I have been playing it a lot for a year. It is clearly the best MOBA game in the market right now. Better than LoL or Dota 2, by a large margin.

The MOBA genre was born out of mods for earlier RTS games. They proved really successful, so standalone versions like LoL were introduced. Problem is, those earlier mods depended on RTS engines like Warcraft 3, and many concepts of those mods were influenced by those games, while really not making much sense. When LoL and Dota 2 copied those mods, they brought these problems in their games as well.

Other MOBAs rely too much on last hitting, which is a very boring thing to do, and have concepts like "carries", which is stupid. You are spending at least half the game's time laning mindlessly for gold.

Also, other MOBAs are playing only on 1 main map, with clear cookie cutter builds everyone copies from the others. The supposed "depth" doesn't really exist, it is an illusion, all you have to do is follow the "meta", last hit for 20 minutes, and then play another 20-30 minutes when you already know the outcome of the game but can't really leave.

Heroes, a fresh take on the gerne, removes many of those problems. No last hitting, shared team experience, lots of different maps with different strategies, removal of items, you instead get talent choices unique per hero. The laning phase is quite short and not that tedious, then the game becomes action-packed. Comebacks are extremely common, you don't really know what will happen until the very end.

It is deceptively deep as a game, in my opinion much deeper than LoL or Dota 2. While you can "learn" the basics really easily, and it really is the best MOBA for a newcomer to get into, you have a loooooong way to go before you understand how each map should be played, how heroes synergise with and against each other, and how to teamfight properly.

Also, it is probably the best F2P model i have ever seen. Ignore the haters, you can be 100% competitive and have fun without ever spending a single cent. All heroes are available with purchase for in game gold. Match gold gain rates are really slow, but the game features "daily" quest that are completed very easily and provide lots of gold. Just completing these dailies in PvP games will take 1 hour per day and will allow you to buy plenty of heroes per month, alongside all the other gold bonuses you get from leveling up and other promotions/events. Skins and mounts are costly when not on-sale, but the game has to make money from somewhere, and they are purely cosmetic.

The main problem of this game, is the matchmaking system, which is really bad and easily exploitable. If you have friends to play with, this game will be a blast, but if you are solo, this game can be frustrating. Since this game is the most team-oriented of the MOBAs, your individual influence is very low. If you have trolls, afkers, or just bad players, you may lose games while still playing really well. But still, the game is worth it, even with the bad matchmaking.

So, if you like MOBAs or want to get into MOBAs, this is the game for you. If you don't like past MOBAs, this may be the game for you. It is free, just try it!

One of my all time favourite games. Most of my collection is from loot and gold. I only tend to spend money on the xp boosts. I thoroughly enjoy playing this game all the time. There aren't many games that holds my attention anymore, but this one certainly does.

Thats just stupid, especially because the reasoning behind it is almost the most dumb **** i ever read. Its a TEAM game, get over it. It is so from the very beginning of HotS. So no more single snowballing like crazy and then roll over 5 other people solo just because 1-2 in your team are very bad. In HotS there is actually very low snowballing if any at all. And thats good. work as a team or lose, thats how it works. And it is free 2 play. but you dont ever have to buy anything for money. and people complaining about that its too much grind... League of Legends has almost the same if not even more grind. You have to level your account then get champions and then get runes etc. that takes a **** ton of time.

And people complaining about it beeing slow? What are those people smoking? Should i remember you of the very very slow and BORING first 15 minutes in a League of Legends game? Where you sit in lane, do stupid last hiting while you fall asleep? In HotS you have action after the first 1-2 minutes, you dont need 5 minutes to even get all of your spells. And most important, the games dont last like 45 minutes that a big big plus in my opinion. And much more important not just ONE stupid map all the time, the maps are awesome in HotS and gets the OLD MOBA genre a very very fresha nd good vibe and feel to it.

First-of-all, the real score for this game is 9/10, but I don't mind giving a perfect score to counteract the trolls who haven't even tried the game.

I've played the game since technical alpha. I've seen it evolve through the year from input-laggy, bland, unpolished game with potential to one of the best 5v5 brawler games. Note that I don't say MOBA, but brawler, not because of Blizzard

I've played the game since technical alpha. I've seen it evolve through the year from input-laggy, bland, unpolished game with potential to one of the best 5v5 brawler games. Note that I don't say MOBA, but brawler, not because of Blizzard marketing but because putting HotS together with DotA and LoL is like putting CoD and TF2 in FPS bucket - pointless.

