How is it possible that a small group of people were able to create such a beautiful crafted gem?
Seriously this game has the best 2D artstyle I ever seen in a metroidvania and on top of it it has also a really solid and skillbased gameplay accompanied with dozens of awesome soundtracks.

It still does have some issues, but the game is almost perfect.
The moves you use are also very boring at the start of the game considering this is a platformer, but this changes when you unlock a couple more.

The smooth game play and expansive map exploration is rivaled only by its extremely interesting story. The gripping tale of a forgotten kingdom rotted with a mysterious sickness pushed me to discover and reach every corner of the map. The games’ map is clear and multiple systems make exploration even easier (map pins, the bug tram, dream gates). The gameplay itself is responsive. Discovering/learning to conquer difficult bosses and challenges felt rewarding. Hollow Knight offers various builds through the charm system, and I often swapped my playstyle to match whatever challenge I was facing. My most memorable moment has to be discovering and fighting the final boss. A perfect climax to game with great gameplay and a great narrative. My only critique of Hollow Knight would be the stacking difficulty added to multiple optional dream bosses. As fun and responsive as the games’ combat is, I found myself asking why some repetitive bosses multiplied damage to the extreme resulting in every mechanic chunking for almost the entire players health pool. These few optional encounters drained some of the fun out of an otherwise fantastic combat experience.
    DLC:
    - The Grimm Troupe (6/10 Nightmare Chores): Most of the Grimm Troupe DLC is not very fun. The DLC offers a needed currency dump for a couple upgraded charms and a long fetch quest chain that results in a decent charm addition. The added Grimm boss fight is one of the best in the game and the dream version is difficult but does not feel unfair like some of the base game stacked damage dream bosses.
    - Godmaster (4/10 Slog Gauntlet): I can see why Godhome may be a welcome addition for some players, but the repetitive and damage multiplier nature of the boss gauntlet was not very fun for me. Godhome consists of multiple boss gauntlets made up of previously seen encounters and a library of the same individual boss fights with stacking difficulty in both mechanics and damage multipliers. I do appreciate a few new bosses thrown into the mix but other than those, I found most of the gameplay here repetitive and not fun.

At its core, the game has several basic mechanics, namely research, plot, and combat system. The first two can be combined into one, but there is one exception. In Hollow Knight, the very process of exploring the world is made very entertaining. Level design is literally aerobatics. All locations are perfectly worked out in visual and gameplay terms, as well as with a proper attitude to the plot and fun. On the gameplay side, the developers have made a very flexible system with spells, nail strikes and skills, they are also amulets. Such a system creates a classless walkthrough in which you can try all the content. The game has literally a couple of disadvantages, namely long hikes to the bosses in case of death and that's it. I did not find any more minuses in the context of this work, there are some rough edges, but they are not even close to the advantages of this game. Hollow Knight is capable of present a deep and thoughtful plot and gameplay, a large and elaborate open world, with a bunch of secrets of skips based on game mechanics, as well as an amazing visual and musical performance. Hollow Knight is a masterfully crafted Metroidvania game that captivates players with its atmospheric world, precise gameplay mechanics, and rich lore. From the moment you step foot into the hauntingly beautiful kingdom of Hallownest, you are drawn into a mesmerizing adventure that will keep you hooked for hours on end.

One of the standout aspects of Hollow Knight is its exceptional art direction. The hand-drawn, insect-inspired visuals create a stunning and immersive world that is both eerie and enchanting. Each area is meticulously designed, with intricate details that bring the underground kingdom to life. From the hauntingly lit Forgotten Crossroads to the ethereal beauty of the City of Tears, every location is a visual feast that begs to be explored.

The gameplay in Hollow Knight is a true delight. The controls are tight and responsive, allowing for precise platforming and combat. The combat system is skill-based, requiring timing, strategy, and mastery of the diverse range of weapons and abilities at your disposal. Whether you're facing off against challenging bosses or navigating treacherous platforming sections, the gameplay always feels fair and rewarding.

