The greatest story you will ever play. Going into it, I never would've expected this would become my favorite game published by Square Enix. It's my favorite game, period. Life is Strange is an emotional rollercoaster and treats serious issues with weight and sincerity.

HELLA cool expirience. Chloe's in my heart forever. Visual style and lighting are high. Music too. Controls on PC could be better, but that's a trifle. And also I've noticed some plot holes and I try not to think about it.

    INTRO
I like this game. It starts off as a bit of a walk in the park and stays that way until halfway into the story, but its story is realistic and fresh. I haven't tried any Telltale game yet, but I assume Life is Strange is similar to them.
GAMEPLAY The game has probably been described in detail already by the hundreds of user reviews, so I'll just detail some main takeaways.

    GAMEPLAY
The game has probably been described in detail already by the hundreds of user reviews, so I'll just detail some main takeaways.

For one thing, the game is very short. If you rush through the game (even with lots of exploration), you can certainly complete an episode or two in one sitting (around 1-2 hours).

Being a story-oriented game, you play the role of a high school girl who essentially makes good-or-bad or side-with-whom decisions, and has the power to reverse time. It is a slice of life game in a high school setting with the main themes being bullying and teenage angst.

You are encouraged to reverse any decisions you've made or replay the game from various episodes to find how characters change. Certain decisions are "permanent" and cannot be reversed, even across episodes.

You cannot quickly progress through dialogue*. However, the devs made it so that you can skip lines you've already seen if you've reversed time.

    CLIMAX
Starting from the second half of Episode 4, the drama starts to kick in, and the game becomes more challenging. The decisions you've made throughout the game start to unfold and take direct effect.

The high ratings for the game were probably because of Episodes 4 and 5. The conclusion is tragic and makes your efforts throughout the game worthwhile. They're more challenging, which really tests your ability to rewind time.

The only thing I must advise is: During your first run of Episode 5, I highly suggest choosing the 'left' ending. I won't divulge any more than that.

    ORIGINALITY
This is where the game suffers a little. The gameplay is certainly well done, but it is not an original concept. The time travel/time reversal theme has been used time and time again (haha, puns) throughout tons movies, shows and games.

The story is very original though, since it's not everyday that you find a game with a story about teenagers in school who are dealing with bullying and trying to help people deal with their daily problems. It's a breath of fresh air from all the action games and open world games that come out these days.

    SUMMARY
One of my friends told me that the game was a lot more compelling when the episodes were released one by one and people were discussing about how their decisions would affect the MC in subsequent episodes.

Alas, I purchased the game as a complete set, so I just played it through without taking time off to ponder the consequences of/discuss about any decisions I made. I probably lost some immersion from the first three episodes because of that.

Anyway, I have to give this game two separate ratings. For Episodes 1-3, I can only give them a 8/10 at best, but for Episodes 4-5, I give them a 9/10. It's a great game overall, and I don't regret spending the time to play it.

This is a worthy game to play if your enjoy getting your beliefs played with.
I have to say that it initially takes some time to become really impressive. the season 1-4 are ok with good hooks, but season 5 and the ending is well worth the trip.

Very recommended if you like slow narrative adventure games that will make you go at the end.

I wonder if you could choose third ending which would be based on all previous decisions you did. For example: if you fulfill exact number of specific choices you will get the best ending. Expand

Life is Strange tells a story about Max and Chloe's journey to finding out the secrets of Rachel, a dear friend of theirs. The game has great graphics, underscores the touching theme of friendship, and the twist is so thrilling it even bests many movies.