To understand why HotS is a great game you have to look at it from an unbiased position. you have to unlearn what you've learned, as Yoda would say. It is not enough to say that there is no last-hitting, experience is shared and there are several maps to describe HotS. This game is fundamentally different from DotA and LoL and even Smite, however, if you're a fan of one of these games and try out HotS you will miss out on its promise.

As a game centered around various maps and completing objectives against enemy team, this game has no equal. It is a 20-25 minute stress-test, where to win you have not only to fight the enemy team but to know what to do on the map to maximise the potential, and since the game is short, you have very little time to make a decision. This is what makes HotS so compelling.. The pace of the game, the objectives and lack of last hitting/laning requires a different approach to thinking about the whole process.

When is it safe to take the boss? When will the siege camp do most damage? Should we sacrifice the objective in favour of a sneaky play? Which ultimate ability suits the map, the enemy team and own team composition? The clock is ticking...

Objectively, the game has stellar Blizzard polish. The interface is minimalistic and slick, graphics are improved from SC2 and the colors are much more pronounced. The heroes are well animated and the in-game dialogue is often humorous.

This game is not better or worse than DotA2. It is a different game with a different skill set and on its own it's a masterpiece of Blizzard design once again. My advice if you come from MOBAs is to give it a solid try, not 2-3 games but a 100. After all, I doubt anyone learnedan DotA in less than a 100 games and HotS is no different. Only then will the underlying mechanics become more apparent.

Let me start by saying I don't like MOBA's. Even from the SC mod and the DOTA mod. I don't mind them but just didn't find them fun... So when I got Beta to HOTS in January I was sceptical when I tried it, largely due to the LOL and DOTA2 fans biased views.

Boy am I glad I tried it!! I wouldn't say its the best game since sliced bread but it is A LOT of fun! And to me that's the most

It's not a DotA copy, for God's sake.
It looks like a moba but it has a lot of differences. First, last hit doesn't matter, what makes a lot funnier to play. There is too little farming and the game forces team fights.
The experience is global to the team, so, as long as one member is near a death, the whole team gets xp, what makes you play more like a team and eliminates the carrier

The experience is global to the team, so, as long as one member is near a death, the whole team gets xp, what makes you play more like a team and eliminates the carrier role and the support that would help the carrier to level, is focused on healing, disabling and crowd controlling.
Every map has objectives that spawns from time to time and helps the teams to get the upper hand, this is when the game almost forces team fights, and helps the matches to be faster (around 12 minutes vs bot, 21 minutes vs players).
The heroes have all theirs skills unlocked (except the the 2 ults, that you have to choose at level 10) from the beginning of the match and at some levels (1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 20) they have to choose a talent, that gives additional effects for the skills or even unlocks more skills. This is the personalization you get for your during matches, there is no item shop, what makes easier to new player to learn how to play.
Although it seen too casual because it's easy to learn, it's not so easy to master.
Most people complains because HotS is too different from DotA. I played DotA 2, League of Legends and Strife, but for me, this is the funniest game of the gender. Do you want to play a game like DotA, play DotA or it's copies. Do you want a different game, try HotS.

Great! The best MOBA out there. No more bad game mechanics of last hitting. No longer do you have to compete against your team in a team game. Its a fresh, fast, streamlining of what a MOBA should be. For the first time a MOBA feels like it was designed by professionals. Leaving in the good bits and removing the toxic bits. No items, but the logic is the same: "talents" in HotS function as "items" in LoL/DotA because of the restrictive nature of certain "builds" in LoL/DotA; the system is just more streamlined; you don't need to bother with annoying formulas, and you don't need to look at or buy items that will be useless for your hero; you simply pick which "talent" you'd like, and it improves your hero to your liking. The system is great, in my opinion.

The strategies are different than those in LoL or DOTA2, and if you like those games the way they are, HotS may not be for you.

But if you've been frustrated by mechanics that seem out-of-place, if you're tired of being carried or trying to carry, and tired of 40+ minute matches, HotS could be perfect for you.

