    An extremely fun and fast game if you want to throw some stress this game is exactly for you, I think the only problem was in the section where the panthers were in that part I was very difficult to do it was unnecessary I think it was not the main boss battle anyway.

    I usually buy games on sale but after I listened to the whole soundtrack for hotline miami I purchased it for full price. If you don't dig the vibe after watching the trailer then I would say save your money. The game starts out fairly challenging but once you figure out the little details to the gameplay then it becomes moderately easy.     Addictive, bloody and fast-paced action. Cool retro design. A clever and engaging story. And a great soundtrack on top of it all. An awesome gaming experience that doesn't require a top-notch PC to play it. My only complaint is that it felt a bit short.

    I don't think even a little bit before i've played this game that massacre can be really funny and enjoyable. You don't afraid to die and this is the whole game's idea.
    Not a brilliant story, no good graphics(maybe this made the game original) but really amazing soundtracks with tasty game play. You need to give a try.

    Hotline Miami is just as fun as it is punishing, that is to say that it's a whole lot of both. It's a top-down fmup (think shmup but extremely brutal) with a pretty heavy tactical element to it that keeps you thinking about how to approach every situation more and more efficiently each time you die--and you'll die an awful lot. Any enemy can kill you or knock you out in one hit, soHotline Miami is just as fun as it is punishing, that is to say that it's a whole lot of both. It's a top-down fmup (think shmup but extremely brutal) with a pretty heavy tactical element to it that keeps you thinking about how to approach every situation more and more efficiently each time you die--and you'll die an awful lot. Any enemy can kill you or knock you out in one hit, so you'll be trying one idea, failing, and then refining that idea a few times until you have that glorious satisfaction of overcoming all the odds against you. The level design is pretty complex and the enemies are varied enough that the trial-and-error gameplay doesn't become stale. There is almost always a genuine challenge (apart from two absolutely ridiculous boss battles and a pretty cheap stealth segment), making the "trial" in "trial-and-error" something really, really compelling. The AI isn't great at picking up on signs that you're in their midst, but if it was, the game would probably be absolutely impossible. The campaign follows a narrative that isn't very strong, but it's definitely something interesting. It complements the stressful gameplay with some really weird hallucinations that actually make you wonder what the hell is actually going on, and then, even though it's not very complex, it ties up loose ends in a pretty fascinating way. The graphics, despite the really ugly face drawings, are stylish and give off an extremely eighties vibe, though there are no options to turn off some features like screen sway, which will probably end up hurting the game's accessibility. The real aesthetic star is the soundtrack, though. For 2012, it's one of the absolute best game soundtracks, right up there with Vessel. Because of its extreme challenge, Hotline Miami is probably not a game for most people, but it's extremely good at what it does, and despite a few caveats it's one of the best games this year.… Expand

What makes Hotline Miami awesome is not only the great soundtrack, but also that it rewards both good tactics and good reactions. An insta-death game which means you have to restart the level initially sounds frustrating, but the fact that there are no load times and the weapons available and enemy patterns are slightly different on each restart, as well as the amazing soundtrack, make this a joy to play and extremely rewarding when you can combo waves of enemies.

    There are plenty of satisfying skill-based games out there, but I've yet to come across one which makes me feel like a total badass every time in the same way that Hotline Miami does.    … Expand

The pixels themselves actually looked grainy as well. The game play is tough. This is a game of trail and error and could induce someone to rage quit (depending on their sensibilities).A lot better then I expected!!!     The gameplay is tough. The action is frantic, since one shot kills you and enemies move quickly, yet requires a lot of planning as you decide how to take on heavily-guarded buildings. The harder battles are ridiculously difficult. The sound is creepy and very fitting. The graphics are simple 2D, but the aesthetic is also unsettling. The controls are tough to get used to, but ultimately work most of the time. The story's somewhat minimal, but the story that is there is very interesting.

    I think this game is worth the $10 purchase, and if this looks interesting to you, I don't think you'll be disappointed. If you enjoy it, there's a lot of replayability here too. Definitely get it if it's on sale. The soundtrack is very good, but it's not exactly feel-good music. Either way, consider picking up the soundtrack too.    … Expand

    Mad game, I love it. The animals masks, bloody idea. The characters are psychos. The dialogues at the start: "I'm here to show you how to kill people". I recommend this game. It feels dangerous and It's completely insane.

