This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This really had so much promise. The concept of a woman returning home from the big city and her high stress job. Reuniting with estranged friends, creating new romantic relationships. The delicate balance between maintaining relationships with work colleagues and telling the truth. It all added up to nothing. Frank was investigated and then after a few days just returned to work. The inspector left without an explanation. Angie closed her video store, disappeared and then came back to sweep Meredith away without any question or objection. Every storyline fell completely flat. Whether that is due to writing, budgets, or limitations of a small development team. Who knows? Maybe all of them. There is a definite market for games like this. I just wish they were told in a more meaningful way. Expand

I simply found this to be a boring game designed around a character that I could not relate to in any way. In fact the characters and writing in general just seemed to be too far removed from reality to really get into, which is a bad thing as the game seems to be entirely centered around it's story and character development in what is supposed to be a humble and realistic setting. In fact I think the lack of any real genuine humble mountain town feel is what works against it the most. It's just kind of a ridiculous story with ridiculous characters, but in the most boring way possible. Expand

This game is a visual stunner! I mean, seriously, the graphics are so atmospheric that you'll feel like you're really there. But don't get too comfortable, because the story and characters are about as exciting as watching paint dry.

The game centers around Meredith, a postal worker who spends her days delivering letters to the ungrateful residents of her town. And let me tell you, these people are a piece of work. They're rude, self-centered, and couldn't care less about Meredith's well-being. They only like her when she's doing something for them. Talk about fair-weather friends.

One of the game's main features is the dialogue choices, but unfortunately, they often miss the mark. For example, when an NPC tells Meredith they got a new refrigerator, her response options would be like "OMG! I don't like cats" and "You might not want to keep a cat. It's not good." Wait, what? How is that even related to the conversation? And neither option is any good anyway.

Overall, the game is a mixed bag. The visuals are breathtaking, but the characters are insufferable. Unless you enjoy spending your time with narcissistic NPCs, you might want to give this one a pass.

This is literally the video game adaptation to generic Hallmark movie #457. Girl leaves small town for big city and big important job, comes back decades later because of family issues, finds love, finds that she enjoys small town lifestyle and misses it.

If you have seen a Hallmark movie, you've played this game, and it shows in the bad quality of writing. I am kind of shocked

I am kind of shocked Hallmark hasn't stolen the script and idea of this game to make a movie. Graphics are barely DX 10 quality. The voice acting is cheesy and poor. Game play is generic. This is not worth the $20 price tag, it's not even worth $5.

An interesting idea marred by a subpar execution, Lake is more tedious than it is relaxing and immersive. The atmosphere is neat, and the whole process of taking it easy and just enjoying the simple act of delivering the mail is surprisingly cathartic, but it's not enough to keep you here for more than an hour. There is some talking to be done with a number of characters as well, but this is sadly the least exciting thing here. The townsfolk are so boring that driving the empty roads and simply delivering the mail is more preferable.

Highly relaxing, sometimes too much perhaps, Lake offers an escape of a few hours that is not refused when one seeks a purely restful narrative experience. The interactive story shaped by Gamious also benefits from a great deal of authenticity and choice of dialogues that allow the player to feel truly engaged. Too bad the adventure is based on a pattern that does not evolve enough, a too languid pace and a scenario that fails to touch us fully.

Lake is a lovely, slow-paced indie game to play in your downtime. Rich in personality and character, well worth replaying.