This game definitely has its ups and downs. On the one hand it has some issues with its narrative, especially how Max has these visions of a hurricane tearing apart Arcadia Bay yet that never really seems to be a concern for her. On the one hand it has some issues with its narrative, especially how Max has these visions of a hurricane tearing apart Arcadia Bay yet that never really seems to be a concern for her. Also I feel the story of Rachel Amber could have been handled better. The lip syncing was also not perfect, although it was improved upon it still is a little disjointed at times. Also the ending is probably the biggest issue given that all your choices are ultimately pointless as you are given two choices at the end that does not change regardless of your decisions up to that point. For a game that appears to be giving this much weight to your choices and how they impact other characters, it was quite disappointing.
But that being said, the game is really, overall a beautiful game. The art for the game is amazing and I absolutely love the feel that it gives. Also the interaction between characters is really what drives the game. It feels real, and even though I am not a female teenager, I was able to relate to the character of Max. The time travelling aspect, although unexplained did add an extra element to the game that was refreshing and helped make the game feel more like a game rather than a story.
The game focuses heavily on the friendship between Chloe and Max and it helps you build a connection to both these characters unlike any I have previously experienced within a game. The fourth and fifth episodes were the most emotionally challenging experiences that I have ever encountered in a game. I have never cried in a game, movie or television show before yet for this game i genuinely wept. The characters of Chloe and Max were crafted beautifully and you can understand what the writers were trying to achieve throughout the last two episodes which makes the emotional impact very saddening, but it not gratuitous. Although Chloe and Max was certainly the focal point of the narrative, the interactions between other characters made the game more emotionally intense and more relatable.I could keep going on about how beautiful this game is, but I feel like it really does need to be experienced.
I had a difficult decision deciding what to rate this game, because I believe it is truly fantastic and one of my favourite games ever because of the character interaction and the time travel mechanics. This game has an intense emotional impact that really resonated with me, however it does have some glaring. Overall, I recommend this game but with caution because I was feeling the effects of this game months after I had finished it

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sit back and grab some popcorn ladies and gentlemen because I have a lot to say about why I really don't like Life is Strange.
Let's first start out on pros and cons so the retards that like this game can understand.
    Pros and Cons
    Pros:
    Interesting art directions
Interesting attempt at time travel narrative
    Cons:
    The art direction is annoying.
The time travel concept is done horribly.
    The writing is HORRIBLE.
Your choices don't matter IN THE SLIGHTEST
    It isn't a video game

At first, when I played this I thought the writing was satire but apparently, people think this is actually well written. It's realistic, it's how college campus students actually talk, but it's so annoying and unlikeable.

The Time Travel mechanic makes no sense. Why does Max get a nose bleed before Kate kills herself? PLOT. Why does Chloe's death and nothing else that Max does affect everything such as answering the question in the beginning? Also, why does Max get her powers? Why can she suddenly travel through time through pictures? NONE of this is explained.

CHLOE IS A TERRIBLE CHARACTER. She's an annoying histper character that the creators ACTUALLY try to make us care about. If they made her intentionally annoying and we are only supposed to like her because Max likes her and because this is Max's point of view, like a good video game would, then it would be good writing, but this isn't a good video game. It's barely a video game. More on that later. All the characters are trash. Max is bland and uninteresting. Warden is a cuck. Victoria is other there to be the b*tch character and Nathan is other there to hate. Nathan does become kind of good character after he releases he done diddley goofed and Mr. Jefferson is well written though, I will give them that as well.

And the choices, oh the choices. The "game" tries to be a telltale "game" (don't know why you would want to) and gives you "choices" such as WATERING YOUR PLANT. And saving a girl from suicide. A girl that is inconsistent to the plot. The game tries to tell you that these choices matter. You are told this for 4 episodes. Then it becomes clear that you were just lied to and the game takes a massive steamy sh*t on itself and gives you two choices. Two. Save the annoying c*nt Chloe or kill everyone else. This really shows how effortless of an ending it gives you. Plus, the ending where you save Chloe is like 3 minutes long showing they REALLY didn't care
    .
And finally. The game isn't a game. You walk around with an absurdly annoying shoulder camera and collect f*cking bottles and hold down a button to rewind time and then click one of four options to say. That's not a video game.

All around Life is Strange has a few good moments such as the twist that Mr. Jefferson is the killer and there are a few funny moments but that's all hidden behind terrible storytelling and even worse writing. Episode one is free on steam. If you want to check that out and quickly discover how terrible it is. The bathroom scene is honestly what did it for me.

