Aug 24, 2019An interesting concept, and the game starts out well enough but quickly becomes a frustrating, glitchy mess. The controls are irritating and level design is pretty poor, e.g. dark rooms full of instant death lava where you can't see anything. And if you happen to die in a bad spot, you can't recover your corpse, so all your money is permanently gone.

May 17, 2020The ideas are good, but the realization drags it down. Especially controls, but also environments and level design

Dec 16, 2019As usual, I find myself wanting to like games which just straight up annoy the shit out of me. There are some nice ideas here but I just got too frustrated after a while trying to get past sections which were just so much trickier than others, and required a lot of swapping of powers, and pulling off what amounted to combos of moves I just couldn’t swing with.

Oct 9, 2019Mable and the Wood isn’t a big game, but a person could spend a few hours on it and walk away feeling like they’d spent fifty. Drab, ugly, and at turns borderline unplayable, Mable demonstrates how quickly a good idea can become a bad one when it’s so thoroughly misapplied.

Sep 18, 2019Mable and the Wood is a seductively whimsical fantasy adventure with excellent graphics, music and a lot of good ideas, but for the moment it is held back by balance and technical problems.