Items are gone, replaced by Talents and a variety of well-balanced maps. There's less emphasis on personally ensuring your team's victory and much more on creating synergies within your team and controlling the battleground.

The graphics are gorgeous, though the game still needs performance polishing for team-fights where FPS can dip by 20 or more.

HotS feels like everything MOBAs always should have been. If you've never tried a MOBA, this is definitely the place to start.

This is by far the best MOBA out there. It is relatively easy to pick up, it is fast paced but doesn't feel rushed. The game is very strategic so I disagree wholeheartedly with those that say it isn't. If you go into this game expecting LoL or DOTA but with blizzard champions you'll be disappointed. However, I do believe that this game takes the flaws in those games and fixes them and makes this game more fun. The gold has gotten better in the recent past with extra level up gold. Also every time you get a hero to level 5 you get gold so if you grind to 5 with that week's free heroes + daily quests that range from 200 - 800 you'll find the gold grind isn't as bad as some games where you only get a first win of the day bonus. Well lets put it this way, I have been in since alpha, I am only lvl 26 and I still enjoy it. HoTS is a casual mobo and I like it for that, its heavily team-play oriented and objective focused and is really a masterpiece to be honest.

Personally I have used money on the game to buy the new years skin for lili and chen, and to get the sparkly pony mount. but other than that I have 7 heroes plus the free rotational ones so I have a big bunch to play around with and that is only with gold earned ingame.

Gone are the generic itemisation of the traditional MOBA games, replaced by a talent system that is specific to each hero, which offers more unique customisation to that hero, something which you don't get with a universal item system.
Multiple maps gives players something new to experience every time they play, different team-comps works very different on each map and players will need to adapt and strategize.
Games are usually 15 mins long with both teams going at each-other from the start, players no longer needs to sit in lane making sure they get their last hits with the item shop gone. The shared experience (which is equivalent to the economy system) is the same across a team, encouraging players to rotate and help out team-mates without worrying they could have gotten more last hits and power for themselves. It also means one player can't have all the power funnelled into them and snowball out of control (which is a one of the primary goal in traditional MOBAs), therefore you have to work with their team to overcome the enemy team without being artificially more powerful than everyone else.
Whilst the core game-play is hugely exciting, there are still some problems with things such as ranked modes and matchmaking at times. Though the game is very new and Blizzard has acknowledged the issues and are working on it.
Whether you're a fan of MOBA games or not, Heroes of the storm is definitely worth a try.

Getting heroes is a bit slow, but there are 4 ways (playing games, daily quests, leveling of player, leveling of hero) of getting the gold used to buy heroes without paying money. In addition there are 7 free to play heroes each week. Notice that some heroes are less expensive than others, and this does not necessarily correlate to how strong the hero is.

    On team game play:
Yes, the game is heavily team dependent, just as a team game should be. It is nice that the goal is to play with your team rather than against your team. The is no need for kill stealing or last hitting. As it is very team dependent, voice chat is helpful and just about mandatory for playing at a high level. Many players use skype or teamspeak.

    On quick match:
For playing casually, not highly competitive. Try to keep this in mind before complaining about matchmaking or getting upset with your team. The draft in ranked is ideal for selecting appropriate heroes for the map and situation.

    On ranked:
Hero league is not perfect, but nothing is. There is not a reliable way to gauge individual skill in a team game, most methods can be manipulated with a little creativity. That being said I am glad there is not a leaderboard for individuals. What I do like is that, although slightly slow, the matchmaking system attempts to match both players of similar skill and parties of similar sizes. Because of this it is not a requirement to play with groups of 4 or 5 to get to rank 1 (I didn't). Team league will accurately show the skill of a team, but at the moment there are a whole lot of people playing with full teams at that level yet. Rank 1 hero league is not roughly the top 2% as described, but more like roughly top 10% in a system made to help people feel good.

    On toxicity:
It is human nature for people to blame anyone but themselves. It is still somewhat uncommon in this new game but has steadily increased since the alpha. I would suggest either muting the chat and communicating through pings (default is G) or grouping with players who you can trust to be reasonably friendly. In fact, most of the reason I got to rank 1 was by playing with people I could rely on to work as a team, rather than exclusively playing with very skilled players (the ranking system takes into account who you play with unless they throw their mmr by intentionally losing - this is unfortunately how the system can be manipulated).