The world of Hallownest is vast and interconnected, with a multitude of hidden secrets and pathways to discover. Exploration is key in Hollow Knight, and the joy of uncovering new areas and unlocking shortcuts is unmatched. The map system, while initially limited, adds to the sense of discovery as you gradually piece together the layout of the kingdom.

Another aspect that sets Hollow Knight apart is its deep and intricate lore. The game tells its story through environmental storytelling, cryptic NPCs, and tantalizing fragments of dialogue. Piecing together the history and unraveling the mysteries of Hallownest is a rewarding experience that keeps you engaged and invested in the world.

The hauntingly beautiful soundtrack deserves special mention. Composed by Christopher Larkin, the music perfectly complements the atmosphere of each area, evoking a wide range of emotions. From somber melodies that tug at your heartstrings to adrenaline-pumping tracks during intense boss battles, the score adds depth and enhances the overall immersion of the game.

The only minor drawback of Hollow Knight is its difficulty. Some players may find certain boss fights or platforming challenges particularly challenging, which could lead to frustration. However, the sense of accomplishment upon overcoming these obstacles is immensely satisfying and makes the journey all the more rewarding.

Overall, Hollow Knight is a shining example of what a Metroidvania game should be. With its stunning visuals, precise gameplay, deep lore, and memorable soundtrack, it stands as a testament to the craftsmanship and dedication of Team Cherry. Prepare to be immersed in a dark and enchanting world that will leave a lasting impression on your gaming journey.

Platform oyunu severseniz alın zaten baya ucuz. İndirim döneminde çiğ köfte sürümden bile ucuz oluyor.

A dark and beautiful Metroidvania with challenging yet fair combat and a rich sense of exploration that pulled me in the more I played. It's a game that I originally played a few years ago and put a few hours in before losing interest, but upon revisiting it this year I've realised that the depth of this game is outstanding and the high praise is absolutely fair.

Hollow Knight was better than I expected. However, I don't think it's perfect, or even one of the "best" games I've ever played. It's good, and there's fun to he had, but it has its flaws. 10/10 ratings are just disingenuous and I'll go over why. I like to start with the cons to get them out of the way first.

    Cons
    - Difficult, and not always in a good way. Some of the bosses are really fun and will have you on the edge of your seat. Others, however, will just leave you frustrated with cheap mechanics that turn the fight from a skill based dance into a luck base dodge fest. Some boss encounters will randomly spawn additional enemies with no pattern or indication. In fact, one boss is a constant trial of constantly spawning hazards that you have to contend with as you're fighting the boss. There is no way to recognize when or where they will spawn so you may be doing great, only to jump straight into one and it throws your whole tempo off and ramping up the frustration factor. Again, it turns the battle from one of skill into one of luck. Cross your fingers for a good spawning pattern.

    - The lack of respawn points will ensure that the trek back to some bosses is almost as difficult as the boss itself. There are one to two safe areas per zone, give or take, and maybe it will be close to the boss, or maybe it will be through 5 rooms, two of which will have difficult enemies you have to dispatch first. Along with the "fast travel" system being only one per zone, if even that, you'll find yourself.mapping out any journey you take, and you must return to zones multiple times to complete certain tasks. If the map wasn't such a maze with corridors that end and hallways that might not connect, you may find that your mapped out route is blocked and have to find another. With the complexity of the map, the fast travel system could be a bit more robust.

    - I personally enjoy the way they told the story in the game, but your goals are very arbitrary and a lot of people may not know where to go next. As a Dark Souls veteran, im used to finding the path I need to take, but it's not spelled out and very easy to lose your way. With the vast, complex map, it's going to be a lot for people who aren't good with their sense of direction. The game does a pretty good job in herding the player into the right direction. Basically if you haven't been somewhere, try to go. If you still can't get there, try somewhere else until you can. Which is great, but there is a lot of content that isn't explained and only vaguely hinted at. You'll find yourself just randomly going places and trying things until something eventually works.

