Like a bad movie you have to see through to the end, Jack the Ripper will keep you in your seat right up to the disappointing conclusion.
-
I honestly do wish the developers spent more time polishing the game, because the game is buggy at times, and couldve used some more animations, but beyond that I really liked the atmosphere, and even started caring a bit for some of the characters.
-
The story is intriguing and engaging. While more puzzles would be expected for games of this style, there are enough to make it a game and the plot is enough to push you through the tale.
-
The few puzzles in the game are quite easy, and most experienced gamers will barely even be aware of them.
-
It comes to be what the public expects from the Adventure Company. The quality is there from the previous titles, but so are the flaws.
-
PC GamerAdventure fans could find worse ways to spend $20, but the game's emphasis on storytelling with few engaging puzzles may leave some wishing this tale had more involving interaction. [May 2004, p.75]

Jack the Ripper is a mixed bag. I was disappointed because the graphics are so enticing making the gameworld real and tangible but there isn't actually a great deal to do.
-
The game had potential written all over it and showed a lot of promise, but somehow it never quite made it to that pointthe point where it could be deemed a "good" game.
-
Cheat Code CentralThere are a few technical glitches and overall the production suffers a bit but it can be an interesting romp for mystery lovers.
-
It's too easy, the controls stink, the game is not engaging and it's too short.
-
The worst news is that, by the end of the game, the creators of Jack the Ripper betray their games best feature: its story. The games conclusion is a utter boondoggle, meaning all of the information youve so painstakingly gathered means absolutely nothing.
-
The real problem here is that unchallenging puzzles, certain technical glitches, and somewhat tedious gameplay may even turn away bona fide aficionados of the genre, and, sadly, dishearten even the most devoted of fans with a rather disappointing and frustrating ending. And there's just no excuse for that.
-
The developers spent a lot of time creating a really engaging story, but they hardly put any substantial gameplay into the game.
-
While the story is reasonably intriguing throughout the first part of the game, it becomes a jumbled mess in the later stages, and then completely falls apart in the end. Its also a bit on the short side the average gamer can expect to play through it in just a few hours, and theres zero replayability.
-
There is almost nothing good about the game, and, in fact, its one of the rare games Ive played where I actually got mad at the ending. So if you notice some extra venom in this review, its because Im writing it right after finishing the game.
-
Four Fat ChicksAnd like a boring dinner party, as the game wrapped up I found myself relieved that it was finally ending. Except ... well, the game did indeed stop, but as for a satisfactory ending ... you can decide for yourself.
-
Computer Gaming WorldEven if you tolerate Ripper's lack of interactivity because of its swiftly paced, absorbing story, the game's anticlimactic, unsatisfying finale will leave you feeling as frustrated as those original London police were back in 1888. [May 2004, p.89]
-
Generally a frustrating and unrewarding game, with the ultimate anti-payoff. I can't even sincerely recommend it to even the most ardent Ripper historian.

Computer Games MagazineSaid crimes are only marginally more heinous than this bug-ridden, empty, lifeless, un-engaging, shoddily designed excuse for an adventure game. [July 2004, p.69]
