    This game is great. If you're a zombie fan, you'll love it. First, the graphics: Very good for the source engine. The facial animations on the main characters are great. I'll never forget the first time I saw one of my fellow players injured, lying on the ground screaming his head off, then to look and see that the facial animations followed this screaming: mouthThis game is great. The zombies are great too. The way they shamble, run and stumble when you hit them is very impressive. As far as the gameplay, it's great. If you've played even 1 or 2 Valve shooters, you'll be fine with this game. The game helps you along nicely without being annoyingly easy. I think my favorite part of the game, overall, is the Versus mode. Basically, 4 players will play as humans and any players present over that 4 will be placed on the undead team. You can sort of "spectate" the map and figure out where you want to spawn. It tells you what kind of zombie you'll spawn as and whether or not you can spawn (you can't be too close to the humans). I honestly think I've had the most fun playing as the zombies, especially the one time I've gotten to be the "tank". Nothing like smacking people across the room or ripping up chunks of the ground to throw at them. Great fun. Most well-done, original and FUN game I've played since the Orange Box, hands down.… Expand

    I'm an old gamer with very high standards when it comes to current games. There are so many games out there that are re-hashed from a decade ago. And most of them fail to impress... I like many of you have played it all and seen it all..

    This is definitely one of the most unique games I've played in a long, long time. The best part of this game is the co-op play. It's fantastic and works extremely well. If you don't work together you die period.
    The story line aspect keeps you engaged and the stats and achievement system is a nice touch. The zombies are perfectly done and react well to all sorts of gun fire :). Physics are very well done and overall presentation is Top notch with a capital T. The game play is FANTASTIC and the replayability factor remains very high. Did I stress the fantastic fun game play enough??? :) Game play easily gets a 10 out of 10 in my book.
    As for flaws... well... I'm hard pressed to find any glaring flaws with this game. Maybe they could have added a flame thrower or something but now I'm being picky :)..

    First of all this is not a single player rambo game. If your team doesn't work together you lose. Its that simple. Zombies, boss zombies are epic, every class has a unique roll to play and each one has a counter. Valve is also going to be putting in more content as time goes on and that will add even more value.     This game is one of the most fun I've ever played. It's had me hooked since I downloaded the demo and continues to be exciting every game. I would like to give it closer to 9.5 for a few minor issues with game play (tanks are really unfair at times in versus). Hopefully they keep updating the achievements to make us keep playing campaigns!

    Incredible atmosphere and unbelivable environments are just the framework for a great game that forces you to work together and actually have fun doing it. This is just awesome, Haven't had this much fun in a long time. It really captures the feeling of being in your own personal zombie movie.     I love this game not only because it's included the fast zombies in the zombie apocolypse, but because it's constantly a new experience. The Director does a fantastic job in creating new gameplay each time you play a level, never being predictable to the point of boring. Valve never disspoints me and this game is no exception.

    Over Priced, game play is boring over time, gets old very quick and ive only played it for at least 2 hours, not to mention how buggy it is, and this hidden server browser which barely works is CRAP UTTER crap. I wish i didn't buy it gollydamnit I should refute the charges.

    Iv'e played Fallout 3, Farcry 2, and many of the other hit titles this Fall and so far, this is my favorite game yet. I love every single thing about this game. The graphics are great, but the death animations are the best iv'e seen. The game's dificulty ranges from possible to insane, and i cannot believe people actually wanted another dificulty level.     L4D is the best zombie game of all time. Coop is addictive and the AI director changes things up on you each time you play leaving the potential for a huge amount of replayability. Versus is excellent as well. 4 zombies try to stop 4 humans from reaching safety and the teams switch to see which human side can get the farthest with the most survivors still standing. It is so satisfying to just barely pull things together as a survivor and make it to the saferoom with a mob at your heels, or as a zombie to yank a survivor away from the group and watch your team rip him to shreds. One of the most impressive aspects of the game is how polished it is, particularly with regards to the animations. The sense of momentum that the zombie horde has when it charges you is just amazing, and it really feels like your weapon is connecting when you smash a zombie with the end of a gun and it goes reeling back. The only critique I have is directed at the matchmaking system. There's no way to select where the server you want to play in is located, or whether it is modified or not, so if you're unlucky, you might end up in a server with cheats enabled or one that's just horribly laggy.… Expand

    Definitely an amazing game; I would say it is the first person shooter of the year. Never played any better zombie survival game, and the fact that it highly leans toward co-op makes it even better. The game is definitely not easy unless you're on easy or normal difficulty, thus there's always a lot of teamwork involved.     How can you give this game anything other than a 10. How long has it been since we've had a coop game with this kind of depth. The game is quick, creepy, and more fun to play than anything I've experienced in a while. WTG Valve!

    Just a great game, always fun to play. since everyone loves this game, i would like to point out my cons about the game. Even though the Director does randomly change zombie locations, they are still in one of a few spots that you will see them. in other words, its random to a point.     Has a decent length if played on the corect difficulty and has endless replay value.
    The source engine is a little outated but is really showing us what it can do with this game. Any bugs are always fixed by Valve quickly and one of the golden features of a Valve game is that they are going to add more content over time. Balenced perfectly!