    Pros
    - Controls are tight.
    - Music is grandiose.
    - Atmosphere is deep and changes frequently.
    - Traversal methods unlock and you will eventually be almost flying from one place to another.
    - Platforming challenges really teach you your potential and your limitations. They test your ability.
    - Fun characters and interactions.
    - Most boss fights are fun and engaging.
    - The game looks phenomenal.
    - It's an explorers dream.

Fundamentally, Hollow Knight is a very solid title and overall worth the price. I absolutely recommend it. However, it has some glaring flaws that reduce the experience.

and before yall go clicking away because this is a metroidvania.. I get it.. I don’t like metroidvanias either..
Bit I fell in love with hollow knight..
The first couple hours of this game is brutal..
you hop down the well and its sink or swim… youre killing these little bug creatures exploring the areas you can with oyur initial abilities.. and the game is just chewing you up and spitting you back out to the last bench you rested on..
this feels like a 2d dark souls game while youre getting the hand of things, helped by the fact that if you die you drop all of the cash you’ve collected along the way.. to get it back you have to defeat the ghost version of you…
thankfully though hollow knight does difficulty right,
This game isn’t unfair, it isn’t annoying.. its challenging in a genuine and addictive way..
it forces you to learn its rules, learn the patterns of the creatures that surrounds you.. it slowly builds you up.. makes you stronger throughout your journey of uncovering secrets, unlocking new moves and abilities.. slaying bosses.. and exploring this forgotten kingdom.
Every area here feels so different despite simultaneously feeling connected, they all have their own adorable little enemies that are out to drain your soul, little caterpillar worm creatures for you to save, bosses and secrets to enhance your stats or abilities..
This is such a special risk and reward game, collecting coins, attacking enemies to gain some soul juice to heal yourself and push forward inching closer to the next checkpoint, or trying to travel to the closest fast travel area to go spend your hard earned money on a new upgrade or map…
and exploring the world is such a thrull from start to finish… I felt an urge to see it all, despite the game trying its hardest to stop me with its challenging platforming and enemy encounters..
I couldn’t believe how deeply I fell in love with hollow knight.. pun intended…
this is by far the best metroidvania game ive ever played.. and every gamer type should give this game a chance at least until its first boss battle.. it was then that I fell in love.. its then when I realized how special of a ride I was about to go on..
    I give Hollow Knight
    an 8.5/10

In case the ending is awful I havent finished it but the tale is of retribution in a poisened land.

Yes its familiar but it is so lovingly presented and told the cliches do not stick in the mind - the clever level design and frantic button mashing does instead.

It claims to allow you to go your own way in this tale - but do not expect Skyrim here.

The story and puzzle solving reveals as you gain new abilities - rewarded from a mix of story boss fights and exploration.

That shortcoming aside - this is a great experience, presented so well you forget you have played a similar game before.

I was very lukewarm on this game for the first 2 hours or so; I liked it, but I wouldn't recommend it. When I unlocked the dash, I was immediately far more interested. When I unlocked wall jumping I fell in love.

The primary thing I desire in a game is solid controls and fun mechanics. My God is this game fun to control once you unlock those abilities (and range extenders for your trusty nail!). The way the world opens up with these moves as well is just brilliant.

I'm a huge fan of metroidvania games, my favourite of all tie being Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, and Ori and the Blind Forest. I haven't completed this game yet but it's definitely contending for a spot on the list.

This game really gets everything right for me once you unlock those two abilities; the fact that it takes a little longer than it should is going to mean I have to dock a couple of points though because the game play is really mediocre before then.

Ancak bu 2d aksiyon platform oyunları için geçerli değil. Çünkü aynı yerleri sık sık dolaşmanız gerekiyor. E gittiğin yollar klasik açık dünya oyunları gibi güvenli değil. Her yer tehlikeli. Aynı üçük can sıkıcı yaratıkları kesmen, aynı dikenli çukurlardan atlaman gerekiyor.