The game is spread up into 5 episodes, and each episode does a great job of leaving you wanting more and feeling like self-contained stories…
You feel like you’ve accomplished everything in each episode.. none felt filler
You do play as a high school senior, and the game does a great job of feeling like you’re a high school girl, dealing with bullies, dealing with students having crushes on you, balancing friendships… and dealing with some pretty heavy emotional situations you’d expect from a bunch of high school kids
if you have a heart, you will cry playing this game, multiple times…
Where things get interesting is the rewind ability…
This is still an adventure game but not a nonsense adventure game…
it’s pretty easy knowing what to do in a situation, though one puzzle in a later episodes gets a little too complicated and slows the game down a bit…
But puzzles are found both in the environment and in dialog…
As you have to make sure you don’t say the wrong thing to someone while trying to get information out of them that you need…
or if you don’t like a reaction they had, you can rewind time and try something else…
As well as outcomes of a few important situations.. The game will indicate that a choice you made will have consequences and you can decide to deal with those consequences or go for a different outcome and deal with tem... but by time you learn what these consequences are, its too late to go back and change... so while I was worried at first.. This makes your decisions and choices still matter in the game…
much like the telltale games, I wasn’t a fan of the sections that I had to walk around and interact with items in the environment…
Most did add to the story…
But a few did annoy and frustrate me and felt like they were there to just drag the game out
10 hours of pure story though... definitely does get exhausting…
so this isn’t really a finish in one sitting kind of game.. especially with the at times poor pacing…
but the story telling here is so good that even if you do get tired you want to keep pushing to see what’s behind the next corner and what twist the game is going to throw at you next…
People have been recommending this game to me since it came out, and I’m glad I finally got around to experiencing it
The gameplay isn’t the best, but the powerful story telling makes Life is Strange a must experience game…
    I give Life is Strange
    an 8.5/10

And it's actually implemented and has a meaning in the actual plot!

The game is full of references to video games and films, the soundtrack is pure bliss and the main character is so easy to connect with that you get so implied in the story.

It has some issues with the story itself, maybe an story a bit more mature would have been more interesting, maybe some events happening are kind of cliche, but i think it compensates well with all its strengths. Definitely worth playing.

The role of storytelling within video games is a popular topic these days. Personally I enjoy a game with a strong narrative as much one that’s all about mindless shooting; there’s room for all manner of games as far as I’m concerned. Dontnod deserve credit for their efforts in this area. In LIFE IS STRANGE they have attempted to create a story-rich experience that requires the player to engage with the narrative and to make moral and ethical judgments and then act upon them. The developers have made much of the fact that the player must make choices, some of which may be difficult to make. So far so good. However, although LIS does have an engaging story, and there are indeed choices to be made, neither aspect of the game quite lives up to the promise. In their (laudable) efforts to cover as many themes as possible (drugs, bullying, domestic violence, et al.) they’ve bitten of more than they can chew and as a result the main story line suffers. The first couple of episodes are somewhat slow and uninvolving due to a lack of focus. Also, during the early stages of the game, many of the tasks required of the player are trivial, and some are pointless, having little or no bearing on the overall story (in fairness to the developers they do acknowledge this fact in ironic fashion towards the end of the game). Not until you reach the midpoint of the game does it really find its stride, and the main story begin to assert itself in the manner required to carry the game forward. There is also the matter of the choices to consider. I won’t explain my misgivings with this aspect of the game because it could be considered a spoiler of sorts. Suffice it to say, if you decide to play LIS (and I recommend that you do) you will probably work out for yourself where the game falls short in this area. Again, in fairness to Dontnod, I can see how the current constraints of the medium might have limited their options, but I still think that this aspect of the game could have been more fully developed. Having said all this I still enjoyed playing LIS and you would have to have a heart of stone not to be affected by it at times. It looks good, and the painterly style of the graphics suits the game well. The voice acting is solid throughout and it has an excellent soundtrack, including a memorably melancholic opening song (To All of You by Syd Matters). LIS may not quite live up to its potential but it’s still a good attempt to make a narrative-rich gaming experience and I would have given it a 4/5 rating were it not for the shortcomings noted here. Oh, and how about a sequel, Dontnod? It would be interesting to see how Max uses her gift in her adult years.