    Annoying, infuriating, addictive but above all else bloody good fun; Hotline Miami may cause you to hurl your pad across the room in frustration but you will almost certainly go scampering back after it seconds later to have another go.

    Hotline Miami delivers a fast-paced, unforgiving, arcade style experience that is quite enjoyable. There are masks which change how your character does his killing. The music is good but all electronic. Short game but sweet. Good for speedrunning.

    Watch a video of the gameplay to get a feel for it.

    Bought for $2.50 on sale, played 7 hours, got half the achievements. Recommended.

If that sounds weird, it's because this game is weird, as well. While the game has some flaws, they can be overlooked for the most part, and you'll find yourself almost oblivious to the problems during gameplay. For now, I'll give the game an 8. Mostly due to technical problems that the developers are already working on, and because of the severe lack of options. While the game is simple in it's execution and style, it delivers with it's sheer madness and fun of solving the best way to beat a level. It's a bit harder but very satisfying. Plus as you progress you unlock different weapons an masks. Different masks can tailor the experience for your play style. One makes executions swift, another lets dogs ignore you, a fast walk mask. There are many and I still have more to unlock. The varied weapons you have and how unforgiving mistakes are make this game a true gem. It's nice when a game can infuriate you one minute then give you sheer delight the next. It truly is an experience. If you are looking to kill some time, this is a great way to do it. This is very much worth the asking price.… Expand

    Every level has some kind of new situation where you have to think about your strategy, its pretty brutal in fact both in difficulty levels and in gameplay style. The best soundtrack I heard for a really long time, and art-style is amazing! The story makes you think about your actions in the game, and it ever reaches the point where you're getting uncomfortable with    This game is awesome.!

    Hotline Miami is one of those different games to come out in the indie section. To be honest, When I first saw the game I didn't think it belonged there until I got a peak at the gameplay. When it went up on sale not to long ago I thought I would give it a try and right away loved the game. At the begining of the game your greeted by a homeless looking guy who teaches you the basics then you meet the masked three (that's what I call them anyway.) I'm not going to talk about story and ruin it for ya so lets talk game play.

    Since the game is a over the top shooter it doesn't look like something you could be stealthy at, but that's where your wrong. Depending on what you like in weapon wise and what your mask does you could go silent or all out but the trick of this game is to plan your attack instead of going right at it, a simple thing that many game developers tend to push to the side to help out newer gamer's. As long as you think before you act you can get threw this game pretty well but remember, just like your enemies can be killed by one hit, you can die with one hit as well so trial and error is needed when you first start playing just to get use to it. The more you kill the more points you collect and you can make more points by how bold you get, how many chained kill you collect and even how you take them out and with allot of different weapons to choose from you wont get tired trying something different like switching your shotgun for a base ball bat or sword.

    I myself haven't beaten the game just yet but from what I have played I am very pleased with this game, but to be honest I like to see more for this game and if not this one then I hope to see allot more for Hotline Miami 2 (yes they are already developing a second game). From what I can tell, after you beat the story there isn't much else for you to do except play the sorry again and get high scores on all the levels. What this game could use is a user friendly level maker along with some sort of server system to share these levels to other players, but that's just a personal idea since I don't want to just drop this game after defeating it. Besides that, I really dig the music in this game. It kind of gave me a 80's movie soundtrack feel to it and goes well with the entire gameplay feel.

    In the end, I'm giving it a 8.5 (even tho I can only give it a 8 here) for trying something new and winning.

    P.S. Notice I never talked about graphics beyond 'over top shooter'? That's because graphic's is never something you should worry about. you don't need good graphic for a good game, the game could look like crap and still be awesome.    … Expand

Reminiscent in game play of the great Gauntlet and Alien Breed games of yesterdays, Hotline as been given some modern hyper stylings as blood and scenery gets chewed up as you make your away around the game. Action is quick and unrelenting as one misstep againstTHE GOOD: Genius in it's simplicity and visceral in it's execution (pun intended) Hotline Miami is intentionally old skool (sic). Reminiscent in game play of the great Gauntlet and Alien Breed games of yesterdays, Hotline as been given some modern hyper stylings as blood and scenery gets chewed up as you make your away around the game. Action is quick and unrelenting as one misstep against the outnumbered enemies equals instadeath. I loved the graphics and music. 80's 8-bit text bounces and waves around the screen, while neon sprites and corridors make me wish I was colour blind. On occasion the game will throw some Super Nintendo Mode-7 spins and fades intentionally trying to give it that retro look. To keep things from being too samey,characters appear to have multiple animations, which made me feel that each kill was unique (pan of boiling water is one of my favorites so far). Audio and music is strong and suits 100% this title. In the mix are over 35 weapons and 25 unlockable animal masks, which each gives a slight game play change (greater punch reach, more ammo etc.). Guilty of being simple and fun.

