For example; You have to cross an electrified road in Wyndrax Tower and while I was passing a bug happened and HP increased to 4400 and armor to 13,000. So the game started crashing and I had to revert to my old save. Likewise in Mishima Labs the elevator stuck and not working etc. The game crashed at least 20 times until I finished the game. So what were the things that made the game good? The story isn't bad. Level design was fine. However, the first episode was so bad, there were people who left the game in the first place just because of it. It's like Unreal 1 but worse. The game gets better with episode 2. In Episode 2, the game turns into Hexen 2, I really like it. Quake 2 tracks in Episode 3 as well. Episode 4 is a little weak compared to 2 and 3, but overall good. Weapon variety is very good. It's really a shame to the game. While it was going to be a good game, it was unfinished. The late release of the game also caused a lot of reaction. But despite everything, I tried to enjoy it and episodes 2 and 3 gave me that. The reason I gave 6 points is definitely because the AI and controls are so bad and bugs Expand

It's much more variable than the most, it takes you on a journey through time and different locations, it gives you plenty of different weapons for each era and of course the fun sword play with Daikatana herself. Maybe too many people were put off by the first act, which is very dark and dirty cyber future with annoying robo-mosquitos and frogs, quite a good way how to scare away the impatient, but amazing way how to start things off in an unpleasant and challenging way to reward the player with true beauty later. But I really enjoyed even the first act, especially the wonderful music. Speaking of music, it's one of the highlight of the entire game, fantastic soundtrack. After electro-industrial of the first act comes great string epicness of the act 2 in Ancient Greece, supported by majestic level design resulting in just amazing, very memorable experience that was the highlight of the entire game. Pity that development of this game obviously went through hell, loosing the data and team members and it couldn't be even more fleshed out, I heard there were plans for the maze with Minotaur and other good stuff that unfortunately never came to life. The 3rd Act again fantastic dark ages in winter and locations infested by plague, another great experience, remembering the Commander Keen or whatever that fish was Easter egg underwater and the final act coming back to oldschool guns to end this epic story. I even enjoyed the multiplayer and I really don't see the reason for all the hate of this game. It's not perfect, but it was and still is an amazing FPS experience for me. 9/10 Expand

Daikatana is difficult. In that difficulty there is a fun and rewarding experience. The game was definitely over ambitious and was pushed back/redesigned on new engines for long enough to make it fizzle out beneath better FPS games of the day. It has it's bugs and issues. Most notably with your companions. If you figure out how they work and when to tell them to stay put rather than attack, they're not a serious issue. I give this game a positive score because I believe that underneath the controversy it's still an interesting game that's a lot of fun to trudge your way through. If you're an expert FPS it's worth checking out. Expand

I actually like this game. It's challenging but fair. And while it has some minor technical problems like the V-Sync has to be disabled. If you don't disable V-Sync certain things like e.g. loading screen breaks and will cause tick-tick-tick bug. You also should install community made patch 1.3 for wide screen resolution support.

Visually Daikatana is probably one of the better looking Quake 2 engine based games out there. It's water colour style looks nice. The single-player has issues mainly in the writing but after a slow start the game really becomes a fast game that requires some actual skill. Level design varies from bad to fantastic but mostly is just better than average.

Music and sound in Daikatana is pretty good but not exceptional. Music if fun to listen to and it's a very good mix of electro rock and classical music with some more heavy metal influences.

Gameplay in Daikatana is fun but the sidekicks are tricky to control at times but don't in-general cause huge issues after you've learned how to work together with them. If you ignore the sidekicks the game becomes very hideous and it's going against the flow of the game.

Daikatana as a game is not actually a one single FPS but four different smaller FPS games put together. It has astonishing amount of variety and content for a game of its time. It has four very different episodes, 64 different monsters, loads of funny gimmicky weapons, and fairly interesting theme.

I don't even know where to begin with this excruciating excuse for a game; from the moment I began playing 'Daikatana', I knew I was standing in it...loading...pretty deep. The game starts off with an incredibly long and outrageously boring cut-scene that could have been done in about ten seconds. Basically, some girl has been kidnapped, and it's up to us to save her so she can use a special sword to save the world or something. Yeah, it's a pretty stupid and dare I say, generic plot. Then the garbage begins and we're forced to fend for ourselves against some evil frogs and dangerous flies. Yeah, those are the first enemies that you will encounter in this game, and boy are they annoying, just like everything else about 'Daikatana'.

Why on earth do I remember this pile of trash as being anything other than...loading...garbage? Was I a silly little child, running around, playing terrible games, thinking they were anything other than junk? Oh that's right, I never owned this game when I was a stupid little kid, it was one of those demos I played over and over again, until I got sick of it and moved on to some other terrible demos. You know, demos, those shiny discs you specifically bought new PC game magazines month after month for; demos. Those were the days, weren't they?

It's a good thing this game only costs...loading...seven dollars?! Are you serious?! Oh please tell me I didn't spend seven dollars on this, oh good I got this game in a Humble Bundle. All is well in the world again. And you'll stay the heck away from this game if you know what's good for ya! Instead try a game like Quake, or Doom, or Unreal, or Half Life, or Duke Nukem, or Shadow Warrior, or FEAR, or Far Cry, or Half Life, or System Shock 2, or Red Faction. Play anything other than this game!

Ah, hell how i'm tired of all that "Daikatana is bad" things. Let's see: it has beautiful and catchy music, that will find a place on your player. Level design varies from "interesting" to "just really great" (Ancient Greece levels, for example). Overall epicness, different epochs different enemies and weapons, and funny ones also. Hm..maybe coz i played Daikatana first 6 years later than it came out... Expand

I can't get past the first level. The game crashes when I walk up to the big door.
Even if the game did work properly, it has some weird problems encountered in the first level. - By default, you can't save the game without a gem. This can be turned off in the settings, but this actually required a patch after release. The original game with no updates has

    - By default, you can't save the game without a gem. This can be turned off in the settings, but this actually required a patch after release. The original game with no updates has a limited number of saves.
    - The load times are horrendous because the load time is tied to vsync. You need to turn off vsync just for the game to load in a reasonable amount of time.
    - The graphics are not good. I don't mean ugly, but I mean they make the gameplay needlessly difficult. In a game like Doom, you always know when you are looking at a monster. In Daikatana, you will find yourself shooting at a green object against a green background that hovers above green water. I can't tell if I'm shooting an enemy or shooting at a rock.
