    The game was worth waiting for.Awsome graphics and story line is never broken.Where one ends another picks up at that moment.I just hope valve is working on episode 3 now. Can't wait. Awsome job guys.

    The game is perfect. Everything is very well connect and, though I agree Alyx is almost a super woman (if I took half the shots she take I'd be long dead, even with 100 health and 100 suit!!!), the storyline is really wonderful. And, the challenge is pretty good, and not frustrating. The two final chapter are almost worthy all the game: kill lots of big robots, in a riot sometimes The game is perfect. I'm really not a big fan of HL, though I consider it very good and entertaining, but, Episode 2 really made me write this review: it's simply perfect. It moves not only with your accuracy as a shooter, but you may even develop(finally!!!) some real bonds with the other characters.     The story line of episode II is definitely more developed than episode I. The game play has improved significantly, and the new means of transportation, a rusty muscle car, is very thrilling. Overall the game is a must for half life fans... the only drawlback is the short gameplay.

    Let me start by saying EPISODE 2 is far, far more pleasing to play than vanilla HL2. Not that HL2 wasn't a good game but it wasn't as amazing as most people made out, still very good though. Now EP2 has distilled all the great parts of HL2 and layered on some astounding cinematics and atmosphere. The graphics look better and the lighting in places is 'almost real' Let me start by saying EPISODE 2 is far, far more pleasing to play than vanilla HL2. Not that HL2 wasn't a good game but it wasn't as amazing as most people made out, still very good though. Now EP2 has distilled all the great parts of HL2 and layered on some astounding cinematics and atmosphere. The graphics look better and the lighting in places is 'almost real' really hightens the sense of immersion. Up until I played crysis I believed this was about as good as we got with modern FPS games, but it doesn't quite match up to the brilliance in Crysis, except in the plot/story in which it probably surpasses crysis. When it comes to gameplay it's solid and you play through with little thought or worry and just enjoy it for what it is. (Crysis is a different beast where YOU provide the cinematics through your own actions which is on another level of brilliance found in no other shooter). So aside from it's more static, less dynamic nature (compared to Crysis) it's easily as good or better than any of the other top rated FPS games from the last 5 years. Would still like to see more DeusEx style gameplay in a brilliant setting like HL2 but as it is, even in it's somewhat 'short' episode 2 HL2 is still a shining beacon of PC gaming (and now 360 too) and has tonnes of polish and gameplay.… Expand

    I believe this game and its predecessor's were truly magnificently done. I'm not a huge gamer or very serious one but I was interested in the story line of the game. After playing all three Half-Lifes' i think in my own opinion Episode 2 was the best because it left the story a great setup for the third and perhaps final episode. Good job Valve.

I question those who saw no improvement in graphics or story line. Were they playing at full capacity? Have they played the originals and seen the improvements? Have they even enjoyed the storyline? While simple in plot, it's still very interesting to me to see how the saga progresses. This game is definately worth playing.… Expand

    its a good game, could be longer, or they could put all 3 episodes into 1 giant game. take up a helluva lotta space on my tech deck sized drive though, and i have no space as it is. so if im gettin episode 3, and i KNOW i am(im buying it with my best buy gift card) ill have to get rid of gmod or sims 2. the part i liked best though would be killin off the huge ass load of striders near the end

    I was blown away by how awesome this game was. I had only played Episode 1, but this overtook my wildest expectations. It had everything; graphics, gameplay and story. Sometimes the game got hard, but other than that, great game.

My reviews are usually pretty long but I'm going to try to keep this one short. The level design, as with Half-Life 2 and Episode 1 is once again top notch. But for me this time it was actually surpassed by the story. Though I've always thought Half-Life's story was excellent, this game surpassed previous titles with 2 gut-wrenching scenes where I literally just paused the game, set my headphones down, stared at the computer screen in shock and shed a couple tears. The emotions in this game are so intense after spending so much time with these characters in the past 2 titles... I just... I just... gah. I really hope Half-Life 3 comes soon.… Expand

The death of Eli Vance really surprised me the first time I finished it : you just fight off many waves of striders, and before you can even catch your breath, a dramatic cut-scene occurs. Besides, the game as good as the other prequels. I don't even know what would be PC gaming without the Half Life series... I'm looking forward to the third episode.… Expand

    Half Life 2: Episode Two has the best gameplay in any Half Life Game by far. And there have been some pretty decent games in the series. The cliffhanger ending was amazing. The action was mostly enjoyable. The puzzles were as good as ever. There's just one thing stopping me from giving it a 10, and that's the length of the game. The game could've easily gone on for another few hours

    Episode Two took all of Episode One's flaws into account and returned to the level of the original game. Instead of the cramped Citadel, the setting is placed among wide open forests and eerie caves. The Hunters are some of the toughest enemies you will ever face (with a surprising weak spot). And the final battle is one of the most challenging and (when completed) satisfying of the series.