    THE BAD: Very little of Hotline Miami can be described as 'bad'. The gameplay itself can take a little getting used to as melee weapons have a certain range and gun aiming takes some practice but this is all part of the charm. Although being reckless is recommended and gives you a bigger score, I keep finding myself planning my movement around the level. Often I'll stop and see what the enemy is carrying before I burst in with a pipe (only to be welcomed in a hail of machine gun fire). Thankfully the restarts are quick and allow you to get back into the action. Due to the graphical style on occasion I'll be caught out by an AI character sat down and blended into the background but this all part of the charm and learning curve. | I would have liked to have seen larger levels, more variety of enemy and a multiplayer co-op element would have sealed the deal and scored a 9+ from me. Rumors of a sequel are already floating around, so fingers crossed for more of the same with some extras.    … Expand

    Hotline Miami is a retro top down nintendo-style game with 80s pink neon feel and thumping hot soundtrack. Violently fun and different from most other games around. It's got a lot of funny tongue in cheek humor that some reviewers don't get. Absolutely worth the price for the experience.

    Worth playing. Very entertaining. Amaaazing music. For an indie game is a big ten, no doubt. The gameplay it's very addictive. It also has a catchy storyline I would say. Hoping for more games of these guys!!

    Excellent indie game with unforgiving yet still satisfyingly fun game mechanics and a surprisingly good soundtrack. A friend of mine compared it to a Tarantino film, which is a worthy assessment.

    If you're a fan of the 80's or retro gaming, you may be able to appreciate this game's art style as well. Thumping bass beats coupled with a "modern" take on the pixellated graphics of yore make for a very unique experience. The dark atmosphere of the game world and its characters emphasize a focus on the killing and the wonderful, sadistic rush you get from destroying a floor full of people with a crowbar.

    Hotline Miami isn't for everyone, that much is true. Not everyone will like the style of gameplay or its art style. However, don't let other people influence you right away.     It was an enjoyable experience. It mixes together your quick reactions and your strategic thinking to complete a level. It punishes you on a single mistake however and I truly liked that aspect of this game. Overall, I think it was a great game but I found it to be quite short but definitely worth the price of 10 bucks.

    With a really good story and a dark environment, Hotline Miami is a very fast pace, top down shooter. With old school 16-bit graphics it looks awesome, the music is very unique and different for each level. There is not much I can say about this game because there are so many spoilers so I will leave you with some advice, PLAY THIS GAME!!!!!!!!

A 2D, top down, violent, shooter, head f***, Hotline was designed by just 2 people (Jonatan Söderström & Dennis Wedin) and has since spawned various merchandise including artworks, figurines, outfits, masks and in more recently, a DLC collaboration with PAYDAY2 and later this year, the sequel - Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, which I was lucky enough to play a level of it at EuroGamer, London.. there was some guy playing it before me, couldn't get past the level... heh heh heh

    Gameplay & Story
    The beginning of each level is reason enough to believe how insane the game can be. You chose and don a mask of many - each with their own specific trait - e.g. my favourite, Don Juan, a horse head mask, has the ability to kill enemies by opening a door on them. Add to that, a rooster, owl, pig, mole, a load of other common variety animals! The significance? Hell if I know.. but 3 of the masks are worn by some random people who occasionally show up in your apartment and indulge in random conversation - from explanations, accusations and plain and simple hostility. After each level, you retreat to your apartment where you await a phone-call telling you something along the lines of 'I need some laundry picked up' or 'kids kicked a football through my window' - code for drugs and murder usually.

