Very few times have I ever been choking back my emotions not once, not twice, but throughout a bulk of the game. The dialogue can be corny, though the acting is top notch, and things can hit you in the gut if you're invested. But then it'll turn around and get you happy all over again.

Very few times have I ever been choking back my emotions not once, not twice, but throughout a bulk of the game. The dialogue can be corny, though the acting is top notch, and things can hit you in the gut if you're invested. But then it'll turn around and get you happy all over again.

At first I had many gripes with the game, but as I went further, episode by episode, suddenly I grew attached to them. The sometimes unnatural slang grew to be my favorite parts of some of the characters. The narcissistic qualities of others were purely understandable and, in a way, something you could relate to one way or another.

The music was easily one of my least favorite parts of the game, mostly because I was prejudicial and wrote it off as 'hipster trash,' but then it too grew to be one of the best parts of the game's atmosphere. It felt genuine, it felt real. In some crazy way, I felt less of an outsider looking in and more inserted into the world.

As I explored the game, episode by episode, I quickly grew attached to the world involved. Soon I cared less and less about getting the right reaction, and instead I focused more on building a relationship (as pathetic as that may sound,) with everyone, no matter how superfluous it may ultimately end up.

Maybe it was the lack of sleep I had the previous night, but something really clicked for me. If it wasn't for the fact I wasn't alone in the house when I finished up episode 5, I more than likely would've cried my eyes out. This would fall under the category of "Things I would never do, under any circumstance" clause of my personality, but somehow Life is Strange broke down that wall and I'm still feeling the effects of the game's ending over 24 hours later.

I doubt I would ever, ever play this game again. But not because I thought it was boring, or lackluster. Instead, it's because of the emotional anguish it brought to me. A bittersweet type of agony, I never want to experience again, but am glad I did. Now excuse me, I have more self loathing to catch up on, because.. reasons.

TL;DR This game emotionally destroyed me, I entirely do not regret playing the game, regardless of my soul being crushed through the myriad ways delivered throughout.

Great artistic choices all over. The story is very well written, the characters have a certain depth and realism you don't see very often, in places the voice acting goes from good to incredible, the soundtrack and graphical style really help create a cohesive aesthetic, and the camera angles, panning shots and overall 'cinematography' are amazing. Some of the scenes are just shining artistic mastery. As a writer, photographer and film student this game speaks to me on many levels.

When the game ended, I left feeling forlorn because I'm so invested in the characters I don't want to say goodbye. I know that feeling can be confused by unsophisticated people (to be quite frank, if pretentious) as an indication of incompleteness or poor writing. There are many people who disagree with the ending, but those people are failing to realize that for all the same reasons they criticize the ending to this game, they may as well criticize the ending to their own real lives. The choices you make don't always lead to the ends you want. Life may not always happen to your satisfaction, nor even the way you expect it to. Life is strange.

This game has been released in a series of episodes. The series meanders a bit but once it makes it past the half way point throughout the series it really picks up, reaching a level of legendary visual storytelling that is rarely realized in videogames. It's well worth your money.

Life is Strange covers a lot of bases. It's an exciting point-and-click adventure game. It's a coming-of-age story about the power of friendship. It's a drama with horror elements. It's science fiction, complete with sci-fi's usual dose of everyday philosophy. It's pretty, funny, sad, and thought-provoking all at the same time.

The music, visuals, characters, and dialogue work together to create a truly beautiful experience which weaves together the power of friendship, the frustration of human evil, and the mystery of fate.

I think that I cried more times while playing Life is Strange than from all other video games I've played combined--it was that moving. I cried when it ended, too--in large part because of the sense of loss associated with the knowledge that I'd never get to experience playing it for the first time ever again.

This is the kind of game that could have the power to change your life. It deals with so many common elements of the human condition, and really makes you think about how your decisions affect yourself and those around you.

It has a great story, and the unique style and setting, and incredible atmosphere, sucked me in from start to finish. I also found the game mechanics more satisifying, and more at the forefront, than in any Telltale games I have played; with more interesting puzzles (although still too easy), and with a greater incentive to explore every nook and cranny and interact with everything you can.