Sonuç olarak keşfetmeyi ve zorlanmayı seven oyuncular için en iyi seçeneklerden birisi. Bana uygun olmamasına rağmen sevdim ama herkes gibi ayılıp bayılamadım maalesef. Çok benzer tarzdaki Ori and the Will of the Wisps'i çok sevmiştim.

I had to remedy the controls. I switched the jump key to the up arrow to coincide with the other movement keys. It would have been a 7/10 otherwise. The gameplay is simple enough.

This game is really good. But it's not perfect. Might I even say, it's a bit overrated? The main problem I have with this game is how directionless you feel while exploring. I don't like how the game fails to give you sufficient motivation for huge chunks of the play time. You don't even know what your goal is for a good 4--6 hours, and even once the goal is revealed to you, the actual way there is not well indicated. The game actually has a really interesting lore and story, but you aren't privy to that knowledge until you've almost finished your first playthrough. This makes the endgame even more fun than in your standard Metroidvainia, but it leaves your first playthrough with a lot to be desired. Another problem is your movement. You get THREE basic movement upgrades above walking and jumping. This means the platforming falls by the wayside; it never gets good. The deep combat is instead the focus, while is great, don't get me wrong, but when enemies become easy and their rewards become minimal, it's revealed how boring traversal is. My final issue with the game is the area design. At least four different areas have the same 'barren, black rock' aesthetic and the music doesn't do a good job of distinguishing them either.
After all that, you wander why I gave this an 8/10. It's because, other than my main issues and some rather petty nitpicks, everything is amazing. When the music actually decides to pick up, it picks up hard. The combat mechanics, coupled with the variety of enemies, is always challenging and engaging. As previously stated, the lore and story is really good when it gets going and will keep you hooked even after the credits have rolled for each of the five separate endings. The character enemy, and (some of) the area designs are well done as well. This game deserves most of the praise it has received, but be aware that it is not the genre defining perfection that it often cited as.

The second Metroidvania I’ve played, after Ori and the Will of Wisps on Xbox. I enjoyed Hollow Knight a lot but do prefer Ori.

    Gameplay

Hollow Knight has some really well-polished gameplay. It involves platforming and 2d side-scrolling type combat which feels great and well-controlled. The character hits well and I have no issues with the manner in which it works. As you progress in the game you unlock further movement abilities to enhance the experience and make navigation more enjoyable and creative. You will also gather more spells so that you can diversify content a little bit. The platforming feels good and for the most part, works well. Not being too difficult and overall is well designed to make it clear in the platforming where to go. There is a big focus on exploration in the game which is done with a large open-world map with lots of hidden areas and places to explore, areas have unique enemies and even some environmental hazards. The charms system works well to create a diverse and unique build combination that can play on how you want the game to go. You can enhance the spells or melee combat or focus on sustainability if that’s what you prefer. The charms serve as one of the many collectibles in the game that are common in Metroidvania. While the gameplay in these aspects is quite good it also serves some issues. The combat is rather limited and doesn’t offer many styles of combat at all, you have the one melee weapon that you can make longer or quicker with the charms but other than that there are no options. There are only three spells in the game that have no customization options aside from making them stronger with a charm, each spell has its uses but the lack of options for combat can make it repetitive and offers little in the ways of replayability, you can’t really change combat strategies. The platforming while good is a bit confusing in some later areas of the game (SPOILERS AHEAD) In White Palace which is supposed to be difficult the platforming in parts isn’t clear exactly on where to go and can be confusing, in one part a platform that looks like the background is required to be jumped on and it took me a bit to realize it was a platform and not the background. While the platforming in this section is difficult the design of some of the sections makes it unclear how to proceed, especially with so few areas like this in the game. (END OF SPOILERS) Exploration I will discuss more in the story section. The charms are great but it does feel like a few of them are way more useful than all the others and as such are an almost necessity to have on a build, this is a result of those charms being really good and other charms not being nearly as good so it feels like the diversity can be a bit shallow.