It starts off a bit rocky bit quickly evolves into another Valve masterpiece which improves on episode one.     If you are a fan of shooting and not-too-hard physics puzzles with tons of variety and a great and compelling story, look no further as EP2 really delivers on its promise to provide a much longer play length than the terribly short EP1 and a welcome change in environment and feel from the urban areas of HL2 and EP1.     Great game that stays more true to HL2 than episode one. The length is not too bad either. It would have been cool if they had added in another gun or something but it's still enjoyable and you can pick it up practically for free on Steam in sales. In fact I did get a free copy from Steam.

    Better than episode 1 and also slightly longer. When combined with the orange box package this is definietly a must have, as is the whole half life series (HL1 Expansions excluded, maybe).

Loses 1 point for play value as there's little reason to play more than the time to beat it and one point for my problem with the entire HL series: the game is VERY linear you follow ONE specific path throughout the game -- there is little exploration and no two ways of doing things.     Fantastic addition to the series and really cannot wait for the next instalment. The time spent in the Half-Life 2 series has been the most fun I have ever had in a game and I continue to replay from time to time reliving the great moments that make the Half-Life story what it is.

    Half-Life 2 is a great FPS game and liking the game I decided to play the episodes one and two. Episode 1 was good but really short and a bit boring, but this episode was interesting and fun. A ending surprising me and I like that. It also can be a bit a chalenge at times so if you like a easy time play on easy difficulty. A 6-8 hour campaign making it a decent length long. Overall veryHalf-Life 2 is a great FPS game and liking the game I decided to play the episodes one and two.     This is the "Empire Strikes Back" of the Half-Life 2 saga. New enemies, a gripping storyline, creative level design, and fantastic new music and sfx all come together to wrap up the events of the Citadel. It's a shame that they have seemed to drop the ball on episode 3 because it ends on a bit of a "to be continued..." cliffhanger and would be a great segway into HL3. I can't find a single thing wrong with this game, squad AI is dramatically improved from the original Half Life 2, it has more story, and I didn't even think that was possible. More characters, great voice acting, amazing emotions towards the characters, hell, I even cried a little at the end. Great weapons, graphics sounds, the list goes on. This game deserves nothing less than a 9. So go out and buy the series on Steam and enjoy your life. All I have to is... I WANT HALF LIFE 3!!!… Expand

    When I thought Episode 1 was okay with only memorable gameplay mechanics, Episode 2 sets the series on the track again with a highly engaging story, new environments and the most fun/difficult boss fights of the series that forces the players to come up with a strategy.

    Unlike Episode 1, the story progression is extremely rich. There are moments which you totally don't see coming. It put me in great emotional stress in the first quarter of the game. The tension was so thick, I was sick worried!

    The thing that I missed the most in Half Life 2 is covered by the episodes: teaming up with Alyx. Alyx is with us only for a brief time in HL2. Episode 1's lack of story is up for by this element. But now, not only is Alyx with us the entire time, but we experience a series of great plot twists and amazing story development with her. Seeing her reactions, her pain, her suffering almost becomes our own!

    It seems as if Valve is learning! The boss fights are extremely smart and engaging. One of Half Life's (the whole series') strength's is that it does tell the player through exposition what he/she has to do in a certain situation or in a boss fight. The player has to learn this just by observing the environment like the architecture, the position of barrels, etc. Episode 2 makes the most brilliant use of this, even better than Half Life 2.

    This is most definitely my favorite game of all time to date. Please Valve, give us the next part. The cliffhanger's really killing me.    … Expand

    I think the first two chapters are a little bit worse than the rest, because it has little variety in environment and enemies. I also thought that the last big combine attack would be more spectacular. Everything else is excellent (story, characters, enemies, weapons, ...)!

    Does a great job of improving over the already genius Half-Life 2 formula. New weapons, new puzzles, new game mechanics (the use of your flashlight), new cool enemies, a great story and absolutely magnificent locations and events (cf. the hunter-trap in the shed). Way better than Episode One.

