Life Goes On

Life Goes On is a clever and fun puzzle/platformer with a surprising amount of replayability, and if that results in a few thousand dead minions, at least they left a helpful corpse behind.

Life Goes On is an ingenious puzzle game that puts a whole new spin on dying in video games. Sadly its’ biggest downfall is the fact that the game is on the short and easy side, but if you’re trying to get every achievement and medal in the game, you can squeeze out a few more hours from this one. If you don’t mind all of that, I definitely recommend picking this one up.

Cutesy and colourful, Life Goes On takes a core concept from most games, flips it, and embeds it in an environment with reciprocating elements. The result is an engaging puzzle platformer that delights more than it frustrates. The ending credits sequence is also one of the most charming things I’ve seen this year.

A good platform with some value: passing away into videogames has never been so much fun as it is in Life Goes On.

There’s a comfortable progression of difficulty, with the game’s initial stages easy enough to understand and later stages that require a good deal of thought, planning and timing.

If you're violently allergic to puzzle games, Life Goes On won't miraculously cure you. But as long as you're open to the idea of having your mind engaged more than your trigger finger, this melon-twister's wicked personality alone might be enough to pull you into its death grip.

Life Goes On provides some fun in spite of its short life.

There’s no way to get bored in Life Goes On. Partly because it frequently introduces new obstacles and other elements of environment, but also due to the fact that it only lasts for three hours. [06/2014, p.67]

You'll laugh (and fell a little guilty) pushing tons of tin soldiers to their death, but you know it's a duty, necessary to achieve the victory. Life Goes On is based on a cynical premise, but it's really funny and addictive. Sadly, it won't last too long.

Even though Life Goes On is short and simplistic, it offers a bold, welcome break from the ‘science saves the world’ cliché permeating other puzzle games. Three ‘vikings’ will win only if two of them are dead.

A funny take on death in videogames, but it has a short life span (just as its characters) and will leave you wanting for more.

Life Goes On might not start with the most mindblowing hook, but the idea is solid and Infinite Monkeys develops it well. By constantly adding new tricks into its repertoire and not dragging itself out unnecessarily, it maintains a good quality throughout.

As a puzzle game, it is original, macabre and fun, but it's also quite short, so we have to trust the developer's promise of expanding the experience. Still, it deserves a try.

The sense of humor that informs the UI too rarely penetrates to the actual level design. Because of this, and the comparative ease of its puzzles, Life Goes On feels like a trifle, nicely made and modestly amusing but forgotten more quickly than it's finished.