    Story

The story is by far the worst done aspect of the game. It is okay to have little information revealed in a game but Hollow Knight starts you with virtually nothing, you don’t really have a clear objective and just have to wander around in order to find the story which you will several hours in. While I didn’t mind this it can definitely be a big turn-off to players as I several times, in the beginning, was just confused as to why I was doing the things I was doing. The lack of explanation of the objective at the beginning takes away from much of the early game as you mindlessly fight through enemies and bosses for some unknown purpose. The actual story itself is fairly standard and I don’t have any issues with it.

    Art Style

The art in the game is quite gorgeous. Several areas in the game have beautiful and unique backgrounds. Each area features custom-designed enemies as well with unique animations and attacks. The character is well designed and looks great with a good animation set. The one complaint I have about the art is that it is not very diverse, it features a lot of the same colors and some areas also look very similar, while this is in line with the setting of the game it does make traversing some areas not as enjoyable.

    Soundtrack

Great soundtrack with many unique pieces that fit well with the theme of each area or boss, no complaints.

    Conclusion

Hollow Knight is a fantastic game with a lot of great content that is incredibly well made. It does however lack diversity and is unclear in presenting its objectives. That being said I do highly recommend the game, it is difficult in a way similar to dark souls and very enjoyable.

8/10. Only major complaint is that exploration gets a bit tedious and while exploration is rewarded, still gets bothersome and I end up just googling where to go. Also the game isn't particularly small, but isn't big either.

All gameplay mechanics can be described in one word - metroidvania. It is just a well-maid, balanced mix of platforming and boss fights. The main advantage, which does that game unique, is visual style. Every location is completely different, with its own enemies and atmosphere.
The only thing that scares you from the beginning is map size. I've spent about 100 hours to complete the game.

A decent game with nice graphics. Interesting bosses, story and overall balance of the game, I can't call it hardcore.

Most areas in the game have cut off sections that require Skill A, B, C etc so you will find yourself revisiting the same areas over and over again. I also found the maps not detailed enough. It shows just a massive room with no detail whereas it should be showing the tunnels and maze if we already went through it multiple times. You have markers but cannot add text to the markers, making them significantly less useful. Indoor locations have no map whatsoever. Many of the areas are build like mazes, which was annoying because of this.

Currency felt pretty useless very early on. I found myself with tens of thousands of currency with nothing to spend it on. The first 5-10 hours required currency and the other 20+ hours I basically needed none whatsoever. Definitely missing some vendors or stocked items here.

While bosses can be annoying to deal with at times, in particular due to the map layout and often long backtracking (up to 15 minutes per attempt in some cases), they are overall pretty fun. The mechanics are done well and after 2-3 attempts I found myself having learned their moveset and timings enough to beat them. You cannot brute force them which was nice.

Overall a good game with some annoyances.

Hollow Knight is polished and definitely worth a buy on sale, but trying to do multiple moves and attacks feels sluggish. The storyline is also utter gibberish and I gave up trying to understand anything.

Coming from Axiom Verge where the controls feel sharp and responsive, I don't remember once ever blaming the controls when I died in Axiom Verge. If I died, I *knew* it was my fault.

Hollow Knight is *not* like this. Going from one quick move/attack to another feels sluggish. So many times I died during a boss battle and it felt unfair because I *did* hit the button to attack, but my character didn't respond because he was taking his time finishing his last sword swipe and probably having a cup of coffee in between.

There are one or two powerups that make you a little more responsive, but it's too little and too late in the game. You also shouldn't need to waste powerups making your character simply *playable*.

