I don't know, how Episode Three will look like, but I do know, that Half-Life 2: Ep 2 is showing the best gameplay in all of FPS (Not counting HL2 & Ep 1, because evolution of the series started with superior game).

I hope nobody continued reading his review after that unless they were trying to get a laugh out of it. The second I would like to note is Philip B. He rated the game a zero because operating system didn't grant him the permission to run executable. Please don't abuse the game rating system because you can't play it. Personally I gave the game a 9. It had everything I could want in good FPS. The story line was amazing and continued an arc that seems to keep the mystery of what is going on alive, well progressing itself in an interesting manner. The graphics continue to amaze and delight me and the physics compliment it nicely. The only two things I have against this game is difficulty and length of play. Since everyone already knows that these are episodes and are going to be short I don't have to explain my lust for more when I get done with an episode. However my problem with the fact that the game isn't very hard even on the hardest of settings still bugs the shit out of me. Please valve make another setting for die hard gamers to give us the challenge we need. Expand

I liked the extension of the storyline done here, but as usual the episodic content for HL2 once again rides far too short for the amount of development time that does into it. In general while the expansion is good, theres not alot of majorly new concepts in pay here and while the levels are good the lack much in the area of new content and resources to justify the amount of time its taken to develop it all. Overall I have no complaints about Episode 2, but to get above an 8 rating from me Valve is going to have to either increase the amount of game play content per Episode to at least 12 hours, or start releasing these 6 hour episodics at least once every 6 months. Truly a masterpiece of gaming.

The story is great and gameplay is way more fun, than it was in original HL2 or in Episode one.

It's way too short, but you can't get everything.

For $20 you can get two, freshly released games, a brand new episode for Half-Life 2, and because it wouldn't make any sense at all to give you a new episode standalone, the other two chapters of the Half-Life 2 experience. Since three of the five titles then were brand new in the Orange Box, and the other two titles were basically a free gift, I hardly think there is anything to complain about unless you were at the frightening level of idiocy that would have compelled you to buy all these games separately. Your opinion of Episode 2 is your own business, but dropping the rating because of the packaging deal is just asinine. What's more, I am inclined to disagree anyway with your review, whose grammar gave me throbbing pains in my frontal lobes, by stating that with each of the Episodic releases Valve is not only adding more to the rich storyline of Half-Life 2 (which probably doesn't matter to the kind of gamer you group yourself under), and not only enriching the gameplay with new stirring sequences whose difficulty is amped up much further than the previous two installments and innovative additions to the Source Engine and interaction with the environment, but is also constantly adding to the game's original code to make it more visually stunning (the addition of full bloom and environmental lighting is felt most in episode 2, and beautifully) and user-friendly without the sacrifice of challenge. It is a wonderful game, and even if you can't see that, I encourage you to actually try using your mind before suddenly running your mouth and dropping the game with an insincerely low rating. I mean a two?! I reserve those for the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog games! Show some decency! Expand

I loved almost every thing about this game, but a few parts were a bit annoying. Driving was a bit hard and trying to take down the striders at the end was almost impossible. It wasn't great, but better then a lot of games out there today.

Much better than Episode 1, but still not up to the standards set by HL2-TOG. Controlling the car is also something that needs to be overhauled, as driving it is nearly impossible.

The 6 hours in this game really propels the story forward and is filled with numerous action packed segments, espcially at the end in a large expansive area and multiple striders. The end of this chapter is comparable to what Empire Strikes Back was like for Star Wars.

I love this game. I really want to give this game a 10. While I was playing it I fully enjoyed the puzzles and the computer voice that was my constant "companion". There were multiple times that I actually laughed out loud. Also, the end credits where the best I've ever seen. I have talked about the game to many people, and I actually recommend it, with the caveat that perhapsI love this game. I really want to give this game a 10. Also, the end credits where the best I've ever seen. I have talked about the game to many people, and I actually recommend it, with the caveat that perhaps they shouldn't buy the Orange Box JUST for portal alone.

Like I said, I REALLY want to give this game a 10, but when I thought about it, I found there were a couple issues.
The first is similar to what you would hear other people say. It really is too short. This shortness makes you realize how much COULD have been done, but wasn't. It's almost as if the game were written by seinfeld, making his exit at the height of popularity. This does nothing but make you want for more leaving you feeling empty and hungry for more (cake!).

The second thing I was surprised at was that the game actually has a Boss. I found this to be a little bit of a letdown. Throughout the game you are pitted against puzzles, only to end the game with a fight. This reminds me of how the Stephen King book IT was ended. (A FREAKIN' SPIDER!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!). I expected more. Although I liked the module's personalities. Although the humor at the end was exceptional (as I laugh to myself as I write this), I found myself wishing that the final exit was based more on logic and cunning then the final fight that was presented. Really, I felt that GlaDOS deserves better than that.

I end up thinking of this game as an excellent prototype for future games. For that, they get a strong 10. If I hadn't bought the game with the Orange Box, I think I would have felt disappointed due to it's short length. Therefore the game gets an 8 as a standalone game on it's own merits.

However, I hope that valve will take this game and run with it! There's a lot of potential. And I sincerly hope that GlaDOS will be there as well. Oh, I will also be purchasing a plush Weighted Companion Cube.

At the beginning the atmosphere seems to be a bit rusty and frozen. But after a few minutes I realized that this game is awesome! It was wonderful to explore the new terrains and even as it's not really longer than Episode One it feels like double-length to me. The graphics are nice, so are the maps and new enemies. Any way you look at it, Episode Two stands out, even among the Half-Life series, as something special. It may be shorter than the original, but it's a burly experience packed into roughly six hours or so that offers up all the diversity, level design, and thoughtful gameplay we've known while making sure to propel the story forward and leave us wanting more.
  2. More great story blended with improved AI and better firefights. It's starting to retread old ground though.
  3. Episode Two is the most sumptuous chapter of the Half-Life saga, and by a country mile. It's as if Valve's tech and art teams are trying to outdo each other: the Source engine has had a striking technical overhaul that renders textures, materials and curves uncannily well, and the artists clearly relish having a fresh palette to work with.
