Little Nightmares 3 upholds its franchise’s place at the top of the genre, being tense, engaging, and deeply immersive with its macabre worldbuilding. The addition of co-op is a great addition to the series, while remaining an excellent solo experience, should you choose to play it that way.

A moody return to a world shaped by childhood nightmares. Although the pacing occasionally dips due to less imaginative puzzles and some repetitive design choices, the experience still delivers an unsettling, wordless kind of storytelling that gets under the skin. It offers exactly what long-time fans of the series expect: another dark fable unafraid to be uncomfortable, both in themes and the way it plays.

With its atmosphere, the story it tells (and the one it leaves untold but makes you feel), its characters, puzzles, and many other details, this game carries the very DNA of the Little Nightmares series. Had the developers dared to step a bit further beyond safe waters, it could have been a much better game. Still, it gives us plenty of reasons to look to the future of the series with confidence.

This is the third time we have visited a world that could be described as cute, magical and romantic. It's not. It's a nightmare. But it's also very attractive and cooperative.

Little Nightmares III, without being overshadowed by its predecessors, offers a unique experience for both series fans and new players by adding new elements to its proven formula and successfully integrating them.

The gaming industry is better off with more atmospheric horror titles like Little Nightmares 3.

A solid sequel that thanks to its co-op mode offers some variety, but still doesn't have the courage to try enough new things.

Little Nightmares 3 is a worthy continuation of the series. It will definitely appeal to horror fans, as well as those who didn't particularly like the previous installments, and those who will play it solely for the co-op mode.

Supermassive Games has maintained the style and atmosphere that the series is known for, and they should be commended for that, but they have also played it safe. Apart from the addition of co-op, there is nothing significantly new in Little Nightmares 3. This may sound reassuring to fans of the series, and if you are one of them, you can safely dive in. But there is a lack of evolution. There is a lack of development in the universe, not because they have to reveal a whole lot, but because it should be expanded more.

While there's undoubtedly some co-op fun, the charm of the original series is lost. With few new ideas in enemy design and puzzles that are far too easy, this installment feels more like a poor copy.

Little Nightmares III is a solid addition to the series, as it offers more scares and thrilling chase sequences. It could use some refinement to its systems, but Supermassive Games made for a smooth transition for the 3D puzzle platformer.

Little Nightmares III is a bit of a mixed bag. One thing is certain, Supermassive Games managed to keep Tarsier's legacy going by creating a sequel worthy of the name. Then again, Supermassive might have played it a bit too safe, resulting in a game that never really wows and occasionally feels like a step back. Little Nightmares III might be right up your alley if you're craving a Little Nightmares experience with online co-op gameplay, but if you're looking for a sequal that finally deals with the nightmarish controls from previous instalments... dream on.

If not for some of the problems I encountered, Little Nightmares 3 would be a rock solid continuation of the franchise from Supermassive Games. While it doesn’t quite hit the narrative and atmospheric highs of Little Nightmares 2, it brings in some smart new ideas, two player co-operative play and makes for another wonderfully sickening time in Nowhere. It’s just a shame it was such a frustrating journey.

Little Nightmares 3 adds a welcome online cooperative mode and some freshly bizarre environments, but the series' formula is becoming a little staid.

Little Nightmares III is a darkly beautiful follow-up that captures the series’ eerie charm but plays it too safe, offering an experience that feels more familiar than frightening.

Little Nightmares III is a shadow of what this series once was. Despite the atmospheric visuals and solid technical performance, the signature tension, mystery, and symbolic storytelling that defined the previous entries are gone. Under Supermassive Games, the franchise loses its identity, trading dread for dullness, and ambiguity for predictability. The lack of meaningful horror, uninspired environments, and a forgettable story make this sequel feel lifeless. It’s not terrifying; it’s just hollow.

Puzzles could've been harder, and the game helps the player more than necessary. Still, Little Nightmares 3 is a solid experience, honoring the creepy and oppressive atmosphere that was cultivated in the first two games, making old fans feel at home in this new story.

Supermassive's decision to play it safe means too many familiar frustrations, but impressive artistry – and a mid-game uptick – makes for a grimly compelling adventure all the same.

Little Nightmares 3 remains an audiovisually impressive dark fairy tale — rich in atmosphere but lacking in innovation. The co-op mode adds real value, yet it can’t disguise that the series is treading water in terms of gameplay.

Little Nightmares 3 is fine, but I’d be lying if I said it lived up to the series's namesake or managed to take it anywhere worthwhile. Supermassive never quite hits the mark of what made Little Nightmares so distinct and terrifying. Over a disappointingly short runtime, I feel no desire to return for any collectibles, and not one moment has stuck with me. Instead, I’m only left wondering what could have been done better.

Little Nightmares 3 presents gameplay and location design that mimics the style of its predecessors, while maintaining none of the depth or exploration that the horror genre champions so effectively. Till now, Tarsier Studios has steered the Little Nightmares games through caricatural horror to plumb the depths of those life-sized fears. But now Supermassive Games has taken the wheel, and the proverbial ship has veered frighteningly off-course into shallow waters.

  1. Scores are obviously anathema to what we do at RPS, although I'm not so strong a person that I can avoid pointing out that if someone were to show me a picture of original series protagonist Six right now, I'd nod sagely and say "indeed". Again, there's a couple of really inspired scenes and more than a couple of arresting sights here, good enough to drag me from 'meh' to 'oh damn!' a few times. It plays like what it is, really: a cover act. A tribute. A flatpack knock-off of a trendy piece. Good quality. Well built. You could hit it with a wrench and it'd barely shake. Then again, I do have to ask whether it's a good thing that I find myself assessing a game like a piece of furniture.