    I was actuially pretty disappointed with Gears 2. It felt to me like Halo 2 all over again. Not that it's similar to halo 2, but i mean in its relationship to Gears 1. I think the critics are giving it much more hype than it deserves, as the game is less a new game than it is the original game revamped. Which some people might find great, but i was disappointed.

    Valve has done it again, people. Simply outstanding. This game will make you happy, sad, scared, fearless, along with an array of others. Versus mode is amazing, you will come to love every infected class available. Please note this though: if you don't like dying repeatedly, you will not like playing as the infected.     Single player had a lackluster story, but made that up with the beautiful environments (courtesy of Valve's amazing source engine), and intense gameplay. The first time I played the campaign, I noticed my heart beating wildly in my chest and the fact that I hadn't blinked in the last 40 minutes.
    Lastly, the new AI director will ensure that, no matter how many times you play a mission, you will never recieve the same experience. No longer will gamers have the chance to memorize where clusters of enemies are, and where health and ammo will be.
    Left 4 Dead is highly recommended for fans of fast-paced FPS gameplay, and zombie lovers alike.    … Expand

    Awesome game, anything I can complain about with this game will soon be fixed by mods. I have never seen the perfect game but this one is pretty close, source engine is getting old but it looks wonderful in this game, frames per second is high despite tons of on screen action.     I really like the originality to this game. There are very few games out there with challenging horror scenes, most zombies or "infected" people move slow, and the game tends to be running backward and shooting. On this, if you run backwards, chances are they're gonna catch up and something WILL get you from behind. The AI is superb, the only problems i did find was that the animations, although they are amazingly fluent and smooth, they do not hit the world: When an infected jumps up at you, their hands won't be hanging on the ledge, they will be either below, or infront of it. There are some infected that are just stood on tables, and seem to be floating. The boss and AI direction system is amazing, the way the zombies react, attack and act is fabulous. This game is amazing - and i have only done one chapter so far! 10/10 regardless of the ai things, this game still deserves a 10/10.… Expand

    Great game with not enough content. I hope my money helps them add more content for free. More levels.. More weapons... More types of bosses... Would be nice if there were more players allowed per game. How about a vehicle.

    incredible game, great co-op, endless fun on infinite maps. No one has given the real credit to the director who can take ANY (read: ANY) source map and toss in some zombies. This game has given me a new respect for dust 2 when a tank ran me over while i was trying to sweep over Short B.

    First of all, I gotta say this is one of the best zombie game I ever played. I love playing it with my friends. And all you hear is them screaming over the mic from my friends lol. This game is very exciting and thrilling. I give Left 4 Dead a 1O!

    Superb, I don't know how anybody could consider giving it less than 10 since a friendly approach to modders and constant updates mean that there will be many more than 4 campaigns.

    Great game for online play. VS mode is a blast! I just hope it has a high re-playability to it... as long as valve continues to pump out new maps and other goodies like they do for TF2, that won't be a worry.

    Best game of 2008, kinda short, but thanks to the AI Director every game just doesn't feels like the other, even when you play the same map over and over again... Looks like everybody who bought it is way too busy to comment about it here by now, kinda underrated by critics... it deserves a better score than 89.

    Everything you would expect after playing HL2 and its follow up episodes. This game will not disappoint and the AI is unreal. The computer controlled characters play better than some online controlled players. Lots of fun, constantly changing and very fast paced.

Great sound, great graphics, great gameplay, everything about this game is almost perfect. Grab a weapon and some pain killers, move forward and shoot zombies, no questions ask.     Awesome game always keeps you on edge. and at times becomes extremely epic if u can get into it there are however a need for a diversity i think of more weapons, on soon hopefully more maps (soon aka like a month or 2) if u enjoy zombies, massive rushes and Fuego i recommend this.

    This game is pure win in so many ways. It proves that basic gameplay, decent graphics and sound and a moderate budget can be better than most big budget titles. Just think what this game will e like after additions. Left 4 Dead 2 on a bigger budget will be even more spectacular (think the difference of Half life 1 and 2).

    This is the most intense game I have EVER played. You will play for hours straight and be unable to blink because you'll think there's a zombie around every corner. Play with your friends for the maximum effect. You are guaranteed to have stories of your experience afterwards.

    This game combines great co-op, intense and unpredictable gameplay, fantastic AI and it is easily one of the best games I have played not only this year, but in my entire time as a gamer (12-13 years).

    There's absolutely no doubt that Left 4 Dead is one of the most social and exciting multiplayer games that we've ever played. It's almost pitch perfect in how it captures the tension and the action of a Hollywood zombie movie.

    The inventive and highly entertaining competitive multiplayer mode just adds to the experience, and we're looking forward to seeing what Valve's got planned for the game's future. Out of all the titles that have shaped the Year of Living Cooperatively, this may be the best experience of them all.

    One of the finest zombie games ever made, and one of the finest co-op games ever made. The potential for everything to go so, so wrong without warning, or conversely to pull off the most spectacular escapes against all odds, means this is an online shooter you can tell your finest anecdotes about without boring everyone else to tears.