    On balancing/patches:
The games is relatively balanced at the moment. Big changes only come every couple months, but at least this gives players time for things to settle and builds to be experimented with before the meta is changed with the next patch.

    Tips for getting good:
Pay attention to what works and what doesn't. Hotslogs (google it) gives good statistics for this. Just like any moba, knowing how each hero is played prepares you to play against and counter them. As mentioned earlier you will likely see a boost in your win rate when you play with people who work together.

I love it! it's a refreshing spin on mobas. i was an avid League of legends player and a fan of games like starcraft/ diablo already. The games don't snowball the same way they do in league. Some maps are pretty hard. You have to balance objectives with lane-ing which is a challenge but can turn a loosing game into a winning one. I'm excited to see where this game goes in a few years.

I still rate HoN over Dota 2 and LoL, due to the fact that it was the first after the original Dota and it had the best mechanics, LoL is just a bad version for the masses and noobs and Dota 2's mechanics are just clunky and slow... However I started to tire of the genre, since there was little innovation going around and everyone was just copying IceFrog's original formula. This was until Heroes of the Storm came out. I was immediately excited to see that it had a different take on them and I was skeptical at first due to the itemization being removed.. but boy oh boy, did it streamline the game. The mechanics are perfected from their Diablo 3 game and HoTs has won me over as the reigning KING of MOBA's now. Sure Blizzard is a money making machine now, with their slightly overpriced models, but you can earn everything without paying, you just have to put in the time.. which you will as this game is highly addictive. This is the quintessential Moba now and the others better be scared as Blizzard has created a beautifully fun game with great combat mechanics and fast paced gameplay. 10/10 from me. Expand

I own 15 or so, and that's just from using the in-game gold, mostly from daily quest rewards. Bought a new computer just for this game. About to buy another one for the family. It's crazy to think of how much money I spent on WoW, and yet spent nothing on this. What a deal! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the first MOBA I actually have over 200 matches played, and I am still playing it a lot. It is not necessarily a casual game, it is accessible to players new to MOBAs ,or veterans for the matter ( Ranked Mode ). It is also very unique since it uses the Talent System, and it has no items. The game is also full of nice little details and easter eggs ( such as heroes talking to eachother before the match actually starts ) .
Also, the heroes are all from the different Blizzard games. And just as it was with Hearthstone, this game is also simple, and simple is something Blizzard does well.

Items in this game are replaced with talents for each hero, which makes it easier for the team to balance things and no need to recall to buy.

The heroes have a HUGE variance and you will find a character you like. You can play as Murky with a 3 second respawn or The Lost Vikings where you control 3 characters etc

I didnt play in Lol, so particulary i will compare Hots with Dota 2.
When i first saw its graphics, i was surprised it looked very cool and for me, the graphics still better than graphics in dota/lol.

I read many old negative reviews and people say that you need to donate if you want to play ranked or buy new heroes. Its a lie, i could play ranked in a month and have never donated till now, i can play many heroes because i have bought more than half of them, plus you can play some heroes every week without paying for that.Ofc you can donate and unlock ranked in a week, but what do you want?Get lower rank because you played not so much and you are bad player?

What about heroes? In my opinion, we have only 4-5 op heroes, oh you think someone can take them?Every team has 2 ban at the beginning and 1 ban for each team in the middle of preparation. So you can ban op heroes and also some heroes that can beat your pick.If you want to win, make a good pick, i dont see disbalance here.In that case, its similar with Dota.
Every hero has his abilities and talents.Someone said that abilities are similar, i remember only 5 abilities which are similar by its effect (not by animation of cource) or that people want to say that abilities have similar damage or heal?I hope they are not so stupid. In Dota 2 every hero has 4 abilities (i dont remember about passive ability) and you need to make simple upgrades which upgrade damage/heal.Also there are special talents on 10, 15, 20, 25 lvl which can improve your hero stats/give more ability duration/less cooldown/more dmg for ability.
Hots heroes have 5 abilities (5th can be passive or active) , every hero can choose 1 talent of 3-4 (and two to choose for ult), talent up at level 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 20.Some of them have special task to complete and get bonus and there are some which give you new abilities (not so strong, compare with basic). Its clear, that talent system is better in Hots then in Dota. And that was without including Dota items, so lets talk about them.