    Using a standard Xbox controller, Hotline has a fairly tough initiation into the game. One analogue stick to move, the other circling your character for aiming, triggers for shooting & throwing discarded weaponry, bumpers for scouting the map along with various other standard buttons to finish kills and grab goods. What makes it so addictive? the rush, the speed of the levels - risk and rash decisions are met with rewards - paraphrasing from the loading screen advice - the more you rack up multi-kills and get creative with your exterminations, the more points you get - which in turn applies to your grade at the end of each level (an A+, F- basis). I tend to go back and try and improve my scores afterwards, to unlock more masks, secrets etc, but also to find and use more weapons - Pipes, knives, shotguns and machine-guns are commonplace, but as you delve deeper into the murky underbelly of Miami, you'll encounter rifles, pool cues, katanas and drills.. What are you fighting? The Ruskies of course! all wielding a variety of different objects designed to take you out in one, along with a battalion of guard dogs that patrol the hallways.

    Soundtrack
    The 23 music tracks alone take over a whopping hour and a half of your head-bobbing, shoulder jiving pleasure. From several different artists, Sun Araw, M|O|O|N, Perturbator, Jasper Byrne, Scattle, Elliott Berlin, Eirik Suhrke, CoConuts, El Huervo & Shelby Cinca - some of which, career's took off after the success of HM and have returned for a second offering in the games sequel. But what is that makes the soundtrack stand out so much? Matched only by the brutal nature of the game itself, the drum loops, bass lines and other miscellaneous funk provide an extremely satisfying mood for caving in Russian Mafia skull. It manages to get the blood pumping and fuel your desire for bloodshed - virtually that is :p. Upon listening only, it may seem like a repetitive throwback to the late 80s with it's techno beats, however it is the accompaniment with this game that makes it a perfect fit.

    Overall
    It will put off most people with its combination of retro design/graphics and ultra-violence. Give it a chance however, you'll likely end up a cold, hard killer, fixated on spilling some red pixels. You don't need to be that skilled with a controller either, once you've got it down anyway. HM is often on sale too, around the £1.50 mark - so it's hardly gunna break the bank! You'll also find it on the Playstation store for PS3&4.     I didn't finish it so I don't understand the storyline that good, it was really cryptic for the first half of the game. But    Surprisingly, it's a very good game.     Finally, we have an indie game that gets it. I can't say I'm surprised some people hate this game, and I thought I was going to hate it too, but I actually like it. It's got a methodical pace that you wouldn't expect from a "top-down shooter" as some "remarkably gifted" reviewer claimed it was. Also, awesome soundtrack.

    Awesome music, graphics and gameplay, but you may find it a bit hard all through the game but you will feel satisfied once you reached the ending! I wonder how Hotline Miami 2 will be?

    I can only play one or two stages at a time before rage quitting, but it's a fun game when you're on a killing streak. :) It is silly how you die instantly while others must be bludgeoned, punched, then stabbed...

    One of the best indie games I ever played. good story, addcting and well responsive gameplay, good soundtrack. The ending is...good, not great but overall is a good game. 8/10 (with a better ending I would totally give it a 9)

    The gameplay is fun, bloody and satisfying but can be frustrating because of bad AI, the enemies have really fast reflexes but ignore the bodies on the floor just next to them.
    You can beat this game doing stealth or just running and shooting, both tactics work and it's really fun, the weapons control very well and the aiming mechanic is effective so even with bad AI, the gameplay was a success.

    This game really surprised me with the philosophie and the bloody and satisfying gameplay, I really recommend it, it's not perfect and it is pretty short, but I do think it's worth it.    … Expand

    Już na samym początku rozgrywki rzucają się w oczy podobieństwa do filmu Drive z 2011 roku, dotyczy to szczególnie postaci głównego bohatera. W grze nie ograniczamy się jednak do roli kierowcy, jesteśmy zabójcą który bez chwili wahania gotowy jest odebrać komuś życie. Brutalność jest tutaj chlebem powszednim, wszędzie krew i porozrzucane części ciała. Nasz bohater nie przebiera w środkach,Już na samym początku rozgrywki rzucają się w oczy podobieństwa do filmu Drive z 2011 roku, dotyczy to szczególnie postaci głównego bohatera. W grze nie ograniczamy się jednak do roli kierowcy, jesteśmy zabójcą który bez chwili wahania gotowy jest odebrać komuś życie. Brutalność jest tutaj chlebem powszednim, wszędzie krew i porozrzucane części ciała. Nasz bohater nie przebiera w środkach, żeby dojść do celu. Dziwne, jak przy tak „oszczędnej” grafice udało się twórcom przedstawić to w tak dosadny sposób. Nie jest to może „kamień milowy” w historii elektronicznej rozrywki, raptem gra na kilka godzin. Oferuje nam jednak coś, co ostatnio rzadko daje się odczuć - prawdziwą frajdę płynącą z rozgrywki. Gorąco polecam! ;-)

    nice gameplay and old school graphics, insane characters, very hard die and retry and interesting scenario in someway ! one of the best die and retry i ever played. time to finished the game is pretty short but the difficulty can increased the longevity.