It sadly ended on a cliffhanger that never may be resolved but at could have been worse as at least it left us wanting more as opposed to wishing for it to end. There isn’t much to speak of in the innovation department as it only introduced one new game play mechanic which was the sticky bombs for the final mission and a new enemy in the hunters. The graphics, voice acting and physics were all as good as before. The driving segments are back and brought back some variation. If I could make one complaint it would be that I felt the final mission lacked enough rockets. There were only maybe a half dozen I found in it’s duration so to deal with the hunters I resulted to running them with the car or throwing tree trunks at them. I would also say that having to keep an eye on Alyx more than previous games once again exposed some poor AI. It would have been nice if she sought cover more often.

    I played Episode Two on Linux. It never crashed on me. There were 4 AA settings; 6 AF settings; a V-Sync toggle; 9 other graphics options and an FOV slider that went from 75-90. You could change the difficulty level at any time as well as manually save at any time. Performance was fantastic which wasn’t surprising given the game’s age.

It’s current price of $8.99 CAD is a steal.

    A great expansion to half life 2. The story in this one is great and is better than episode 1's, combat is pretty much the same but thats good. I recommend getting this if you liked Half life 2.

    It was near hitting a 9/10 but the pain in the ass final boss, ITS ANNOYING AS **** It still has good acting, good writing, good story, and great gameplay to have fun with. Just buy this game when it was a low price.

    Valve once again knocks it out of the park with this game. It's just as good as the other half lifes, and offers the same superb storytelling and action that was in the previous 2. It also picks up nicely from HL2e1, and continues the story very well.

They both had some good aspects, but they both had a lot of frustrating and/or difficult sections that occurred enough to distort my experience. However, Half Life 2: Episode 2 is a great game. I enjoyed this experience as much as I did Portal 2. It was that great. The beginning is more quiet and focuses on the story, but most of the Episode is just pure action, throwing new enemies into this universe, and providing wide open and bright environments to battle enemies in. The graphics have been updated too, which helps this feel like a new game, which it technically is. The new villains, the Combine Advisors, that take command of the Combine more explicitly in this game, are awesome villains, and much better than Breen in Half Life 2. I always found him to be a bit boring and not that intimidating or clever, and he doesn't say any profound statements like other villains have. But the Advisors are awesome. When you meet your first one, it shows its extremely powerful telekinesis, creating a tornado of wood splinters in the air before booking it. Quite an impressive technical sequence by Valve, I'll add. From then on, it, and its friends are watching you and constantly leading the Combine forces against you. Great villains. Moving on. Kelly Bailey's soundtrack is awesome, Magnusson is a great newish character, and the voice acting from every character is very good. The only sections I disliked were the ending section where you kill heaps of Striders, which is way too hard and annoying. And the part where you kill two Antlion Guards, which is bad for the same reasons. Overall, Half Life 2: Episode 2 is a great game not to be missed. And it makes me want a Half Life 3.… Expand

Every minute building on the amazing story that ended in the first episode. Through out ep2 there were more intense moments like the elevator event in ep1. Now I join the long list of people who really love Half-Life and are waiting for Episode 3 or Half-Life 3. Maybe some day soon we can get to the end of the story with the trusty crowbar. I did run into a few sound problems of mostly sounds playing in a loop when they shoulden't. When in a vehicle and have half in water, it makes a constant splash sound as it makes entering in water for the first time.… Expand

    Valve outdid their HL2 work with these episodes. The gameplay is as fun as it was, and the new mechanics just make the game better. It's a shame we still have to wait for the conclusion of Gordon's story.

    Game based on checked before ideas and mechanisms. Missions are still diversed and exciting, puzzles and quests are varied in a good way. The storyline seems to be more interesting. Textures looks noticeable better than in HL 2 and Episode One. Sound keeps the same, nice level. Succeed continuation offering a little bit more fun than Episode One.

This one is a lot more focused on the story, that has evolved in an interesting way. The G-Man scene alone in this one is one of the best things I have ever seen in any game ever. The way he talks to Alyx is creepy, yet interesting and mysterious, and the soundtrack "Inhuman Frequency" that plays in the background gives me goosebumps each time I hear it. The end boss can get quite frustrating if you play on Hard Mode, however I feel like that is for the better, as it makes the end fight much more memorable. The ending, though, is one of the most famous cliffhangers in the history of video games. Unfortunately, after all this time, we still have no Half Life game from Valve that continues the story from Episode 2 (HL Alyx is a prequel).… Expand