Items in Dota make a major influence in fight, i find feeding for items is boring, and that is another problem that people say, they say that Hots is boring, too fast and i found guy who said its not funny.
Every game in Dota lasts about 40 mins an average, all the game you are trying to earn money, buy better items and just kill your opponent because you have better items.
Hots is fast, has many maps, the complete opposite of Dota, that how it was made. You think Hots boring because its fast?Because i dont see where it can be boring, if it has 15 different maps and dynamic gameplay.About fun, you want some clowns on the map, who will amuse you or what? For example, find funny playing Cho`Gall with my friend.

Hots has shared level, because of that, there is no guy who will dominate all the opposite team because he got bigger lvl. Team gets exp for killing creeps, taking camps and killing enemy. There is no "Kills mean nothing" or "Its impossible to comeback", Kills give you important exp in the beginning and might give you victory after 20 lvl, because hero respawn is very long at that time of the game.2/5 or 3/5 of the game you need to stay as team (not all the time, how said sever "pro gamers" in these reviews) , the other half heroes must be splited up on all 3-2 lines.
Disconnect problem is not so big, i may have disconnect 1/15 games, but its less than 30 sec.
Now we came to the main problem, the problem of people's behavior. You have a small chance to get a team, where everyone will try to win and wont cry, doing bad for all team. Many people hate Hots for toxic people, but isnt it absolutely all games have such a problem? You can get lower rank because of them, so got I. I got 5 gold after calibration, after several games fall to silver 2 for a long time.It was hard to win every game but then i dealed with that, picking my best heroes.Currently im platinum 3-4.

Hots is an interesting moba game which was made different from other moba games. Its seems easy, but that is the point. You can play other moba, if you dont like its gameplay. Hots was made that way.
That how critics say (and its also a cause because there are no negative critics).

This game deserves at least 1 more point to user score.
    By the way Dota
and Lol have low rating too, everyone just argue with each other. There are people who played Hots and got mad because of "main problem" (and then rated it as 0-4 (who can even rate as 0? 0 score-0 brain)), i think people should left their little whims somewhere else. Still, i wont put bad rating for Dota or Lol because "I played only Dota and then that "Hots" appeared, i wont play it, Dota forever, Hots is trash", its very stupid and looks like child's deed.

This definitely was the best MOBA. But sadly they canceled the game. My biggest hope in gaming would be that Blizzard is focusing on this game again, and maybe even a console version.

But rating the game, how it was back in 2015-2016. Then it was Legend and a clear 10/10. I love that the game is focusing on Team play, so all the team members have shared XP pools.

I am in love with this game. Thank you so much, Blizzard, for this game ! I have been playing this game for 6 years. This game has what I've always missed in Dota 2, for example. It's just a great game. I used to play Dota 2, but since 2015 I have stopped being a fan of Dota. I love the world of warcraft and I only play as heroes from WOW. Once I had a platinum rating.

If you're looking for a gritty, heavily-optimized, highly twitchy experience that rewards perfect execution, this isn't a game for you. If you want a game that rewards broad strokes game knowledge over pinpoint accuracy, welcome aboard!

PLUSES: Games are shorter, typically 20-30 minutes. All basic abilities are unlocked at level 1, with Ults (a choice of 2 for all but 2 heroes as of March 2018) at level 10 and powerful "Storm" Talents on 20. Heroes fit broadly into roles and sub-classes, and drafts are very rewarding since they're full of counterplay. The lack of an item shop keeps gameplay going smoothly, sometimes evolving in the middle of a big fight. There are no passive bonuses earned outside of each map, so no grinding for rune pages or spells.

MINUSES: Quickmatch lacks a draft, meaning a lot of counterplay gets lost; sometimes you wind up with an unwinnable match. Many of the truly innovative heroes like Medivh, Cho'Gall, and Abathur wind up a liability if someone on your team doesn't know how to play with them. Hero pricing has gone down since the 2.0 update in early 2017, but is still a bit high (though you won't have much trouble picking up a hero a week on dailies alone). And lastly, this game *does* have loot boxes; they're mostly cosmetic (occasionally permanently unlocking a Hero for free), but if you're someone whose brain chemistry makes them bothersome, be aware that they're there. I can't give a game with loot boxes a 10/10 in good conscience.