The storyline and dialog are nonsense. I have no idea what they're going on about and there's too many references to names and places that mean nothing to me. If you want to make names and places mean something, then my character has to be actively involved in those things for me to remember it or even care. If I have to look up some explanation video online, it means there's a failure in storytelling. I don't have time to look up basic stuff that should be accessible/understandable in-game.

The other thing was that every section of the map has a depressing mood, and most of the characters are gloomy or downcast in some way. There are some really beautiful sections of the map, but it is a pity that everything has this somber mood and music. The storyline might call for it, but at the end of the day the player has to put up with it and have a desire to keep coming back to the game.

I liked the game enough to persevere to the end, and I really liked how many classic platform moves were incorporated, such as the DuckTales-like pogo/bounce attack.

One other minor issue is that I played this game after all the DLC was released. Some DLC portions of the map felt a little disjointed and separate from the main game, but that is understandable since they were tacked on later.

Also, I ignored this game for years because I thought it was just another DLC for Shovel Knight. I never cared enough to actually find out it was an unrelated game. I mean really, why use "knight" in the title and create the character with horns that looks like Shovel Knight's helmet?

It throws you in an environment that explains NOTHING, and while that *CAN* be good, it is NOT done well. First of all you collect a currency that is apparently extremely important in the game. But, the game tells you zero information about it. That could be fine and well if it didn't have a mechanic that zeroes your currency without ever being informed that can be possible. Not only that, but it throws the player immediately into some of its most hard to navigate and survive levels. In general the game tries to keep a "mystery" and "hard" element, but it becomes a disaster because it overdoes it with those two elements. Games are boring when they are too easy, or when they are too hand-holded, that is true, but this has passed the threshold of excess. This is a game about being wandering around lost in a network of gorgeous caves. But when I mean lost, I don't mean "lost in thought" or "lost in wonder", I mean lost as in "walking back and forth with no idea where you're are or where you're supposed to be going. The late game really goes off the rails, giving you destinations but no idea how to get there. How do you get to boss in the bottom of the map? Going to the far top right of the map, of course, and getting an easily-missed upgrade! I didn't check one path because I thought I had already been there, and paid for it with literally over three hours of wandering. This game can NOT be played without a guide.

There is more to this game, but the vast majority is wandering around lost, so I won't get into too much detail. Combat is tight but extremely repetitive - you use your basic sword (called a Nail) for the entire game. Your "special attacks" amount to a magic blast up, a magic dive down, and a magic ball forward. You get all three seperately to enhance the illusion of progression and variety.

There is one good thing to say, though! This game is gorgeous. There's no two ways about it! Almost the entirety of the game takes place underground, but despite this every area is distinct and the ambiance is different. The shining and ethereal Crystal Peak, the creepy Deepnest, the desolate Dirtmouth, and the barren Ancient Basin. Best of all is the City of Tears, an ancient, abandoned city where it is contantly "raining".

But really, this is a game to watch, not one worth playing. Get some poor sucker to play it nearby and enjoy the ambience from a distance. Otherwise you're going to be spending hours hunting that one switch in that one room that will open the path to that one ability that will let you get to that one quest spot.

This has to be the most annoying metroid-like game I've played. It is not too difficult but it just plays this specific game on the player. It makes you want to throw your joystick at the wall. Although I like it, I always leave it with a feeling of un-satisfaction. I've played a lot of games when the norm is to die a lot. Not the case here - as the norm is to be annoyed a lot instead.

I really dislike this game for a variety of reasons, and while it might be that Metroidvania games just aren't for me, I think there are a few ways that Hollow Knight can improve to make it a much better experience for any gamer, not just fans of the Metroid series.

    The good:

    * The level design is great and every overworld feels expansive
    * Hollow Knight controls fluidly and attacks feel responsive
    * In terms of presentation, the game is extremely polished and well thought out.