Half-Life 2: Episode Two весьма увлекателен, но обеими руками держаться за пословицу «старый друг лучше новых двух» в данной ситуации как-то глупо. Перед нами ведь не абы что, а продолжение культовой игры, в которой штампов и самокопирования быть не должно.
    Графика заметно похорошела, а особенно мне понравились виды на природе: ёлочки, небо, город где-то далеко-далеко внизу. Что уж говорить об анимации персонажей - движок Source работает на полную катушку, отображая на их лицах каждую морщинку. А как красиво блестят глаза главных героев... эх, красота!
    Не отстает и звук - в этот раз очень порадовала музыка. Она стала более агрессивной и запоминающейся - скорее всего, благодаря электрогитаре.
    Фанаты ликуют, критики довольны, и я спешу их поддержать. Проект очень и очень динамичен (особенно последние несколько часов игры, когда от вражин нет перебоя), и всё скомпоновано четко, грамотно и гармонично.    … Expand

    Per usual, the graphics for a Half Life game are ahead of it's time. The setting is a total change of pace from the previous two titles, and it works perfectly. There are some exceptionally great visuals throughout the story and the final mission provides some of the coolest effects you have seen in a while. I'm writing this review in 2020, having just played the game for the 3rd time ever, and I can honestly say that these graphics hold up for a game that is 10+ years old.

    Narrative: 9/10
    HL2E2 tells a touching story with some of our most beloved HL2 characters, along with a new addition that meshes well into the dynamic. There are some warm moments sprinkled throughout, and a few heart-wrenching scenes that will surely weigh down your chest.

    Protagonist: 9/10
    Who doesn't love Gordon Freeman? Still would love to hear him speak, though!

    Characters/Interactions: 10/10
    The supporting characters are phenomenal in this game, and I love how a lot of them tie into previous HL titles. Alyx, Eli, Dog, Kleiner, Lamar, and even Magnusson are all given an opportunity to be fleshed out properly, and by the end we have a sense of direction to where the story is headed (still waiting, Valve).

    Gameplay: 10/10
    This game is just so fun. I always think back to the original Half Life (PS2) game case, and how on the back it says "RUN, SHOOT, THINK, LIVE", and how it's such a simple idea. But somehow, Valve turns this style into some of the most intriguing gameplay I've ever seen. The final mission stands out the most for sure. It's a challenge, but it's such a blast that you will be wishing for more. The ending will forever give me goosebumps, and I just hope that someday we will get to see what's next for our beloved Gordon Freeman.

    The best HL chapter I've ever played! The nature presenting in that game creates a unique ambient which makes Episode Two somewhat different from other parts of the series. I played in that game many times and it still don't boring me. A piece of art. Without a doubt.

A continuation of the excellent Half-Life 2 story with a few new levels. This episode is simply better than the first episode, and the levels feel fresh with new environments including caves, an alien insect hive, and a pine forest.     This game is pretty much Half life 2 in a countryside setting, it works really well. Seriously though the ending was the downfall of valve and it still pisses me off to this day. We'll never get part 3.

    De forma muy sombría y bien ambientada nos presentan a los "Hunters" en todo su esplendor, de ahí sucede "algo" que nos obliga a avanzar con otro personaje (continuando con la cooperación como en la anterior entrega), entramos a una mina que precederá de un conjunto de escenarios enfocados al terror por su nuevamente increíble ambientación donde Half Life logra que aquellos enemigos que matábamos con "facilidad" en las anteriores entregas se vuelvan mucho mas formidables debido a los escenarios y falta de armamento (como paso con el Stryder del final del Episodio 1) para mas tarde enfrentarnos al verdadero reto, un ejercito de Stryder, el cual debemos de evitar a toda costa que lleguen al Cohete de Magnuson (personaje nuevo sacado de la nada).

    No es un 10 mas que nada por el tema de las pantallas de carga que son molestas a mas no poder y se aprecia que estén en los lugares donde menos molesten.    … Expand

    All I can say after finishing this game is.... WOW!!! Every single thing about it left my jaw hung open! Valve has impressed me yet again with their awesome ability to make such a great storyline, and with their limitless source engine. The ONLY problem i have with this game is that it is a little bit too short. Still, 10/10. I just wish that my jaw could have hung open just a little bit longer.

    Any way you look at it, Episode Two stands out, even among the Half-Life series, as something special. It may be shorter than the original, but it's a burly experience packed into roughly six hours or so that offers up all the diversity, level design, and thoughtful gameplay we've known while making sure to propel the story forward and leave us wanting more.

    Episode Two is the most sumptuous chapter of the Half-Life saga, and by a country mile. It's as if Valve's tech and art teams are trying to outdo each other: the Source engine has had a striking technical overhaul that renders textures, materials and curves uncannily well, and the artists clearly relish having a fresh palette to work with.