There's also been some complaints about matchmaking, but in my experience that seems to be confined to people with either very high or very low MMR. High end people are rare and difficult to pair effectively, while very bad people typically overestimate their own skill or grief to the point that the game thinks they're worse off than they are.

I've been playing this game on a more-or-less daily for more than two years, so yeah, I'm a fan.

Naturally if you are looking for a very difficult experience where eventually you'll be able to just make a new account and rofl stomp noobs all day then Dota is for you, HOTS is simple enough where even a brand new player can pose a threat and doesn't have to worry about cookie cutter or counter builds nearly as much as other games.

People are very often complaining about the 'pay to play' model in HOTS which is quite frankly stupid, they give you new free characters to play with and try out every week, the gold from games may not be as plentiful as other games (slightly slower to grind gold from wins in HOTS than LoL) but the dailies are very rewarding and of course as you level up you will gain a lot of gold as well, it does NOT take 6 months to get the heroes if you do it right and all you care about is hero league.

They did it on purpose where it would take a while to get into hero league but it does not in any shape form or fashion take 6 months to get into it unless you are purchasing only high priced heroes. Assuming you aren't the type of person that sits and plays 10-20 games a day you will most likely easily have the gold from doing your dailies to get into hero league by the time you reach 35ish. Of course this game isn't aimed at people who sit and play 8-10 hours a day it is SUPPOSED to be a more casual experience but has the option for a higher competitive play as well.

As far as how is the game feel compared to LoL and Dota? In my opinion it is an insane improvement the only problem being how much snowball there is. Instead of sitting there pelting minions and fleeing in terror if something so much as sneezes in the early game you will find yourself face deep in the action at almost all times, the maps are small enough to make almost every encounter a large team fight and people will go hard. If you play LoL for its slow pace because you aren't a fan of **** hitting the fan fast and hard then this is NOT the game for you, you will NOT be laning for 20 minutes before contemplating pushing forward you WILL have to push the towers within the first 5 minutes of the game and in some cases the keeps if you really wreck the other team. So if you like the laid back ignoring toxic team chat from LoL or using strategic clicking for an hour in Dota you might wanna stay there cause HOTS compared to those two is like comparing Diablo (LoL and Dota) to Halo 3 (HOTS).

Be prepared to be frustrated LoL players, the games are actually balanced and you will find yourself ostracized if you use toxicity, you also can't reset or tank your MMR to pick on new players since the more games you play the less your MMR is affected, and even if you do you won't be wiping the floor with anyone since you can't selfishly ignore the team, the team is everything in HOTS.

9/10 definitely a good MOBA for people who like playing MOBAs in the late game and don't only care about trying to pick on new players and selecting OP characters.

Heroes of the Storm grew on me. I'm glad it did and I'm glad I stuck with this game. I do not see myself going into any other MOBA any time soon. Partly because I no longer have time for 45 mins+ games, Partly because I simply grew to love HotS.

Coming from Dota 2, I had to overcome the initial "this is dumbed down" feeling, HotS is quite radical in what it stripped from the usual MOBA mechanics. But the result is a lot of fun without unnecessary clutter of last hitting, denying and juggling with backpack items. To realize that I don't need all this "arcane" knowledge I needed some time. This is a true "hero brawler" - a game of intense teamfights from the start where your ability matters the most.

I also had to accept the fact that HotS business model is different. I paid some money for a bundle and played some promo matches against AI to get a decent base of heroes and a stimpack (experience aka in-game gold earning rate boost). I needed to put up with some painful grind and I'm not a fan of locking heroes behind the paywall.

The major area where HotS lacks in my opinion is the e-sports appeal. It is way more entertaining to play HotS than to watch HotS. Lack of proper spectator mode doesn't help.

It doesn't matter that much, It's nice to have a quality game where your favorite characters from all your favorite games battle each other.

As a MOBA veteran (I played the original DotA Allstars many years ago religiously) I've played nearly every MOBA under the sun up until about 3 years ago. I had to quit playing because a new addition to the family was and is taking up a-lot of my spare time so I could only play a game here and there.

