Eight months after hope for humanity was destroyed...

Nini, the protagonist who lost his home and family to the ancient calamity known as the "Kegai," arrives at the peaceful countryside town of Ashiharanakatsu to stay with his mother's relatives.

In this town where everyday life and the extraordinary intertwine, Nini's radiant and stressful summer begins.

LOOP8 is a juvenile RPG in which you live your "everyday life" and fight "the extraordinary." Live a summer all your own while forging relationships with the people around you, while fighting calamities known as "Kegai."

The game's unique emotional artificial intelligence, the "Maturity System," controls all aspects of the game's progress, and the character's emotions and stories are constantly shifting. Each "choice" you make influences the game's world, offering a different experience every time you play.

Thwarting disaster through the cultivation of social bonds is a promising idea, as Makoto Shinkai and the Persona series have demonstrated. While Loop8: Summer of Gods transports port us to rural Japan, circa 1983, it does little with either the context or concept. The result is an unsatisfying time cycle that delivers few role-playing rewards and few characters worthy of truly caring about.

The very worst offense of it all is that normally, when a game is bad, I would have to suffer through it once and get to move on. In the case of Loop8, it forced me to experience the same exact terrible content over and over again by its very design, breeding a sense of resentment towards a game I haven’t felt in a very long time.

A Beautifully Recreated Japanese Town Fades in Repetition!ヽ(´• ω •`)、

    [1] Intro :
Loop8 Summer of Gods is a game that holds great promise but ultimately falls short of delivering a truly engaging experience. The game presents a unique blend of gameplay styles and ideas, set in a beautifully recreated rural Japanese town in the 1980s. However, the repetitive nature of the gameplay and the lack of variety in dialogue make the overall experience quite tedious.

    [2] Game Experience :

One of the standout aspects of Loop8 is its visual presentation. The game features picturesque landscapes that successfully capture the nostalgic atmosphere of a Japanese town. The attention to detail is commendable, although there are some noticeable omissions, such as the absence of certain sounds like birdsong and waves crashing. The voice acting, on the other hand, is excellent and adds depth to the characters.

Unfortunately, the gameplay loop quickly becomes monotonous. The battles lack depth and variety, with only bosses offering any real challenge. The combat system feels simplistic, and the lack of control over party members can lead to frustrating outcomes. In addition, the majority of the game involves increasing stats and engaging in repetitive dialogue interactions, which feels more like a status simulator than a meaningful narrative experience.

Speaking of the narrative, Loop8 introduces intriguing concepts and mysteries but fails to provide satisfactory explanations or depth. The story remains superficial, leaving players with a vague understanding of the conflicts and the protagonist's role as a godfighter. The characters themselves, while having unique backstories, lack meaningful conversations, and interactions are primarily focused on improving relationship values rather than engaging in substantive dialogue.

The time loop mechanic, which should have been a fascinating aspect of the game, only adds to the sense of monotony. Each loop resets not only progress but also relationships and character values, with only minor permanent upgrades available. This results in repetitive gameplay, replaying the same events and interactions over and over again.

Despite its flaws, Loop8 does have its strengths. The art style and attention to detail in capturing the essence of a Japanese village in summer are commendable. The emotional-driven AI system that responds to player actions and decisions is an interesting feature that adds replay value, ensuring each playthrough feels unique.

    [3] Verdict :
In conclusion, while Loop8 Summer of Gods has its strengths in terms of visuals, voice acting, and some intriguing concepts, it falls short in delivering a truly captivating and enjoyable gaming experience. The tedious gameplay loop, lack of narrative depth, and repetitive interactions make it difficult to recommend purchasing the game at full price. However, considering its unique setting and potential for nostalgic charm, Loop8 could be worth considering when it's on sale, allowing players to experience its beautiful visuals and explore the emotional-driven AI system without feeling too burdened by its shortcomings. With a discounted price, players may find some enjoyment in the picturesque world of Ashihara and the coming-of-age RPG elements, but it's important to be aware of the game's limitations and repetitive nature before making a purchase.
