Little Nightmares 3 upholds its franchise’s place at the top of the genre, being tense, engaging, and deeply immersive with its macabre worldbuilding. The addition of co-op is a great addition to the series, while remaining an excellent solo experience, should you choose to play it that way.

Little Nightmares III, without being overshadowed by its predecessors, offers a unique experience for both series fans and new players by adding new elements to its proven formula and successfully integrating them.

With its atmosphere, the story it tells (and the one it leaves untold but makes you feel), its characters, puzzles, and many other details, this game carries the very DNA of the Little Nightmares series. Had the developers dared to step a bit further beyond safe waters, it could have been a much better game. Still, it gives us plenty of reasons to look to the future of the series with confidence.

If not for some of the problems I encountered, Little Nightmares 3 would be a rock solid continuation of the franchise from Supermassive Games. While it doesn’t quite hit the narrative and atmospheric highs of Little Nightmares 2, it brings in some smart new ideas, two player co-operative play and makes for another wonderfully sickening time in Nowhere. It’s just a shame it was such a frustrating journey.

Little Nightmares III is a solid addition to the series, as it offers more scares and thrilling chase sequences. It could use some refinement to its systems, but Supermassive Games made for a smooth transition for the 3D puzzle platformer.

Little Nightmares III is a darkly beautiful follow-up that captures the series’ eerie charm but plays it too safe, offering an experience that feels more familiar than frightening.

Little Nightmares 3 presents gameplay and location design that mimics the style of its predecessors, while maintaining none of the depth or exploration that the horror genre champions so effectively. Till now, Tarsier Studios has steered the Little Nightmares games through caricatural horror to plumb the depths of those life-sized fears. But now Supermassive Games has taken the wheel, and the proverbial ship has veered frighteningly off-course into shallow waters.