Одна из самых стильных игр прошлого десятилетия, и все эти эпитеты не мешают быть данной игре действительно увлекательной в геймплейном плане. Крошить пачками русских бандитов, которые чувствуют себя в Майами, как дома, потому что они живут на территории русско-американской коалиции (да, лор здесь тоже действительно увлекательный) - это весело. Иногда нужно помыслить мозгами, иногда нужно действовать по стелсу, и иногда это довольно сложно, но это всегда весело. Ну и я не могу не упомянуть про саундтрек, который тоже задал волну определённой синтвэйв и даунтемпо стилистики в игровой музыке (как не странно, El Huervo, треки которого были весьма запоминающимися в Hotline Miami, были также заглавными в игре SteamWorld Dig 2, которую я прошёл сразу же следующей, ничего об таком совпадении не подозревая.     Now, I can say that the game it's a very cool proposal, isn't an only violence and gore, this game come to the bottom of our minds, the personality problems, the inside conflicts, and many related things.
    This isn't a game about a person killing people, this is a game about us killing... something...

У меня реально проблемы со временем и памятью.     I really liked this game. Had fun most of the time. Got frustrated a lot, but I finished it. It certainly was an experience, I won't forget. Also I love isometry, so the game gets bonus points for that. Pickens approves.

    I like this game. Vaporwave aesthetics just fit the game. If they weren't, game would be 5/10 or less. Music made me appreciate vaporwave. Definitely a game to play on. Not for casuals though, this game is frustrating. It is a challenge, but maybe too much.

    Videojuego brutal, pero brutal de verdad en muchos sentidos. Brutal por lo sangriento que es. Brutal por lo tremendamente adictivo que es. Brutal porque no sabes que le esta pasando al personaje matando a centenares de mafiosos sin fin. El unico punto negativo que le veo al juego es la corta duración, a pesar de que es muy rejugable. Lo compre por 1,5€. Que más le puedo pedir?

    Hotline Miami - Невероятно драйвовый, двухмерный, пиксельный взрывной экшен 24/7 бросающий вызов. Пока сам не попробуешь, не поймешь в чем суть. Еще и с бомбическим саундтреком и с интересным сюжетом имеющий продолжение в виде второй части игры и даже комиксом. Играется не затянуто и на одном дыхании, всем советую.
    Итог - 7 пранков из 10    САМОРОДОК.
    Hotline Miami - Невероятно драйвовый, двухмерный, пиксельный взрывной экшен 24/7 бросающий вызов. Пока сам не попробуешь, не поймешь в чем суть. Еще и с бомбическим саундтреком и с интересным сюжетом имеющий продолжение в виде второй части игры и даже комиксом. Играется не затянуто и на одном дыхании, всем советую.

    It is very difficult to solve the logic of the chapter, so you have to try the chapter 300 times to solve it, but the feeling when you finish the chapter is very good.

    Um jogo curtinho pra se divertir com a rapidez na gameplay que Hotline Miami proporciona, e se você liga pra gráficos em pleno século XXI, deveria apreciar a    Frenético, alucinante e brutal são as palavras que definem Hotline Miami.

    Uno de los mejores juegos indie jamas creados. La musica es uno de sus puntos fuertes, pocas bandas sonoras encajan tanto con la jugabilidad como en Hotline Miami. La historia es bastante buena y de la jugabilidad ni se diga.

    From the get-go, Miami’s presentation has a unique style, with vivid colors, generous amounts of post-process filtering and a stunning soundtrack (you will just let the game play on, only to hear the tracks). But at the same time, all notions of continuous fast-paced action gameplay disappear. Hotline Miami is essentially a top-down stealth game, that rewards the player with imaginative (and quite violent) kill animations. [January 2013]