The problem with that is in DotA 2 and LoL the games are long and very skill intensive.

I had to quit playing because a new addition to the family was and is taking up a-lot of my spare time so I could only play a game here and there.

The problem with that is in DotA 2 and LoL the games are long and very skill intensive. If you want to play seriously at all you need to keep up with the incredibly un-fun last hitting and denying. So I just stopped knowing that I would always be out of practice and I would also be constantly bashed by the trash communities in both games.

Fast forward to about 5 months ago, I discovered Heroes of the Storm was ready to play in my Bnet client. I wasn't excited or anything because I already knew I didn't have much time to game but my curiosity got the best of me and I checked it out. I am REALLY glad I did.

First off, this is definitely a more casual game. Games are much shorter and the gameplay is all about team fights, jungle baddies and objectives. Instead of the painfully boring slow starts consisting of denying and last hitting present in other MOBA'S, you jump right in to the action and HotS does MOBA action better than all the rest.

This is where skill comes in. Team fights and objectives present great targets for strategy and skill. A team working together will always beat a team that does not and Blizzard made working together SO very easy with it's auto-ping system. You don't need to chat, just ping something on the map and your team knows what you mean and what to do. It's genius! I found myself immediately having a blast the very first game I played. No-one bashed me for being new and 2 of my teamates even helped me out with advice in-game. Your team shares XP so everything you kill, every objective you complete contributes to your teams overall level. As you level, you unlock talents. Talents present the diversity in builds in HotS instead of items. This is also a great change that removes a-lot of the busywork present in other MOBA's. I quickly made 3 builds for Sonya, one focused on siege damage and laning, one on killing enemy heroes and one on tanking, all 3 worked great and played very differently! I didn't have to look up item builds, or farm for gold to get it done.. I just had to fight and do objectives and help my team!

I've finally found a MOBA I can play with my time constraints. And it happens to be the very best one I have ever played. Blizzard has surprised and delighted me with this game. Totally worth playing!

    - best action packed gameplay of any MOBA
    - focuses on fun and teamwork over last hitting and denying
    - Objectives are unique and effective for each of the 8 maps
    - Quick games!
    - did I say it's fun yet? cuz it really is.
    - Talents allow very versatile Hero builds.
    - In-game gold earning is pretty quick
    - Community is actually not full of a$$holes!

It's fun, but the amount of grinding needed to get a character is ridiculous. On top of that, the pricing for real purchases is way too high. I like LoL because of it's diversity from the get go. You can't really have diversity if everyone plays the same 6-free characters.

Best aspects of the MOBA genre combined into a single game, very accessible to beginners, but has plenty of "meat on the bones" if you're a more dedicated player.

Heroes is fast paced and action oriented, but the more you learn about the game, the more ways you discover of outplaying your oponent not only in teamfights, but by the right positioning and timing around map objectives.

I've been playing heroes since the alpha, first just as a "try" but now I've got hundreds of games under my belt, and it's been awesome so far.

These things did it for me:
    - Average game lenght of ~20 minutes

    - Shared XP amongst the team, no need to worry about it as a support
    - Strategic choices of positioning and frequent action around objectives
    - Cool hero design

I started playing the Moba genre since it was a mod of Warcraft 3. I never found any other game in the genre quite as enjoying as the mods of WC3. Dota en LoL were not my kind of games, these games have a too steep learning curve and an unkind community. Heroes of the Storm is the reason I tried the genre again, and it succeeded to keep me interested enough. Yes, there are also flamers, kiddies and plain stupid players present. But those kind of players are in every game. You can easily find new friends ( you get bonus xp and gold if u team up with a friend), and just keep playing with the ones you like.

Heroes of the Storm is my main game since January and I estimate that it stays that way for the next half year.

In Heroes of the Storm you play as one of Blizzard's iconic characters from Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo. At first glance the game looks like a typical 5 vs 5 MOBA, but there are changes that differentiate it from its competitors. The matches are shorter, items have been replaced with talents and all maps have different side objectives. Overall, the changes have made the game more intense and varied. The main thing that I have issues with is the payment model. At first it seems fair and reasonable, but after a while you realize that you have to spend tons of money if you want to unlock all the characters or play the game for a long time. [Sept 2015]