Its been one of the most memorable and enjoyable game I have played in several years, and would warrant a 10/10 in my book, if it wasn't a little rough around the edges.

Probably my main gripe would be that, whilst I found the main story completely mesmerizing and some of the characters are well developed over the entire game, some of dialogue is hilariously cringe-worthy, and pretty much every character is an archetypal chiche. In addition to that, the lip-sync is often pretty bad, and, whilst the main characters are voiced really well, some of the lesser characters aren't great (not helped by the cliched writing). Additionally, whilst I personally loved it, I could see the unique setting being somewhat polarizing.

What it does well, it does insanely well, which was more than enough for the negatives to fade away the more I played.

This is a wonderfully engaging and thoughtful work of narrative art, with characters and events that stay with you long after you've played it. And for the record, I liked the music!

The fetch quest elements are occasionally problematic, but the developers clearly learned their lesson and they get better as the game goes on. The time reversal mechanic is well-implemented.

GRAPHICS: Well done with a painterly aesthetic.

SOUND: Well developed sound effects that enhance the immersion.

SOUNDTRACK: I really enjoyed the soundtrack for this game - very fitting and served to enhance the game and its immersion.

GAME PLAY: Limited at best. Its more an interactive film than a game. As long as you understand that going in, the game play serves to enhance the immersion but is not the center piece of the game. Instead player choice is the central part of the game and it shines.

REPLAY VALUE: Unless you really want to know what happens with every choice you make the game has little replay value.

My only complaint is that there are only 2 endings and your choices throughout the game don't make much difference. Unless they plan to pull a steins;gate and come out with another surprise episode, which would be fantastic.

After a while I was asking myself: why am I doing this? Why am I spending half an hour to beat a boss by stupid button smashing only for a few bits of progress in the story.

They also copy/pasted, with more luck the Telltale recipe in their second game: Life is strange. I really liked this one. Graphically better than the Telltale ones I've played, the characters and the story is great. It is also quite emotional, sometimes a bit cheesy, but never over the top. And I felt more here that my choices actually affect what will happen. That the consequences are not just byways that later join the main road, but actual branchings or ramifications.
I read in some of the reviews that this game is a ripoff of Bioshock Infinite. I don't know what the reviewer was smoking, but it is nothing like BI (for the record: I think Bioshock Infinite is one of the best games ever come out on PC, a milestone in every way). Maybe it is rather close to the Longest Journey.

I could get used to the pointing system relatively fast, though is sometimes not to easy to use it. It would be great if the game would give hints only when I want them and not after a certain time.
One more thing: it would be welcome (for any adventure game or interactive movie) to have the conversations available to read back, as a diary sentence by sentence.
After finishing I felt a bit empty, like after any good movie, book, series and only sometimes, game. The characters felt alive (hope to see them in future games), the story got me, it had a sad undertone, but it made me involved. I'm excited to see what Dontnod releases next time.

Never, have I ever before, been blown away by a story, visuals, and soundtrack, as much as I have here. After finishing it, I just sat there... for hours. Thinking. Wondering. And I also cried like a **** Excuse my language.

    Now, let's list the cons.
-Episode 2 was horrible. There. I said it. So many things that were too damn ridiculous. Not wanting to spoil anything, imagine having to show someone you can do 5 push ups, and then proceed to show how well you can use every singular muscle, required to do push ups, so the other person can see how you should be able to do push ups, WITHOUT ACTUALLY DOING PUSH UPS. Or something else ridiculous (which is not how it went): oh, you have a band aid in your hand? Might as well cut my hand, since you have a band aid. Like, what's with that logic?

Episode 2 made me want to stop playing entirely. I am glad that, after a long time, I continued.
-The puzzles are not that well done. There have been several puzzles where the answer was so dumb that, even though I thought of it at the beginning, it was dumbed down even more that the logic of it was missing. The solution to these problems is actually wrong.
-The main event in one of the episodes is almost an exact copy of a movie. At least it was a good movie.
-it's not clear how some things in the story will unfold. In general that's a good thing, but there is a case where something happens when you do something, but you have no clue there is something like that possible. Either you are just 'lucky' to get to it, or you first need to find out there is something like that by watching youtube.