    The bad:

    * The pacing of the game is very bad in the beginning. Most players will struggle to find upgrades for Hollow Knight and while some areas are clearly inaccessible due to lack of upgrades, there are simply too many instances of inaccessibility to keep track of. This is something that Metroid games do well; they give you enough cognitive load so that you can understand what you can come back for without feeling overwhelming. They do this by keeping the scope small at first and then gradually opening the game.
    * The game itself is very unfun. Most of the areas, while extremely polished, look exactly the same and aren't really very unique. The game really didn't keep me engaged as I would have liked from a modern sidescroller and I found myself getting bored often. The combat, while responsive, also isn't very fun. Maybe I didn't unlock enough parts of Hollow Knight, but an hour and a half in I still hadn't found any upgrades to spice things up or make it easier to kill enemies.
    * The enemies are mostly unoriginal. You'll find your same old walkers, sprinters, jumpers, knights, etc. Some bosses have the same types of attacks and weaknesses. I would have liked to see some more creative enemies that aren't so similar. Games like Shovel Knight do this well; enemies are extremely varied, have different properties, and bosses usually have very unique mechanics.
    * The sound is very hit or miss, mostly being a miss. The thwacks and the thumps of being engaged in combat aren't satisfying and a lot of creatures sound mostly the same. It's almost as if the sound designer had no idea what compression is.
    * You lose all of your credits when you die. This was quite possibly the most frustrating thing for me. I was on my way to grab an item in Dirtmouth when I ran into a boss while having low health and naturally, I died. It spawned me at a save station and all of that progress I had made was gone. This seems like a really outdated mechanic and I would like to see other solutions that don't involve losing all of your progress. Maybe provide a save station next to boss encounters or restart boss encounters given that your players will be fighting the boss many times... etc.

Totally horrible level design. The game looks and sounds gorgeous, but it has some severe backtracking issues. Now, you would thing "Ok, this is Metroidvania, of course there's backtracking". But, there's backtracking, which is why we all enjoy the genre, and there's Backtracking. When you literally has to cross the map from one point to the other, because somebody decided not to put fast travel anywhere close. It will literally take you 2-3 minutes of real time to get where you need.
So yeah, you come to a point when you get a new skill, look at where you could use it and literally go "Nope, not going there again, Deepnest".
Some bosses, like the Hive Knight and Traitor Lord are especially notorious for this. Hive Knight is literally 5 minutes of real time platforming and fighting away from the bench.
Do yourself a favor, and farm for Dreamgate which allows you to set a teleport before a boss.
Also, if you don't like extensive platforming, stay away from this game. By the end of it, you'll feel like you're playing some Super Meat Boy.

I completed this game, even all the side quest. It's basically Dark Soul in nut shell. There are good things about this game, good map, different style of storytelling, character designs, etc. But, I don't think the game system is fair and balanced, it's punishing system discourage players to play through the game, and action and movement are quite stiff to me.

While it has good combat system, it eventually gets very boring. Hollow knight is not very rewarding. It feels like a shameless ripoff of Dark Souls. Classic Metroidvanias rewards for exploring, but for Hollow Knight opposite is true. Useless platforms, and lack of rewarding doesn't incentivize the exploring.

Hollow knight has good things, but navigation makes it unnecessarily long, the map is full of empty areas, you will have to deal with 80h only for travel, the full length game must be 150h...

And now imagine people going to play Silksong after they beat everything in HK...?

Totally boring with needless retreading of steps to go back and forth to the shop etc, the fast travel train is out of the way and doesn't even speed up the process. A lot of time spent running around aimlessly and there no impetus or something of interest to keep going. Cuphead is a more action packed version of Hollow Knight with no filler and more challenge. Salt and Sanctuary or Vigil the Longest Night, or Bloodstained have better atmosphere and worlds and more rewarding and engaging gameplay with reward for exploration and they draw you further in. Every area in Hollow Knight is just boring and repetitive to traverse. The platforming is boring and you can just literally switch off and have go through the motions especially when you have already been through that section 10 times already. Rayman Legends has much better levels than this. The levels are much more dense in that game and actually have effort put into making them fun with variety. When you buy the key at the start you open a door all there is inside is literally a person that tells you that she can't help you. Wow that was worth buying. Then you finally get the wings and go all the way across to a once locked area and its just another shop. Again no reward.

