add-ons for so much time. I do not advise you to spoil your impressions, But rather play the original version!

    One patch for the entire time the game was released without improvements. The game is cropped beyond recognition. The free walk is dead, everything is locked around.

Я выжимаю максимум, никуда не врезаюсь, но времени всё равно не хватает, а иногда на дороге настоящий затор, видимо трафик для этой миссии прописать не додумались и отдали всё на волю случая!(здесь я удалил к собачьим пиписькам это "шедевр")
    Графика здесь- ну такое себе. Если повезет с оптимизацией, конечно.У меня при первом включении что-то пошло не так и ловил жутчайшие фризы, изменение настроек не помогало-пришлось переустановить и всё заработало(но осадочек, как говорится, остался и я начал думать о возврате).    … Expand

    To begin with, releasing games that aren't ready means defeating the game as a whole. I bought a product called the Definitive Edition, complete with a free-to-play open-world city mode. What I saw in fact was a shortened game from the original version by 40% less! The free mode didn't even give me what the original game had.     This game, as the definitive edition, does not live up to that title. The game's story is simplistic as hell. There aren't the moments of scenes that I was expecting from the game. Freeride ride is dead and doesn't even have what the original story had, all the objects and trains are not available for the player to use.

    As always, the 2K game studio has NOT finalized the game to the ideal of its playability in all respects. The story is cut off in many ways, freeride is an empty not accessible city just as a picture. **** for a year not one update in favor of the players..
    in 2002, this game was made many times better, in relation to this **** today..

    I did not expect that bought the game after a year, it nebylo not a single update. The story is greatly reduced, in the free ride can not use the famous streetcar and train, as it was in the 1st original game. This game is not finished until the finale and apparently it was abandoned without refinement.

    This edition as DEFINITIVE EDITION, has a false name. Everything interesting has been cut from the main game. The chapter in the port was killed off as a piece not resembling the scenario of that first one at all! The city is dead, getting on the streetcar or subway train is not possible, which was glorious in part 1. In general it is a piece of not finished alpha version and abandoned as it is.

    I KNEW I should have just played the OG Mafia, rather than waste time on this Trilogy..The only good game is the one they mostly left alone.
    This is a mid remake of a game that was a true masterpice..The Story, driving and characters are still great , but the game is jenky and gameplay system are just broken and un fun...And wtf is with the woman is this Studios games, they are so fkn    I KNEW I should have just played the OG Mafia, rather than waste time on this Trilogy..The only good game is the one they mostly left alone.

    definitely the worst of the mafia games. the game looks nice, and has SOME good voice acting, but a good amount of the voice acting is pretty bad. the combat system is awful, and the cover system barely works. driving feels downright terrible. balance of the game is just bad, it's not worth spending any money on really.

    The name of the game is fake! This is not the final edition. This is a straight-forward mini-story story on rails. There should not be Freeride in this form as it looks now. Then it would be a justified purchase with truthful information about the game and its creation.

    Crap happens, but it happened with the so-called DEFINITIVE EDITION of the MAFIA game! Not self-respecting Hangar-13 at least would understand what makes the history of the MAFIA game and just made a CASTRATED puppy. What a laziness in this work, there are no patches, you can only expect from experienced modders, maybe they, like the 2nd mafia, will also revive the game.

    * Horrid LODs on distant objects like buildings and vehicles.
    * Terrible AI.

    * Sounds are generally weaker in quality than Mafia's. Lack of environmental audio. Guns sound like water guns.
    * Poor missions in Freeride Extreme that go further to unfold the crucial weaknesses of the core gameplay - the gunplay, the driving physics and the car damage model.
    * Magical concrete bushes in the countryside as an excuse to limit the ingame world.
    * No ability to kill gangsters in free ride. No gangsters driving around. No day/night cycle and money in the freeride. No ability to set the traffic and police density for the freeride.
    * Poor 1930s drift simulator. Cars of the 1930s feel like cars of the future. Mafia is ain't no Need For Speed.
    * Poor damage model on cars, smash into a wall at full speed does nothing. Cars don't bend into any shape like they did 18 years ago.
    * Devs-liars claimed this will feature an expanded story, but this game is shorter than Mafia II.
    * On classic difficulty, reload of pump-action rifles, rifles and revolvers make you lose unused ammo in the clip against any sense.
    * Soundtrack sounds like Woody Woodpecker OST. Really, beyond parody.
    * Terrible gunplay and cover system. Instead of a recoil, bullets are flying angled to the gun barrel like in CS:GO. You can't hit anyone.
    * The total absence of any bullet holes makes it even more impossible to analyze the bullet dispersion. Also, shells and clips aren't on the ground like they were 18 years ago.
    * Enemies don't stun when they suffer damage. They keep moving to cover when wounded in a leg.
    * Bullet wounds don't break off hostile melee attacks, not even for armless foes.
    * Intrusive toddler level waypoint markers telling you what to do and where to go at all times.
    * Outright horrible physics. When in the air, cars barely roll around the axises.    … Expand

    I didn't think that after a year, the game was never finished. Not introduced a unit of currency money, not expanded the story (as made it short not complete) no interaction in freeride.
    We all Mafia fans just got screwed for our money.