I can go on, but it will only prevent you from playing. You should ignore these cons and only read my first bit, because... you should just play it.

This is the most emotionally powerful game I've played in a long time. Maybe ever. If you've ever wanted to feel nostalgia for something you haven't experienced, try this out.

This is entertainment that I feel will stay with me for years, like great works of literature or movies - looking back at it, and your life.

Wonderful EXPERIENCE. More than any other game (and most films, for that matter) that I've played/seen in the last decade, Life is Strange pulled me in and kept me engaged through excellent imagery, acting, writing, and a perfectly synchronized, mood-setting soundtrack. Thank You to Square Enix and Dontnod for a job well done.

Life is Strange is easily the most unique game I have played in quite some time. It oozes style, thoughtfulness, and humanity, and tackles issues that aren't typical videogame fodder, eschewing alien invasions and zombie apocalypses in favour of exploring more grounded themes like growing up, belonging, friendship, and self discovery.

The game's graphics are generally decent, with the devs having made the wise decision to go with slightly stylised character designs that don't strive to be photorealistic, but rather look more like watercolour portraits. Combined with a colour palette using lots of pastels and washed out colours, the visual design is striking and pleasing to the eye despite its relative simplicity. In terms of sound, the game is on point, with solid to excellent voice acting across the board, appropriate well mixed sound effects, and a soundtrack that, while not my style of music (indie guitar and vocals mostly), perfectly evokes the dreamy, melancholic mood that flows through the game.

In terms of gameplay, Life is Strange is a point-and-click adventure, very much in the style of the Telltale games, with a strong focus on story, dialogue, and choices made through character interactions. There is nothing in the way of combat, and there are some light puzzles (nothing taxing), which is good because those would interfere with the core of the game, which is it's story and characters.

Life is Strange's story centres around the protagonist Max Caulfield, a teenage girl with a passion for photography who returns to her childhood hometown for her final year of high school, and explores her relationships with friends and rivals as she unravels a series of suspicious goings on around the town that seem somehow connected. All the major characters are wonderfully realised and believable, and the supporting characters have also been thoughtfully written, even if some of them get limited screen tim. But it is Max and her best friend, Chloe, that are the stand outs, two very different personalities that complement each other perfectly. It's a testament to how well realised the characters in Life is Strange are that they made me pause and consider how utterly absurd and unbelievable the overwhelming majority of videogame characters are. Life is Strange's characters feel like people I could meet in real life. Hell, some of them feel like people I have met!

That is not to say that the game is perfect. The environmental graphics are decidedly basic at times, even allowing for the artistic license of the visual style, there are some moments of decidedly clunky dialogue writing, the PC mouse controls were bad enough for me to just give up and use a controller instead, and the way the ending is handled may well prove unsatisfying for some. But in spite of these shortcomings, the game succeeds far more often than it fails, and remains a wonderful journey well worth taking.

Overall, while Life is Strange is not necessarily one of the very best games I've ever played, it's without doubt one of the most thoughtful and genuinely unique, and I can't recommend it highly enough if you're looking for a bit of a different gaming experience.

Refreshing and a well-managed story, awesome cast and game mechanics. The first two episodes may be a drag but as you go on, the story develops and you can't stop playing for some more chapters. I advise for new players to not read guides and spoilers and play the game blind.

First, I thought it's a big mistake that they implemented this feature, but closer to the end, I understood that it was the right choice. It's the main mechanic of the game. Life is Strange wouldn't be so great without this ability. Gameplay-wise, I prefer Quantic Dream's and Telltale Games' way. I also loved the soundtrack for this game. I vote this game 9 out of 10. - The soundtrack is beautiful, and captures and enhances the moments of the story very well.
    - The voice acting is superb. I love the emotion and character each voice actor put into his / her work.
    - The choices you make in the game actually feel compelling. Even though the general outcome of the story will always be very similar, as in most choice heavy games, at least in this story, the choices dont feel 'tacked on"but actually part of the story.