    Pros:
    - Another great episodic graphic adventure but this one provides some little fresh elements. The main one, time travel. Is not as deep as the manipulation of memory Dontnod made on "Remember Me" (2013) but is well implemented for a larger audience.
    - Life is Strange is focused on its story. Is not the classic high school story it has a warmer and different perspective. Sometimes

    - Life is Strange is focused on its story. Is not the classic high school story it has a warmer and different perspective. Sometimes is really sad, sometimes melancholic and sometimes implements humor in little cute doses even joking about hipsters, modern art, films etc...

    - Characters are very interesting and every chapter Max writes in her diary about her relationship with them at the moment. They put a great effort in this aspect.

    - The episodes ending are great! Always right in the feels ;)

    - Technically speaking is not ground breaking but Unreal Engine 3 fit nicely. Is good to see that they approached artistically mixing shaders and not only cel-shaded models like in other franchises. The art, care of details and color palettes are great. The work done with vintage filters, postprocess, chromatic aberration, DOF, bloom is really good! ;)

    - The game is on 7th and 8th gen including PC. Shamefully is not yet confirmed any portable or tablet version (like TWD did with iOS and Android) maybe if the go for UE4 would be able to do that.

    - Gameplay wise mmm is exactly the same as The Walking Dead but you don't use many items. You interact with the environment and mostly you alter the time with your powers to change situations around the characters.

    - It has a bit of replayability because of the collectibles (the pictures to complete your diary) and a few interesting choices during the five episodes. Is not like in the Telltale Games that all roads go to the same place, is not Until Dawn which can give you a few very different results but your choices makes you feel responsible...You'll see.

    - The music and the OST in general is great and very relaxing. Is a game to take your time and be played on late night ;) I saw people rushing through it. Is a shame. that's why it took my almost 30hs to complete. Because even if is a bit linear you it deserves your attention on the work they put on some dialogs and choices (even those choices that doesn't matter at all).

    Cons:
    Not many cons....FOR REALS?
Yes, it worth his price and the time you spend with it 100% ;)

    - I would be great to have a game like this with more difficult puzzles in the future. Nowadays the experience of this kind of games underestimates some kind of gamers to reach wide audiences.

    - I will not enter in spoilers but there're a few gaps that maybe in a next game or a DLC they can "solve".

    - You'll missed to play it like the first time. Is not the same to play the episodes and have to wait than playing it all on a few sits now that is out. So, if you can avoid spoilers on the internet (mostly on our hipster friend Tumblr and deviantART) try to take your time.

    - A few audio glitches on the late episodes. They can be solved easily.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I firstly rated this game a 7/10, but I replayed it and I'm now giving it a 10/10. I'm too tired to write a long review again so here's the short story:

I didn't like this game because of how emotionally dragged I got into it (keep in mind I liked it, but hated the ending), and it probably got something to do with accidentally not saving Kate which I carefully picked dialogue in my second playthrough, but also the fact that I was expecting a happy game.

I didn't come into a game where you play as an 18 year old girl who really likes photography expecting a sad game. But neither did Max, and so i'm raising this games rating, as it shows you simply can't save everybody.

I don't usually play videogames so that's why I'm so late. I really enjoyed this game because I think I've never played something like this. Just best game...
Я не знаю, что ещё можно написать, особенно на английском. Но эта игра действительно стоит тех 21 часов, которые я на неё потратил. Я бы с радостью играл ещё и ещё, но, к сожалению, сюжет закончился.

Life Is Strange is an imperfect video game and the actual mechanics of playing it, including the time rewind, can become annoying of frustrating, especially when the development team tries to borrow from another genre. But the game makes it easy to create a connection with Max and to care about her choices and trials, a rare feat, and that means any fan of narrative-driven experiences should try it out to see how he deals with the feelings of the protagonist and the impact they have on Arcadia Bay.

Life is Strange is flawed, but this paranormal coming-of-age story is nevertheless refreshing proof that small stakes can still feel important, given strong characters.

Life is Strange is a brilliant concept that you will love if you forget prejudices.