The dialogue is cringeworthy gibberish. Dirtmouth, Greenpath? That should tell you how stupid the writing is in this game. And don't get me started on the annoying sounds the characters make. Totally boring game with stiff controls, repetitive gameplay and stale graphics. Only saving grace is the music which is OK but also just a drone in the background and isn't evocative of anything and doesn't build the world or tell any sort of story.

    - Hollow Knight's story is not impressed!
    - This is a 2D Side-scrolling game, I have nothing to say about the graphics.
    - The character's ability is boring.
-> I felt free in Ori and the blind forest more than Hollow Knight.

This game wants to be Dark Souls so bad that it hurts the gaming experience. So tired of people trying to remake dark souls in their games. You die? One of the worst designed video games.
Terrible boss patterns and the checkpoint system is just awful.
It's not bad because it's hard. It's bad because you have to do the same stuff all over again because the checkpoint system/bench is AWFUL. The only good thing about this game is the art style but that's it. Story is bad too, like it's so cryptic. Probably the most overhype game

Just a much worse all-around version of Ori and Sundered. Not worth playing. Just play those other two games instead. I regret my $5 purchase. This kind of extremely overrated game is why I'm going to stick to "try before you buy". Bad games like this make you thankful for good ones like Ori and Sundered.

Map is awful, for the first 1+ hour of the game you just run around aimlessly. And actually it doesn't get that much better. There are no real objectives or objective markers, you kind of just wander around a massive maze. The whole game is incredibly maze-like. And there's so much back tracking through areas you've already been in.

There's a bug where it sometimes doesn't register a jump when you're near an edge.

There are poor design things like your basic attack pushing you backwards so if you ever attack someone when you're near an edge (extremely common) you fall off and frequently die or have to trek back up a long path.

There's much about the combat, enemies, level design, etc. that seems poorly designed and unresponsive.

There's a core gameplay mechanic it never tells you about. You have to do a web search once you reach a point where it's mandatory to progress, and you'll find out that lots of other people played 15+ hours of the game so far without knowing about it as well.

Another example is a spot that is nothing special but it just so happens that there's a combination/timing that is ridiculously hard to do in an area that you should just be quickly passing through. There are other areas where you can get trapped in an area you don't have the movement abilities to get out of, and you do a web search and find out it's common and the solution is to quit to the main menu to teleport back to a save point.

If a trainer/mods for invincibility wasn't available I'd have uninstalled early on. It would be a total waste of time doing the same monotonous things over and over. I just tried to get it over with as quickly as possible.

This is the type of game that has the mentality of "extremely hard = fun". It just goes way overboard with the difficulty that even with invincibility on some of the bosses are ridiculous. IE: you dodge for 20 seconds then hit him once. Repeat 20-30 times. Then comes the second wave. Memorize all the attack patterns, dodge for 15 seconds, hit him once, repeat 30+ times. Naturally you'll die numerous times, and thus have to repeat the entire thing over and over. FUN!

You spend 15 minutes climbing up an area then the floor collapses under you and you have to spend another 10 minutes climbing back up. FUN! Then once you get back up there you find out it's the wrong way! FUN!

Hollow Knight is one of the best 2D platformers I’ve ever played - it is a beautiful, quirky and dynamic game; challenging yet rewarding; mournful yet brimming with hope. When it comes to console, it’s going to cause a real stir.

Hollow Knight is a Metroidvania with a well of content to discover that’s as deep as its labyrinthine caves. The world of Hallownest is compelling and rich, full of story that’s left for you to discover on your own, and built with branching paths that offer an absurd amount of choice in how you go about discovering it. With such a high density of secrets to find and fun, challenging enemies to face, it’s worth spending every moment you can in Hollow Knight.