If I have to find some negative points, they would be very minor.
    - The facial animation of the characters could have been done better. Their lips dont move well with the dialogue at all, which detracts from the strength of the scenes a bit.
    - The 'freedom' which you get to explore the world is zero. But this is always a choice of storytelling over player freedom. I cannot blame the devs for making this choice, I actually prefer it. Not every game has to be open world. But it would have been nice for at least some freedom in exploring the map or something.

Overall, I truly recommend this game. One of the best games I have ever played. If you love story-driven games, please give this game a shot!

It's a brilliant, smart and completed story that progresses from a nice, but simple and even sometimes boring Episode one towards a better Episode 2, excellent Episode 3, amazing Episode 4 and a good ending in Episode 5. It's like a brilliant film, but with a deeper immersion. Square Enix found a great way to make you feel exactly what Max feels and it's a huge emotional experience

And yes, there's plenty of drawbacks. In a game that is all about choices the story is very linear and hence number of choices is actually quite limited (and most of them do not change much). I guess it was simply far too difficult to fit such an amazing story into a non-linear world. The game does it's best to hide this problem and does it really, really well, but the problem is still there and it's visible sometimes. The visuals are nice, but character's faces in a game that is all about humans aren't visualized perfectly. The game deep immersion method means that when Max will be in trouble or frustrated, you'll be in trouble or frustrated as well (face a difficult or frustrating puzzles). But it all doesn't really matter. There's so much good in the game that all these problems are barely affecting gameplay after the few first hours. 11/10, it is sad that it'll be too difficult to expect another game that is that good anytime soon.

Life is Strange is even simpler than Telltale games and nowhere near as playable as Broken Sword, The Longest Journey or classic Lucas Arts adventures, but it's not a bad game.

I would give 6/10 but ending is just a masterpiece. Can't tell anything about it, but it's not a typical ending and it's very emotional. It's like the game was preparing player to face the truth.

Max may at first seem like a run-in-the-mill female teenage protagonist.
The not-quite an introvert teen who initially gains courage extrinsically (through her powers and BFF, Chloe) and later intrinsically after a couple of epiphanies. Relations between Apollo and Dionysus complicated by circumstance and other archetypal teen characters. The story as told by Mighty Max from her humble pedestal.

Fortunately, this is (mostly) not the case. Characters are revealed to Max by conversing, nosing around and reversing time to unravel additional options. Depending on Max's interactions, she is able to find either redeeming or damning qualities in the characters she meets. There are times when not noticing someone could be of consequence, even if insignificant to the main story.

This game truly shines because of the script and character development. The way characters are interwoven keeps the player engaged in the story. Time moves on, but is never the arbiter of events. Even so, Max, with her powers, struggles to make the right decisions. All thanks to Chaos theory. I.e. Jerking off can diverge into infinite possibilities that are vastly different from the initial conditions and impossible to accurately predict (dead kittens, blinded kids, pregnant nuns or crusty socks?). In this case, a blue butterfly, screwing up time and space somehow equals colossal tornado (a reference to the butterfly effect).

Maxine is a self-conscious perfectionist who doubts her talent and rather skip submission for her photography assignment than to risk being seen as a wannabe. She is highly empathetic, observant and curious. Perfect for a click and explore graphic adventure game.

As characters are the focal point, part of the allure of this game are the trinkets of insight into the lives of Max and her peers within each locale. There are a few hints as to what is to come in later episodes. Most are just tidbits of information, whilst others are a little more open to interpretation. An example would be her low GPA for someone fairly smart. One could assume that she is probably either too focused on her pet subject (photography) or she has not been submitting her assignments due her aversion to failure.

Chloe is a almost a walking cliché. The gist of her story is that an accident killed her father. Max and family moved out of town soon after. Chloe is angry. Gets involve in drugs, sex and becomes a school drop-out. Nonetheless, Chloe is essential to Maxine's development as a character. She is the catalyst and the only person Max truly confides in.