    It's just a parody of a feature film, but not a game like the original of 2002 and it doesn't look like it. Next, a 40% cut-out game where there is not much as in the original, well, an empty world without interaction and the metro-train gates are locked on a chain without access, and of course **** always happens at this game studio.
    This was no doubt expected as a piece of something empty.....

    This is not a game, much less a remake! These are cutscenes with a short straightforward plot, cut out and not complete according to the original game and an empty dead world without interactions with it. I'm shocked by this scam!

    Was it worth it that in the world of advanced computer technologies, to make such a masterpiece so bad that it causes outrage, and this remake was done without any desire at all. The original was made professionally with a soul and is far superior to this pathetic piece of garbage.

    My condolences to these developers.

    yeah the game left me wanting more. the fact that the open world was restricted to a separate play with nothing to do in it was a huge letdown.
    Yeah, it was very disappointing. They changed WAY to much. Too many story points have been altered, and too many things from the original game left out.

    The world is nice, but its 'empty' with really nothing to do in it...

Side mission with Luca are gone, Ralphie practically gives us 2-3 cars the entire game. There is no free time in between the missions, it's like introduction, fast forward to action, some shooting and then boom, next mission. No side talks with Sam and Paulie, just jumping from action to action.

    In the original we were feeling the world development, as the years passed, the cars got better and you could really feel that changes in the city. Here there is practically no difference at all, not that it matters as there is not a chance to even know the city, if the mission allows driving the target is usually really close.

    So the story/characters were ready, all the devs had to was refresh the graphics and maybe even add something new to the story, but no, let's shorten the story and change it and don't even think about adding some content... If you wanted to write new story just create a new game, oh whoops, I forgot you made one, Mafia III which was utterly booring (at least the music was fine there).

    I'm just being redundant but Freeride is not free. You can do nothing, you can't save stolen cars in the garage, and side missions are gone, except for one or 2. Completely disappointed.

Tram with train not to use. Summa summarum all the iconic missions of the original Mafia are there but they are empty, streamlined, shells.

    Probably the worst part is that the Lucas Bertone missions fully disappeared, and Yellow Pete - the secret gunshop - too. Tommy being able to arm himself up to the teeth before driving to the museum shoot out was probably the peak of the entire game (!) cause the game didnt tell you that!

    In short, this game is a total disappointment . Buy the original one, get some grapfic mods and enjoy the true and only Mafia game there ever was.

    I have never met this more nasty game from the Mafia series created in 2020.
    Deaf world of the game, empty, transient linear abbreviated plot in a disfigured form.
    Developer - you have the right to do this and disfigure the story from the original !?

The control scheme is a button-mashing nightmare, and it seems like every new release in this series removes more and more of what made the previous ones fun. The music sucks, just a badly rendered version of 30's-type instrumentals, and the voice acting is a ham-handed farce of gangster stereotypes at best.

    If they would have simply stuck with Mafia 2-style gameplay and added the time period and very good graphics improvements they actually did get right here, they would have hit it out of the park . . .but this sadly misses at every turn, sad really, it could have been so much better . . .

    If you've played the original Mafia 1, and are hoping that the "Definitive Edition"would be an improvement on that, you'd be disappointed. The DE got rid of almost all the small things that made the original such a favorite to its fans- the side missions, the balance and difficulty of fighting the AI, tram/train for players, the original soundtracks, even the character arc of Tommy.If you've played the original Mafia 1, and are hoping that the "Definitive Edition"would be an improvement on that, you'd be disappointed.     I laugh at the publisher that could not properly copy the original version, that only everything was reduced to a minimum (in exchange to expand the gameplay) and the free city for a walk made it dead completely meaningless for the game. I was very sorry and I will not buy any more games from this company.

    Cheap copy of the original game.
    Fight/Gunfight is a joke.
    Driving is a joke.
    Missions are very short.
    They keept somehow the storyline plot straight.
    Game graphic looks good.

    This is travesty, distortion vr original version game.
    Non-existent ragdolls.
    Going in and out of the cover system is painful.
    Facial animations stuck on AI models when killed.
    Vehicle physics are somewhere between one of the worse GTA and Saint's Row.
    Early push removed some game features (i.e trains)

    Don't expect a good game, play it once for the story and never again.

    The Free City of Freeride has nothing to play with. All facilities are closed and there is no way to use trams and elevated metro for movement.

    This is a full-fledged, honest to God remake. Some changes to the story will upset hardcore fans, but I think this approach is absolutely justified. Even though this remake is not as amazing as new versions of Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy 7, it’s still a worthy update.

    The main difference between the remake and the original game is that the latter was outstanding for its time, while the Definitive Edition is “merely” good. Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s not worth your time. What’s crucial here is the fact that Hangar 13 approached the original’s narrative with proper respect and refrained from changing it too much. Mafia: Definitive Edition might not be remarkable as an open-world action game, but it still has the story worthy of the most revered gangster movies. [12/2020, p.28]

    Mafia: Definitive Edition is a remake of mixed flavours. Some elements are just as they used to be, and it's great. Some elements are just as they used to be, and it's awful. Mixture of aged mechanics and amazing graphics, new voices, great old story and some added, yet bad storylines, make it not such a perfect remake. But it sure is worth your time, whether you are a fan of the original or not. The moral of the story survived in all its glory, just be sure to focus your attention to the details where Mafia used to and still shines the most.
