Take a blender, throw in a copy of "Diablo II" and "Baldur's Gate II," season with vodka, and what do you get? Konung: Legend Of The North, a real-time, role-playing game from Russian developmental studio 1C. It's a Baldur-ish spin-off that, despite its budget price, does quite a few things right.
  2. It lacks in originality, and the play is a little slow. But while this is not the kind of game that will take your breath away, it is the kind of game that – because of its simplistic nature – will draw you back to play it.

An enjoyable diversion at a reasonable price.
  4. Not everything in Konung is bad, but the game's virtues hardly add up to a ringing endorsement. It can occasionally be fun, but by the end it's the repetition that you'll remember.
  5. To make a painfully long story short, even at a $20 price point, you won't eke a smidgen of amusment out of this product, unless you receive it as a white elephant gift.

The dialog can be humorous, and there's plenty of classic RPG character building. The party system falls apart in combat, and quests are tiresome scavenger hunts and postal chores.
  7. A good idea that fails to survive the transition from concept to actual gameplay.
  8. Because of its confusing story, unappealing visuals, and counterintuitive controls, Konung ends up looking like a Diablo clone that hit the shelves four years too late. Even at the bargain-bin price of $20, it's not worth recommending Konung, because it simply isn't fun.

Have loved this game since I was young, it's a really interesting combination of different elements.

Compared to Baldur's Gate which also makes use of the Infinity Engine, Konung : Legend of the North is a bit of a different take on the same ideas. While Baldur's Gate is much more about Story/Characters and taking a lot of inspiration from D&D elements, Konung focuses much more on the world and factions, specifically 3 : The Slavs, Vikings and Romans.

    Pro's

    - 3 Main Characters with different spins on the same over-arching story
    - An interesting and mysterious world, including some really cool areas that I just haven't seen replicated to the same degree in another game.
    - Quite humorous and yet with themes of horror and tension that blends really well
    - A combat system that's really enjoyable and with some depth
    - Really interesting Village and Alliance systems where you can repopulate villages and become their lords.

    Cons
    - Party system which becomes a bit clumsy as more members join
    - Very slow movement with no sprint, however this can be offset with game speed options
    - Some small translation issues