Sadly, the finale barely farts an impression. It pales in comparison to the final scene between Clem and Kenny in TWD Season 2.

Choice 1: F**k off Chloe. No Lesb*
Choice 2: F**k the world. P*ssy grind now.

    Game-play (4/5)

Time warp does enhance the story and game-play experience. Given that choices are key to providing such a game with some semblance of players' agency. Time reversal complements well with Maxine's character. Unsure!? Reverse!! But screws up anyhow.

The task of adding to the collection of photos in Max's diary is a nice touch. Many of which would be missed if a player rushes the game. This means the game has an element of openness to each locale.

I bought the full game 5 months after Ep 5 was released, so I am guessing most of the bugs would already have been fixed. All except a moment when Max showcased her awesome ventriloquist skill in the finale.

    Graphics (5/5)

The art is pretty stunning. The lighting and ambient color palette is visually balanced without being overly vibrant and definitely not as dull as Telltales' comic book art style.

The game brings out the mood using autumn red. The calm before the fan, spinning at full speed, comes loose and hits the floor already piled high with sh*t

    Music (4/5)

    Original score - Nice.
    Licensed music - Very Nice.
The way a song is heard from Max's perspective using her headphones and hi fi is noteworthy. Great music that goes well with Max the Lovable Hipster. That's a compliment.

    Final Verdict: 4.5/5

    Ave Maxine The Great.

'' first i thought it was all happy game, but when i go deeper in the game, i notice that it isnt always sunshine and rainbow and that is life too. maybe that is why life is strange?

My verdict of this game is that this game is a solid art! and a true life lesson, you are more open minded and all the emotions getting throwed at you not knowing if you can handle all this. and that is life.
So if you havent played this game yet, you should absolutly play it!!!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Life is Strange is by far one of my favorite games, it has a great story, the mechanics are wonderful and blend perfectly with the story, and the characters are great. This game's story is amazing, telling the story of a young woman learning about life. I don't want to go into the story that much because the best way to experience the game is by going in blind. The twists are memorable, and the story is touching and a emotional roller coaster. The gameplay is pretty good, the puzzles are fun to engage in and to solve. Although I feel like there more could ave been done with it, I still feel like what we are given is great. The telltale like gameplay is also great with the choices you make actually making a difference in the story, although in the last episode *spoiler* I feel like the last choice deciding the ending is a bit disappointing. This game is all around wonderful. Expand

This game is amazing! You really feel connected to all of the characters and every decision you make impacts them and you throughout the rest of the game. Being able to rewind time is a awesome concept which is executed perfectly and makes for some really cool and intense gameplay.

On a side note I really like the achievement system of finding hidden spots to take pic. I highly

I highly recommend this game even if you are not the biggest exploration/narrative fan.

A fantastic game from Squire Enix
1.Graphics is just awesome.Color combination used here is just perfect and capture the true American theme...what is more, the attention given to graphics is insane ..even the little things are done with care....(10/10)
2.Main character Max is likable person...they should give little more attention to side characters and story (7/10) 3.interesting

One of the best interactive stories, Life is Strange puts most of the Telltale's games to shame with it's actually impactful choices and attention to details.

Insanely entertaining, emotionally deep and well crafted story game based on decisions with a fun supernatural element. The characters are well written and fleshed out and the game moves along at a nice pace. The climax is satisfying and, while a bit predictable, well executed.

    Rigiocarci? Forse, un giorno.

Life Is Strange is an imperfect video game and the actual mechanics of playing it, including the time rewind, can become annoying of frustrating, especially when the development team tries to borrow from another genre. But the game makes it easy to create a connection with Max and to care about her choices and trials, a rare feat, and that means any fan of narrative-driven experiences should try it out to see how he deals with the feelings of the protagonist and the impact they have on Arcadia Bay.

Life is Strange is flawed, but this paranormal coming-of-age story is nevertheless refreshing proof that small stakes can still feel important, given strong characters.
